This is not The Onion or any form of spoof. This is real life, and it is happening today.
Amid a heatwave throughout most of Texas, The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, is urgently asking Texas residents to conserve electricity because “it has projected a shortage in energy reserves Monday “with no market solution available.” Voluntary conservation is needed between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday.”
The problem, as the Texas power authorities have identified it, is outlined via NBC News:
According to ERCOT, factors driving the need for this important action by customers:
-
-
- Record high electric demand. The heat wave that has settled on Texas and much of the central United States is driving increased electric use. Other grid operators are operating under similar conservative operations programs as ERCOT due to the heatwave.
-
-
-
- Low wind. While solar power is generally reaching near-full generation capacity, wind generation is currently generating significantly less than what it historically generated in this time period. Current projections show wind generation coming in less than 10 % of its capacity.
-
Conservation notifications are issued when projected reserves may fall below 2300 MW for 30 minutes or more, according to ERCOT. (link)

There is more than enough coal and natural gas in Texas to run electric turbines for 500 years. This is simply unnecessary, yet here we are. What a mess.
The commies destroy all they touch, such is their nature. Our mistake was ever giving them the power to change our way of life and listening to them in the first place.
I didn’t give the commies power. I’m in Cochise County AZ and my vote was stolen.
Oil/gas rich Texas is short on electricity? How ironic.
biden signed an EO in march to crack down on oil & gas production in tx
CA refused to comply with ANY of Trump’s EOs, and Gavin Newsom completely ignores Supreme Court rulings that declare his EOs illegal. CA Democrats don’t skip a beat when it comes to their illegal activity and don’t seem to care one iota about the ensuing lawsuits. Why is TX being such a wuss about all this? To be fair, I’m not knowledgable about all that goes into getting the oil & gas out of the ground & into consumer use, but why doesn’t TX just defy the Emperor Penguin and do what they need to do to take care of their citizens?
Fire up the lignite generators boys and tell general santanna Biden to pound damn sand!
They have been destroyed.
Not ironic. “How stupid” is more like it.
Agreed, plus 3rd and 4th Generation Nuke plants, is clean energy too. This should be a no brainer.
Then again our leaders are idiots who take energy instructions from a crossed eyed Swedish child who knows nothing but yells at us about empty promises.
Swipe Right for Nuclear: An Introduction to 6 Advanced Nuclear Technologies | Department of Energy
We didn’t ask for or want ercot for our city, they forced it on us, even knowing about the problems last winter.
And you end up with the same problems as California: utility companies are forced into spending money on “green” energy equipment & not maintenance on equipment. It was the main reason for the deaths in February 2021 when Texas had the unexpected ice storms. It took out wind machines that hadn’t been greased for more than a yr & then down went conventional equipment as well because equipment hadn’t been winterized.
In AZ we have cooling centers-stations where the elderly and at risk can go and hang out when it gets really hot.
National Weather Twitter in Az has information on heat related news.
Heat illness is no joke. Know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Know the symptoms.
Drink plenty of water. Even if you are not thirsty. Drink water!
The siesta time works for me. Get up early. Do all chores and errands. I have no problem with the errands…my vehicle A/C is sporadic-at best.
After all is done -stay indoors. Close windows and blinds. Meals-salads. Nothing you have to cook.
If you have outside grill use that instead of stove.
Lots of cold showers! Laundry–late at night. Hang clothes on line outside if you can.
Did I say—Drink Water and lots of showers? Chuckle 😃
And Mr. Fan is your new best friend!
Hang in there!
Don’t you just want to go up to any “greenie” you see and give them a scolding they will never forget!
They are stupid idiots.
In California, they want us to wash our trash. And you can look that up by city….
Wash your trash? Oh boy! 🤪
Whoever thought of that one needs a bath.
Lye soap and a hard scrub brush type of bath.
What a waste of water to wash trash. Water is precious here in the desert.
In a state desperate for water! Yup, just what they need to do. Wonderful people these libs. Left unrestrained and they will kill us all.
Yes!!! But also to conserve and cut water use by another 20%. They need to decide if they want us to save water or clean out all our recyclable containers- both doesn’t work well. Of course, ca could quit dumping 50% of our stored lake and reservoir water out to the ocean for a 2” fish!!!
We live in SoCal and we never heard of this.
i recieved a notice from my trash service about this a month ago…doesnt go into effect til 2024 i think…i tossed it in my unrecycled and un-sorted trash can.
Perhaps ours ended up in the same place.
IL wanted us to wash our recycling, too. Did not happen like they wanted.
More like a slap upside the head.
All true. If we would only start building many coal-fired power plants our energy problems would be solved. More good folks would have well-paying jobs, more coal miners would have jobs and most liberal heads would explode! Sounds like a win/win to me. You?
I remember my grandfather’s coal stove! Guess you could say I have coal dust in my veins!
Sounds like a win win to me!
At least that coal stove kept the house toasty warm.
I spent at least 10 hours a week, on average, underground in coal mines for 40 years! More than 10 early in my career and less in the middle and end. Hard work but fun as long as I practiced personal safety and watched out for myself and others. I’ve had a part in keeping lots of houses electrified over the years!
My aunt had a coal-fired potbelly stove in her miner’s shack in Colorado. Even in subzero temperatures, it kept the cabin nice and warm but if you weren’t careful, too warm! I loved coal heat and it helps plants grow!
Hey, gotta watch “the grillin’, there is ‘air quality’ to worry about”/s Could ERCOT confiscate your grill?
When I was a kid in Panama, back in the day…businesses shut down from about 11:30 to about 2pm-2:30, for siesta. The folks ate a very late dinner, after dark. And no one was in a hurry to do anything. We yanks got it all wrong!
Walk slow and drink plenty of water !
And Siesta Time is fantastic!
Yup. We have it all wrong!
An afterthought…all those nice, crystal clear above the ground swimming pools? Will they turn off the filter systems?
I wounder about the algae buildup in all that heat if they are forced to turn the filters off or if they have blackouts.
There goes the price of pool chemicals. And the environment as one vacuums to “waste”.
And then the mosquitoes in those pools. …and then the pesticides to battle the mosquitoe problem.
Doesn’t sound to “eco-friendly ” to me!
These greenies are stupid.
The greenies have now applied a NEW stupid to the meaning stupid. What are we to do with them. They vote you know!
I’d rather give them a beating for their stupidity and lack of critical thinking skills.
Seems they found about 3,000+ MW of supply around 2 PM CST.
If you read much about how ERCOT manages the grid after the ’21 Freeze, you’d know they have standby capacity. And you’d know that putting that standby online costs 10+X as much as any contract costs. So the call for conservation was very likely less about rolling blackouts than it was about trying to avoid calling in the standby capacity.
I’m an engineer with 35+ yrs unrelated experience. I’ve got a BSEE, but don’t really use it (other than learning how to solve complex problems). I did a lot of reading after the ’21 Freeze because the complexity of restarting a grid the size of the one that ERCOT manages was simply fascinating.
In that reading, it became clear the failure was NOT related to wind power. The failure was in the nat gas supply to the plants, which froze. Why? Because ERCOT didn’t make the companies harden the system from a similar freeze a decade before.
So, if the wind power outage today truly was a high risk due to the weather, which should be predictable within 5-10% for wind speed, the issue is more likely mismanagement of resources by ERCOT, not due to wind failure.
That said, wind fails, supply fluctuates sometimes wildly. Those variances require substantially more reserve capacity available and planning to manage it. Comes with the territory.
It’s never really as simple as the news makes it look…. almost always on systems this complex there are multiple factors at play. And THAT is the responsibility of the managing organization, not 20-30% of the power generating type.
My $2 worth (post-Biden inflation value of 2 cents).
My ex worked at a nuclear power plant…and yes, the media makes it seem very simple. If people only knew and understood 10% of power generation and transmission/transfer/delivery.
I do health care and all I know is that my and my patient’s power needs are met when I flip a switch here and press a button…and hospitals have back up generators.
You provided some insight and I learned something, thank you!
Wow! Thanks.
And yet somehow Bushie Abbott won the primary. Why did people in TX vote for him? I can see people in TN doing this with the open primaries we have here where Dems come out in droves to vote in the RINO candidate for governor every single time. I don’t think that TX has open primaries though, do they?
When you go in to vote in Texas for the primary, they ask you Republican or Democrat and they give you the card for your voting machine. So if you say Republican then you can only vote for a Republican in the primary.
I voted for Allen West! I don’t think enough Texans know Allen West even though he went all over the state. I also don’t think they know Abbott is not a strong conservative. He did everything he could do before the election to please the conservatives, even giving right to carry, but he didn’t take care of the invasion. I think he should call Allen West and ask him what to do about the border, I’m sure he can tell him.
I was disappointed Allen West wasn’t elected. I had heard nothing untoward about him, then saw a couple of things. Bet he would have taken care of the border a little quicker and also the energy situation. I don’t vote in your state but I pay attention.
Allen West is from FL..He was a house rep, member of the Tea Party.
I voted Chad Prather. Other people I know voted for Chad Prather as well, or for Allen West, or Don Huffines, but none of us voted for Abbott. It did not matter who we voted for because Abbott would have to get a full 51%+ to avoid a run off against ALL other candidates. That was why we ran the hashtag #AnyOneButABBOTT to force a runoff with one of the other candidates.
Miraculously he walked away in a landslide that I do not believe was possible, but they avoided a runoff with any of the other candidates with those extraordinary numbers using Dominion.
Once we put that Dominion printout of known fraud into the Dominion “reader” we have no idea what we voted for other than their claims that what we had on our printout with a Q Code was correctly tabulated.
Remember that they hanged and got rid of Chad with their bloviated fiascoes because he was a Yes or No kinda counting guy without decimals or fractions.
Sorry, but Abbott always had a lock on the primary. Incumbents get that advantage, name recognition and all; plus he didn’t do anything earthshakingly wrong-headed. A non-vote in November is a vote for Beto.
We voted against Beta. Not FOR RINO Greg.
Because Trump endorsed him for some reason. True conservatives don’t like him much. He’s too dependent on the Yen and is surrounded by progressives in Austin. I’m not voting for him again this time. Leaving that one blank
Good for you! Leave an unopposed Democrat vote and elect them Democrats! We don’t want folks who support us 2/3 of the time because we want folks who are against us 90% of the time so we can teach those RINOs a lesson.

Save the Planet!
This means the rodent populations will increase. The life cycles are being destroyed.
Then buzzards will be an endangered species. Then there will be too many of them. Then they will target our pets.
How sickening, and what a waste.
Mostwind turbine blades have an inner scaffolding of balsa wood clear-cut from the Amazon Rainforest.
Condors?
Just like Mao’s “Great Leap Forward” plan of killing off all the sparrows in the country that ate insects that destroyed crops. Starvation and food shortages followed. These Democrat and RINO Communist Maoist scum have lofty ideas that end up having catastrophic consequences.
“Green scam”, “Great Reset” and “Save the Planet” equals no power, kill birds, food shortages and eventually starvation for millions across the world. All in the name of the WEF Nazi Klaus Schwab, Bill Gates, and the rest of the elitist Davos crowd. When are people going to wake up?
How are we ever going to get out of this mess? Bill Gates is buying up land here and elsewhere to get rid of cows/milk and beef, The Netherlands, one of the largest food producers in the world, is putting farmers out of business, Belgium is in agreement, these WEF fools like John Kerry, Gates, and others are running around world in gas guzzling planes, and we sit here watching and waiting for the power grid to implode due to our idiotic leaders whoever they are. WHO IS THE PUPPET MASTER???
Satan
I would offer up Klaus Schwab, a handful of Wall Street clowns, or Al Roker as the puppet master. Two of three are serious answers.
Couldn’t have ANYTHING to do with geoengineering the weather, right?
Love,

Many do not know about that Lori. I read a few years back about Rhodesian “Cloud Seeding”.
“The liberal urge to ‘save’ humanity is a false front to enslave humanity” Perfect quote to use for this Globull Warming=Carbon Tax= mass murder scheme they are attempting.
“America IS a “melting pot”, sure enough.

And goes to the District of Corruption.
They’ve been playing tic tac toe up there for several hours today. I love it when the trails expand and become those lovely rose colored tube clouds. They spay several times a week in Placer county. Quite unsettling and no one cares to even look up while its happening let alone do anything about it.
Why not just:
Power the windmills with diesel generators?
Problem solved!
Because diesel fuel is in very low supply. Even the transportation industry is in dire straights and becoming dangerous.
I didn’t think I needed the /sarc tag.
but, it’s /sarc
I don’t care what others say, my personal experience is you ALWAYS need a sarc tag, otherwise SOMEONE is guaranteed to take your comment seriously.
Texas has been Fundamentally Transformed.
Last chance was Allen but they blew it.
It’s now California South.
key facts (that many do not realize or know…pay attention…this will happen to your state in the near future).
this is specific to Texas
windpower is not base load grid energy. Wind (and solar). It never can be base load grid energy. This is not just my opinion. Windpower (and solar) are a type of “buffer” grid energy. In years prior to wind and solar major energy providers would establish small coal fired or natural gas fired generation in addition to base load power to serve as a type of buffer. You can think of it as a reserve gas tank on your vehicle. You don’t get stranded out in the middle of nowhere when your main fuel tank gets depleted. This is a necessary and engineered method to provide highly reliable grid energy.
What happened was during the obama administration, that regulations and carbon penalties were focused on these smaller bugger generation plants. The idea (an idiotic one) was to reduce the reliance on coal and natural gas (and to some extent nuclear) and turn that niche industry totally green over time. There are several problems with this scheme. Obviously when the sun does not shine (solar) or in this case when the wind just does not produce enough energy…(coupled with a very low volume of wind powered generations facilities), then you end up with the base load at risk. Ercot is very different than almost all other states. Texas Grid is not interconnected to other states. There are high power long distance transmission lines but these are not used on a regular daily basis to trade and exchange electrical power to other states. If you noticed this during the hard cold snap a few years ago, you will recognize this unique (and mostly political) condition that texas placed itself in. *(by comparison, louisiana is internconnected to 3 other state grids systems and we do daily exchange power….this is the smartest way to prevent overload of one system by combining the energy and bearing the risks out to a larger capacity and potential.
What you are seeing here just a small peek into what tomorrow looks like.
as more states are FORCED (economic ransom from the all seeing uncle sam), to get off coal and natural gas and move to solar and wind power, the highly availability of a grid electrical buffer is reduced to just those alternative sources of power and subject to all manner of frequent loss of buffer base load.
At a future date, I will expand on this topic and discuss why electrical battery storage (aka, tesla’s solar city and others efforts) will not be capable of providing grid energy buffer.
At a future date, I will expand on this topic and discuss why nuclear power is the most efficient and reliable base load AND buffer energy source for THE WORLD’s electrical power demand.
the lunatic fringe in texas is very active and have been for many years in the energy sector. Ercot is a good example of what happens when otherwise professional engineers and bankers, politicians AND PEOPLE try to take shortcut and make huge assumptions about how to power the grid. None of this is new science. The economics and engineering requirements as well as the best most efficient, ecologically sound, energy has been solved already.
The lunatic fringe and its crazy politics is going to absolutely kill people.
Not many older people can survive 113 degree fahrenheit days. Not too many very healthy people can actually work in it.
a small upset in the electrical grid is similar to a hurricane or a flood in terms of the immediate and long term effects.
texas needs to recover it’s sensibilities and move toward nuclear and clean fosssil fuels for its base load and buffer.
It also needs to step back and reconsider the long term realities of ignoring and refusing to do what other states are already doing.
ercot is like boeing…it’s a captive market…a monopoly.
It can be fixed, but I believe it will take a wicked hot set of several weeks without reliable power and cooling to make it a political top priority.
jmho
You said:
windpower is not base load grid energy. Wind (and solar). It never can be base load grid energy. This is not just my opinion. Windpower (and solar) are a type of “buffer” grid energy.
But it is in Texas. That is the problem. The base load I saw over at the ERCOT site was 20% for wind and solar. That’s nuts.
I believe the commenter was referring to wind and solar’s inability to fill the definition of base load energy. Exactly due to it’s unreliability, expensive and maintenance intensive power storage systems, and extreme inefficiency of converting alternative storage methods to electrical energy.
Understand. Thanks for pointing that out. Didn’t word it too well. I did want to reiterate that ERCOT policy to include wind/solar in base load is not only flat out dumb, it’s dangerous and has already proved deadly in the ice storm down here last year.
In many States, (tried in Az.) they aren’t content to mandate a certain percent by Legislation, instead they try for a State Constitutional amendment.
Which means its far more difficult to correct or undue, when the shortcomings become obvious.
Almost like they KNEW, at the outset it wasn’t gonna work.
Not all counties in Texas are on the windmill band wagon.
Many still use natural gas to power electricity. That is why the freeze of 2021 did not affect power in most of Texas.
https://www.star-telegram.com/news/state/texas/article256316372.html
Gov. Abbott is cracking down on the illegal invaders:
https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-authorizes-texas-national-guard-texas-department-of-public-?safety-to-return-illegal-immigrants-to-border
Why in heck is Texas relying on wind. Who implemented these policies??
Idiots, of course!
T. Boone Pickens was pushing it big for a while, but then he concluded it wasn’t economically viable. I remember him on Fox saying he was abandoning it because the cost of transmission lines was too expensive.
And whatever you do, don’t plug in that EV!
I’ve been in Texas for a while, north and south central. I remember when Austin was on LCRA. Austin is now Austin Energy (muni util), LCRA is one of their suppliers. Austin shut down a local generator and spent millions on a “generator” in east Texas that runs on wood chips. It has never generated. They encouraged Austinites to get solar panels, but Austin gets the RECs and energy users got a virtue to slap others with. Generating 12VDC without conversion isn’t understood, apparently.
It’s hot *and* humid. Five lakes and the Colorado River see to that.
ERCOT is a mismanaged outfit primarily staffed by nonresidents. It’s been around for decades. Abbott has not. Can’t wait 20 years and blame it on the latest in the governor’s house.
These “Green New Deal” fools need to stop and think what they’re doing to our country.
Instead of tying OUR HANDS when it comes to powering our homes and industries, we need to hold the BIGGEST global polluter (China) accountable.
Don’t mean to be rude, LJP2014, but they WANT to do this to our country. It IS the plan.
Exactly, this has NOTHING to do with the environment.
Or in the alternative, maybe we should just institutionalize the greenies so they are in a safe place, and can think big incorrect thoughts with their peers but not actually hurt anyone.
Add this to the list of reasons why I’ll never own an Electric Vehicle except under duress/coercion.
FJB
Since we now base our entire economy and existence on fairy tale fantasies, perhaps the progressives could employ another of their fairy tales and get a butterfly to flap its wings in Africa to generate a hurricane in Texas to power those idle windmills.
I would welcome reports on the immigrant reception centers. Will THEY be turned off 2PM-8PM?
On another note, I recall reading the impassioned pleas of a prominent Cherokee, ca. early 1800’s, to embrace the inventions of the White Man. He scored many reasonable points about shoes, writing, food production, etc. Today, we look like fools. I see no advancement at all, if we use use today’s Texas condition as an exemplar. The house is full of cool inventions, frozen to a stand still.
Serious question: How do we make the stupid stop?
Well, we can’t vote em out. That’s been shown.
And the corporations have too much power, influence, and money
to be broken. It would take a massive reform of corporate law here.
Kind of like the trust busting in the early 20th century.
And that doesn’t account for the multi nationals, international trade groups and law structures.
Clinton, Bush and Obammy sold us out.
I don’t know how to legally do it, but I’m no expert .
PDJT started to change policies. And we know how that ended.
Im open to suggestions that aren’t illegal or unfit for posting.
So they pulled the same bullshit as the freeze. They are forecasting wind power to be more than 5% of their generation of power.
The exact same bullshit is lesion number 2 that the people of Texas are going to have their rates skyrocket again in less than 2 years.
ERCORT needs to be met with pitch forks.
Build more power plants, and fuel them with coal, natural gas, and nuclear. There you go, a problem easily solved. If a greenie opens his yap, laugh at him/her and continue your path.
In a reply to an earlier post that storage for power doesn’t exist. Liquid metal batteries have been invented at MIT and are marketed by LMBC ” Liquid Metal Battery Corporation” that store power line energy generated on off peak hours from all types of generators.
I don’t believe in chasing windmills like Don Quixote but I would rather look for solutions. More coal, gas and nuclear would be nice.
I would like to really know if they actually made any improvements to reducing the self-discharge of batteries due to the small but measurable internal resistances. The reason that batteries need to be topped off. Probably not without some sort of expensive and/or rare material.
Last I knew it was still cheaper to generate electricity on demand rather ran than drawing it from some sort of storage system due to thermodynamic losses, the costs of maintenance, etc.
There is this myth that technology “can do ANYTHING” that is quite broadly embraced,…
But technology CAN’T “do anything” there are real limitations.
As an example: YES, they HAVE developed Jet packs; a backpack you strap on, and FLY!
However, can only hold about 3 minutes fuel.
Thats why we don’t see people flying around everywhere, and probably few reading this have ever actually SEEN a jetpack in person.
Technology can NOT change this limitation, and other than for fun, too few instances where it is practical to use a jet pack.
“Unicorn farts” is the disparaging counter to this notion that “technology can do ANYTHING”, and for many, its a blindness to reality, and an article of faith.
Liquid metal batteries are fire proof made from locally sourced raw materials, and without precious metals and retain 99% of their original capacity over 5,000 charging cycles. Magnesium and antimony liquid electrodes separated by a molten salt electrolyte. LMBC and others are currently selling and installing them. Time will tell.
The problems we have with our electric grid will not be solved by politicians and bureaucRats but by Engineers.
This is true. The batteries (the ones I’m familiar with) were made in China but are going to start being made in Mexico. There is technology that is positive for some of this stuff but the politicians and greedy jerks have made this a mess.
Might get somewhere if they are relatively inexpensive and highly recyclable like lead acid batteries. We’ll see.
every single “battery storage” has one or both of these two fundamental problems, and neither of them have a solution that is viable now or at any time to make a serious difference (meaning they cannot fulfil even short term bandaids). The two fundamental problems are:
I was recently reading about a new type of very dense electrical storage battery *yes, you guessed it also pioneered by china*, and while the battery does appear to hit all the right marks at least on paper, there is no discussion about how to scale up manufacturing, secure the component materials and how to find the NEW ENERGY NEEDED to even begin production.
this administration has been spending like a drunk pirate ….but it’s peanuts compared to the actual cost of making electrical battery storage a reality.
Are we really prepared to spend that much ENERGY (and money) on electrical storage batteries, when clean coal and clean natural gas already exists to accomplish the very same thing?
that’s really what it boils down to.
Look I get it. There WILL BE niche locations and remote areas where electrical battery storage makes sense that fossil fuels just can’t deliver.
but this idea that implementing solar and wind with electrical battery storage on a national scale and eliminate coal and nat gas the existing buffer to base load is pure fantasy. Some states will adopt it. No doubt about it. And we will ridicule them just as with ercot today, leading the way as idiot number 1 with a long list of candidates apparently lined up for their 15 minutes of stupid
That’s one of the problems with wind energy. The wind only blows when you don’t need it.
Wind blows, and wind energy sucks. Got it!
Massachusetts in brilliant, marxist manner, demolished the seventeen hundred megawatt Brayton Point Power Plant in Somerset, because it burned evil coal and oil. Demolished it, seventeen hundred megawatts worth of power because a handful of eco-cranks demanded it.
Prior to that, the eco-nuts claimed condenser discharge water from the plant heated surrounding Mount Hope Bay, which somehow harmed the fish. Funny thing, fish don’t seem to mind warm water. So to appease them, the plant built two six hundred foot tall cooling towers, which didn’t appease the cranks one bit.
Down came the plant, towers and all.
What do they plan to replace those lose megawatts with? Who knows? Wind? Solar? If we say it will work, it will work?
Green energy is a clever ruse the Elites are using to get people to sign their own death warrants.
I’m just east of that area.
Air conditioning isn’t necessary!
Ask any watermelon that doesn’t live in Texas or Arizona.
Watermelon?
Green (environmentalist) on the outside and
Red (communist) on the inside.
So glad I never moved to TX! The entire west coast sucks…for that matter. They’ll be out of water & power sooner than later….due to piss poor management & greed. Hence dried up Lake Mead & Hoover Dam. Sad.
Not So the blades are powered by diesel engines.
CA, OR and WA governors are all about tearing down damns on the Klamath, Snake and Columbia rivers.
Pacts have been made, deals have been signed. All in the name of restoring salmon habitat.
Who cares that almost all of the 10 or so dams in question are hydroelectric power plants.
No plans to replace that energy lost.
But the salmon will be happy.
Of course. Hydro-electric is a near perfect form of solar energy. Reliable and efficient.
It all makes sense in context of their agenda. Depopulation with the rest of the herd, driven into high density urban corridors and public transit.
Yep.
The Indian tribes have paid off the politicians, who will spend billions of tax payer money to do the tear downs, and neither group cares that population centers
will face electricity shortages.
The Tribes get their fisheries back, the politicians get their grift, the demo companies get fat govt contracts.
The taxpayer gets screwed and faces an energy crisis.
Meanwhile in Colorado………………
https://coloradosun.com/2022/01/24/unaweep-canyon-hydro-power-xcel/
These pumped storage plants do not create energy. They only store it, losing about 30% in the process. They are big noisy and expensive. They require two massive reservoirs and dams, flooding pristine canyons in the process.
You see Colorado has a problem with wind energy. The wind primarily blows at night when there is no demand. So at night they paln to use wind generator power to pump water uphill and then reverse the pumps in the daytime to re-generate electricity. Extremely outdated and inefficient.
Texas,. used to be one of our greatest states. Hard to believe the politicians let this green energy destroy the state. Why weren’t Texans fighting this ? It doesn’t take a genius to predict what is happening right now. If people don’t fight, they get this loser system that won’t keep them cool in the summer or warm in the winter. Shame on all of them, shame on every republican in the USA for allowing this to happen.
This is getting effing stupid!
Any reason why Texas isn’t using solar power in the dead heat of summer when there is no wind?
Would have to cover like 90% of the state with solar panels.
Not practical (and not a good idea).
From a fact sheet linked to the ERCOT website:
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is a nonprofit organization that ensures reliable electric service for 90 percent of the state of Texas. The grid operator is regulated by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Legislature.
See that? ERCOT falls under the PUC and the Texas Legislature, not the governor.
I don’t see the point of berating Abbott all the time over matters over which he does not hold authority.
After the big freeze, Dan Patrick was sending the emails. Dan Patrick is Lt. Governor, but more importantly, he is the President of the Texas State Senate. Leave messages for Dan Patrick, your state senator and your state rep if you so desire. The power over ERCOT really is not Greg Abbott’s to usurp.
while that may be true and I have no reasons to dispute it, could we agree that a governor of ANY state would have legitimate constitutionally sound basis to get involved when the safety and security of people in his state are at risk?
last time I checked, the overwhelming majority of governors “got involved” with pandemic health response, along with mandates.
see how this works?
if you lose power and the apparent heat is TRIPLE DIGITS, that means people DIE.
it’s just that simple.
Abbott absolutely has a role.
Asserting it…well, stay tuned.
bet if you into a government building its nice and cool
reminder: you are a useless eater. a tax payer…and non-essential.
covid pandemic policies and mandates reminded everyone who was aware and woke up MILLIONS to the reality that this is exactly HOW YOU ARE VIEWED BY THE CORRUPTORS.
Here is an idea. Put big electric fans or the air conditioners in front of the windmills……..problem solved……or sumpin like that. :-p
If everybody goes outside, between 2-6, and waves whatever large fan type things they have available,
for an hour or so, that might work too.
OR, we could install hamster wheels in every home.
Everybody has a wheel, or a stationary bike, etc.
That is plugged into the grid.
Then….we could have nice things like power.
Authorities there better get desperate and creative. Maybe move in and fire-up some serious green industrial size diesel fans to stir up the air and get those wind turbines generating again.

A few years ago, my older boy teetered between the two…it took 4 hours for him to turn around with the AC set at 65 letting him lick iced water off my finger with fans blowing on him. It is frightening to experience.
It can be a life or death emergency for your best friend…program the vet’s # into your smart phone.
Am not a cat person, but….here is PetMD:

Am not sorting thru 500+ responses so if someone else posted, sorry for redundancy. It is worth a repeat.
I watched this video last week, and even though the guy believes that climate only changes when CO2 levels go up, (thus climate change” he explains very effectively why renewables do not work. This is NOT from a climate change “denier.”
Good ammunition against those who think wind and solar work.
yes and he was severely harassed by his associates…and made a followup “clarifying”.
nevermind all that, he does make solid facts and pulls the curtains down.
pay attention to his view on nuclear.
if you are into ted talks, you might find this one revealing too:
Just hook an electric motor up to each of those windmills to spin the blades when the wind’s not blowing…. that should solve the problem. :/
(Gas-powered would work too, I suppose.)
Abbott and Newsome using same play book? How bout approving new electric plants to be built?
It’s natures fault for only running at ten percent capacity…wasup mother nature!
If only there was a more dependable way to generate electricity. But there clearly isn’t…
Haha!
“Authorities ?” These are the same criminals who caused the deaths of Texans, when there was no heat and people froze to death. Due to….
No wind, no solar.
When you have no accountability or sense of responsibility……………this is what it looks like.
They will continue to cause pain, suffering & death….
God Help Us…….
Thorium salt nukes are the answer:
(LINK) Flibe Energy – Power the World
thorium breeders are interesting..
but, as usual, the subject is fraught with misinformation and controversial claims.
check this out.

Maybe there needs to be some replacements in the energy council, with extreme prejudice.
I recently traveled along I-40 through north Texas. It was sad to see so many windmills and NO oil wells pumping like there used to be. They should have BOTH!
Iowa has been completely blighted by wind turbines. Horrible. That used to be such a pretty state. And whenever I drive in Iowa it seems like half of the turbines are still even if it’s a windy day.
i feel like im insane but how in the world will they power electric vehicles on top of this? is everyone just going to pretend this obvious flaw isnt staring us right in the face?
I’m imagining being told people with odd-numbered addresses can only drive on odd-numbered days, etc.
The consequences of a shortage of electricity is of course something that the Dunderhead-In-Chief, Joe Biden never cares to think about while he continually pushes “Green Energy” , EV’s, and eliminating gas-powered cars. Is his goal also to create US dependency on the ChiComs for the ability to have automobiles in the US , as the ChiComs have a monopoly on the metals necessary for the batteries for EVs? BTW Hunter had a hand in elbowing the US out of that market. Oh, maybe this is all beginning to make sense now? 10%$$$ for “The Big Guy” and China gets a foot up with their goal to crush America. That wouldn’t be a surprise from the Obidens, but the question is, how long does this Crime Syndicate continue to be able to get away with undermining America and willfully and maliciously causing our citizens to suffer?
https://thefederalist.com/2021/11/23/why-was-hunter-biden-part-of-chinas-takeover-of-key-global-metal-supplies/
Well, millions are voting for this…………
Cemetery Voters don’t use electricity …
They tend to like it dark… I’ll show myself out.
81,000,000 votes were recorded as desiring this outcome.
Never get tired of this one:
Horses run frum a falling windsale
“how long does this Crime Syndicate continue to be able to get away with undermining America and willfully and maliciously causing our citizens to suffer?”
One answer: For as long as Mitch continues to approve.
How do you suppose Mitch and his Chinese wife make ends meet??
With lots of communist Chinese money from her communist Chinese father and his communist Chinese shipping industry.
Cut electric consumption ?
Can I ask HOW will we manage to plug MILLIONS of EV’s into the existing electric grid that is unable to handle the load now without those EV’s?
Will the simple minded fools in control now demand that we the unwashed, in addition to spending $60K + for the EV, purchase solar panels and upgrade our electrical service panels to handle the additional amps?
How will cities and local municipalities have the necessary funds to upgrade the existing electrical grid to handle the additional load, when public funds are not sufficient for them to fund current unfunded liabilities of golden pensions for the gov’t class? By taxing the rich?
Time to hit the swimming hole to cool down. Then we’ll all go down in the root cellar where it stays a little cooler. How did they manage it in the days before electricity? A bucket of ice and a fan?
And before air onditioning? When I was a kid, we pulled down the blinds by noon to keep out the heat and ran fans. After sunset we sat out on our porches to cool off.
When I was a kid, there were still windmills on some farms for water wells.
I bought a house built in 1950. (Limestone and it was cool until mid June.) It had 2 110 outlets in the kitchen
Today we have toaster ovens, air fryers, induction burners, and 6 other appliances and need a dozen outlets
And need more A/C to remove heat generated by air fryers for example.
No more A/C when there is no wind.
slept outside some nights – took cold showers
It wasn’t a 107 for 3 months running
50lb block of ice with a fan blowing over it. We would shave off some of it and flavor it with maple syrup.
alGore says Ice? forgetaboutit. planet will boil.
Only 5 years left ! Wait ! That was 3 years ago … so we’re down to 2 years before the earth boils like a crab pot
ohhhhhhhh mommaaaaaaaaaa ….
I know it works , a fan and ice. Also, let in the cool air at night and close everything during the heat of day. Sprinklers on in the yard for the kids and the birds or head for the pool.
Just a short while now, and you can do that again.
In college I never had AC, and I remember during one brutal heatwave I wore my bikini swimsuit to bed and had a wet bath towel on top of me like a blanket, with a fan in the window near my head blowing air over the towel.
kinky
but practical
kinda genius practical, I reckon
Breeze-ways, shade under the trees, small hand held fans.
You’re right, a cool dip in a creek or lake.
Wide brimmed hat, moving a little slower outside.
We have a walk out basement, dug back into the mountain top. Temps range from 58 in the winter and 68 in the summer.☀️
Are they shutting down the cooling systems for their data servers?
When I was a kid, we weren’t pu$$ies.
“How did they manage it in the days before electricity?” We didn’t. The issue is the humidity not just the heat.
Where’s Abbott on all of this? Doing another photo op? Where’s Rick Perry?
Texas has a Bushie problem and they haven’t been totally eradicated even after George P’s loss.
John Cornyn needs sent to the bench like Gary Hogeboom.
Love the reference, Gary Hogeboom the Cowboy QB who never delivered.
Abbott and Cornyn are up for reelection. Could be the Dem plan to get the voters to turn on them in Nov. Might work.
Usually these stunts are done for political ends.
Cronyn is not up
For re-election
Unfortunately…
His liability is lower than Bumbling Biden’s.
Cornyn isn’t up for re-election till 2026. Can anyone tell me how he got 1/2 a million more votes in Texas in 2020 than Trump did? Just not possible.
As for Abbott, he is just a lying POS UniParty libturd. It is not like this issue wasn’t brought to light in Feb. 2021 with the freeze, not to mention Abbott did nothing to reel in the Texas Medical Board going after doctors for treating COVID-19 patients. Abbott gives lip service to the border crisis and does NOTHING to protect Texans. Convince me the Texas primaries weren’t a selection, not an election.
