The people closest to the situation including France and Germany, are not asking for the U.S. to get involved. Indeed, you can make the argument based on their public statements, that European NATO countries are not that concerned. Even Chuck Todd (NBC) sees this.
It is the Obama-Biden foreign policy team that is creating anxiety over the potential for Russia to enter Ukraine, not our NATO allies. If we end up in a conflict in Ukraine, it will be because the professional political class in Washington DC want us to be in a conflict in Ukraine, not the American people.

China does not want its own plans jeopardised by Russia’s preoccupation with military battles. I think both China and Russia (and most other eastern countries) are invested in the Belt and Road project. They all want to see the huge land mass that is Eurasia connected for trading. Also, any armed conflict between Russia and the US would not remain between our 2 countries for long – it would spread all over the world. I do not think anybody wants that.

The author does not write it but to me it seems quite obvious that once (if or when) the US and the UK back off then Germany and France will take the chance to increase their ties to Russia, and conversely NATO will be much weakened. I have a friend in Ukraine who has been trying to become an American citizen for years.
She came here in the 1990s as a college student to study our banking system and saw how even the lowliest worker at McDonald’s made more money than she would as a banker in Ukraine. She made more money being an intern in the U.S. than anyone in her family was making back home.
The summer she was here I talked her into starting her own business once she got home. She said that was something that was never done — that no one owned their own business — but I kept pushing her, saying all she had to do was find a need many people had that wasn’t being met and, even if she had to barter for her services, she could start her own business.
After a few years I learned she was making a good deal of money through her business, enough to come to the U.S. every couple months and vacation here for months at a time.
I’ve met her for lunch over the years, and every time we meet she has a different American boyfriend. She is desperate to get herself and her family out of Ukraine, and it seems to me she is hoping one of these “boyfriends” will be her ticket out.
The thing she wants the most is to get far, far away from Russia.
She absolutely hates Russia and the thought of them ruling her country — again.

Russia isn’t going to invade Ukraine. Putin isn’t stupid, he knows Russia will go broke in less than 2 years if it invades Ukraine.
With a GDP not much bigger than Spain or Australia, it’a one thing for Russia to maintain a large standing army plus lots of nukes, and another to go to actual war where cash is burned up at great rates. RUSSIA CANNOT AFFORD TO INVADE UKRAINE.
All NATO has to do is supply arms, logistics and intelligence to Ukrainians and a war there would last many years. It would be another Afghanistan for Russia.

The Biden administration is pushing for a major “Wag the Dog” operation to distract from its avalanche of failures.
You folks might like to know what’s going on under the hood so to speak. Try analysing this from a top level perspective.
Unlike the military in the West, that has spent most of the last 30 years optimising itself and its supply chain to fight 3rd rate foes, Russia has been working first to defend itself and then to fight back against peer foes and has done so well that the US military is very worried about some of their new weapons.
Regardless of your views on Putin and Russia, Putin is no fool, he has been in power for a long time and must now be looking at his place in history. He has repeatedly told his people, who really don’t want to get involved in Ukraine and who are the ones that actually matter, that Russia will only go into Ukraine if Donbas is attacked. It is therefore highly likely that all the current Russian moves around Ukraine are to make it totally clear to US/NATO that there will be a very hard response in the event of Kiev doing something stupid.
Little reported so far are what they are doing to try to keep the US honest. Bear in mind that to be a threat it has to be real. First, they have ramped up their forces near Donbas, as the did in a similar situation last Spring, to show Kiev that their destruction is a given. Second, they are building up for massive and I use the word intentionally, extra troop moves into Belarus from 1000’s of miles away from Siberia and the Far East. Third, major exercises at sea around the World with 140 ships, including live fire off Ireland. These actions put war ready troops to the west and east flanks of NATO. I would lay money that, unseen by us but visible to those who matter, other deployments are underway off the USA, probably mainly conventional warhead cruise missile armed subs.
You might be asking yourself ‘Why now?’ What links if any are there to past events that had a similar kind of US involvement aimed at Russia when Putin and company were otherwise occupied? How about the attacks in Georgia, Olympics 2008, and the revolution in Ukraine, (Russian) Olympics 2014?
So what do we have next month? Yup, the Olympics in Beijing with Putin occupied signing major deals with US enemy Xi.
Do you think that, with the remarkable co-incidence of Ukraine going hot, they are going to be caught like that again? Not a bat in hell’s chance. This time they have made it clear to anyone with eyes, that they are ready to respond should the US, NATO or Kiev do anything stupid like a False Flag or actual attack.
