If global (non BRICS) economic contraction is akin to a western economic depression, I would argue the consequences are identical. Then, when major economies are in a state of shrinking and the citizens are feeling the horrible effects, something large is needed to change the economic equation.
With central banks raising interest rates to achieve the policy supporting contraction, the option for ‘housing starts’ to change the dynamic is removed. That leaves, ‘war’.

No offense meant, but I managed to prep with very small children in the middle of the pandemic, a divorce, and a major move. It was entirely possible to do if you worked and made it a priority. The fact that Russia is still standing has got to be driving them crazy IMO. This throws a major wrench into their gears of their so called progress. The goal was to eventually reset everything and come out on top like they have in the past. These people are arrogant and entitled and that is what makes them so dangerous. I am not so sure that most of them are even sane. It’s really hard to tell nowadays. Once they get to the point they must admit that they cannot win it will be the most dangerous moment to ever trouble humankind.

I was fascinated to see the map of current military geographic roots.
South still dominates, but what caught my attention was Utah, ND and some other rural, classic American states.
The military just isn’t drawing from these states anymore.
I’m in the heart of rural Utah. Got four brothers (not mine) just a few miles as the crow flies who are ALL rodeo champions.
The young men around here can shoot, have strong traditional values, are healthy as you get but one thing you never hear them talk about or consider is the military.
There is a disconnect that never happened in previous decades. Our small town has a significant wall of honor. Fallen young Americans in war. It’s not that there isn’t overt patriotism, they just don’t connect it with the current world events. I don’t think a draft would be respected at this point.

Today, Americans are not aware of how things works, including their government.

My wife asked me about the talk about a potential war with Russia. I told her that historically, with the rise of nation-states in the 16th century, the way social, economic, and international change occurred was through war. They will look at peace between 1918 and 1939 as historians look at the peace of Nicias during the Peloponnesian War.
To that I would add that once a generation which have experienced the horrors of war has passed into history, the following generations become more accepting of war.
If we grant thirty years to a two-generation conflict, then add a Biblical three score years and ten of peaceful life after it, we come quite close to the hundred year cycle you identify.

I wasn’t a big Trump person in 2015, either, but I attended one of his rallies in a NE blue state where we were allowed in from multiple angles, but were forced out by the cops through one exit path, where instead of traveling directly to our vehicles, we had to march through violent, deranged liberals who started by shouting at us and taking pictures, but as I had to circumnavigate the building, I was in a group of around 12 (not all together-strung out, because we were, like, 4 different parties of rally attendees), and we were attacked by leftists. Several cars drove by us, not only shouting slurs but throwing items at us from their vehicles. It was nuts-I couldn’t believe that the cops just made us walk through that gauntlet [I don’t think they’re on our side-they WILL follow orders first, help us later]. But I liked Trump’s authenticity. And I voted for him-twice. But I live in a state where I cannot openly be conservative or my life will be negatively affected…and not just because Gov. Hochul is a vicious, despotic idiot.
And right now it kills me inside that more people don’t see that Russia was set up and pushed into a corner where anything Putin does or says will be used to justify our military aid and eventual military response. I feel sorry for the innocents in Ukraine and Russia being made to suffer so globalists can play their political theater.

President Trump pointed out that SALT was a HORRIBLE deal for the US. Russia and the US limit nuke deployment, while China is free to deploy whatever it wants. Putin has actually inadvertently given us a gift. The US is now free to match the total of Russia PLUS China.
President Trump said years ago that any SALT must include China. Now Trump can hit the ground running in 2025 and won’t have to withdraw the US from a treaty Putin abrogated in 2023. Ooops!
It is the START treaty. The only problem with that is that the United States doesn’t now have the manufacturing and storage facilities to do squat. And we don’t have the money for them. Given the depth of collusion, and Biden’s stake in China and Ukraine, I would speculate there’ll be a short, bitter shooting war and eventual capitulation by the West. I have no doubt a lot of people would not go along with this at all.
The reason that Vladimir Putin suspended the treaty are a direct result of Ukraine sending armed drones to hit Russian military bases. (Ukraine would not have done this without US/UK intelligence information and plans and Russia knows that.) The START treaty allows for US/western inspection of Russian defense establishments. Russia doesn’t want inspectors looking around – filming close-up – Russian defenses to get information that they will pass on to Ukraine or use for their own attacks.
The fact that Biden spent time with Sandu of Moldova is also concerning. Could he have been asking for a corridor for US troops in Romania to cross their country to attack Transnistria which is Russian territory? Again I mention that the largest Soviet armory is in Transnistria and today’s news is that Ukraine is lining troops on the border of Transnistria.
Also reciprocity: it was mentioned the USA is not allowing for Russian inspectors to inspect its own nuclear weapons in US bases.
Something that Russia should be allowed to do according to the treaty.
Plus as you mentioned: Russia is not using the inspection to collect coordinates for an air strike. (or at least they have not fired drones at US military targets on US soil with that info)

Baby boomer here….the threat of nuclear war was like my parents constantly fighting…it was a usual fact of life….but at age 17 they finally divorced and the shock for me was huge….I feel that me and our world are near that shock moment with nuclear war.

There was this full-page ad in today’s “Wall Street Journal” that my Mom pointed out to me today . . . all the companies that left purportedly over Ukraine.
What would be interesting . . . what WILL be interesting . . . is when we sit down and look at that list and examine that list and see which companies are still in the PRC, doing business in and with the PRC, in spite of all the things that the CCP has done, is doing and plans to do.

My observation is this, basically: they stormed out of Russia but they are okay with doing business with the PRC, notwithstanding human rights issues, aggressions on neighbors, plans for us.
