Dear Treepers,
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.
We are blessed and thankful to be unharmed and safe. Unfortunately, like thousands of others, our home took major damage.
The roof could not withstand hours of 140 mph winds. The front side of the storm had weakened it, and the backside had compromised it. There are multiple structural failures all around my neighborhood.
We have no power, water, or internet etc. All my time today will be spent working on debris removal, temporary patches, and simple recovery survival.
However, all will be okay.
All my love,
Sundance

Yes; The DeSantis presser specifically mentioned that one. That will allow immediate targeting of recipients because they are ready with lists.

Thank you for the link.
Easy, straightforward and confirmed it’s not a scam.
I am so glad you and your family are safe. God Bless you and give you strength.
As we were going through the sad, stressful, busy time preparing to bury my sister Tuesday, leaving me the last one standing from my nuclear family, my heart went out to those in a similar situation who were in the path of the hurricane.
May they receive extra endurance, guidance, and peace during this time of turmoil.
I’m so sorry to read about your sister. We all support you. (( Hugs ))
That is just wonderful, that you think about other people at this time.
Your words mean more than I can say.
TR God Bless you greatly for such compassion when you are going through one of the worst times of your life. Prayers sir🙏🏻
I buried my brother at age 28 … saddest time of my life. I also got married shortly thereafter … which saved my life from the shock and loneliness of losing my only sibling. Yes, we are still married 39 years later. May you find the peace which passes all understanding and may the Lord keep you and make His face shine upon you, Amen. And may the Lord USE the people close to you to ease your pain.
Now, I have tears in my eyes. Bless you.
I’m sorry. I meant to give you hope and the ability to endure. Our departed loved ones would want us to be well, and do well. I pray you are supported and comforted … *virtual hug*
My tears were tears of gratitude for the care and compassion you and the others offered to someone you’ve never even met!
I’ve never before been on the receiving end of anything resembling the CTH community’s selflessness and kindness.
This site is powerful and unlike any other I’ve ever known. I believe that God uses and protects this mighty tree!
That’s sweet, and so nice. God uses each of us to be His ambassadors of love and care. We touch each other in deep, deep, ways we don’t even fully understand.
May God give you comfort and peace that surpasses all understanding. I too am the last one left so I understand what you are feeling. The feeling is unlike anything Ive ever known. Stay strong my friend, the younger ones are looking to us for direction. Praying for you
Truly, “ The feeling of being the last one left is unlike anything I’ve ever known.” It began after the goodbye visit and was something I had known factually, but was not at all prepared for the intensity. I suspect it will not be short-lived.
There are so very many special memories that can never again be shared with someone who was “there.”
So many questions that will never be answered by someone who “knew.”
So many new things that will remain unshared here on this earth.
I appreciate your words and your prayers.
May your sister rest in peace. Best wishes to you. The stages of grief are difficult and heart wrenching.
Thank you.
So sorry for your loss.
Thank you.
Please accept my deepest condolences. Take care Texas Rancher.
Thank you.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Thank goodness you and your family are safe! I hope power and water will be restored asap. Prayers for everyone affected…hoping they are safe, too.
So sorry to hear about the damage, the pictures of the devastation are heartbreaking. Sundance, I’m thankful that you and your family are safe. Anything we treepers can do, to help you even a little bit, let us know. Much love and respect, from Texas.
Thoughts, prayers, and a donation to follow. Living in Paradise isn’t “free”. As I sit here, hoping, the epicenter of the next earthquake is far from my Family Room.
I agree….. I can remember going to Sanibel island back in the 1990s. It was beautiful.
Went on a fishing boat and my girlfriend hooked a shark. I had to help her bring it in.
I hear that the island is pretty torn up.
Thoughts and prayers to all affected.
So happy to hear you and family are safe.
Now, continuing prayers for added strength while you deal with the aftermath.
THANK YOU so much for the update! (and Ad rem) 😉
Prayers up, again and again, Sundance! Blessings on you and everyone around you.
My son in Fort Myers says radio station reporting “rampant” looting.
The Purge phase is underway already.
Hope your son stays safe Janet and his damage losses are few.
Brother in law’s house in Fort Myers had water to roof. They are waiting to get back into neighborhood.
I remember the looting after H Katrina. Maybe in some places RDS can bring in National Guard.
Hope the National Guard, State and Local law enforcement and armed citizens are able to stop this and deal with the looters….
Lee county Sheriffs were even out last night.
There’s a curfew in Lee county and Collier and probably up north.
People there will return fire. No doubt about it.
Beware the carpetbagger fraudsters. But a man like SD isn’t foolish or gullible. And one of my favorite expressions is: Only a swindler can be swindled. SD is no swindler. He’s a GIVER. May God repay you for all you GIVE in your “act of nature” time of need.
When I try to donate using my credit card it wants me to use Pay Pal and I don’t want to do that. I can’t get it to go through. Is there an address to send money order to? This has happened to me before. Any help would be appreciated.
I just donated via cc. It was the blue bordered oval selection just below the yellow Pay w/Paypal oval.
Maybe our computers see differently. ?
The cc option is still processed by paypal, you just don’t have to have a paypal account to use it.
Thx for that info Dune. I’m ok donating via that method I guess.
Same thing here! I hate Pay Pal but couldn’t get credit card button to work right.
I swallowed my dislike of PP and donated. It needs done.
Will do what I can to assist financially. I too, am thankful lives were not lost. However, I won’t repeat the old adage “things can be replaced” even though they can, It is still a major, often uphill battle, to do so. Praying for strength/comfort as you move forward. Franklyn Graham’s, Samaritans Purse is headed your way with “on the ground, living bodies” to assist.
Bless all
God keep you safe and may he give you all the strength you need.
So sad to hear of all of the devastation and suffering.

Sundance, glad to hear you and your family are safe!
Been thinking about you, Bro … mentioned in prayer, too …
Thanks for checking in, and stay strong!
Sundance, prayers for you and your family. We evacuated to another state with relatives, and are shocked to see the level of devastation. So many places we go to regularly, like Junkanoo’s at the beach…literally gone. Sanibel causeway damaged in places and swept away in others. Awaiting more info on our home, but early reports are promising. The extent of damage is beyond comprehension.
Thanks to all and everyone who ultimately helps our community and our people recover over the upcoming weeks and months.
Glad to know that you are safe, Sundance and family. Will continue praying as you work to restore and clean up.
Sorry to hear that Sundance, I got super lucky in Central Florida, I lost power at 10pm last night but it has been restored already. No flooding for me but many around here are (streets) overflowing lakes, rivers etc. Prayers for all.
We were lucky too. I fully expected to be without power like we were with Charley, Frances, and Irma. We still have power. I am worrying about the St John’s peaking in the next week or so. These waters have to go somewhere.
I too am in central Florida NW of Ocala. We lost power for 4 hours yesterday when a tree came down. We were lucky. Prayers for all.
Glad to hear you’re unharmed. Stay safe and update us when you can.
Sundance, continued prayers for you and all who were affected by this immense and powerful storm.
Glad to know that you & yours and safe & unharmed… all else can be replaced or rebuilt.
Isaiah 26:3-4
3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.
4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever:
for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
May the Lord be with you and your family this day Sundance.
Shalom.

One of the orgs I give to during times as these.
They will be in the field shortly serving meals in the devastated areas.
Oh Lord, please be with all those affected.
I spent untold hours looking for shells on the beach at Sanibel behind Tortuga Resort and Sanibel Cottages over 30 years. It breaks my heart to see what has happened to the island, also to the residents and their homes, along with the resorts. I know how long it took to recover from Hurricane Charley (which we experienced also at our home up the road in Lake Suzy) and I wonder if it will ever be able to come back from this. I remember back when the trees on the main street were so tall and met each other in the middle over the road. I also spent much time on Boca Grande Island, haven’t seen how it has been left, but I imagine it is not pretty. So sorry for all who have to rebuild. It is a harrowing process.
I’m so sorry about the damage to your house, but thank God you and yours are safe.
Great attitude Sundance, so thankful you and yours are OK
It’s amazing that palm trees can withstand such high winds.
I’m so sorry, Sundance. The pictures of the devastation is heartbreaking. My husband’s company is sending crews to help restore power.
I’m glad you are well and my prayers go out to you and the family. I know the feeling Sundance all too well. Last year Ida parked herself right over my house as she stalled out catching 2/3rds of the inner eye wall for 6 hours.
On a side note, occasionally I’ll work with the Cajun Navy during the recovery and logistical support. Next Wednesday I’ll be delivering three pallets of water and dry goods to help with the recovery effort. Just waiting to see where they want us to stage up at.

Naples area . 2 miles from gulf. Lots of trees down. Took a drive along gulf drive in Naples. Lots of flooding. Trees down. 50% of traffic lights are 4 way stops. What surprised me was 100 car lines at every gas station. Pray and help others.
Relieved to know you are safe. I continue to pray for you and your neighbors as you deal with this daily. Stay safe and be well.
Prayers are you and yours Sundance..
Happy for your Safety, and praying for your speedy recovery.
God Bless
So very sorry to hear that. Just know we will be here for you as you are for us.
Sobering images. But I must say, I don’t think there is a tree better suited to withstand that kind of wind than a palm tree. Perfectly constructed.
I am grateful for all your exhaustive research and efforts to weed through the political bs. These upcoming months will be challenging for your family. You are in my prayers.
Sundance – thank God you are all safe and unharmed. Continuing to pray for you, all your family and all who are suffering for the loss of life of their loved ones, for graces in responding to and working in rescue, recovery and repairs. May this be the time when facing common adversity, many more may respond to God’s invitation to be sower of God’s word of peace and mercy.
God Bless You. So glad you and your family are alive and safe. God will provide for all your needs. He always does.
Thank heavens you’re safe. Take good care. Prayers going up.
Glad to hear you’re ok Sundance. Sending you our best wishes from Canada.
Take care.
Shields High…
Thank you for the update. Thankful that you and your family are safe.
Sundance

Tide gage wrap-up post-storm
Ft Myers experienced storm surge to +8 feet above mean sea level at the gage
Naples gage stopped transmitting at 1:06 pm yesterday at +7.5 feet above MSL, and from that time onward, Ft Myers gage rose another 6 feet. So by simple comparison (best that can be done), Naples may have experienced storm surge to +13 or 14 feet or so MSL
St Pete tide gage experienced blowout (so-called ‘reverse’ storm surge) to -5 feet below mean sea level, about -3.5 feet MLLW mean lower low water (for all you boaters who can envision what sandbars you’d have been stranded high-and-dry on had you be out boating)
I haven’t made a plot but it looks like Jacksonville had storm surge to about +4 feet MSL
Charleston experiencing about +2 feet of storm surge just now
Thank you for these postings and explanations–
you’re very welcome, Sharon
pls forgive my lateness with this, I forgot to acknowledge your thanks yesterday
NOAA has a nice point-and-click interface for searching and displaying water level stations (tide gages) and data
https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/inundationdb/storm/Ian.html
note: their data are referenced to mean lower low water datum (MLLW), you have to toggle to MSL if you want it referenced to mean sea level (a more intuitive “zero” – to me, at least, if you’re concerned about on-land issues and not out boating)
Thanks for the update, Sundance — so glad you survived the storm. Sorry to hear about the damage — praying God’s strength and provision as you deal with cleanup and repairs. We love you!
Good to hear you are ok; continued prayers for you and family. Blessings.
I can only relate to this cataclysmic disaster by reviewing the photographs and video that has circulated. This is certainly the worst damage from a hurricane I can remember.
May God give you strength to endure this, all who were in its path. Help is coming.
I kneww something had happened since e hadn’t heard from Sundance in a while. God speed Sundance.
Prayers for you Sundance and all others affected in FL… 🙏🙏🙏
I Thessalonians 5:18. It’s the secret to working miracles.
My family is glad to hear that your family is okay. We have yet to hear any news from my sister-in-law and her family who live in Bradenton. I pray they are okay.
The power is out in most of that area and cell service is very spotty. They didn’t get any storm surge because the winds coming from the Northeast in the storm (from offshore) actually pushed the water in the area out into the Gulf. People were actually walking on the bed of Tampa Bay yesterday. Sustained wind 35-40mps yesterday. Top wind gusts in Sarasota were 86mph, so they are probably OK. I hope so! Godspeed to all impacted by this monster storm for strength, healing, and rebuilding!
