This is something that I have wanted to share for a while now, and it feels right today. Maybe it is because my own attitude has required a little adjustment, with a refocus on the things that are truly important. Attending a funeral this week, and watching unhealthy family dynamics plays a role too. This was written in 1969 by my mother, who told me that she wrote it on the back of an envelope in the car, tears running down her cheeks. (more…)
*Bumped because there are great links and comments in thread. So we’ll just keep bumping up with updates as things change. Thanks to everyone for info.
(Ynet)- The earthquake in Egypt caught us off guard. As was the case before, this time too our intelligence officials did not predict it, yet we are in good company: No Western country, including America, predicted this, just like they did not predict Hamas’ rise in Gaza.
Yet there is one more thing we can learn from the events in Egypt, aside from the fragility of the region we inhabit, and it is something that’s not easy to digest: The Western world’s and mostly America’s treachery. We learned that the way they abandoned President Mubarak and gave him the cold shoulder can happen to us too. Or in other words, we cannot count on the Americans at a time of crisis. (more…)
White House Wants Obamacare on Slow Legal Track (NewsMax) — A U.S. Supreme Court showdown over President Barack Obama’s health-care overhaul may be inevitable. His administration is in no rush for the court to get involved..
The Justice Department yesterday said it will oppose Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s request that the court immediately review the law, which a federal trial judge said was unconstitutional. The administration said the high court should follow its usual practice and first let an appeals court rule on Cuccinelli’s challenge. (more…)
Progressives demanding their trough be kept full of taxpayer funds are alarmed at the GOP considerations for spending reductions. (ABC News) — As Congress prepares to make deep spending cuts, an army of lobbyists is gearing up to fight back. In an e-mail obtained by ABC News, a top staffer for the key Senate Appropriations subcommittee called for a meeting of lobbyists and interest groups that would be affected by expected cuts to the Labor and Heath and Human Services budget. The Jan. 24 meeting was attended by approximately 400 people, sources told ABC, and served as a “call to arms” for those determined to fight Republican budget cuts. (more…)
It’s Official. “Obamanomics exists in a parallel universe”! Consider this from the Economic Poicy Institute, and Heidi Shierholz. Huh?…
Jobs are heading up and down at the same time? The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced the morning of Feb. 4 that only 36,000 jobs were added in the month of January, but the unemployment rate dropped from 9.4 percent to 9.0 percent. The mainstream news media will likely latch on to the dropping unemployment rate, despite job gains that were less than one-fourth of the consensus estimate of 148,000 jobs added. One of the CNBC panelists noted that the increase was “way below consensus.” (more…)
Good Morning Everyone. Much to be thankful for this week. Another beautiful Sunrise. Despite our challenges we have the grace and comfort of abiding fellowship. Everyone is safe; and we have a treat in store for tomorrow. Stella will be leading off the day with her very first Thread Post. It will be the Open Thread for Saturday. I’m gonna tell you right now to expect something great. I have read it, and it is frilliant. Just like Sharon’s wonderful Mailbox and Old Barns posts on Sunday; Stella has drawn upon the same beautiful frilliance and it is really, really, special. You might even need a kleenex or ten. Now what’s going on in your neck of the woods?
From the land of the progressively absurd…. We don’t just report the news, we create it.(Fox Nation) ABC and reporter John Quinones on Thursday stretched the bounds of journalism, hiring an actor to play a racist security guard as a way of testing how the people of Arizona would react to the state’s “anti-immigration law.” Previewing the network’s “What Would You Do?” segment for Friday’s 20/20, Quinones explained the undercover concept: “So, I go undercover, pretending to be someone who is about to be arrested and deported, simply by the way I look.” (more…)
Hey, I know everyone is dealing with this horrid weather in their own way, but this morning when I read Gracies post about ice-roads, and I keep reading really bad stories all over the web about all the states where people are getting hurt in accidents etc. etc. Then I see this sign. Yikes
I have a genuine sense of worry for our troop. I pray that everyone stays safe, and all our journeys bring us back home safely. Everyone is busy, that’s good, but please check in from time to time so we know all are ok. I’ve never had that thought before and it just makes me jittery. God please watch over everyone during their travels and keep them safe. Amen.
