INDIA – A Bangladeshi blogger was hacked to death in Dhaka on Monday, the second such attack on a critic of religious fundamentalism in the mainly Muslim country in less than two months.

Three knife-wielding attackers set upon 27-year-old Washiqur Rahman near his home on Monday morning, weeks after the murder of an American atheist blogger in Dhaka triggered international outrage.

Police said they had arrested two suspects at the scene and retrieved three knives, but a third escaped.  Deputy commissioner Wahidul Islam said Rahman had been “brutally hacked to death”.

“They hacked him in his head and neck with big knives and once he fell on the ground they then hacked his body,” he said. (more…)

Essentially by sending the HHS appeal back to the lower court SCOTUS is saying we’ve already ruled on this matter with Hobby Lobby and the religious exemption is already upheld. The HHS injunction against the Roman Catholic University is null.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday threw out an appeals court decision that went against the University of Notre Dame over its religious objections to the Obamacare health law’s contraception requirement.

The justices asked the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider its decision in favor of the Obama administration in light of the June 2014 Supreme Court ruling that allowed closely held corporations to seek exemptions from the provision. (more…)

AFTER reading your 20 minute Harf-like highly nuanced pontifications, I was left with only one resounding and reoccurring thought – that I would respectfully like to bring to your attention…

Most of the media seem to be avoiding another example of an Islam-based attack in Detroit Michigan. According to local police and media reports a self identified Muslim, named Terrence Lavaron Thomas, walked up to some “random folks” at a bus station outside of Detroit and asked “are you Muslim”?
When the two people said they were not, Thomas took out a knife and attacked. According to the Washington Post he stabbed two people, both in their 50’s. One person was stabbed five times, the other was stabbed in the hand trying to protect the first victim.
Both victims were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries where they were treated and released. The case was then shared with federal law enforcement who are evaluating the attack as a potential religion based hate crime.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — A violent sex offender is now facing charges after police say he exposed himself in a church soup kitchen.
Willie Edwards is listed as a violent sex offender on the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry for offenses dating back to 1989.
Edwards was working in the kitchen at St. John’s United Methodist Church when he exposed himself to a female worker January 27.
Edwards is charged with violation of community supervision for life.

Three 14-year-old boys fell through the ice on Martin Luther King Day.
When rescuers arrived, one was almost out of the water, another was holding onto the ice and one couldn’t be found.
Eighth grader John Smith is doing something doctors never believed would be possible.
“I don’t remember much about it to be honest, but I do remember the tubes,” says Smith.
He is walking and talking, here with his pastor Jason Noble by his side. And trying to make sense of how he’s not just alive, but thriving after being under water for 15 minutes.

These villagers refused to be the next victims of religious genocide – they fought back and won – unlike the recent village where 2,500 were killed.

AFRICA – Several Nigerian media outlets have been reporting on local women in the villages of Attagara and Kawuri in Borno State who recently disarmed nearly a dozen Boko Haram terrorists. The notorious pseudo-Islamic terror groups tried to attack the Attagara and Kawuri communities over the weekend but the insurgents were instantly repelled by a group of armed women.

The Attagara and Kawuri villages in Gwoza and Bama Local Government Areas of Borno State resisted the attack using an array of local talismans and, of course, their assault weapons came in handy as well.
Almost immediately, the community rallied round to apprehend the insurgents. At least three of the terrorists managed to flee, but community members say that seven were arrested and executed. (more…)

It’s not quite clear why he quit.  CNN Foreign Correspondent/Anchor  Jim Clancy came out in the open last week as a self admitted hater of Israel.  After admitting to something, which is generally evident amid all of his colleagues, and quite a popular/common sentiment amid the entire network, he quit.  Why? 

(Via Washington Free Beacon) Longtime CNN anchor Jim Clancy resigned from the network on Friday, just days after engaging in an anti-Israel tirade on Twitter and then deleting his account altogether.
Clancy, a 34-year veteran of CNN, announced his resignation in a note to colleagues that was subsequently obtained by Ad Week.

Locally the Durham North Carolina media are reporting the typical leftist reason for backing down, threats from religious right wing extremists and zealots.  However, the reality is that Reverend Franklin Graham virtually single-handedly was about to destroy the University’s financial future….
Via Todd Starnes – Duke University has abandoned its plan to transform the bell tower on the Methodist school’s neo-gothic cathedral into a minaret where the Muslim call to prayer was to be publicly broadcast.
“Duke remains committed to fostering an inclusive, tolerant and welcoming campus for all of its students,” university spokesman Michael Schoenfeld said in a statement. “However, it was clear that what was conceived as an effort to unify was not having the intended effect.”
The first adhan, or call to prayer, had been scheduled to be broadcast on Jan. 16. University officials said, the Islamic chant, which includes the words “Allahu Akbar” would have been “moderately amplified” — in both English and Arabic.
However, the decision brought a firestorm of national criticism from a number of high profile leaders including Franklin Graham, the son of famed evangelist Billy Graham.

Graham said Muslims have a right to worship in America. He also said there are millions of “wonderful people in Islam that want to live their life and raise their children and they want to be free.” But he also said that Islam is not a peaceful religion.

In a Thursday interview with WRAL News, Graham refused to back down, even for those Muslims who have condemned radical Islamic actions.
“I don’t feel I owe an apology to anybody. I think Duke University, they owe an apology,” he said. “They’re the ones who owe the apology to Christian students and the ones who donated money for the chapel.”  (link)
