In Quebec Province, yes. This has been a decades long norm for them. Arrogance seems to be part of the French genetic code. But even then it seems to be mostly concentrated amongst their most leftest leaning. Conservative Canadians tend to be very polite to everyone no matter which province they call home.

It is important for a NHer to clearly depict the reality of the situation for those living in non-bordering states haven’t experienced. I believe what you say. The reason most Americans don’t grasp the reality is bc our fake legacy news didn’t spew hate about Canadians like the Canadian media did about Trump. They hate him and us and apparently the hatred toward Americans goes farther back than Trump.
Granted some Canadians like us, but that is irrelevant when polls reflect the majority don’t. That’s why it is in our national security interest to build a wall. We need to keep out the people of a country who hate us. This isn’t a passing fancy. This hatred will worsen and take 40-70 yrs to reverse, if ever. In the meantime, we must secure the border. USA needs to stop pretending Canada is our friend. They are our neighbor and a hateful one at that.
I remember a lifetime ago when Canadians would come to visit and their $ were worth less than ours but they tried to spend their cash as if it were equivalent to ours and many small businesses had to educate employees not to accept their money. Now I found a bunch of empty homes in my area which I was wondering about until someone reminded me that on the news we heard that many Canadians refuse to come winter in their homes here because they are protesting US. That’s pretty serious. We contemplated moving to Canada many years ago until our Canadian friends explained that we would not be welcomed – that Canadians think poorly of Americans and don’t want us there at all. I have learned that there is a reason why our public school education kept us ignorant about our direct neighbors north and south.

Note the ”trade restrictions’‘ reason. The battle between the US and Canada over TRADE is an on-going battle, and one which might never be resolved.

I agree with you – I travel there regularly on business. He is more or less correct about east Canada being actively anti-American, though in Quebec they’re normally polite to me because I speak French. West Canada is different, however; most of them pro-American.

Much of Anglophone (English speaking) Canada was settled by Crown-Loyalists who fled the United States during and after the Revolution. Somewhere between 30-40,000 Loyalists fled or were chased out. They settled what was then called “Upper Canada” (today’s Ontario) and the Canadian Maritime provinces. Before 1776 Canada was very sparsely populated by Europeans and what there was spoke French.

That is true, though not well known. Some of my ancestors were in an army that invaded Upper Canada in 1813, going after Tecumseh. They British were arming Indians at the time. During the Revolutionary War they even paid them bounties for American scalps – look up “Hair Buyer” Hamilton.

But I have noted regional and class differences to be fair. When I first came to Canada from England I worked with Liberal elites in Canada (mostly Ottawa, T.O. and Vancouver) and Coastal elites in the US, often at board-level, in big FIs and big consumer companies.
I was amazed at how most of these Canadians looked down on or even despised Americans. And neither group worked or socialized with the lower classes. Not what I expected.
13 years later I switched industries and for the last 16 years I’ve been working with founders, owners and management of mid-sized manufacturing and service companies, across Canada and in what the elites patronizingly call flyover America.
These seem to me to be the real Canadians and Americans that I expected to find. Solid good-hearted, hard-working and mostly Christian family types. Salt of the earth. They have a lot in common between the two countries and respect each other.

Carney like Trudeau works for liberals in Toronto and Montreal, but not the rest of the country. Alberta with its oil produces the most revenue for the country but gets little for it. I really expect Alberta to split from the country and possibly take a couple of western provinces with it. When I first was in Canada on a business trip many decades ago Quebec had almost split and they kept the country together but I do not think they will this time.
