Essentially, the U.S. position is to demand a common trade approach toward China and the U.S. delegation gave Canada an ultimatum within the deal proposed, us or them.

Perhaps, things are being done in phases. First is getting trade deals locked in so that everyone knows the rules. Things are being addressed nation to nation and not USA versus Big Business.
There are so many businesses that have their tentacles all over the world. He is trying to get as many of them as possible to locate much of their businesses in the USA.
It won’t always work but he is trying. Why would he presently pick fights with Big Business right now? If they are creating jobs in the USA instead of cheating on trade deals like so many of our “allies” have done then isn’t that good enough for now?
Most of the junk sold by Amazon, Walmart, and others cannot be manufactured in the USA presently. We don’t make that stuff at all nor is anyone interested in opening a plant to make junk that probably still couldn’t be sold for less than it takes for China (slave wages) to sell it in the USA even with tariffs. We need manufacturing of bigger ticket items so that they can pay great wages and still turn a profit.
American manufacturing might wasn’t built on selling kitchen gadgets, beauty products, and pet toys. We may have to let them pay the tariffs and sell their junk in the USA. That’s fine.
In the meantime, Amazon and Walmart provide jobs to mostly working class Americans. What is wrong with that?

Look at the Philippines. Entry level jobs such as McDonalds requires an advanced degree because there are little to no high skill, high paying jobs. So, high skill, educated people have no choice but to take all of the entry level jobs leaving the rest to rely on those with McDonalds jobs to support them.
If we return high paying, high skill jobs to the USA and hire Americans then higher quality/skilled labor will pursue those jobs and leave their Amazon/Walmart jobs. That will force Amazon and WM to decide from which pool of labor they want to draw? Do they up their pay/benefits? Or do they stay the same and rely on high school to twenty something year old labor?
Once we have good high paying jobs again in this country again then the labor market is going to force employers to compete. For 40 years they flipped the bird at Americans and Americans had few options for good paying jobs.
PDJT is working on returning those jobs to the USA. Until then, it is what it is. Low skill employers have the advantage now and we have to suck it up. It took decades to get to this point. It’s going to take a while to get out of it.
I’m not going to get into the cultural aspects of “to much junk”. It took decades to get to the point that our homes are stuffed with junk.
I am almost 70 years old. I lived through what they did to this country and how they destroyed the job market for Americans. I have a degree that encompasses Communism and Economics. I know how this game is played.
But, until there are jobs created that allows people to vote with their feet and flip the bird to low paying employers we are stuck with this system.
Amazon and WM may end up relying mostly on unskilled labor and do just fine. THE MARKET will force them to make that decision. We aren’t there yet.
Additionally, passing a law that forces WM and AMZN to raise wages and provide benefits is stupid. That is similar to California raising minimum wage for fast food workers to $20 an hour.
All it does is 1) More automation and less human labor or 2) They attract high skill labor that cannot find a better job (because they have been stolen from our country) which then leaves low skill people out of work. That is what I was addressing to Aggiegirl who doesn’t mind low skill labor being shut out of the job market.
Then those people go on SNAP, Section 8, and Medicaid and ultimately vote for Democratic Socialism because they have been left behind.

Canada’s military had sent observers to China during the PLA’s winter survival training in early 2018, and had invited PLA representatives to observe Canada’s training at the Petawawa military base in Ontario at a future date.
Canada’s arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou on Dec. 1, 2018, on an extradition request from the United States led to China taking a hostile stance against Canada in pursuit of her release. China followed its threat of dire consequences should Canada fail to release Meng by detaining Canadian citizens Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor on Dec. 10, 2018.
A January 2019 email by a defence department official says the concern about the winter survival training may have come up on the sidelines of a Five Eyes intelligence alliance meeting in the fall of 2018, but added that it was only the United States that was raising security concerns about the engagements. It said the department had no record of other Five Eyes members raising concerns.
An email in the same month by an official with the foreign affairs department notes that there has been a shift in the U.S. stance toward China under the Trump administration, and adds that the reluctance of Canada’s defence department to engage with the PLA is aligned with Washington’s approach.
The documents, which span 2019, also show the foreign affairs department urging the defence department not to cancel its engagements with the PLA, saying that if Canada were to make significant reductions in military engagements, China “will likely read this as a retaliatory move related to the Meng Wanzhou case.”
“Canada does not want to be the partner that is reducing normal bilateral interactions,” reads a guidance document issued by the foreign affairs department to the defence department in February 2019.
In a controversial decision, Canada took part in China’s Military World Games in October 2019 in Wuhan. Referring to the event, China’s Embassy in Ottawa said in a statement after the games that “more countries commend China’s foreign policy and development path.”
A few months before the games, in June, Chinese jets had buzzed Canadian naval ships in the East China Sea.
The released documents show a number of other planned engagements between Canada’s military and the PLA. Included in the list are PLA members attending a security studies program in Canada; PLA members teaching peacekeeping courses in Canada; Canadian forces taking and instructing peacekeeping courses in China; and Canadian delegations attending fleet review and training centres in China, among other planned items.
Canada’s Liberal government pursued closer ties with China after winning the 2015 election, at one point pursuing free trade talks with the communist country, and even considering an extradition treaty with the Beijing regime.
Up until recently, Canadian officials publicly dismissed the claim that the detention of Kovrig and Spavor was in retaliation for Meng’s arrest. Ottawa’s tone however has seemingly become more direct on China of late, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calling out Beijing last month for its “coercive diplomacy.”
Foreign Affairs Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne had also pledged to create a new China policy by year end.
