Tonight marks President Trump’s first visit of the 2024 campaign to Minnesota, as he makes the case that Minnesota could be in play in this fall’s presidential election. Earlier in the day, both President Trump and his wife Melania attended their son Barron’s graduation ceremony, held at Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“We are thrilled to welcome President Trump back to Minnesota to headline our Lincoln Reagan dinner, an annual tradition that reminds us of the roots of our Party and the leaders who have been most impactful in promoting our American values,” GOP Party Chair David Hann said in a statement. “I can think of no one more fitting to join us this year than President Trump.”
No Republican presidential candidate has won the state since 1972, but recent polling from KSTP shows Biden and Trump in a statistical dead heat this cycle, with Biden’s lead over the former president falling within the poll’s margin of error.

I live in Minnesota. Down thread I post my opinions of Minnesota GOP politicians. Despite my thoughts about despicable Uniparty Republicans here, trust me…PLEASE…Minnesota will go Trump. It is not even close. Rural areas are 85-15 Trump. Metro areas are 50-50.

Once I got on our counties Absentee Ballot Board I was with the auditor and at the county courthouse at 8pm when the polls closed.
When the “drop box” was checked for any late arrivals at 8pm I stood and watched as it was unlocked, and as the late ballots were taken out. I also asked to check to make sure there were no ballots “hanging” inside the box, to ensure no one could say there were a bunch of them stuck in the chute.
I was a pain to them, as were those who’d placed their names on the lawsuit against our county.

Saw a local newscaster (black woman) interview five diverse Republicans and they were all voting Trump. The most interesting detail was the newswoman did not seem either surprised or displeased by their responses.

Every county has what is called an Absentee Ballot Board that is supposed to be made up of equal parts Dems and Reps (and in Minnesota some marijuana party, too). The board is supposed to be made up of citizens, not county workers, not paid staff, but of citizens — people who say they agree with one party or another.
In 2020 Hennepin county’s Absentee Ballot Board was made up almost entirely of union workers who were at that time out of work. So union workers, instead of citizens, made up that board, a board created to ensure absentee ballots were held, counted and stored per the law.
And, where citizens are paid a small fee for their work on the board, union workers had to be paid their full union scale wages.
So the citizens of Hennepin county were screwed, big time in many ways.
During precinct caucuses volunteers make out forms saying they want to be election judges or poll watchers, etc. That paperwork is supposed to go to MN GOP, who in turn in supposed to put all those contacts on one form and send it to the SoS’s office. From there the SoS sends each county auditor the names and contact information for the people from that party they must select from for the upcoming election.
In 2020 and 2022 I learned that MN GOP was NOT doing that, which left the county auditors searching for where to find Republicans willing to take those jobs. They don’t have to look very hard, and if they aren’t getting the goods from MN GOP they are then allowed to hire people to do those jobs — party affiliation at that point doesn’t matter.
Since we are still early in trying to make sure ballots are counted/checked/handled correctly in Minnesota, contact your county auditor and tell them you (and all your conservative buddies) are a Republican who would like to work on the Absentee Ballot Board. I believe Hennepin county’s board consists of approximately 120 people (since it includes Minneapolis), so they will need half that number of Republicans — trained in knowing what to do and what to look for — to give us a fighting chance.
When Ventura ran everyone thought it was a joke-until it wasn’t. I pray for my former beautiful home state that your prayer is answered in a similar manner. I do believe that after that election the parties agreed never to let that happen again. Two wings of a mosquito, so to speak.

According to his most accurate reports, 35,000 Trump signs went up in CD7 alone… CD7 by itself had 35000 signs.

My mom-in-law lives in Ottertail County, and although she’s someone who rarely says anything about politics, she attended a ‘meet the candidates’ rally with me in 2018 when the candidates bus tour went through Fergus Falls. She loved it!

There is not any.
Right before the election in 2020 I discovered a cheat that the SoS was allowing the county auditors to make concerning the election. It was something that was done so subtlety, so quietly, that it would be hard to catch — but caught it we did.
When I found it I came here, to the Treehouse, and asked if anyone knew who I could contact to go after this cheat. I was sent to Minnesota Voters Alliance, and with them we sued our county commissioners and auditor. But before the case went to court the auditor changed what they’d been doing and made things right.
And guess what? The 2022 election was the first time in a long, long time that we actually got a Republican elected — and we got 2 Republicans elected. Coincidence? Nope.
BUT! When I first discovered the problem I contacted MN GOP and told them what was going on. I told them I would contact every BPOU chair throughout the state and let them know what was taking place so they could go to their county auditor and make sure they were doing what the law required, not what the SoS was saying needed to be done.
But they never did anything with the information.
We could have straightened out a lot of the cheat BEFORE the 2020 election took place, but instead of contacting the head Republicans of every BPOU, instead of giving them a head’s up concerning what was taking place, MN GOP stayed quiet.
So we have Democrats and Democrats part II in Minnesota, and they work hand-in-hand with one another.

Each state’s election laws are different, but hopefully there will be something in here that might help someone else.
Minnesota county auditor’s are in charge of running elections. Each county auditor must create what is called an Absentee Ballot Board (ABB), a board made up of equal parts DFL and GOP citizens — not paid staff, not paid outsiders.
The ABB is responsible to ensuring all absentee ballots, all military ballots, all mail-in ballots are from people who are eligible to vote; who have done everything right within their paperwork and getting signatures from witnesses saying they are who they say they are in order to vote. The ABB members open ballots, enter them in the system, scan them, sign each one (one dem one rep), hand count them, then seal them and put them in a locked room.
The ABB makes sure all ballots that are dropped off at any location are legal.
Before 2020 our county never, ever had an ABB. Before 2020 our county always used paid staff — all of whom are dems — to handle ballots. They said they “didn’t know” that the law said citizens “must” be used, and, if enough of one party cannot be found then the auditor “may” use paid staff. Instead the auditor was always using paid staff, and never even tried to put an ABB together.
Now we have an ABB for every election, and we won two seats since then.
But there are a lot of counties throughout Minnesota, and I doubt the citizens all know about this law or if their auditor is following it or not.
Laws are usually dry and boring reading. But if you can find your state’s laws concerning elections and read them, you may find something “simple” that has been passed over to the detriment of the people.
Hopefully some of that makes sense!
