These financial/media relationships have largely, and historically, remained hidden.  They have damned sure never been publicly, clearly, and regularly stated so the consuming audience would know the presentation was fraught with financial conflict.

(Via Daily Mail) Republican front-runner Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski has been charged with simple battery for allegedly grabbing a reporter, in a case that may hinge on a Secret Service claim that the journalist first made unwanted physical contact with the billionaire-turned-politician.

[…] a member of Trump’s Secret Service detail told DailyMail.com on Tuesday that Fields touched Trump twice – and was warned by agents to stop – before Lewandowski pulled her away.

Harvey Leroy Atwater, or “Lee” as he was known, was an old-school republican political operative who was a master of the dark arts in political obfuscation, and denial.
What we are witnessing in this video, via the denials of Senator Ted Cruz, is straight from the Atwater school of political management.
When infidelities are discovered:
• Hide the spouse • Take her off the trail • Block contact • Delete Social Media • Present female spokesperson as intercepting agent for candidate • Keep interceptor with candidate at all times • Deny • Deny • Deny…. until denial is no longer a plausible option:

♦ The interceptor is to deflect attention away from the campaign. ♦ The Candidate must not answer direct questions. ♦ Reassert candidate’s humility perspective.  This becomes paramount to give space if needed in phase two.
Phase Two – Interceptor drops out.  When/if the candidate can no longer hide the infidelity, the reasons for prior obfuscation/denial was ‘embarrassment‘.   Phase Two ends with re-entry of spouse to deliver the “we will heal / together” speech.  Surround candidate’s optic with friends and family; or carefully host private one-on-one interview.

The February trade gap widened by about a half-billion dollars to — $62.9 billion

(Via CNBC) First-quarter growth is now tracking at just 0.9 percent, after new data showed surprising weakness in consumer spending and a wider-than-expected trade gap.
According to the CNBC/Moody’s Analytics rapid update, economists now see the sluggish growth pace based on already reported data, down from 1.4 percent last week. According to the rapid update, economists have a median forecast of 1.6 percent growth in first-quarter GDP, which includes their estimates for data not yet released. (more…)
