Air Chief Marshal Houston has told Radio 3AW he was concerned that there haven’t been any further signal detections today.

“The worry we have is that we haven’t been able to reacquire it,” he told 3AW radio.

“Underwater searching with an autonomous underwater vehicle takes an awful long time so it’s not like using an aircraft. You literally crawl along the ocean floor.” (link)

Acting Prime Minister Warren Truss described today as “critical”, as crews try and reconnect with the signals.

“The connections two days ago were obviously a time of great hope that there had been a significant breakthrough and it was disappointing that we were unable to repeat that experience yesterday,” Mr Truss told reporters in Sydney.

The Australian Authorities, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, are announcing the Australian Defence Vessel, Ocean Shield, has found two distinct possibilities of independent return ping signals which align with the same frequency and identity as the Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder of missing Malaysian flight MH-370.

Today, I can report some very encouraging information which has unfolded over the last 24 hours,” he told reporters in Perth

The initial signal was identified and held for two hours and twenty minutes as the Towed Pinger locator was dragged behind a 10 mile cable which suspends the sonar device at varying depths up to 3,000 meters.
The “ping signal” strengthened and weakened as both horizontal (distance) and vertical (depth) were travelled by the locator.    Two independent “ping signals” were identified.
According to U.S. authorities (in command of the locator) this solidifies a pattern consistent with both the flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR).  The sonar ‘ping’ signals were each recorded visually and acoustically.  (more…)

The odds are so astronomical that China could just “happen upon” the exact location of the missing airliner’s black boxes…..  such that, something else would be ab-so-lute-ly at play if this report turns out to be accurate. 

PERTH, Australia (AP) – A Chinese ship involved in the hunt for the missing Malaysian jetliner reported hearing a “pulse signal” Saturday in southern Indian Ocean waters with the same frequency emitted by the plane’s data recorders, as Malaysia vowed not to give up the search for the jet.
The Australian government agency coordinating the search for the missing plane said early Sunday that the electronic pulse signals reportedly detected by the Chinese ship are consistent with those of an aircraft black box. But retired Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, the head of the search coordination agency, said they “cannot verify any connection” at this stage between the electronic signals and the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.
Military and civilian planes, ships with deep-sea searching equipment and a British nuclear submarine scoured a remote patch of the southern Indian Ocean off Australia’s west coast, in an increasingly urgent hunt for debris and the “black box” recorders that hold vital information about Malaysia Airlines Flight 370’s last hours. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (CNN) — The investigation into Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 is now classified as a criminal investigation, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing the Malaysian police chief.

Inspector General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said authorities have already recorded more than 170 statements and will interview more people for the Flight 370 probe, the Journal said.

But Bakar cautioned that what happened with Flight 370 might still be unknown after the investigation.

He added that the investigation into the flight simulator in the pilot’s house is still inconclusive. Authorities are awaiting an expert’s report on the simulator, he said. (more…)

On the advice of our primary source you might have noticed we had not updated any information about Malaysian Airlines Flight #370 for several days.
One of the reasons for us standing pat was very insightful intel from a good Treehouse friend who knows more about covert aviation capability than we could ever comprehend.   He advised us three days ago the assumptions would more than likely shift dramatically. Last night that exact situation happened.

The Australian authorities are now saying all satellite imaging (debris field) should be discarded.   In addition they are adjusting the search area 684 miles North and East of the initial search area.   In essence they are back to square one.

(Australia) […] (N)ew satellite images released yesterday found about 122 objects floating in the southern Indian Ocean.
HMAS Success remains in the search area about 2500 kilometres southwest of Perth and was joined by four Chinese ships — Xue Long, Kuulunshan, Haikon and Qiandaohu — in the search area.  Two Royal Australian Air Force P3 Orions, a Japanese Gulfstream jet, a US Navy P8 Poseidon and a Japanese P3 Orion will fly sorties throughout the day.
Five civil aircraft will fly to the search area.

The objects detected by a French satellite, measuring from one metre to 23 metres long, were picked up four days ago and sent to the Australian search co-ordinators yesterday.
Some of the objects appeared to be bright in colour and possibly of solid material.

It’s no secret big secret that Michelle and Barack Obama are fans of Mao (except for the lo-fo voter).   The Obama’s even have Mao Christmas Ornaments on their ‘holiday tree’.  But apparently the Chinese government think the admiration is something they need to hide from everyone else.

CHINA – According to a pool reporter who was at the Great Wall of China for Michelle Obama’s visit there today, “Chinese authorities made sure, for a day, that Mutianyu [a section of the Great Wall] was visibly free of Obama-Mao t-shirts.” For $60, however, a merchant told the pool reporter that she’d sell him one of those t-shirts.

Here’s the relevant part of the pool report:
After taking the gondola back down to the parking lot, several reporters fanned out and stopped at t-shirt stalls to investigate a tip — that merchants had been told to temporarily suspend sales of t-shirts that show President Obama in a Mao hat. (more…)

It was one of the last calls made to or from the mobile of Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah in the hours before his Boeing 777 left Kuala Lumpur 16 days ago.
Investigators are treating it as potentially significant because anyone buying a pay-as-you-go SIM card in Malaysia has to fill out a form giving their identity card or passport number.
Introduced as an anti-terrorism measure following 9/11, this ensures that every number is registered to a traceable person.
But in this case police traced the number to a shop selling SIM cards in Kuala Lumpur. They found that it had been bought ‘very recently’ by someone who gave a woman’s name – but was using a false identity. (more…)

As just another idiot with an opinion here’s my best guess as to what’s happened with that Malaysian Flight 370… and why we’re here today – two weeks later.

I think it was definitely a hijacking – with full cooperation from the pilot(s).
I think it was carried out by Islamic extremists and frustrated activists.
I think the Malaysian’s were caught off guard and their projected mask of “moderate Islam” has made them incapable to act.  There is so much they just don’t want to admit.
I think the Pilot, Co-pilot and at least the two Iranian passengers were involved.
I think Iran and/or Pakistan are the best suspects for plan origination – and quite possibly both of them. (more…)

(Via Daily Mail)  Michelle Obama and three of her family  members are staying in a $8,350-per-night Beijing presidential suite, but  despite a 24-hour butler and other perks that come with the lodging, her  entourage has inconvenienced ‘pretty much everyone’ and made the hotel staff  ‘fed up,’ a well-placed hotel staffer has told MailOnline.
The sumptuous pad at the Westin Beijing  Chaoyang hotel – its website calls the room ‘an oasis of comfort –  is a 3,400-square-foot masterpiece including a private steam room, ‘corner sofas  with silk pillows,’ and in-room dining for six.
But the Obamas’ stay has already affected  staff and guests at the hotel, with the Westin front-desk veteran alleging that  Mrs. Obama’s mother Marian Robinson has been ‘barking at the staff since she  arrived.’
Government security forces from both  China  and the U.S. started Thursday to screen everyone who entered the  building,  including paying guests, setting up checkpoints that resemble those at airline  concourse entrances. (more…)
