FYI – Senator Ted Cruz and Governor John Kasich held a secret strategy meeting last Saturday in California (requested by Team Cruz) during the weekend California GOP convention meeting. In addition to a closed door Cruz and Kasich discussion, the meeting was attended by a full national contingent of the professional GOPe.
(CNN) John Kasich is dropping out of the Republican presidential race, two sources familiar with the plan confirmed to CNN.
Kasich’s decision came after he improbably became the last challenger to Donald Trump, who emerged as the presumptive GOP nominee Tuesday night when Ted Cruz dropped out. (read more at CNN)
Wow, talk about affirming a solidifying public opinion.
Despite official campaign documents outlining their combined effort, Senator Ted Cruz now tries to say there was no alliance between Team Cruz and Team Kasich.
“John Kasich made the decision in his own political self interest to withdraw from Indiana and compete elsewhere. And that was a perfectly reasonable decision,” Cruz said.
A gobsmacked Team Kasich responds:

[Update – Full Poll Data Added] The very first public poll of Oregon voters ( Poll pdf added ) shows Donald Trump with a substantial lead over Ted Cruz and John Kasich.
Political followers will note, Oregon was one of the states Ted Cruz said he would concede to John Kasich (New Mexico the other) if Kasich pulled out of Indiana as part of their collective Stop Trump strategy. However, Team Kasich is now calling Cruz a liar as part of that agreement doesn’t seem to fit with their actual campaign discussions.
[Via OPB.Org] […] The poll by the Portland-based Hoffman Research Group shows 43 percent support Trump. Twenty-six percent favor Cruz and 17 percent back John Kasich. It is the first public poll of the Republican presidential race in Oregon this year. (more…)
To say that candidate Donald Trump dominated last night’s election result is a bit of an understatement. Team Trump supporters absolutely crushed the competition and outperformed even the largest pre-election night expectations.
Not only did Team Trump win, but the Northeast voters resoundingly won with results that far exceeded the polls going into the five state races:
Key Points:
♦ Donald Trump voters beat the collective totals of both Senator Ted Cruz and John Kasich combined in every state contest, and now lead the national vote total by over 3.2 million votes.
♦ In addition, this is the sixth straight contest where Donald Trump has won more than 50% of the vote (61% in New York) putting to rest the argument that he’s not winning the majority vote.
♦ Donald Trump not only decidedly won every state, he also won every county within each of the five states (CT, PA, DE, RI, MD). Trump also won every single congressional district within each of those states.
Simply put, this was a complete and total victory for candidate Donald Trump and all his supporters. That’s how the people voted, so now we shift focus to the delegate math. (more…)
After the complete Trump New York victory, both Ted Cruz and John Kasich were mathematically eliminated from any possibility of winning through voters. The #NeverTrump campaign shifted and rebranded itself #NeverVoters.
Last night, facing the looming probability of complete defeat on April 26th in the North East primary states of: Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland and Delaware, the Ted Cruz and John Kasich campaigns announced publicly their intents to draw their last-hope firewalls in Indiana, New Mexico and Oregon.
The most current polling of Pennsylvania looks like this:
(full pdf of results here)… and the Trump campaign has also ramped up the voter information for the unbound PA delegates (SEE HERE) turning the tide of in favor of Team Donald Trump in the Keystone State.
As a direct consequence of the growing support for candidate Trump, and with looming electoral defeat on the horizon, the Ted Cruz campaign now places all its “never voter” efforts on stopping Donald Trump from winning Indiana. However, Donald Trump is also polling ahead of Cruz in Indiana – so the Cruz campaign approach throws a Hail-Mary.
In an effort to improve fleeting chances, Team Cruz has struck a deal with the Kasich campaign. Team Kasich is to pull out of Indiana, and Team Cruz will give them free reign in New Mexico and Oregon. (more…)
A very interesting and exceptionally in depth poll from Sextant Strategies (two pdf’s below) of California voters shows candidate Donald Trump is in a commanding position within the state.
Interestingly, the poll highlights two overall categories voter: 1. Registered Republicans who have voted frequently in all recent elections; and 2. New voters who are registering in astonishing numbers in order to vote in this year’s primary.
Donald Trump is leading with traditional republican voters (41%), and is crushing the field with those holding new registration (53%). The internals and crosstabs of the poll are a very interesting read. Here’s the topline result:
Candidate Donald Trump is winning with all demographics (men, women, age, race, income level, education etc.) within the cross tabs of the poll.
However, Trump’s lead expands significantly when you review the “new voters” who are registering by the thousands.
