I saw an interesting theory that the big (deeper pockets) AI guys are calling for regulation because it will make it difficult for the smaller guys to compete and would put the smaller guys out of business. It would also make it very difficult for any new companies or startups to enter the space.

I keep seeing people saying this, and yet none of them can ever explain HOW exactly AI and data centers are going to bring about this Greatest Economic Development in history. What exactly is the business model here? Who is the customer? Because it looks very much as if the customer is going to be the government, and the business model consists of “private corporations” spying on us all the time and selling the data to Uncle Sam.

What do we do about the nefarious active AI out there getting into everything. It seems to me we need an AI police that are constantly watching over other AI in this scenario. Is anybody developing that? Why don’t we hear about AI’s that are watching over business and personal interests?
There are also the products that AI produces like imagery, video, audio, analysis, and even tangible things like tools, cars, or even individual parts in complex machines. In this case we need labeling, like copyrights, that clearly identifies that the item is AI generated. We also need laws that prevent removing those labels and re-using or passing along any AI content without the identification label.
If you want to look at other “new” things introduced into society, cars might be a deft analogy. When the Model T became available everybody went a little nuts racing, modifying, crashing, getting stuck, vacations, and replacing the horse economy. Eventually many companies came and went and cars became part of life and essential even though they are still inherently dangerous. Fortunately cars didn’t have a mind of their own.

Top AI leaders want to slow the development of their top-end models.
The coordinated response comes as AI faces lots of headwinds.
That doesn’t mean their concerns aren’t real, but the timing is also self-serving.
Imagine a pharmaceutical company spends nearly four years touting a ground-breaking new medicine that will cure all diseases.
Early evidence supporting those claims is limited, and massive questions remain, but the company continues to make progress. Criticism and concerns, while addressed, don’t slow its aggressive push.
After all, investors believe this is the real deal. (Or at least a really good bet.)
And then right before the pharma company unveils its fancy new drug, it gives a shocking update: It turns out the medicine could also be a poison. So, for the safety of all involved, progress in the space needs to be slowed to ensure things don’t go off the rails.
That’s basically the big debate going on in AI land these days.

Most commercial servers are Microsoft and everyone relies upon Microsoft patches to found vulnerabilities. It only takes a hidden vulnerability from Microsoft communicated (and not patched) to Anthropic to allow worldwide access. The language of AI is TCP/IP, like a fish to water, AI is to the network.
Major breach like a ransomware attack deleting data caused by AI will shut down corporations for months. These are systems that handle all logistics for food markets, financial networks, medical networks, power grids, etc. Might able to have kill switches activated on modern vehicles.
