The U.S. and EU heads went bananas at the surprise upset.
Georgescu is a nationalist, and his ideological outlook is the exact opposite of what the EU/U.S want to see. As a consequence, appeals were made to Brussels to intervene and simultaneously inside Romania the election results were reviewed by the court.
Last Monday the Romanian courts validated the first-round results, affirming their legitimacy. However, on Friday with information provided by CIA and various intelligence services, just two days before the second round of voting, the same court annulled the election results, threw out the votes, and now say another election must take place.
The EU intelligence services apparently said social media platforms like TikTok were to blame for Georgescu’s surge in popularity. His voters violated customs and norms of regular media that are used to control political outcomes in Romania, and therefore the election result cannot be allowed to stand. The people in Romania are stunned at the intervention, and no political party agrees with it.
ROMANIA – […] The Constitutional Court in its published decision cited the illegal use of digital technologies including artificial intelligence, as well as the use of “undeclared sources of funding.” It said one candidate received “preferential treatment on social media platforms, which resulted in the distortion of voters’ expressed will.”
Georgescu slammed the verdict as putting “democracy is under attack.”
“I have only one pact … with the Romanian people and God,” he said in a video statement. “We are no longer talking about fairness but rather about a mockery that betrays the principles of democracy … It is time to show that we are a courageous people who know that the destiny and rights of the Romanian nation are in our hands.”
Lasconi also strongly condemned the court’s decision, saying it was “illegal, immoral, and crushes the very essence of democracy” and that the second round should have gone forward.
“Whether we like it or not, from a legal and legitimate standpoint, 9 million Romanian citizens, both in the country and the diaspora, expressed their preference for a particular candidate through their votes,” she said.
“I know I would have won. And I will win because the Romanian people know I will fight for them, that I will unite them for a better Romania,” she added.
Some 9.4 million people — about 52.5% of eligible voters — had cast ballots in the first round in this European Union and NATO member country. The president serves a five-year term and has significant decision-making powers in national security, foreign policy and judicial appointments. (read more)
This truly is one of the most remarkable examples of the EU globalist-left, refusing to accept an election result and would rather throw their country into mass chaos than accept a nationalist leader winning the presidency.
Keep in mind, in the background of this election was a series of defeats for Bussels and the World Economic Forum globalists. It’s not (just) what they’re trying to hide, it’s what they’re trying to protect. Who gets that $24 billion? I guarantee that’s a pittance to what’s given out to Romania & other “developing nations” to build infrastructure, etc. Hard to keep the slush moving if you have national governments that won’t be held for ransom by withholding globalist “funding”, aka funneling cash to corps to “aid the country’s development.
Romania has a big NATO military base on the Black Sea ideally positioned to control all ship traffic passing from the Black Sea through the Bosporus and out into the Mediterranean (or vice versa going the other direction.)
Turkey owns the Bosporus and is a member of NATO but cannot be relied on to block ship traffic or relay information to NATO HQ. So Romania is the new reliable tool for that job.
Most of Russia’s exports of oil, food, manufactured goods, chemicals, etc. must pass through the Bosporus to get out to the rest of the world. Russia’s navy has to pass through those same straits to get to its key Mediterranean base in Tartus Syria.

I would imagine that it is at least a good part of it.
I don’t know what they are hiding. But what is not hidden is the fact. Romania is a key NATO defense country.
US has an AEGIS ashore Ballistic Missile defense site in Romania. Who’s launchers besides being used for Air defense, can can lob Tomahawks deep into Russia.
Also The Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base is being expanded to the largest NATO base in Europe. Right on Russia’s front doorstep.
A lot of arms for Ukraine pass thru Romanian ports.
Romania is a very important military asset for the US. So you can probably guess what that means for Romanian elections.
Hide? Nothing really imho they’re pretty out in the open about it. It’s about Nato ever expanding presence and infrastructure there (see largest airbase in eu being built or all the logistics infrastructure and roads being rush built to funnel things up to ukr in recent years and proposed) and the desire for entirely complaint government. Georgescu is seen a threat that might occasionally buck, as he apparently seems to have communicated at least some desire in his campaign to maintain a shred of sovereignty, and I think everyone knows how well that goes over is Brussels and DC, see Orban, but then think not as helplessly land-locked.
I’m not going to write off Romania just yet. Their fathers knew what gift to give 35 years ago almost to the day to let their political leaders know just how much they appreciated their service to Romania.
It was only three full magazines of 7.62×39, but the point was made that new leaders were strongly desired.
What happened in 1989 was a Soviet-backed coup. The “new leader” was a Soviet agent, former classmate of Gorbachev, married to a Soviet citizen.

IMHO, the CCP-PRC wants so very much to stomp in on the Romanian people and stomp them down for daring to
buck the Communist system – the CCP took the Ceausescu Takedown very badly, in deep shock at what happened to their
dear friends (why on earth did they not use the tunnels that were there for just such an escape as they needed to make). This is an important object lesson to be seen by other would-be freedom fighters who want to shrug off the
grip of the PRC, especially when the PRC is doing so well, spreading influence world-wide.
It isn’t just people like Samantha Power working to make these “color revolutions” happen – but couldn’t it be in alliance with the PRC, helping to make the world safe for Communism again?

but look back at what the Romanian people did back at Christmas time in 1989
no cell phones, no Internet, very impoverished by the Ceausescu Regime which finally got them on their last nerve when the people were told to go home and enjoy their Christmas feast. What feast? I can’t even find any cooking oil!
A Hungarian minister had been threatened to be removed from his apartment block to be taken to jail. The people just started showing up in a line wrapping around the apartment block, keeping the police from being able to get into the building. Ceausescu attempted to get the people to drop the whole idea, just go home and stop causing problems about the Hungarian minister.
