Washington managed to strategic retreat his way into making the Brits decide they had more important things to which to attend. They left expecting the colonies to dissolve into a squabbling mess, and planned to come back to mop us up a decade or two later.

They were probably surprised as hell that we created a genuine functioning Republic by 1810, so they did come back to try to wipe us off the map then.

My wife and I were listening to Susan Kokinda was speaking about the relationship between U.S. and U.K. and it reminded of President Trump’s visit there during his first term in office, mainly how the Queen signaled our President Trump to walk in front of her as they commenced to walk in the ceremony.
I knew even then that it was a jesture of great importance and mentioned it to my wife as we listened to Susan. About 10 seconds later Kokinda mentioned it in the update posted on the Promethean website, which we were listening to.
My smile widened biggly, knowing the significance of the Queen’s insistence that 45 take the lead. I’m still smiling! 🙂

Trump always mentions how much his mother admired the Queen, and during his first state visit to England, when the Queen was still alive, Trump really pushed his fondness for the Crown.
But, his mom was from Scotland and neither the Scots or Irish have too much love for the Brits. Trump even has a golf course in Scotland.
My recollection of Trump however was his great admiration for the Queen and the idea that they really got along well.
