President Donald Trump talks about placing tariffs on Canadian goods. Ontario Premier Doug Ford talks about “inflicting as much pain as possible on the American people.” See the difference? Tell me again how the term “snowmexicans” is insulting. I digress.
A few thoughts. First, apparently Doug Ford doesn’t quite understand that tariffs on steel, aluminum and auto imports are not part of the “reciprocity” tariff regime. They are an entirely different category classified under national security directives to ensure American industrial capacity.
Second, as Canada moves into the “freedom fries” phase, voices like Doug Ford might want to consider the end of this continuum that finds the word “embargo” in the lingo. Perhaps President Trump would consider elevating the conversation to “reciprocity” in the banking sector. Again, I digress.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces the Canadian government intention to “inflict as much pain as possible against the American people.” WATCH:
Canadians just don’t get it. Meanwhile, as it was within most of the originating negotiations of the USMCA, Mexico smartly stays quiet as stompy feet Canada draws the attention from President Donald Trump.
Canadians want to “inflict as much pain as possible” upon Americans.
♦ Revoke their free Visa access.
♦ Close the border.
♦ Embargo all goods.
♦ Restrict financial services.
♦ Turn off Swift access in Canada.
Let’s see how an independent Canada can function and “inflict pain.”

Maybe it’s just a Tariff Hoax…
I checked the Canadian currency exchange rate and it’s not down. Neither is the Yen, the Euro or the Peso. Now, a few months ago after President Trump won the election and announced his love of tariffs all these currencies plunged big league. Now they have returned to full value against the dollar.
What does this tell us? For one, the major currency traders don’t see draconian tariffs happening and see only negotiating bluster on the part of the United States.
Remember, that while Mercedes Benz, BMW, Land Rover and Lexus are not manufactured in the United States there are hundreds of thousands of Americans working in Mercedes Benz, BMW, Land Rover and Lexus dealerships selling, financing, insuring and servicing those cars plus thousands of businesses who sell them paying sales taxes, property taxes and income taxes. Do we really want to close them and put Americans out of work?
Yes.
Yes. In the short term, there will be disruptions. In the long term, it will right itself as more cars are made in the US, there will be more net jobs of all kinds in the auto industry.
It has to be done. It is a grossly immoral to deindustrialize and hollow out the middle class. Not everyone can code. Not everyone can manage information. The percent of males 18-39 not working is at an all time high. They are not counted as unemployed because they are not looking for work.
To be a real country means to manufacture goods and that includes auto parts currently made in Mexico or parts sent from China and assembled in Canada. It must end.
Newsprint? We have almost no paper mills in the US, so it will make sense to waive tariffs on newsprint form Canada.
Who buys printed news anymore?
My mom was an English teacher and one thing she taught me was, when you’re going somewhere and you might have a stretch of idle time, take a book with you. So with that as background, as to who buys printed news, I’ll say … people stuck in airports who didn’t bring a book with them? 🙂
There will always be some need for paper, because there will always be books. But most consumption of paper is not for books; it is for printed newspapers, printed magazines, junk mail and bureaucratic forms: all things that are thrown away almost as soon as they are printed. It is just a huge waste of trees and a huge amount of trash. All those unnecessary printed things are disappearing already and will disappear totally (thank God for computers). If Canadians want to continue pulping their trees, they surely can, but we won’t need them any more. The few US paper mills are enough for the only useful usage of paper, i.e. books.
Although I always looked forward to & genuinely enjoyed my newspapers as a kid & young man, I now get all my “news” online. I haven’t bought a paper in years.
I do. I enjoy reading the newspaper if if it is The Seattle Times(good lord)
My lefty neighbor down the street mentioned an article he’d read in The NY Times but complained about the delivery guy being late most of the time. I responded that I had dropped my subscription to The NY Times when my bird died. He gave me a quizzical look. I’m not sure he got my joke.
I get it! Hahaha, good one…
Wood Pulp is the core of Hardy Siding. Pulp and Paper still forms material elements of many things.
Newspapers, yes, nearly gone.
I thought BMW and Mercedes had plants in the US?
I haven’t checked lately but BMW had a major auto plant in South Carolina at one point. I think it was in Spartanburg.
Still do.
Few Americans get it. These foreign plants are nearly entirely ASSEMBLY PLANTS. Parts, engineering are Foreign made and based.
You didn’t want “Dirty” Steel mills so….China took them and now have a powerful Military.
What American Politicians were paid under the table to undermine American National Interests?
PRESIDENT TRUMP has already announced $$$$TRILLIONS in foreign investment and new, major job opportunities. As in the past, job opportunities and revenue will shift with market adjustments and changes in revenue. States will then compete for new manufacturing facilities and growth opportunities. Those factors are not “negotiating bluster” but reasonable rhetoric to establish the baseline.
The “currency traders” are not anticipating the futures but just guessing at exchange rates that they know will change as negotiations progress. It is hard to accept the “art of the deal” after 4 years of grift and stupidity.
I hope the “announcements” turn into reality on the ground.
Tariffs will not close dealerships or their activities.
Wrong! BMW and Mercedes ARE manufactured in the USA in South Carolina and have been for decades.
The number of cars that Americans need will remain the same, no matter whether those cars will be made in the US or elsewhere. All the businesses that sell, service, insure cars will have the same amount of customers; they just will sell, service and insure American made cars instead of foreign made cars. So your fears about their going out of business are groundless.
Sherman was a war criminal. Don’t quote war criminals.
LOL
Your ignorance is amusing.
I posted a snapshot of a post on X from this blog’s owner, who was quoting Sherman. And you can take that Civil War-era butthurt elsewhere.
G’night, Karen.
Oh my! From the owner, even. That’s the equivalent of, Do you know who I am? Frankly, I don’t give a damn.
It’s not amusing to me LS. In fact it’s just the opposite.
He was not.
Hilarious. So is Patton, Pershing, MacArthur, Eisenhower, Grant etc………
“War is Hell”
Who is William Sharman??
Mr. Whipple didn’t like anyone squeezing his Charmin…
I’m shaking in my boots. LOL
Snowmexicans. 🤣
Why not? It seems that Europe is/was under the same delusion.
I’ll say it again –
bring it on ya filthy snowmexicans –
IGNORANT Snowmexican I might add! What do you expect from an ex drug dealer. See:
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/globe-investigation-the-ford-familys-history-with-drug-dealing/article12153014/
Fair enough. Doug Ford’s family are tainted by drugs.
But Hollywood/US-TV Culture glorifies drug use. There’s always someone snorting a line, or mainlining a vein with something.
While you are looking through the window of your neighbors house, how about finishing the housecleaning in your own.
MEANWHILE,
many Canadian license plates driving around in the lower 48.
Has anyone else noticed? BTW, you might notice the
RENAULT scooter-car before you
recognize the license plate.
We welcome you to our country.
We’ve always been neighbors, but we are about to be countrymen.
We are neighbours, and we shall remain neighbors. Blowhard Politicians notwithstanding.
Good X account to read from Canada

Carney might as well have announced layoffs for 1 in 8 Canadians, since $3.5b in goods cross the border daily. This is the exact tone many of Canada’s business owners that service America were hoping not to hear, since it means they’ll have to establish cross border ops.

Oh Canada! Go Canada! Hurt me Canada! Ow, Canada! Whoop de do, Canada!!
What are we to do with politicians?
Any loser can become a politician. In the old days, kings and lords owned land and had armies to support them. Now we have scum running every nook and cranny of a persons existence.
Poor Canadians.
Most of them don’t realize that Canada is just a vassal state of England (i.e.: ‘The Crown’).
Trump is offering them freedom from England; and Greenland from the Danish Royals.
Hopefully, they’ll eventually begin to see the bigger picture.
What they need to realize is the time is quickly coming when they’ll have to choose the US, or China/Russia.
From European Vassal State to a Trump Vassal State.
No thanks, I’ll pass.
Greenland and Canada will be taken only by invasion. Whether you can keep anything only time will tell.
Enhanced customs inspections can be used at the border to look for narcotics.
But on a different level, is it time to use RICO tools to hunt for comprador (northern) elites who are enabling the drug running and related money laundering in the US ? Or the banks handling their accounts ?
Adversaries, or even enemies, of the US can also get the Venezuela treatment — secondary sanctions on their trading partners.
LILLEY: Doug Ford still doing feds’ job even after Mark Carney takeover
Excerpt:
Ian Bremmer, the man who heads up the Eurasia Group in New York is an American, which would normally mean he wouldn’t have an insider view of Canadian politics. Bremmer and his organization, though, have employed many Canadians who are in Mark Carney’s inner circle.
This includes Carney’s wife Diana Fox Carney, Carney’s key advisor Gerry Butts, and Carney’s star candidate in Toronto and his former art dealer Evan Solomon. So, when Bremmer makes pronouncements on what the current Liberal government will do in the face of Trump, you should listen.
In an analysis piece for Eurasia Group’s GZero Media, until recently run by Solomon, Bremmer said Europe and Mexico may be able to deal with Trump but Canada is in a different position.
“By contrast, Canadian leaders have a political incentive to put up a bigger fight because Trump’s threats toward Canada’s economy and sovereignty have sharply inflamed nationalist sentiment north of the border in the run-up to the April 28 elections. However, I expect Ottawa will quietly fold shortly after the vote to ensure that ongoing relations with the U.S. remain functional,” Bremmer wrote.
That last bit, “Ottawa will quietly fold,” sounds quite different than the elbows up message being pushed by Carney, Butts and Solomon as they seek to ensure the Liberals are re-elected.
One thing is clear, all sides in this are playing politics for their own gain, none more so than the Carney Liberals.

Gerald Butts? The voice behind the Trudeau throne – Butts?
Marx Carnage is the WEF choice, endorsed by all the Canadian Members of the WEF. He is precisely the guy to finish the destruction of Canada with the Euro/American Big Government/Big Central Bank strangulation of a once functioning economy.
Like I said, Trump is the best friend of Canadian Socialism, at the moment. He either is in on it, or he is missing a few things.
Check out Toronto, Ontario Zillow. Small 1950’s style ranchers and split-levels going for close to $1.0 million Canadian. Canada is socialist but they are too smug to admit it.
Just like the USA, Canada has a house price bubble driven by Central Bank money printing/inflation. A shack close to city center in most American cities would be similarly priced. And C$1million is USD$670,000. Not cheap, true, but have some perspective.
Socialism? Yes, we have that disease. 23% of working Canadians work(?) for the Government, plus contractors, plus 100% of Media employees who are paid by Government.
Yet, I am reliably told 40% of U.S. GDP is Federal, State, County and City employees spending your tax dollars. Is this not so?
And, tell me, how many of US Corporations would drop dead instantly if the U.S. Taxpayer subsidy ended?

SnowMexicans sans the work ethic…
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces the Canadian government intention to “inflict as much pain as possible against the American people.”
The problem I see, is many Representatives, or, heads of State do not, or can not differentiate “Personal from Business”. By making it Personal, one’s unbalanced emotional state of mind blurs, making Business decisions untenable.
A very important point. These people got a taste of Authoritarian power during the virus and Trucker Protest and demonstrated just how unbalanced. Unfortunately, Carter combined our power grid with Canada and Ford can cut power to over 1.5 million US citizens. He has threatened to do so already. We must separate our area from the Canadian grid.
Again, your point is well stated, thank you!

If Canadian leadership doesn’t turn from this path and I highly doubt they will, this whole situation may turn out to be the economic and political equivalent of an intervention plus forced detoxing of someone severely addicted to substances.
It’s going to be painful and ugly to watch and even worse to experience but hopefully in the end comes clarity and healing. There’s also the risk of the patient dying from the stress and withdrawal but let’s hope for a better outcome.
Either he’s really dumb, or he’s whistling past the graveyard. Not good either way.
What pain will Ontario Premier Doug Ford be able to inflict upon as many of us as possible? Exactly what does Canada provide us that would be painful to lose or cost more? I honestly can’t think of anything. 🤔
There was a chemical spill from Canadian side into river separating USA yesterday 🤔
Cutting off the electric grid to over 1.5 million US citizens for whom Ontario provides electric services.
Ford may find support at home for cutting the small amount of their excess Canadian electric power they sell to us, because its slightly cheaper than our generating it there for ourselves. Trump will replace it with rerouted American power and never buy Canadian electricity again.
To try to compete in a trade war with the US, Canada will have to slash taxes, making it impossible to continue providing universal health care at home. The only reason they were able to provide until now was that the USA subsidizes Canada’s nearly non-existent defense spending. Even then “Canadian Universal “free” health care” comes with necessary long waiting lines for care and testing, much less surgery. significant numbers of Canadians die or become too sick while waiting for treatment that it saves them a lot of dough in the long run. This is what it is. This time, I believe there will be no going back to the old system of taking advantage of Uncle Sucker (Sam). What will Canada be like with high unemployment, still high taxes, and little or no “free” universal health care? I guess the world will see soon.
Real maple syrup maybe?
I think that the usmca was a mechanism to build up Canada and Mexico, as well as America.
To force domestic production and eliminate Chinese imports.
One thought being, indirect border security, as they have jobs and economic opportunities locally.
Imagine thriving economies, productive, satisfied populaces.
The ‘leaders’ decided the hand up approach, that President Trump offered, wasn’t as lucrative for them
personally, as the hand out approach had been.
So, here we are. , ( minus the drugs issue )
There is no reason for any Canadian to hate President Trump,
as his efforts were and are to enrich and empower your common citizens.
Do not fall for the emotional appeals, think logically.
Stop barking at the newspaper and start biting the bastards that are hitting you with it.
“Stop barking at the newspaper and start biting the bastards that are hitting you with it.”
Did you get that from Confucius? Damn, that was a good one!
Hear, hear CLM!!!
Let them wither until the last maple leaf falls. National suicide due to stupidity is another way of nature culling the world’s herd. And these dopes thought climate change was an existential threat.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford Vows to “inflict as much pain as possible on
the Americanhis own Canadian people”Ford is a total moron. I remember him from his crack cocaine days as Toronto mayor. Canadian’s do this to themselves.
Perhaps Canada should change their independence day to yesterday?
Many of our “public servants” can’t get a well paying job in the real world. Government is the only possibility for them. They know We the People will promote them to demi-god status.
Bring it. What… Will it be like the pain of a bug bite?
Taking on the USA 🇺🇸
WTF
Must be off his cheap drugs .
IF IMPLEMENTED IN ANY FORM IT WILL BE THE DEATH 💀 TO THE ECONOMY OF CANADA
🇨🇦+🇺🇸💯
51st State of the USA is the inevitable result for Canadian’s .
(period)
I don’t think that means what you think it means…
So sad to see, the lying socialist communist politicians drag Canada into hell, while their people listen to their socialist communist politicians and in unison blame AMERICA! And most Canadians are still sleeping through the take-over while China and other countries step in to pick them dry. Sad.
The only pain that Doug Ford can inflict on Donald Trump is around his ankles. I am reminded of Chihuahua puppies.
Let’s just agree to go our own ways.
We found where Hate lives.
Like the dog that bites the hand that feeds it!!! Nice comments Ford. Maybe you Canadians need to try doing it by yourselves for awhile and see what happens. Spend some of your welfare money on some military instead of relying on the US.
I guess my Canadian family members will have to wait to see me unless they come down here. I won’t spend a dime in Cañada as long as Ford is in charge.
I pity the fate of Canadians who are going to suffer because of the hubris of their leaders.
Canadians are the poster children for Entitled Elites, and they don’t even know it.
FAFO Canada. It won’t be pleasant.
