Within 12 hours of the Friday announcement that Canada had walked away from trade discussions with the U.S, we were able to piece together what the four points were. Several people disagreed and claimed something else was involved. Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney affirmed specifically the accuracy of those four points.
While Prime Minister Carney used his verbose gaslighting to describe them, you can listen for yourself. It boiled down to four issues: [1] U.S. streaming services writing code for “search engines” in the French language (cultural issue). [2] The U.S. having a right to reject a trade deal made by Canada with a non-market economy, ie. CHINA. [3] Removal of tariffs on Canadian assembled heavy trucks, semi-trucks and industrial trucks (not in the auto sector). [4] Canada demanding 5% of gross revenues from U.S. tech platforms, with an attitude that U.S. controls North American trade.
You can listen to his own words describing these issues. WATCH:
The United States must, as a matter of U.S. national security and survival, immediately cut all trade ties with Canada completely. I’ll explain why this is so critical and important.
The most appropriate metaphor is the drowning victim (Canada) with an intentionally placed anchor on its foot (China), now becoming a threat to the rescue swimmer (USA). If we don’t cut ties, we risk our own livelihood.
Here’s the four counterpoints:
♦The Stupid French Language thing. The French language stuff was an ancillary aspect where the Canadian Cultural Police were demanding that all U.S. streaming platforms (YouTube, Netflix etc.) must have search engines using the French language so Canadian users can search for stuff to watch using the French language. A ridiculous issue that was not part of the trade discussion, but Mark Carney saw political value in blowing up the issue.
This is really stupid, because when you buy your hardware (TV, Phone, Computer etc.) it asks you what language or country during set up. If you live in France, you put France. The operating system does the rest. We don’t code search engines for French in FRANCE because the OS does it! But Canada was requiring U.S. tech companies (streaming services) to install search features in French [I guess so they can set up the OS in English but get some ancillary feature.] It was a stupid “side paper” in the Intellectual Property sector of the trade discussion.
♦U.S. Right to Limit Canadian Trade Deals. This point is exponentially ridiculous for Canada to be upset about because the current USMCA/CUSMA already has that clause. The U.S (or Mexico) can exit the USMCA if Canada enters into a trade agreement with a “non-market” economy, ie China. [USMCA Sec 32:10]
Canada was already in violation of the USMCA/CUSMA when they entered into a trade agreement with China and agreed to import Chinese EVs. This action triggered the U.S. to become more focused on the stuff Canada was going to import; hence, the renewed emphasis on the clause.
This is critical. It’s not an ancillary issue. The Carney administration had requested “Fortress North America” a synergetic alignment of U.S-Canada trade principles. Canada claimed they wanted a united North American continent against the world on trade. Therefore, this talk of Canada being upset about joint collaboration and agreement on trade agreements with third countries, a point brought up repeatedly by Carney just doesn’t make sense.
If Canada wanted to join a united trade policy for North America, where each nation is anchored to the $31 trillion U.S. market, then each nation in North America must hold the same baseline trade agreement with third parties, other nations. Those were previously agreed principles; until all of a sudden Canada accused the U.S. of dictating terms and violating its sovereignty.
♦U.S. tariffs on Canadian “heavy use trucks”. This is not the “auto sector” despite Canada trying to make heavy duty trucks part of it. These tariffs are on industrial trucks, farm equipment, heavy trucks and semi-trucks. The U.S. said no, these are not autos and auto tariffs do not apply.
The reason is simple. Tractors, heavy industrial trucks, big rigs assembled/built in Canada are compromised when built in Canada. Why? Because they are full of cheap Chinese component goods and parts that wear out quickly. The U.S. wants two things on this issue. Either: (1) Make heavy industrial trucks in the USA, or (2) stop using cheap Chinese component parts. Failing to do so retains tariffs.
The parts that Canada are using are not even available in the USA because we tariff and reject them, so why should we accept them when Canada installs them? Either quit using Chinese parts (hence, the trade alignment against Chinese imports) or accept a tariff equal to the rate we would apply if the product was coming directly from China. This is the USA approach to that specific sector of heavy trucks.
SUMMARY: Yes, the United States dictates the terms for North American trade, because the United States is the overwhelming center of North American trade and consumer spending. The USA is the market, and Canada has an entire economy about the size of Texas. It is ridiculous to contemplate that the Canadian government can dictate terms against the U.S. economy, and we have no option other than to adhere to them out of some demanded politeness.
Enough already. Announce the termination of the USMCA.
- Build a North American fortress.
- Secure the Western Hemisphere.
- Exit NATO.
- Respectfully engage with each bilateral interest as a sovereign nation.

We all agree! I just don’t understand what the US is waiting for? Did the admin quit listening to our voices here at the treehouse? Or is this about the midterms? I’m one of those people who’s electric will be shut off if the idiots up North follow through on their threats!
It’s a process. Sometimes that’s just the way it is.
Probably the midterms. Press would go 100 negative if he did it now.
Carney is set to speak before the European Parliament and take part in a European Political Community summit on security and trade on September 17.
It ought to be his Davos speech X10 and some standing O’s.
If I was a Canadian, I would be asking Carny why he really sabotaged the trade negotiations.
Canadians who belong to the Liberal party are truly morons. Just an iota of critical thinking would expose this idiot for the WEF tool he is.
One of the scams to destroy Canada:
Not all of us voted for this. Some of us knew better but could not change the tide, and now we will all reap the repercussions. At a loss for words.
Very few voted for the Jotard. Suck it up! He stuck it to America for four years and then some.
Canadians are subjects they do not question authority. When their English king says jump they just ask how high , and bend over so I kiss your behind.
It’s not just Canadians, Mike. Initially I’d say over 85% of Americans bent over for the CHYNA/EcoAlliance virus NON-pandemic sponsored by every MSM and government health agency mouthpiece.
What’s totally insane is the number of people who still believe all the lies.
Not all Canadians, I’ll posit.
But then everything I ever say is a sweeping generalization, and as such, not to be taken seriously. 😉
Carney is Trump’s little bitch.
You got thar right
I see two ways for this to go: if the globalists retain their stranglehold on Canada, then they will drive that economy into the ground and eventually use Canada as a proxy for China to attack the US, just like how the EU is using Ukraine to attack Russia. The goal for globalist parasites is always to steal more resources, so this seems like the most likely outcome to me.
The alternative is that the Canadian people get fed up with their deteriorating economy, throw out the globalists, and then send a new administration to the negotiating table with the US. This seems less likely because Canada doesn’t have an electoral college system. Their urban leftists control the nation’s course.
We should see clear movement one way or the other within a year, maybe even within 6 months. It’s gonna be a cold winter up north.
” use Canada as a proxy for China to attack the US, just like how the EU is using Ukraine to attack Russia.”
That’s unrealistic.
Canada, regardless of its large coastal areas, is practically a land locked country. The west coast ports can be closed easily. The same goes for the St. Lawrence River. The one port on Hudson Bay, used mostly for Agriculture exports, is only ice free a few months of the year.Canada would be overrun in weeks. The Canadian Liberal Party voters may be morons, but even they have a few brains cells left to see such folly.
They must not use those brain cells very often, they just blew one of the best trade deals ever. Now all those Canadians can suffer. They can’t fight back they gave up all there guns.
use Canada as a proxy for China to attack the US, just like how the EU is using Ukraine to attack Russia.
Really? You think Canadians will take up arms against the US because China will manipulate them into doing it?
Sorry, but there is no way Canucks will start shooting at America.
Hate to be the one to state the obvious!
If Trump wants to cancel CUSMA, it would be canceled!
The agreements Canada made with China are blatant CUSMA violations!
Yet Trump and his wolverines still tried to renegotiate CUSMA instead of kill it.
And Canada has blown up those renegotiations, to attack Trump domestically and internationally, and Trump still doesn’t end CUSMA.
Trump has a history of saying things he does not mean. Sometimes it is political lies. Lock Her Up! Usually it is a negotiating position. Kill NAFTA to get CUSMA! A good argument can always be made that he would be better off if he meant and did the things he did not mean.
Appointing Bondi and Patel. Appointing Ratcliff. Trump had no intention of cleaning up the Swamp this time around either.
Letting Z abuse him and NATO march to war, Trump has no intention of leaving NATO.
Letting Carney play and abuse him, Trump has no intention of ending CUSMA.
I love your 4 items Sundance! America would be better off. The world would be better off. Trump will be better off.
But the evidence is rolling in. We have been played by Trump. And Trump is being played by his enemies. None of that good stuff is going to happen on Trump’s watch.
It sucks being addicted to hopium. It sucks being played. It sucks watching bad things happen because the good things promised were always lies.
Do you actually read anything here posted by the people who run this place? What a bunch of bull crap you posted. Stating the obvious means you have zero clue what you are talking about.
So, you’re one of those that Bongino talks about …
You give TN a bad look. Stfu please
Many confusing issues with Trump inaction. One thing certainly affecting it…Susie Wiles.
This is all about the election. Orange man bad. Canada is our closest ally. The reason our media is not reporting what’s being presented here is because it’s all about the election. The truth must be buried.
That picture of Carnage that Sundance posts is
“flippin’ the bird” to the Canadian people.
Completely agree! USA must do those 4 things.
‘2. Secure the Western Hemisphere’
Long term important. Ninety percent of Latin America is Christian.
Sundance, how long until Carney addresses reality and caves? Or do you think this is such a stubborn man focused more on politics than economic reality that he isn’t going to back down?
Trump’s Memes Have Apparently Broken Mark Carney

Upsets him does it?
It is our patriotic duty to step up…
And I’m steppin’ 🇺🇸
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t Rubio, as senator, instigate a bill that completely voided the ability of the US to leave NATO with the blessings of the senate critters? If that is true, stop saying “leave NATO” might be impossible without a congress willing to accept the fact NATO is obsolete and an executive branch willing to fight to get us out.
Hahaha.
Wife lives in US. Kids live and study in US. House in US. 91% investments in US. Dude is a globalist puppet & a “poseur.”
Just because congress needs to approve leaving NATO doesnt mean we can’t take our toys elsewhere.
The terms Sundance puts forth at the end of his article are quite acceptable.
Oh Canada, where have you gone?
Here Here!

Great article! I fully agree with Sundnace! MAGA.
Bessent Blames China For Derailing G20 Joint Communiqué

WEDNESDAY, SEP 02, 2026 – 05:20 AM
The Group of 20 finance meetings in Asheville, North Carolina, concluded on Tuesday after four days of discussions among finance ministers and central bank chiefs on global trade. The news late Tuesday was that China had derailed the group’s efforts to issue a joint communiqué by refusing to endorse specific language targeting trade surpluses and export-dependent economic models.
“The country with the world’s largest and unsustainable current account surplus, the People’s Republic of China, was the dissenter,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters.
Bessent added, “Non-market-based economies pushing out a never-ending spring of cheap exports is not sustainable.”

Canadian geese flying around his head.
Perfect.
I agree wholeheartedly on the 4 points. What troubles me is the traitorous weenies (the ‘rats) in this country who will try to sell us down the river.
Canada becoming EU-adjacent is a violation of the Monroe Doctrine. The remedy is to blockade the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. If the problem is China, blockade Vancouver.
Where do I sign totally on board.
Yes indeed!
Announce the termination of the USMCA.
Canada has been using the US of A for more years than I have been alive (74).
It’s time to let them swim the financial ocean on their own.
Sink or swim,
Maple Leafers!! 🍁
I’m sick of them eliminat all trade let them rot on the vein!!!
The buried lede – Canada is China’s lackey. Canada sold it’s people out, and they don’t even seem to know it. Good time to get out of Canada.
CTH is on the right path.
Just because something has existed for 20…50…100 years – does not mean it’s ‘right’ or even advantageous.
Of course, the msm (which has little or no understanding of business, much less trade) is all-in for Carney and Canada – the TDS is strong in them!
Canada will be our Achilles Heel if we accept their deal.
There’s some wiff of the divine right of kings in Canada‘s attitude. They really are a remnant of British historical arrogance.
Yes, yes, and yes.
Outstanding summation ! Thanks Sundance .
I agree that it is long past time to dump the successor to NAFTA. Make the formal declaration.
The two countries of interest – Canada and Mexico – are not even remotely the same. (After all, one is partly Tropical, while the other is partly Arctic.) The only thing that EVER tied them together was that both were “re-boxing facilities” for China.
I’ve had plenty enough of “the CCP” and “CCC = Cheap Chinese Crap!” We all(!) can do better than this.
