(h/t No9 Coal) This is specifically the #1 precursor, for all the reasons previously mentioned.

Do not be alarmed; be prudent.
What are you seeing in your area?
Feel free to note in the comments section what is happening in your area. Hopefully, most of us are much better positioned than the average person who has not been following this as closely over the past several months.
Initial food instability signs in the supply chain. Things to look for:
(1) A shortage of processed potatoes (frozen specifically).
1.a And/Or a shortage of the ancillary products that are derivatives of, or normally include, potatoes.
(2) A larger than usual footprint of turkey/ham in the supermarket (last lines of protein).
(3) A noticeable increase in the price of citrus products.
(4) A sparse distribution of foodstuffs that rely on flavorings (sports drinks).
(5) The absence of non-seasonal products.
(6) Little to no price difference on the organic comparable (diff supply chain)
(7) Unusual country of origin for fresh product type.
(8) Absence of large container products
(9) Shortage of any ordinary but specific grain derivative item (ex. wheat crackers)
(10) Big brand shortage.
(11) Shortage of wet pet foods
(12) Shortage of complex blended products with multiple ingredients (soups etc)
(13) A consistent shortage of milk products and/or ancillaries.
These notes above are all precursors that show significant stress in the supply chain. Once these issues are consistently visible, we will likely continue toward food instability very quickly, sector by sector, category by category.
The reason I list the shortage of potatoes as the #1 precursor is because every food outlet sells a potato in some form. Every supermarket and every single restaurant (fancy, sit down or fast food) sells some form of potato. Potatoes are demanded by every single food outlet; therefore, a shortage of potatoes is the first noticeable issue.

Dallss. My Mexican grocery store was well stocked with essentials, including fresh produce. Whole Foods, Albertsons, Tom Thumb (Safeway) not so much.
if you count the Fiesta chain, this has changed.
Fiesta is missing pork and Or-Ida brand potatoes.
There are lots of other frozen potato brands I’ve never seen before. Fresh produce, in particular citrus, is spotty/low quality if it is there at all.
No. My Fiesta was poorly stocked. El Rancho was very well stocked. I now shop there when I need basics. Fiesta has gone downhill. Earlier this week Fiesta produce section was almost empty shelves. Pathetic. El Rancho was just the opposite. Fully stocked and decent looking quality of fresh produce. Fiesta used to be decent. No longer.

Dallas based chain has won my loyalty (for certain items).
If you happen to come across McCain’s, it’s out of Canada and quite good!
Santa Barbara, here. Went shopping this morning. Store seemed pretty well stocked. They’ve been out of some store brand products that I favor like diced green chilies for about two weeks. I didn’t think to look at the frozen potato products but fresh potatoes were well in supply. Tons of meat but no beef kielbasa which I’ve been looking for for 2.5 wks. Prices were noticeably higher. Like store brand pasta which used to be 1.50 each was today at 3.49 for 16 oz. Also, regarding the pasta, lots of bare shelving area- very limited on brands.
Thank you Sundance and CTH for all you do.
Here in South Central Indiana, at Menards and Rural King, shelves are almost empty where pet food usually is stocked.
North-central Indiana at the Petco just minutes ago.
Well stocked. Prices up slightly.
Apparently they didn’t get the same memo.
PetSmart had a better choice than any of the grocery stores but the shelves were far from full.
Try Pet Supplies Plus! There are stores around Indianapolis. We have them in WNY. With Tues & Thurs deliveries, they’re well-stocked in wet food. They will set some aside for pickup!
SF Bay Area, haven’t noticed shortages in my local grocery store, but I’m off today to stock up on some staples. Yesterday, though, I needed to to to the feed store to buy grain and shavings for bedding for the horses. No shavings! For three weeks now they tell me. I ended up having to drive another 15 miles out to a really rural feed store where I was able to buy them for $4 more per bale, ($10 vs $6) and he also told me that pine shavings are in really short supply with no explanation. On the bright side, the first store did have Ivemectin in stock!
Did the store sell Ivemectin without a prescription? Do you remember the name of the city, and the name of the store? Thanks.
Any Tractor Supply. Any Feed Store. They all carry ivermectin for animals. People make fun of that, but it’s the same stuff and many doctors will argue the point. I do not care. IMHO, if the government restricts life saving medication that should be over the counter, people have to get creative. Buy some horse paste or the liquid form. You must adjust for your body weight. One tube of horse paste is for a 1250lb animal. Adjust for your weight – usually 1/6th of the tube. Animals will die if they aren’t de-wormed on a schedule, so there’s plenty out there for the animals. If you’re too scared to go the animal route, as many people are, then find a doctor and pharmacy who will prescribe it. I know many, many, people who are using the animal stuff. Up to you.
Thanks. Where I live, no drug stores carry ivermectin, so I’ll check out the Tractor Supply and feed stores.
And thanks for the reminder to use less because I weigh less.
Check out FLCCC list of pharmacies that supply ivermectin but I am sure you would need a prescription. However, new provider pharmacies are added and you may be surprised to find one in your state. Many pharmacies will mail your prescription to you from out of state.
A nurse I know who dosed her family with horse Ivermectin said that the dose is just half a thumb nail size bit of the paste.
Go to barnhardt.biz. She has lots of information how to dose. My daughter’s cat takes phenobarbital for epilepsy. Phenobarbital is phenobarbital no matter how you slice it. Same with ivermectin. People can make fun of using “horse” medicine all they want but bottom line, it works. According to AB, ranchers have been safely using it for their families for years.
There is one kind of paste you shouldn’t get. Do not get any of those “Plus” or “Gold” brands . They actually contain an additional drug for livestock that kills liver flukes.
You neither want nor need that. And it’s way more expensive. Just get the simple 1% livestock injectable solution. You don’t have liver flukes.
I use Tractor Supply for ivermectin for my dogs. Exercise caution for human consumption and ask what the carrier is. They can add some nasty stuff into the carrier like heavy metals.
Why would they put heavy metals in something that you give to animals?
Suspicious cat about your comment. Doubt people would give “heavy metals” to their horses. Around here they consider horses more valuable than wives.
I give my horses Durvet brand. Made in the USA and millions of doses have been safely given to horses since 1981. There are some versions available for sale that include other additional drugs to target other parasites that Ivermectin doesn’t eradicate successfully. I have never purchased those for my horses, typically horse owners “rotate” different worming medicines to target different parasites, but Ivermectin is still the King. As a horse owner, I try to buy a couple of tubes whenever I see them available since they have a long shelf life. As others have said, people purchasing Ivermectin for “off label” use have made it harder to find for those of us who need it for our stock. Keeping a small supply on hand means I don’t have to worry about not being able to purchase it when they need a dose.
Been on it for 7 months once a week (with 10,000 units of D3 and 1000mg of C, Zinc and Quercetin.) Never healthier.
Also, gargle with listerine and rim inside of each nostril with povidone 1% iodine solution every time I go out or return from crowds.
Where do you get povidone?
A friend of mine — 36 y/o male — exhibited all the signs of Covid. He didn’t want to take the Ivermectin horse paste, Quercitin, Zinc, Vit. C and D that I brought to him. Eventually he gave in. Even though his first dosing was 16 hours after his first symptoms, he was amazed that the next day he felt much better. He called me and said, “I feel GREAT!”
Of course, it helped that he’s young and healthy otherwise. Now he’s passing out dabs of horse paste to his sick friends from his one tube. Our Tractor Supply is all out (SE AZ).
Have a friend very sick with the schmovid. Doc gave him prednisone and antibiotics. Steroids are great for inflammation. Antibiotics only work on bacterial infections not viral, but at least he got them. He finally agreed to start the horse paste. I’m anxious to see the results. They’re doing the vitamins, etc., because they were prepared.
Vitamin D did not stop me from getting delta but I feel fantastic now 5 weeks out, and I think it has helped keep me from long CoupVID.
I recently added VitD and I feel hale and hearty!
I ordered multiple tubes from Big Dee’s Tack & Vet. They were out of injectible when I ordered.
I got my ivermectin at the feed store. $7.59 per package. And it’s apple flavored, too.
Another source is alldaychemist.com site. Takes about a month to receive. Twice have ordered 200 6mg Ivermectin tablets. Price including shipping was 200.00 each time, no script.
Sundance, I was thinking about you on my last trip to GA Publix Monday night as I walked by the freezer case full of hams and the next full of turkeys and duck. Finally saw the empty potato freezer and smiled. Asked employees, they were so shorthanded that they couldn’t keep up with re-stocking. Too many called out sick. Costco was fine. We’ll see how things look after covid calms down. OSHA getting kicked probably helps entice workers to rejoin labor market.
Seeing the same in the suburbs of Houston. Found pork bellies for the first time ever at one large chain. Thanks Hillary! Gonna smoke them today & make some bacon candy!
Love pork belly! Wildfork do pork belly steaks which are delic!
“OSHA getting kicked probably helps entice workers to rejoin labor market.”
Not if sleepy Hoe has a say in it. The White House has already bullied businesses to ignore the Supreme Court ruling.
Yes but the responses to bullying are beginning to change slowly too, basically to FJB.
It’s like turning the Titanic around…
Shopped at Aldi yesterday in Sebring, Fl. They had no baking potatoes. Plenty of red and yellow potatoes though.
Shopped at Aldi in Southwestern MI and no fresh onions.
Buy them and chop and freeze when you find some.
Re: Item 2 above – in Southern California I’ve noticed a lot of frozen turkeys still in the freezer cases at non-clearance prices, which is unusual after January 1.
Re: Item 7 above – I was in Sam’s Club purchasing bananas, and noticed that two displays had bananas that looked very different in terms of color and size. Turns out one display was completely from Costa Rica and another was from Guatemala. It was weird that they wouldn’t all be from the same source.
#2, I found a trail of turkey footprints leading to the back room at the supermarket.
That reminds me… I shot my first turkey a week before last Thanksgiving Day. It weighed 18 pounds!
The only problem is that I’m no longer allowed in the frozen foods section at Walmart!
Wings up! Don’t shoot!
LOL!
Potato, who’s hiding the potato?
There’s a potato(e) blight in Prince Edward Island (Canada). It seems relatively minor, but no Canadian potato(e)s have been shipped out of Canada to the USA since around November 2021. But don’t worry, Captain Biden is getting right on it.
“On Nov. 22, the United States Department of Agriculture instructed their border services to reject any shipment of seed, table and processing potatoes from P.E.I. …. While the (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) is currently redoubling their efforts to gather the requested information in order to reassure the United States, they cannot certify P.E.I. potatoes as they do not meet U.S. requirements in accordance with the plant protection regulations,”
Sounds like an artificially created situation. I have seen it happen with other Canadian products like beef, grain, pork, timber, etc. Some obscure disease is mysteriously discovered and all hell breaks loose in the media who then gets to call the shots with government overreaction.
Pelosi says “We’re just trying to help people who have trouble making choices. First, only one kind of frozen potatoes, then, only one political party.”
There’s a reason for the new wall around the White House. They KNOW there’s about to be a very disgruntled populace.
Defensive walls work well during Martial Law.
East TN – We have been seeing shortages in stores for over a year and not just with toilet paper. Some of it is hoarding, some of it is supply chain related. Bread lines are real – bread stocks have been way down for months. Frozen potatoes are a problem. Milk stocks well down. Store brands replacing name brands is frequent. Everything is spotty. We will see full stores for a week, then see half empty for a week.
Restaurants are closing days of the week they were formerly open. Some blame lack of workers, but it is clear that some of the time it is because of a lack of food supply.
I’ve been shopping at the restaurant supplier store.
Regular Grocery frozen food is sparse.
Frozen Potatoes have been mainly empty for a couple of weeks.
I’m shopping near RTP/Durham in NC.
Sams price per bag of dehydrated milk has gone up $2 each since Dec.
Grocery stores thinner than usual, mainly price issues, have been walking away from items but can’t do that indefinitely. What we do buy is all way up in price.
Alternative food supply for people and pets would be online sources. HelloFresh is pretty decent if you don’t mind doing some prep and cooking. Their are others and Pet food also. Just an option for us all as Supplylines are destroyed by the DemoShevicks. Holomodor
Fully stock where I’m at….and no one is in a Chinese Fauci bioweapon panic…
Jeff, where are you located?
He’s right above you.
JD quite the comedian today:)
Silicon Valley South end.. There have some bare spaces on the shelves.. Especially dairy, eggs but there is always some choice available.. Have not noticed frozen food issues ( but I don’t go down that isle often enough to really notice). Of course beef is outrageous ( 18$ for two lbs stew beef this week). Chicken is getting expensive also, 9$/lb chicken thighs. Fruit/veg still available.
Shopped at Dierbergs in St. Louis, MO. No shortage of potatoes but the meat section was sparse.
Bought another 80lbs of dog food for Baby El and his brother this week. Not worried about my food, more worried about them eating my food.
I’d be more worried about mine eating me.
LOL. Mine will just go eat all the chickens.
South Jersey Wegmans and Trader Joe’s were out of potato’s, corn, bananas, various types of lettuce and other green vegetables and it seems like some of the grains and grain based products are hit or miss lately. On Monday it was so bad you had multiple people taking photos of the empty shelves.
At least your in SJersey. NJersey going to get really bad really fast. Hope your far off the pike or pkwy exits.
Northeast Ohio. No noticeable shortages. Shelves are not empty although some items are sold out and i must wait a few days and it is back on the shelf. No shortage of store brand items but I do not buy that sort. Guess others don’t either since there is so much of it. Grocery chains don’t seem to have as much products available as the small mom no pops. Yes we still have a few of those here. The only complaint the smaller store managers have is that they put orders in for particular brands and get the brands they do not ask for. The local Walmart is still packed to the gills in fresh and frozen meats, dairy, bread, fresh produce, fruit, etc. So here anyway…so far…no noticeable issues at all.
I’m not good about History but is there any correlation between global inflation/food shortages and wars? Like starting wars to deflect from inflation?
Yep, wag the dog time!
And when we get our ass kicked with the help of Cpl Klinger that will really improve their ratings.
SMH
I can easily believe they’d do that although, as I’ve said many times, CHINA is THE enemy.
The revolt that recently happened in Kazakhstan conveniently allowed both Russia and China to increase their control there, so I’ll bet that was something they caused. I was thinking that myself and the fact that the US has said this about Ukraine leads me to believe that is officially believed, too.
China’s military flights against Taiwan is another clue of pending conflict. If there is a US involvement in a conflict in the Ukraine, China could move against Taiwan to give us a two front conflict when based upon the Afghanistan fiasco, we can’t even handle a withdrawal properly.
China is not even close to having the insanely sophisticated chip manufacturing tech in Taiwan which produces 90% of the world’s most advanced chips and they want that. Since THAT is what they are after, the US Army War College just put out a report that says those plants should be destroyed by Taiwan if China invades. Although not said, US cruise missiles could easily do the same thing. Mentioning this strategy as a possibility is meant to deter China. We would hopefully destroy what they’re after.
And, BTW, why in the hell is anyone in the world attending the Chicom Winter Olympics? That just goes to show how Chicom MONEY OWNS Western corporations and banks which, in turn, own Western governments.
The Soviet Union was always doomed to fail because of their economic system. China is creeping tyranny on capitalist steroids.
At Costco yesterday in Carson city, Nevada and lots of everything. Usually spend $300 but yesterday i spent $500. Prime steaks at $20 a pound.
Central New York:
Last night, I went shopping at Wegmans, focusing on household items such as cleaning supplies, trash and storage bags, etc.
While there were plenty of sandwich bags, the freezer bags had been pretty much cleaned out.
I managed to get the last two boxes of quart-sized bags.
NC: big gaps on the shelves at Aldi’s, no chicken, no bottled water yesterday. This morning they had some but not much chicken, one pallet of bottled spring water, one of filtered water, no gallon jugs.
Walmart: prepackaged deli meat area was stripped. Didn’t look around for empty shelves.
you guys are under a bad weather forecast they are talking about in s Indiana so I wouldn’t expect to find milk or bread until spring 🙂
I hope Ad Rem doesn’t mind my posting this very short funny – it’s famous in New England:
I’m in NC also. We’ll see how things are after the storm this weekend. Fingers crossed.
From southeast Pennsylvania: Hash browns at Wawa’s (a local convenience store chain) have not only been absent for weeks, they even took away the stand in which they put the hash browns in.
Redner’s (local supermarket) was pretty thin in the way of bread.
Shoprite in northern DE rarely has meat ends for sale, the clientele (mainly working class and below) are obviously snarfing them up as soon as they’re put out.
Field report from just outside the swamp- we have Martins, Wally World Smart Shopper ( a grocery outlet- soon out of date along w/ weird flavor or just not popular stuff) & various small discount groceries.
Most places are stocked just not as full, less mark downs ( mom of 3 young male sons, so i search for mark downs) & odd empty spots. All products prices are creeping up. Food is still here but i hear on the local radio that further in, the swamp is experiencing a lot of shortages as Sundance noted.
My advice, FWIW-prudently stock up, est a pantry area in your home (if you don’t have one already) & stock it w/ basics- canned citrus & other fruits, chicken, tuna, pb, veg & soup. Pantry basics: flour, sugar, tea, coffee, yeast. If you can tolerate the high salt content instant foods- Hamburger helper, dry soup mixes, etc or do your own pasta/ rice/ barley etc w/ herb & seasonings. Store your food to keep it fresh (glass jars) & mark the exp date. Rotate through this stuff so you use it up. A years worth is your goal.
Everyone should figure out how to grow greens. Basic trays, dirt & seeds. The clear plastic storage boxes make good mini greenhouses. Success w/ plants is really about watching them- don’t leave them out in too much sun ( open the lid to vent) or in the cold ( move inside overnight & out again in the am), watering as needed & move them to the light ( rotate both sides towards to sun to get strong growth).
You can also read up on foraging for greens in your area- make sure the area hadn’t been sprayed w/ weed killer. Plan your survival mode- practice eating just what’s in the house! You’ll know right away what else you need & what can be eliminated.
EXCELLENT ADVICE!
The Vendors that have a history of paying their suppliers ‘promptly’ will get product first and the most product….The Vendors that have a ‘poor’ history of payment will be lucky to survive….My guess is Democrat run businesses will be lucky to survive….So there could be a positive out of this….
That would make a ton of sense. WinCo is employee owned so they have a stake in the store’s performance. If the bills aren’t getting paid, that could slow down deliveries.
True also of Market Basket in New England. They have survived quite a few challenges and are the most nimble.
Denying the forces of the free market is like trying to deny gravity – it always operates, one way or another.
Also at Shoprite Cottage Cheese is in short supply.
Tucson, AZ: Both Safeway and Trader Joes have noticeably less brands available, and lower stock in almost every category, including produce, meats, basics like peanut butter, beans, oil, etc. Prices are jumping: bought canned salmon a few weeks ago for $3.69; now $5.69/can.
Very unsettling to go shopping early in the day and discover that you get the last one of a certain item and to see such sparse stocking of shelves. Everyone shopping looks unhappy.
I never thought I would do this, but I just recently purchased a 4-week emergency food supply from mypatriotsupplyy.com. There was a discount code at the time (posted by Posobiec), so maybe keep an eye out for coupons. The product itself is from readyhour.com. 25-year shelf life. I think I’ll order some ration bars as well as they would be good to keep in the car. I pray I’ll never need any of it.
sorry, that’s mypatriotsupply.com.
Ensure you will have 7.5 gallons of good water for preparation of your 4 week supply.
YES!
We keep a one-year supply of emergency food on hand.
Bought it through MidwayUSA.com a few years ago.
The biggest cost involved with such orders is shipping.
It’s cheaper to avoid their sales on emergency food and wait until they offer free shipping.
You save more if you pay at full price and get free shipping than if you buy it on sale and pay for shipping.
Also, pay close attention to the serving sizes, because they vary from one manufacturer to the next.
You really have to read the details closely to ensure your getting exactly what you think you’re getting.
I ordered a 6 month supply in 2016 which came in totes; have barely used any of it, then bought another 6 month supply last summer, which came in buckets. We buy mostly fresh now. Kids are gone, so we won’t starve. Also gradually building our stock of beans and canned meats from Costco. Got plenty of rice, and if we ever want fries, we’ll cut and pan fry fresh potatoes.
Hey Duke, nice to see a panoramic view of my home town in your avatar. I also have a 6 month supply of My Patriot Supply, plus plenty of rice and home grown foods. I’m on 10 acres in Northern Maryland in a rural area and plan on a nice garden this year.
OKC – There are gaps of empty space at WalMart, but Sam’s is stocked up pretty well. However, even Sams will have an abundance of one brand of water and none of another. Everything has gone up, though, and far past the 7% inflation that the newsheads would have us believe.
The smoked brisket that I usually buy at $17/2lbs. is now $26/2lbs.; that’s not 7% !! Also, the brisket is not very well trimmed.
Where is this?
Oklahoma City.
Short supply of potatoes and milk in our neck of the woods in northern Virginia.
Glad to hear there are other treepers in the DMV!
The shortage I noticed locally (SE Michigan) today was any kind of frozen potatoes. Shelves were almost bare. I’ve been to two different stores three different times and finally found one single bag of egg noodles.
Lower Arkansas odd things are short but local grocery still has almost everything.. Heavy cream has been hard to find, chicken through the roof, bacon outrageous. Pork is still reasonable. Haven’t looked at frozen potatoes because we don’t eat those. Fresh food is in good supply
Bacon was missing last year briefly. When it returned, it was OUTRAGEOUS!
Houston here. 95% normal is the call. Fresca soda has disappeared from the shelves. Lay’s Lightly Salted chips are very difficult to find. I have been able to live through the hardship.
Masks are in no short employ but not necessary.
Fresca disappeared from NE TN back in August for me. Bummer…its’ my favorite.
Went to Publix in Aventura FL yesterday. Beef and chicken shelves almost empty. No half and half. Scarce milk. canned tuna scarce, All toilet paper and Bounty towels completely empty. 10 can limit on fancy feast cat food. Small selection. Prices shooting up on everything. Coffee up a dollar. The bag of potato chips I get up 50cents. Milk higher every time I buy. Cereal same. Pretty soon it will be 40 bucks for a package of nine rolls of TP.
I like the phrase “Life Happens For Us not To Us” Tony Robbins
For me I just look at all of this as just another reason to go in deeper on my body and cut out the stuff that it turns out I didn’t really need anyway.
About 4 years ago as an actor I wanted to take a riding class just in case a role came up for which I needed to know how to ride but in order to do so I needed to loose weight. So I did.
4 years later I’m incredibly glad I did that since according to cdc being overweight is one of the comorbidities for covid.
I also had been working in the medical and that came to an at the end of September since I refused the vaxx.
That being said this has made me take an even more serious look at how I treat my body, what am I eating how do I build my Immune system, how do I keep my body running even more efficiently and cleaner.
Alot of the stuff that may be missing from those shelves will do a body good to not be going in.
Sugar lowers the immune system. Those Red Bukks have 51 grams of sugar. Think about all the chemicals in all that stuff too.
Go watch the movie “FAT FICTION” it’s on youtube. I was so surprised what I didn’t know.
Quite honestly my grocery bill has been tremendously by doing something called the ER Shred and I feel a lot healthier having cut out breads, pastas, pastries, sweets, and vegetables at least for the short time.
We Eliminate and Reset what foods we eat and eliminate which ones are causing issues with our body and we didn’t even realize it. No calorie counting which I Love, and Grass Fed and finished meats, butter, bacon, eggs, and protein.
This is a very simplistic overview but it’s just to start.
I go on actor pages on fb and as they complain that SAG isn’t doing enough to protect them I ask, “What are you doing to build your immune system? ” I usually hear crickets back.
Now I will ask the same here, “What are you doing to build your immune system?”
The left pushes for a Green Planet but I am not hearing is anyone saying they want a Green Body, one that’s clean and running smoothly.
We have 1% of our farming in this country that is actually organic, in most states farmers are permitted to spray chemicals and pesticides on their crops.
Think about this, if it’s not on the shelves do you really need it or was it something you bought just out of habit?
For those making their own pastas it’s probably a lot healthier than what was on the shelves. I’ve had to throw all of mine out because it just no longer tasted good to me.
This is just one other perspective to whole thing. I actually think all if this is going to backfire on the Biden admin. From what I saw elsewhere, China is about to close some larger ports because of the rona. If more goods were manufactured here them closing down their ports would have no effect on us.
Just my opinion that’s all.
Horse riding is so good for you in so many ways. Kudos to you for learning. I am an oldish woman but I still ride the hell bitch even th0ugh I know she’s going to give me a couple of nice crow hops. It is a challenge and it uses muscles that you don’t use in other sports.
My 18yo niece got into horseback riding (English) a few yrs ago. Now in college, she works at a horse farm adjacent to the campus where she csn ride as well. I hope she develops a life-long love of riding, following in the footsteps of her equestrian late great aunt. My aunt lived to be 95, and kept quite fit until virtually the end of her life. My niece is a fit and petite young lady!
You’re on the right track. Getting back to food basics and cutting out the processed foods has done wonders for my health. Now, my goal is to grow it all myself, and if I can’t, partner with neighbors (farmers and ranchers). My taste for processed foods is gone.
Kudos to you!
Once I got over the sheer terror of this pandemic, I decided the best course of action was, like you, to build my immune system. That has been my ethos ever since.
For me, that meant taking a teaspoon of local raw honey each day, and exposing myself to as many microbes as possible. I have cats, garden, and go out as much as possible sans mask. I even HUG people!
Thankfully, I am under 60yo and have no co-morbidities. I could certainly be in better physical shape, and eat better. Yet despite all that, I am STILL HERE after 2yrs of this COVID craziness, UNVAXXED and unafraid.
Have been unable to find Tuffy pads anywhere, the plastic ones used to scrub dirty dishes for over 2 months.
Vancouver WA.
Not looking for outages, but yesterday found no EGGO waffles (any or variant) in the frozen food area of a local Safeway. It was totally wiped out.
Trader Joe’s is also limiting to 3 the number of Frozen Orange Chicken packages a person can buy when available. Daily alotments are all sold out early in the morning, I’ve been told. Showing up after work, their frozen food aisles are decimated.
Had the Costco Pharmacy call me back on a prescription refill request. My blood pressure medication was on back order. Had to call my PCP and get another type prescribed.
Medications is a great concern. I’ve been reading some books to see if I can fast forward my knowledge on medicinal plants.
Reminder…. Food storage supplies like vacuum seal bags, freezer bags, canning jars etc become scarce as more people shift into famine mode thinking. Get moving on what you need and be creative…
I have been going to an out of the way hardware store every few weeks and purchasing a few cases of canning jars at a time without wiping them out. I have this list for if S really HTF – things I realize we’re all going to need and am slowly getting them as the budget allows. I don’t put it past the Brandon Administration to either start WWIII or just completely cut off our electricity.

Remember, we have to look at this in the way a cancer spreads nationally.
The key areas to watch closely are the densely populated regions and large metropolitian areas. The shortages that show up there will spread over time. The area with the strongest demand (larger population) is the area where you first see the supply issues surface.
The less populated areas which are lesser affected, should keep an eye on the regions where the population is dense. The shortages will spread in a pattern that directly resembles the population pattern.
Rural areas typically see folks relatively well prepared , in general.
Weather conditions can often necessitate keeping a supply of goods at hand.
As shelves are emptied in larger areas, I would expect people to drive out to the more suburban/rural areas to shop.
Noticeably less red meat at last Sunday’s weekly grocery shopping in Sterling Virginia’s Wegman’s store.
Glad to see there are other treepers in the DMV! Reston here

Re “(2) A larger than usual footprint of turkey/ham in the supermarket (last lines of protein).”
I notice there’s no shortage of turkeys in the White House lately either…
I follow a KETO Diet. Liked to buy my veggies frozen but they our no longer available, had to switch back to fresh veggies which is plentiful. My freezer is full of ground turkey but now buying hams as replacement. Picked up a full ham at Kroger yesterday for $12.00.
You can freeze the fresh veg
Western WA- seeing more completely empty shelf sections at Winco and Fred Meyer. Specific cracker types out of stock for weeks. The stores can’t get certain types of rice like jasmine. Can’t find items like Pimentos and far and few between on snap peas. All things that you normally could find easily. Thanks so much Sundance for the great and helpful information – and heads up!
I know many restaurants are having supply chain and staffing problems, but what about schools? With the frequent and random school closings, is excess food piling up/being wasted there?
