Before getting into bigger picture analysis and intellectual discussion about FISA and the 702 reauthorizations, let me just reveal some inside DC crap that drives me nuts and at the same time will help y’all understand the nonsense.
First, the Intelligence Community (IC) tells congress, particularly the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, that all hell will break loose if they don’t reauthorize full electronic surveillance of Americans. Congress is petrified of the IC.
Speaker Johnson and all of the key participants are totally siloed from understanding that 702 has nothing to do with incidental collection of American data whilst the honorable IC were doing foreign intercepts. Johnson and most Republicans believe the IC nonsense. They really do.
The politicians and their key staff cannot fathom how the FBI, DOJ, NSD, DHS and contractors use this database to conduct political and “other” (think corporate espionage for sale) surveillance. They really do think the IC is full of honorable rank-and-file. They are inside a DC bubble.
Second, the IC argument is now something akin to we have let thousands of terrorists into the country through the southern border crisis. They say: “My god, we need to monitor the terrorists, and if you take away 702 the foreign terror cells will activate and start killing us all. Do you want that blood on your hands?” You cannot take away surveillance tools.
Third, FISA 702 reauthorization is used as a bargaining chip by people who don’t want to get caught up in the surveillance.
The DC conversations are something like, “Ok, we’ll reauthorize it, but you cannot use it against us – and all the sex parties and perverted stuff we do when no one is around, you must promise to keep our secrets hidden“… Yes, this is why the IC agree to accept a reauthorization that exempts Congress. The IC keep the blackmail – just promise not to use it.
We The People do not have any friends in DC on this issue. The Democrats will reauthorize 702 to continue exploiting surveillance authority – don’t forget over 10,000 log-in portals with access to the NSA database exist, including the workstation at Perkins Coie that ties into the NSA database {GO DEEP}.
President Trump finally opposes the FISA system – writ large – and THAT is progress.

Yes, all hell will break loose because it looks very much to me that the IC controls the gates of hell itself. We already KNOW that the CIA created Al Qaeda ostensibly to defeat the USSR in Afghanistan. I haven’t heard how the CIA ever lost control over Al Qaeda. Has anyone? And we know even more lately with the O’Keefian hidden video of the FBI/CIA guy proudly admitting that they set people up, select people who are “on edge” to step over the line into violence (did anyone connect the dots of that statement and the pattern of mass killers who were on psychiatric drugs which we later find was “on the FBI’s radar?”) More minions of hell which the IC controls?
For the majority of people here, I’m just repeating exactly what you already know… nothing new here. But now we can say there are explicit admissions of what we’ve always suspected.
Yes, when the IC states that “all hell will break loose if you don’t maintain our authorization” I read that as a THREAT, not as a warning about foreign entities who hate the USA. And speaking of which, how many of those external/foreign entities will STOP hating the USA if we strip them of the powers they use to abuse us? Because we ALSO know that the CIA is behind so many operations to destabilize other countries, to rig their elections and stage coups to install government leaders of their choosing.
Ending 702 will not only help the USA be more free, but the rest of the world will very likely become more peaceful as well!
Now if we can just help the “greenies” understand that stopping needless war and conflict will do more to “save the planet” than destroying priceless pieces of art and history ever will.

CIA created the Afghan Mujahedeen as an organized force to combat the Soviets. Al Qaeda emerged out of that movement.

An interesting question will be: who bears the greater burden of responsibility? The ones who recklessly caused the massive influx of potentially dangerous immigrant, terrorist-affiliated groups, or the ones that favor restoring our sacred constitution and its commitment to the Fourth Amendment?
Also note, as Tucker commented, that our intel agencies have had horrendous success at stopping attacks and mass shootings, even as they carefully track and interact with perpetrators.
In closing, I would indeed rather defend adherence to our constitution while at the same time bashing vehemently the Intel complexe for its inane, transgender, DEI wokeness, and sublime ineffectualness, than to defend the reckless Biden’s disregard our laws and constitution while tenaciously enforcing an open door policy to terrorists and killers.

The options for “upvoting” and “flagging” are on opposite sites of the comment box. The “upvote” is the little blue hand on the lower left corner….and the “flag” is red and on the upper right corner. I know it’s incredibly easy to “flag” someone’s comments by mistake by just scrolling.

There needs to be a ‘come to Jesus Arse Kicking meeting’ inside the GOP sooner rather than later. We have been betrayed by a bunch of people who have been threatened and blackmailed by employees of the US Government. General Flynn rightly called these people traitors to the Republic and they should be treated and tried as such.
Speaker Johnson no longer deserves the office that he holds in Congress, but neither does he deserve his own congressional seat. This is why I still believe that Byron Donalds needs to be Speaker. We need someone with a backbone who is calm, truthful, and can communicate clearly, but who will never back down from what is right for America. That is not Johnson!

Why is it whenever you call your congressman you can NEVER actually speak to them?? WHO is representing me? Told the congressman’s office as a person who writes and contributes to intelligence reports and knows of 702…that it is NOT needed as it is used as a backdoor to spy on Americans. If FISA goes away there is a chance foreign evildoers will be able to attack Americans.
If FISA is renewed there is a CERTAINTY that Swamp evildoers will use it to attack and abuse Americans.
I prefer my odds against the risk from foreigners.
The Swamp is much better funded and well-armed than just about any foreign threat, they are already here and they already know where you live and who you are.

I disagree with the premise as well. They know, they know, they know exactly what they are doing and the sad truth is that the major of feckless Republicans don’t care that our rights are becoming a relic of the past.

Washington is a dirty place – many in Congress have unsavory interests which they indulge, as probably a percentage of higher-level people in the White House, federal agencies, the Pentagon, and so on. The IC long ago started keeping photos, videos, recorded phone calls etc., to have leverage on all such individuals. As do also the Chinese, Russians, and the Iranian and foreign operatives embedded within our federal government. The IC (and-or foreign power) says “jump” and the answer from dirty DC must be “how high?” The few good people who go to Washington to save America have to work uphill against that, plus the vast monetary corruption and power plays that are the uniparty.
