Re “cover up in real time”: CBC Radio National News headline at 10am ET. Verbatim:
“A large fire broke out at CFB Wainwright yesterday afternoon at around 4pm. It is feared there have been several casualties. The source of the fire is unknown so far. Canadians are waiting to hear more details abut this awful event.”
They sent their reporter to the gates of the base in the dark this morning but she said she couldn’t see anything as she wasn’t allowed in. They did not send a reporter to the hospitals in Wainwright or Edmonton.
There then followed a round-table with their four AB reporters. The theme was how the Canadian Military unites Canada and we all need to pull together to help. No further details about the incident.
Psyop? Don’t know for sure yet but the CBC is certainly leveraging it as such.

I wanted to add something I’m just learning about. Many are asking “Why would you have a live fire military training base in a gas field?” Or vice-versa.
It seems there’s a long-standing mutually beneficial relationship between the two sectors. Once a land area has been granted permission by government for military use, many of the zoning, regulatory, environmental and public safety rules are waived or diminished.
This then makes the land very attractive to the Oil and Gas sector. And vice versa.

Frostback, this is all speculative and comes from commentary that I read and/or copied last night before around 3am Eastern time.
The base was conducting military COMBAT training exercises with at least 300 recruits (soldiers) FROM VARIOUS COUNTRIES when the accident occurred during dry windy conditions.
Some speculate that there may have been as many as 500 recruits participating in the training exercises.
Nevertheless, the accident has created an international incident.
As everyone is probably aware at this point, the base has been used for years to train combat soldiers and private contractors for readiness in the Ukraine.
This does not look good for Carney and the rest of those Canadian warpigs at all.

🎯 💯 I’ve seen all of the above on indy news and private posts in the last couple of hours, including one saying maybe closer to 500 casualties. Not quite solid enough to post, but sadly I think all of what you posted will turn out to be correct.
I hadn’t seen the various countries part though. If China is included or not, may be a tell.

None of the sources I’ve read have named specific countries and I doubt that will come out any time soon since the accident was so severely damaging to the personnel at the base that identifying all of them will not be soon, if they are able to be identified at all.
There were reportedly multiple explosions that leveled areas of the base.
This is really, really bad and the lack of details by the Canadian government is indicative of the severity of the situation.

Summary – devastating.
“In this case a high explosive (HE) round was being fired.
Apparently shortly after the HE round was fired it malfunctioned & dove at full speed into the ground striking either a buried natural gas wellhead or pipeline which exploded. There were casualties at this range caused by the blast wave.
Simultaneously there were some 150 soldiers training in fighting in built up areas (FIBUA or Urban Warfare) using blank ammo or just running through the basic drills using dry fire. No live ammunition, no explosives of any type, certainly no live indirect fire. There were 3 wooden structures being used & all three were completely destroyed by the blast. A significant number of casualties occurred here.
The explosion led to a grass fire which was whipped up by strong gusts of wind which blew directly through the units bivouac site (tented area where troops sleep, rest, park vehicles etc) causing additional casualties. The fire then continued on & went beyond the training area into the municipality of Wainwright.”

It’s an interesting thread. The person who posted the information is a veteran. Personally fired the weapon used and was the range officer for hundreds of other shots. He never saw or heard of a malfunction such as the one that happened…

While that appears to be the case, CT, my enquiry has more to do with why there seems to be a tight lid on exactly what happened. And more important, why the disparity with announced deaths compared to the information, slowly escaping, that there are many more than seven. Many.

I have been following this story since early, early morning, and see the subtle changes in it as more and more media pick up on it. PM Carney’s message describing only 4 dead and calling it a fire is the most significant. I had to do a lot of searching to find that statement from McGuinty as it is now deeply buried. With every statement from government, military, etc., I am being fed the narrative that it was nothing but an out-of-control grass fire that moved onto the base resulting in some deaths and some injuries.

Training in adverse conditions is required, but high wind and very dry conditions are ones where training usually gets cancelled because…fires are a distinct possibility. That there are perhaps old oil wells in the area would increase the likelihood of cancelling, or it should.

The parachute personnel are medics who are trained to come into a scene in parachutes.

There are personnel at the base from other countries, therefore it is an international incident.
Canadian national security factors in and the authorities are not required to give details to the public.
