Two fundamental issues that Canadian politicians and media keep hidden from Canadians. First, in the 2025 U.S. Supreme Court decision last year about tariffs, the court outlined that the executive branch can constitutionally ban trade with another country. Second, the U.S. can exit the USMCA with a six-month notification.
There is an awful lot of pretending and gaslighting within this general discussion segment; purposefully advanced to keep the Canadian people in the dark. However, that said, Canada’s chief trade negotiator to the United States, Janice Charette does admit that tariff free access to the U.S market is lost forever.
Janice Charette is participating in a discussion at the Toronto Global Forum, where she is questioned by Brian Tobin, vice chair of the BMO Financial Group about the trade relationship with the United States and the opinion that many Canadian officials have espoused that Canada just needs to outlast President Donald Trump.
Charette informs the audience that regardless of who is the U.S. President, tariffs will likely remain in place permanently because the amount of revenue being generated to the U.S. Treasury is too great for any President or congress to stop. PROMPTED – WATCH:
While almost all of her analysis is flawed, skewed and seriously underestimates the nature of the dynamic that Canada is facing, what Janice Charette outlines about how Donald Trump has shifted the national revenue model using global tariffs to offset national expenditures (her baseline) is accurate.
Beyond her statement it is worth pausing for a moment and using Charette’s frame of reference to reconsider the post WWII European revenue model. It was/is President Trump’s model in reverse.
The Marshal plan, was essentially one-way tariffs on American trade that provided one-way benefits (revenue) that permitted the EU to rebuild after the second world war. To Charlette’s framework, how willing was the EU mindset to change this beneficial economic outcome?
Answer: The EU fought it (and is still fighting it), perceiving the elimination of that benefit as an existential threat to their economic power. The EU became reliant on the Marshal Plan.
In many ways Canada made the same economic mistake.
Canada legislated and built their economy around dependencies they never thought would go away.
They disassembled their dirty “carbon emitting” jobs. They took apart their energy foundation. They deindustrialized in an effort to join/lead the world in their virtue signaling around clean energy. Canada intentionally chose to take a series of steps to make their economy less independent, less strong and much less resilient; while worshipping at the altar of the “climate change” religion.
Tariff free access to the USA market, while combining non-tariff protectionist barriers to USA imports formed the foundation of this progressive system. Without the benefit of tariff-free trade with the USA, Canada could never have deindustrialized and become an economy dependent on: (1) shipping out raw materials for dirty processing in other countries; then (2) reimporting the finished component goods for assembly in Canada.
Finally, a person steps forth to stop this one-way benefit. Along came Donald Trump.
When Canada was told those USA dependencies will no longer be permitted and reciprocity will frame the new trade agreement, suddenly all those decades-long deindustrialized vulnerabilities surfaced. This is their current status.
That’s why former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told President-elect Trump the “reciprocity” demand was no longer feasible; which led to the 51st state response.
The current problem is that ‘elbow’s up’ Canada continues to maintain economic denial about their status.
Canada has raw materials, but Canada no longer has the willingness or capability to turn those raw materials into industrial scale products that later become component manufacturing goods. They are intentionally missing the industrial component because the processing itself emits dirty carbon outputs.
This is why we now see Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney selling off the assets of Canada.
Both Canada and Europe changed their energy systems for exactly the same ‘climate change’ reason, and both Canada and Europe are stuck inside the economic confines of their own creation.
China has done a masterful job exploiting that self-created vulnerability in both Europe and now Canada. What this generation is now discovering is that no amount of assembled soft power will ever be able to compensate for the hard power of industrial capacity.
The United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, Australia and beyond will never be global powers again because they no longer have industrial capacity. They are no longer hard powers. This is the one point that all intellectually honest observers will notice.
The ‘soft powers’ are now in a situation where they are seeking alternative sources for their intentionally lost industrial capacity.
Thankfully, and I mean this in the sincerest way imaginable, the United States elected Donald Trump at just the right moment to remove us from this problem, or we would have been in the exact same position as Europe, Canada and Australia.
Simultaneous to this bullet dodged, it was only Donald Trump who drew significant enough attention to the problem so that other weaker persons in politics could realize the severity of the cliff we almost encountered.
Do not ever underestimate how fortunate we were. Without Donald J Trump the United States would have easily become just another larger version of a dependent soft power.
The term “service driven economy” ringing a bell?
Remember this when Trump, Xi and Putin get together next month.

I need someone to tell me if that is a man in a dress or what?
Whatever it is, it’s butt ugly….
As unpretty as thing is, really hate to imagine how bad an odor likely surrounds It. Gallons of perfume in It’s attempt to mask it would be equally nauseating.
It fell out of the ugly tree and hit every twig, branch and limb on the way down.
It’s…..actually in between….your last three words!
Either need Austin Powers or Mick Dundee to take one for the team.
Yes, that is a man
(British accent) It’s a man, Baby!
It’s concentrating on something…
Your 1st comment is not about how blessed our nation is indeed that Trump is sitting in the White House but rather…and insult to a representative of another nation that is getting screwed by its government?
This is not the type of comment persons who visit this site for important information and hopeful discussion are seeking.
You have added nothing yet distracted away from the purpose of the essay.
You might be paid to influence away?
Disgusting shame.
No.
Bara.whatever
Viceroygrey is correct, and doing what we treepers do all the time.
ie: point out fakeness. pointing out that a canadian person with a fake gender, is putting out fake facts.
You start coming off as a liberal when you lose your humor…..don’t do that!
Uh, I don’t think you answered his question. I’ve heard Kamala and AOC give better answers.
Real name is Pat.
It’s…..an or WHAT!
The body appears to be human.
The gender is truly debatable.
My need to know is non existent!
Empirical evidence of all worldly matters informs us that at some point all things come to an end. Obviously, the Canadians never learned this lesson.
Yes, they don’t seem to have the ability to connect the dots….They are lost in space…Soon they will be doing post graduate work in FAFO.
Yep. We can’t all be plastic surgeons.
Ugh….Once again the journalist is slobbering all over Janice Charette, going soft and gentle….disgusting…then he tops it off with a big kiss at the end (best buddies). Will never forgive this woman who was Trudeau’s right hand person ( his privy counsel during covid tyranny). She continues to lie but now to our faces as opposed to behind Trudeau’s fancy socks! God is good…he made her look porcine for a reason.
US to remove 50% tariffs on some Canadian goods to help Republicans in midterms, WSJ reports
Oct 23 (Reuters) – The United States is expected to remove 50% tariffs on some Canadian agricultural and forestry products in a bid to help Maine Senator Susan Collins and other Republicans from northern US states in the upcoming midterm elections, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people familiar.

WSJ…? …Reuters….?
Would you rather see Collins lose?
Is that Collins ‘the film star’ who down voted President Trump’s policies umpteen times?
From the Wall Street Urinal? Definitely not a lick of truth in that!
Charette is telling the peons that it’s going to be bad for thee, but not for me. The giant sucking sound is here to stay.
They’ll come a time when regular Canadian citizens no longer buy her’s and Carney’s BS and revolt
The truckers tried that, and Canadian government dropped the hammer on them.
Wouldn’t hold your breath! Unless you have already swum under water from Nova Scotia to the UK and back holding your breath!!
“Thankfully, and I mean this in the sincerest way imaginable, the United States elected Donald Trump at just the right moment…”
Yes.
Our Father/Creator has undoubtedly willed through His Grace the timely election of the right man to lead the nation and set an example for the world at this moment in history.
Yes, Trump is establishing the framework the nation needs to recover from the inbound financial crisis….when or how bad is unknown.
Sp thankful to Father God for giving us this measure of grace and mercy.
The interviewer and interviewee are both deluded. Her arrogant, entitled attitude is emblematic of Candian trade posture. Canada is now last on my list of “allies. Canada will need an education in reality which regretably will come with pain for Canadians.
Yea… they’re screwed.
Why are we negotiating with Mutt Lange’s sister?
Albertans decided to stay with the sinking ship.
Hoping to be able to reorganize the chairs! Bye, Bye!
I’m tired of powerful positions being handed out based on looks. Oh wait..
We saw the worlds reaction to being in the USA during the World cup Soccer games…They loved it here.
They did indeed. Youtube has lots of first person reactions about their time here. They discovered what they were told about America was complete nonsense.
God bless our President. When I think of how he literally dodged a bullet, I have to believe that God’s grace has not escaped our nation. I pray for him, for FLOTUS, and those in his administration that are on board with MAGA.
Well then, the fat lazy slug doesn’t have to worry about doing anything and can continue with her government paid free 5 star restaurant meals
It is OK, just hold out for another two and a half years and then everything goes back our original lives. We can get back to importing stuff and on selling to America bypassing any taxes.
FAFO! remember you are just the hat, not the head…
“Canadian planemaker Bombardier is investing $270M in U.S. expansion, after Pres. Trump dropped his previous threats to ban the firm from selling its planes in the country.
Company says it’s hiring for 500 roles, plans to add 300 more as it expands into 4 US states.”
I’ve followed the whole Elbows Up fiasco rather too intensively, on both sides of the issue. A small bright spot is that Canada has some terrific Right of Center bloggers. Follow a few and you will find many more.
It is similar to the US. The left in Canada rely on mainstream (government) media so the lefty bloggers are extreme, uncouth, stupid and obnoxious. The righties have built their businesses under duress, resulting much greater professionalism and much higher production standards.
There is hope for Canada, but Trump will need to make serious claims on Canada to fend off China”s and the European’s actions to plunder its resources. Canada, under current management is a grave national security threat to the US. I would not be surprised to see the rhetoric ratchet up further after elections. If the GOP holds the line, things may get very bad for Canadians.
Canada does have tremendous natural resources (mining, forestry, etc.) exports and a tourism sector. I’m not sure how much employment that will support.
The etc. includes Alberta having the 4th largest proven oil and gas reserves on the planet
Which does create jobs.
But could create a whole lot more if it wasn’t for Carnage’s Great Green Grift.
And the woketards’ need to preserve the elusive Pygmy Sniffling Vole’s habitat at any cost to humanity.
🤪
But, But, can’t use it because it will pollute the atmosphere and bring back the dianoursores
Carney answering question about interfering in US election.
Go to 12:50 –
That is one gruesome dude
Carney has a
Satanic EVIL possessed
spirit from the WEF GLOBALIST CABAL
Wait. Is that Gaffigan in drag?
Without Hard Power there is no Soft Power.
No other countries, especially in the Third World, Middle East and Asia, respects or admires a weakling. Nobody. Weaklings are prey. That’s the law of the jungle.
President Trump is providing the greatest service possible to Canada and the EU. He’s waking them up to that fact. For their sake I hope it isn’t too late.
IS THIS TRUE ❓❓❓
Never underestimate the power delusion wields on the Leftist mindset. It starts with the old aphorism that unlike a conservative, who has to see something to believe it, a liberal will believe in something with all her heart with no evidence whatsoever…as long as it ‘feels’ right!
And it feels right to scream at the top of your lungs that Global warming will destroy civilization and flood our cities…by the end of the century..oops, we meant by 2010…or maybe 2020…
Okay, it didn’t happen yet but it’s gonna happen, and in the meantime let’s call the thing that’s going to destroy civilization climate change instead of global warming…and label whoever disagrees with us, ‘climate deniers!’
Oh, and one more thing, climate change only happens if the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, Australia or the U.S. are the ones burning fossil fuels, but China?
Well, China can burn coal and oil their hearts content and that’s okay!
And THAT, boys and girls, is the argument that became the foundation for decades of insane woke government policy that’s driven all of Western Civilization, (except Trump’s America), into oblivion?
Yep, that’s the one!
Canada is a service economy. And the cost of services has gone through the roof.
She seems dedicated, probably works non-stop. But in her job,
that means sitting all day – very bad for the female body. Nature
is unkind to older women who eat too well and exercise not at all.
Great analysis, Thank you
Couple things here……first off…….Canada might have beat our lunatic base to the Trans Party…….because what I Am looking at is certainly an early example of one of those cases gone bad! And I actually think they are all bad….but hey…..to each their own…….but mental illness IS mental illness.
Secondly…..where the hell does Canada get off thinking they should have endless free trade with us and no tariffs and total access to our great economy, while they lock us out of certain areas of their economy and charge us tariffs?
IT WAS WAY OVERDUE AND IT’S TIME THEY GROW THE HELL UP AND QUIT BEING DEPENDENT ON THEIR GREAT NEIGHBOR TO THEIR SOUTH!
AND THIRDLY……….I KNOW THERE ARE MANY WHO STILL DENY THERE WAS ANY PLAN…….BUT I BELIEVE THERE WAS A PLAN…..AND IT’S PLAYING OUT RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR EYES. DO YOU REALLY THING IT’S JUST A COINCIDENCE THAT DJT CAME ALONG RIGHT WHEN HE DID…..RIGHT WHEN SOMEONE LIKE HIM ABSOLUTELY NEEDED TO COME ON STAGE?
I HAVE NEVER BELIEVED IN COINCIDENCES……EVERY SINGLE THING THAT HAPPENS…..HAS REASONING BEHIND IT. AND DO YOU REALLY THINK DJT…WHO IS NOT A POLITICIAN IS JUST WINGING IT? DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT HIS UNDER WEAR ARE SO CLEAN THAT EVEN WHEN A CORRUPT FBI, DOJ, PRESIDENT AND ENTIRE WEAPONIZED GOVERNMENT APPARATUS TRY TO ATTACH MADE UP CRIMES TO HIM THEY FAIL…THAT THIS WAS A COINCIDENCE? THAT WE….HIM WERE LUCKY?
YE OF LITTLE FAITH!
GOD ALWAYS WINS!
Canada is not a real country. It’s only animating principle is “Not America”
No kidding. We are blessed in many ways regarding Trump and his Cabinet.
