Secretary of State Marco Rubio appears on Fox News to discuss the various goals and objectives of the U.S. military operation against Iran. As part of the interview Secretary Rubio was asked about the strategic conflicts and hypocrisies now flowing from NATO member states.
The U.S. supports our NATO posture in Europe in part because it provides us with strategic military bases and operations that are considered vital to our national interests. However, as outlined in the Iran conflict, when we need to use those strategic bases the NATO member states withdraw previous permissions. France has blocked us from flying over their airspace, Spain and Italy have said the U.S. cannot use our military bases on their soil for operations. The U.K has refused to protect and/or escort their own energy assets.
The NATO membership is now a one-way street where they demand our military protection, but Europe blocks us from using our own military assets for our independent operations.
Europe, while hiding behind the NATO protection skirt of the U.S, is simultaneously telling the U.S. what we can and cannot do with our own military. Secretary Rubio and President Trump are now confronting this very visible one-way benefit head on. WATCH (prompted).

Many of us have been asking that question for decades. The problem is we have never received a satisfactory answer. So, again, pulling up to 30,000 feet, here goes.
NATO was originally formed to protect Western Europe from an aggressively expansionist Soviet Union which was pursuing the goal of global communism. With the fall of the Soviet government, and the establishment and now the likely disintegration of the European Union, the need for NATO evolved with the landscape of its members. I would say that the purpose of NATO and American participation have now evolved BACK to one of their original, but unspoken purposes, perhaps even the main purpose: to protect Europe not from an outside enemy, but from itself.
In the Twentieth Century America had to intervene twice to end two intra-European wars and stop Europe from destroying itself.
Remember, the European Union’s original purpose was to facilitate intra-European trade and travel, to make doing business in Europe easier, both for Europeans and for the rest of the world. One set of regulatory barriers, not twelve separate ones. Comply with one country’s regs, and your products were in for allof the EU: one regulatory hurdle, not twelve. But of course, being human (and European humans at that), they couldn’t leave well enough alone. Soon the European Commission was interjecting itself into the daily lives of the citizens of its member states, going so far as to try to ban Englishmen’s electric tea kettles.
The current purpose of NATO is to prevent European states from starting another intra-European war that America would have to step in and finish ….. again. The purpose of NATO is to protect Europe from itself.
The bigger question here is why does the legislative branch force us into or to stay in these things without doing ANY due diligence?

Unfortunately I have become a completely useless cynic as far as Congress is concerned, viewing ALL of its members as slaves to whatever legislative objectives they are told to pursue by their donors. They do what the money tells them to do.
The only member of Congress for whom I have any respect is Dr. Ron Johnson. I’m not a constituent, but he is one Congressman who was, and continues to be, opposed to the handling of COVID-19. Standing up to all of the money and media headed the other way took a lot of backbone and clear thinking.
TN’s Andy Ogles was a county mayor at the time and opened the county for business. Took immense flak but Maury County prospered. Our small businesses remained OPEN.
I’d take him over Johnson. Johnson has his performative moments, if I recall.

Marco was one of the architects of the requirement for Congress to approve withdrawal from this God-awful “alliance”. He screwed us, whether he now wishes he hadn’t or not is mostly irrelevant.
I’ve liked what Marco has done working for Trump. But the likelihood of CONgressional approval to withdraw is nil (imo). There are trillions at stake, including millions for many of them and their families personally. Similar to what we see with the SAVE act, it doesn’t matter how many of their constituents would support withdrawal…they won’t vote against their own personal interests.
Hopefully it could get overturned in court via a separation of powers argument.
It was Rubio, (predicting a Trump victory in 2024?) that co-sponsored an amendment to the NDAA that would prohibit a President from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO without congressional approval. Having worked and lived in Israel for two years, I will point out that the Israel government is acutely aware of crowd control, and the tourist attractions such as the “Church of the Holy Sepulchre” are shut down any time the crowd exceeds an acceptable number…

Rubio has definitely changed from his days in the Senate and his presidential run when he was a snake. While he has done a great job I am still not totally convinced yet. The EU globalists seem to have finally agreed upon their collective messaging about the war in Iran. (And make no mistake – Starmer is thoroughly an EU globalist, even though at the moment he is limited to being an EU wannabe.) They are all now limiting or prohibiting use of their bases and air space for anything the U.S. needs to do to conduct the war. They are refusing to provide any material support, including sending naval ships, and the ships they have already sent will either be in the way or of no help at all. And all this after Iran has intentionally fired missiles on an uninvolved NATO member’s territory (Turkey) at least twice, and once on an uninvolved NATO member’s forces (a UK base in non-NATO Cyprus). So apparently even Article 5 is meaningless whenever they simply don’t want to support the U.S.
All their actions underline what Trump and Rubio have been asking – what use is NATO to the U.S. any more? The answer: they are of no use at all, they cannot be relied upon, and they only want us to remain because of our money. There is no reason whatsoever for the U.S. to stay in NATO, and there really hasn’t been for over thirty years. Time to pull out, close all our European bases, and bring all our people home. Any future defense arrangement, if any at all, should be negotiated from the ground up with a new treaty and demand a great deal more from them up front.

Yes, that is totally true. But they should consider the possible consequences of their refusals.

Some people believe U.S. Military Bases located within the borders of foreign nations are the same as U.S. soil within our own borders. That has never been true and the above should be proof to any rational thinking person. Children born on such bases are not automatically given U.S. citizenship unless at least one parent is an American citizen; and even then, those children are granted U.S. citizenship only via U.S. Naturalization and Immigration Law. That means those children cannot be natural born citizens; and, they cannot legally serve as president.
What i wonder is the following. The USA does not need let say Gulf oil/gas etc. The rest of the world does. Including Europe.
Now put on your conspiracy head.

President Trump should offer NATO 2 options, one of which they must accept.
One, reorganize NATO into a EU military and negotiate a separate security deal with the US.
Two, the US will withdraw from NATO which will lose it’s funding and it’s strength, and may well cause the EU to come apart.
Number one would be a win for the EU and the US and set up the military that Europe has never put together because they rely on the US. There would be no divisive embarrassing US schism and the US will openly negotiate a treaty that is set up for the benefit of both parties rather than just the EU.
Number two would be a disaster for Europe, cause division among the EU nations, and allow the US to focus on our hemisphere and force Europe to defend itself..
1/ Withdraw from NATO, with provision to rejoin when conditions are met.
2/ Reveal to the world who destroyed the underwater Russian gas pipelines.
3/ Hell is 5deg.F cooler — Hannity didn’t interrupt Rubio.

Trump would need two-thirds of the senate to vote in favor of voiding our NATO treaty, but he can easily refuse to render any support or materiel to them and he can redeploy our assets currently in their European countries to other places of strategic value for us. We’ll leave the lights on for them, but no one will be home. Time for all of them to grow up because we’re going to leave them in their nest.
