SAF = Slowly At First
As unsettled things begin to take on increased frequency and concern, and at the suggestion of some long-time Treeper members, I agree there may be a benefit to sharing information with each other from our regions.
We are unlikely to get a fulsome understanding of what is taking place nationally from any media outlet. Indeed, there is a greater likelihood of disturbances and regional issues being downplayed and dismissed as they were in the “knock-out game” era. So, I am going to occasionally post SAF articles where discussion on regional security issues, disturbances that appear coordinated, can be shared among our Treehouse community.
All future SAF posts will be password protected, at least for the first 24 hours. This will permit me to review the conversation prior to (if at all) removing the restriction and allowing public review. By now, all CTH readers should be familiar with the password for protected posts.
Consider the SAF threads a specific focus where we can address concerns of regional conflict, civic disturbance or any concerns that appear to threaten the tranquility of our area, neighborhood, region, village or location. The SAF threads will be a place where you can review what is happening on a more national basis and get an idea of what types of potential threats to civil disorder might be starting to surface.
These SAF threads are for you. For us to understand the scale and scope of any civic unrest that might be happening. Your comments are the point of the SAF posts, and I will also put any larger national story into the equation for discussion. A simple state and area are all that is needed for sharing, ie, central Mississippi, Virginia southern coast, etc. No need to get specific, just ground reports with general proximity identified.
Additionally, if you have general advice, suggestions, thoughts or plans that you have put into place and feel may benefit the audience, feel free to share your advice and suggestions. Again, this is a conversation.
The purpose is three-fold. One, so we have an understanding of what is happening. Two, so we can share and counsel with best ideas and suggestions. Three, so that we realize we are not alone.
More later.
Love to all,
~ Sundance

Thank you Sundance and Treepers.
Reporting for NWArkansas. Rural, county close to large “town”. I do not notice panic. I do notice people complaining about things out loud. This is a very patriotic bubble, even though our rep is a major rino. Big MAGA. It appears to me individuals are becoming more “resistant” to the events. They are mostly prepared. We have our sleepers and not so bright bunch. In my particular location people are aware. Stoic. Go 30 miles to a larger “town” with a 4 university campus and dems things are little messy. Not out of control at the moment.
Best description at the moment is: a sense of concern. Uncomfortable.
Re the not so bright bunch:
I’ve always felt that my biggest problem with being smart and logical is dealing with people who are neither of those things.
Well put, and ditto.
There have actually been times, when I felt it was a curse.
“Why, oh why can’t I just not see, what almost everybody else isn’t seeing, …I would be much happier!”
Couldn’t agree more. I’ve been muttering this since 2020.
Oh geez that is so true. Cleaned up a bit, my dad always told me the Lord must have loved stupid because he sure made a lot of it!
On another note, central NYS is business as usual, with few seeming concerned. It’s only when you feel certain people out that you recognize who is aware, and who is preparing mentally and physically for the challenges ahead.
Anyone from the RI area?
And the events of the past three years have revealed that there are more of them than I ever imagined.
We are importing them by the millions.
Hey GN,
NCentralArk here, 60 miles outside Rock city. There have been some changes over the last 50 years but nothing major in the last 4 or 5… other than the local kids with green hair, tats, piercings, etc. I hope we can keep it this way.

what list and where?
Rural western Manitoba Canada. A shift in the things people are doing. Subtle but there. Many farmers now have a few pigs for their own consumption and a few extra for family in the city. There are now also goat, sleep and rabbit commonly seen. Chickens are becoming popular again. There are homesteaders quietly and illegally offering milk, eggs, and meat for sale for cash. Large vegetables gardens being grown now. Apple trees on local common areas are being stripped for the fruit now instead of being left for the deer. People are going about their business but there is a quiet wariness I don’t recall from before. Everyone I know has lost someone to a recent cancer/heart attack/sudden death. People are mostly saying they will not vax again. The medical system is in terrible crisis to the point of breaking down. It’s impossible to get a family doctor now and many doctors are gone. Very difficult to get any kind of primary care. People are quietly grumbling about food prices. Officially the inflation rate is under control but many items are up 100%+ more than last year. Last year my wife bought butter for $2.99Can. It is now typically $7.99. We found some on sale for $4.99 last month and bought as much as we could store. My wife is also buying from a local homesteader and making her own butter. Petty crime is way way up. Every day a post on local facebook groups about a bike stolen, a truck gone, a gas tank emptied. There are sporadic shortages of things like back as in the pandemic days. The vet is having trouble getting supplies in, especially antibiotics. Sizes for small animals have been back ordered for weeks. He’s resorted to cutting up pills for large animals to make small animal doses. Firewood business is positively booming like never before. Used wood stoves get snatched up as soon as the message is posted on local social media. People talk about how to set up and use wood stoves for heat at the local coffee shop “just in case”. Cattle prices are way up. The farmers are happy about that but also paying their bills really quickly. On the surface everything is normal. But talk just a little bit beyond pleasantries about the weather and you soon hear worry. A lot. The real old timers often discuss The Depression and how to survive it because it’s happening again.
Great update Justin!
Butter in Ontario is up to $8.99. Once that suddenly happened the entire store received my family’s undivided attention. Produce way up $, garbage food aisles seem like a bargain, homelessness is increasing significantly. Beaches and streets littered with needles. We are a small Northern Ontario town with 50,000 plus people and are now seeing mass immigration, excrement on the streets, daily stolen bikes and break-ins, and daytime home invasions – recent attacker used a hammer and handgun for good measure.

Dear God,
Please help us

Southern Ontario here. Just today someone posted on our church chat that we need to be wary of domestic attacks. After watching what the police did to those in the convoy, I have very little faith in law enforcement to protect us when the hordes advance on us. In fact I’m inclined to believe that they will enable the butchering.
My wife and I have meat birds this year and beef cows. We do have a getaway spot. It is a very hard position for a father of young children to be in. I try to live life so that they have the most potential when they age, but I live in constant fear that I have not prepared enough. Time and money are so hard to find.
I speak for myself, but I don’t think I’m alone when I feel that the ship has taken on too much water to be saved. It is a mathematical certainty that Canada is going to the bottom.
CTH has been a real motivator for me to be ready. Thanks to Sundance for the timely reminders.

Good chance the US will take on too many invaders to recover as a sovereign. But as EverTrumper posted, the people will rise from the ashes.
I keep adding to my firewood stash.
Been thinking more about security.
This weekend I’ll add a “honey do” for hubby to install the extra security lights that I bought months ago.
I have a relative farming around Oxbow, SK. He has reported other farmers finding copper theft from around their grain storage.
Curious to know whether fuel theft is an issue, or other problems with farm equipment being remote from a farm due to harvest.
Oh yes. Local farmers no longer leave their equipment in the fields. It goes home into their yard at night preferably locked in a quonset. Parts go missing right off the tractor. It’s a major nuisance if your field is miles away from your home quarter. The other thing is trucks have to be locked and the keys with you while you are in the tractor. Otherwise your truck can vanish while you watch from the other side of the quarter.
I’d like to request prayers for protection for my unsaved daughter. I’m nervous about her flying from LA to Miami for work tomorrow.
Said.
Prayers done!
prayers sent for The Lord to soften her heart
Where in Miami? If she is staying at a big name hotel downtown or at the airport she should be okay just don’t go gallivanting anywhere at night. Hopefully she is with some people who she works with.
I second this. Parts of Miami have been unsafe for decades to drive through in daylight. OTOH, other parts I have walked to the beach for a swim and back to the condo to cook dinner.
Praying unceasingly 🙏🏼
On my prayer list.
Prayers on the way
pray list added!
God Bless America
Thank you for your prayers! Praying everyone’s family stays safe tomorrow.

Semi-rural N. Texas. Currently very red, but GOPe-lite representation at state and congressional level. Pretty quiet, life as normal. I have heard from a variety of people that masks and shutdowns will not be complied with.
Dallas suburbia rapidly expanding to here. Growth appears to be high education high tech, but that generally brings H1B and Cali escapees. Will see what happens, but planning to move more rural and start a well-armed hobby farm as emergency backup to my regular job. Possibly TX, possibly NW Arkansas.
Went to a BofA branch near you that was staffed by visa workers with ethic garb. Was not treated right even though I have banked there for decades, so I moved most of my money out of there.
Good for you. When I lived in AZ, customer service was bad without the staff of visa workers. Withdrew all my money.

This week, Bongino and Kyle Seraphin have been giving women important advice. If things devolve and there is violence, do not get involved if your men engage.
You can only make things harder for your alpha male.
Do not grab his clothes or scream his name. He needs to stay focused while he is trying to protect both of you.
Go to the side and call 911 if you think he needs help. He wants you in the clear.
This is great advice. Difficult maybe, but very important. Thanks for posting.

Investigate Kratky Hydroponics easy for beginners. Hold your nose and check out on U Tube. You can grow simple vegetables indoors.
Also research “AQUAPONICS”; infinetly scalable, from tabletop, to balcony to whole back yard.
Produces both protein (FISH!) and fruits, veggies and herbs,..without chemicals like hydroponics usually requires.
I am also on my way regrowing store bought onion, celery and cabbage. So far so good. Takes my mind off the state of the world for a bit.
i did some garlic this way. Turned out beautifully.
In that sense, it is seriously addicting.
I bought this commercial grade heat mat with the thermostat. I got the 10 foot one which was a splurge, but I’ve never regretted it for a second and every year I wish for more space on it. It’s about 5 years old now and runs as well as the day I got it. We built a 10 foot table for it out of scrap wood in the exact width of the trays.
Stuff is such junk now, I highly recommend spending extra for commercial grade for the things you want to buy right and buy it once.
If you have a good heat mat like this and some lights, you could grow a enough to stay fed for quite some time.
Plus it’s very enjoyable to do during the off season.
There are UTube vids about how people do setups in the basement to grow micro-greens and it’s amazing what they put together.. this is all totally doable and it needn’t cost a fortune. It’s kind of a fun project to see what you can rig up and make work..
Got Homeschooling kids? this is an excellent project and thing to learn about.
Here’s the link for this awesome heat mat that I have.
These Redi-Heat mats are sold at all sorts of places if you search that brand.. so do look around.

Also read up on sprouting beans and seeds. For example, you can sprout most beans by soaking them overnight and then rinsing them each day for a few days.
The dried beans of all varieties from your grocers can be planted and will grow. For example: Octobers, pintos, baby lima, red, Northern etc. They must be soaked first to rehydrate (I just do an hour) and planted in moist ground. The success rates are not as high as “seed” beans from catalog or garden store sales but they’re MUCH cheaper.
I experimented with several types of dried beans this year in multiple gardens. Some of all varieties of beans came up/sprouted but ones packed more recently were more successful than older packages.
My plan after experimenting this year is to stockpile a large quantity of dried beans of all types. They take very little space and are reasonably priced. More economical to buy than raise in most cases but if worse comes to worse I have a large stock of seed for protein.
Yes its more of a pain to plan ahead and soak dried beans overnight before cooking but they’re cheaper than canned and don’t waste as much resources either.
Most seeds such as corn will store for surprisingly long periods of time measured in years. If you raise green beans or corn you can set aside some to dry and there you have next years seed, (doesn’t work on some hybrid varieties).
I learned the hard way that it’s almost impossible to cook beans to a soft consistency if they are several years old. So rotate your stock, don’t let them sit too long.
Yes it takes boiling for a few minutes and then soaking for two nights before cooking on really old ones.
But that’s still easier to store emergency supplies than a lot of other items.
Thanks for the info. I didn’t know you could grow new beans from supermarket beans. Good to know.
I should have been clearer. What I had in mind was storing lots of beans, for example mung beans or black beans, and then sprouting them instead of having to cook them. I probably should have started a new post since I wasn’t writing about “growing” them. Sorry for the confusion.
But I can help with the “pain of cooking” by suggesting that you sprout instead of having to cook. Sprouting takes a few days depending on how warm it is and how large the beans are. They taste “raw” and fresh, and are good in salads. But you can also cook/warm up sprouted beans or use them in a cooked recipe.
This is a pretty good article:
https://zerowastechef.com/2017/02/09/sprout-grains-seeds/
Soak the beans over overnight in a glass jar and use a lid with holes (maybe a half cup to a cup of beans). Leave room in the jar for the beans to expand and sprouts to grow. In the morning, drain the soaking water and rinse the beans. Drain out all the rinse water and lay the jar on its side to spread out the beans in the jar.
Depending on how warm it is, in a day or two small sprouts will appear in the beans. Each day, rinse the beans until the sprouts are as long as you like and the beans are edible raw (no longer hard).
You can also sprout seeds (for example broccoli seeds) and use them in salads (or cook if desired).
Will have to try sprouting some basic pinto beans and then cooking them. Interesting experiment to try. Thanks for info.
Easiest sprouting setup is a large plastic jar, put holes in it with a soldering iron or hot screwdriver.
Fill with beans and water, roll the beans around a few times, then let drain. Other ways, require you wait while the water fully drains from the jar mouth, with the holes, you don’t have to wait. Repeat twice a day for about 2 weeks and sprouts.
Yeah Mexican oatmeal for breakfast – refried beans with avocado salad ! Add cheese and rice or corn tortilla and it will take you all the way to early dinner!
Some cultures do baked beans (think pork & beans or Bushes baked) on toast for breakfast.
Back in the day a pot of green beans or pinto beans was almost always warm on the old wood cookstove along with a pot of coffee in rural America. Add corn pone or corn bread and a bit of pork seasoning and it was what folks survived on during the Depression.
This is how you survive if the budget is tight and not by microwaving expensive and not that nutritious packaged meals.
I can attest that Kratky Hydro works. I’ve grown more lettuce than I ever care to eat from my one 25 gal. tub from Costco and a grow light. Then I tried two cucumber plants. Those things looked more like weapons than vegetables. Good flavor, not bitter at all, and great production. Now I’m starting a couple tomato plants for winter salads.
Once you set up your Kratky buckets or bins with light source, it’s easy and amazing.
I flunked hydroponics 3 times. I am awesome with my vertical planters and the lemon grass I planted in the front lawn is 5′ high.

I have mixed feelings about dogs that bark (I have two). There’s no way I can hide and escape detection with those two maniacs sounding the alarm!
FBI claims a barking dog deters burglars and home invasions and says that criminals don’t want to deal with dogs.
Moslems will kill the dogs first.
Right. We’re not dealing with your average, garden-variety home invaders.

Thank you for some great advice. FWIW, I’ve been told that all landlines are now actually VoIP (voice over internet protocol), but maybe there are some exceptions depending upon your area and provider.
If you live in a house or apartment that is newer in a newly developed area, there are no physical land lines in the infrastructure. So your options are VoIP and or a cellular unit that connects to a traditional telephone.

I too follow the postings on the local NextDoor site, read regularly of the increasing crime and consequent frustration … but heaven help you if post about the actual causes! It’s the epitome of pretending.
At some point in the last two years I read that “Next Door” is wide open to hackers …… I have no idea if this is still true.
Hi Kristen,
We’re also in Cave Creek area, always interested in meeting like minded neighbors!
Don’t know if there is a way to share contact info here.

I used to drive to work at the airport. This was a problem. Area around the back side of airports always bad. Aside from organized theft rings running the air freight terminals at about $1.5mil/week (verified number. As long as less than 3% volume of freight insurers and airlines would rather pay loss than delays to clean) and 24 hour strip clubs it was normal sleaze. Problem was that fed and TSA rules listed prohibited items in vehicles in ‘secure’ employee parking which included list of weapons including knives, mace, pepper spray – anything a female driver in impractical uniform might use to fend off a carjacker. Anything on list – mandatory felony if it was in the car entering airport property. BUT items not on list okay. Since the truck had farm plates on it I figured having the cattle prods in the back seat (within easy reach but out of sight) was the practical solution. Any farm supply works

Wow. We have already proven in this country that anyone who hates the USA can block roadways, freeways, and expressways with no punishment. While these “friends of Hamas” have stopped traffic EVERYONE STUCK THERE IN THEIR VEHICLES ARE SITTING DUCKS. This is how you kill hundreds of people in their cars. They can’t move in any direction.

On the topic of chaos, has anyone else noticed an increase in random people walking? I am not in an area where walking is regular (ie metros) and have noticed a huge increase in black men walking between cars at stop lights. Nothing has happened that I’ve seen, but wondering if the locals are being conditioned to think this is normal.

I also can see this happening more often to pressure POTATUS to fund the usual left-wing groups who provide “services” to illegals.
I’ve been reading that the repub govrs sending out busloads to ‘democrat cities’ is all a ploy to purposely send out and distribute the illegals. They are in on it, and help get them distributed around the country.
It wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
They were seeding them pretty heavily in red areas when POTATUS first started this nonsense.
SOMETHING is going on for the last year. I drive long distances for years, usually at night. Less traffic cuts down on travel time and it’s a breeze through the city at night with expressways empty. I know all the stops with great coffee and good gas price, safe, etc. Also practical because I got off work at weird hours. Gave up on the idea of the old quick nap at the rest area – for over a year the roads are flooded with newer white vans, all new and good condition. Unmarked. Drivers keep to themselves. Then busses and big new ones. No labels. Drivers quiet, distant, not mingling. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE ! Often traveling in groups. SOMETHING is happening.
Nothing much to report on my area of SW Missouri. My county is 97% Caucasian without one mosque. Just to the north is our large college town. It so far is quiet too.

They almost always answer: “I can’t bring myself to vote conservative.” There are actually many people in the valley here who physically voted for Biden (vs done by Dominion). They are nervous, jittery and very uncertain as the chickens keeping coming back in waves to roost. Several mayors of different local towns have been settling African and Middle Eastern Muslims in their areas mostly via Catholic and Mormon “charity organizations”. Large number of illegals from south of the border in the next towns over as well. The patriot locals have been stocking up. They also are coming in large numbers to the gun ranges that I frequent. They bring their kids and have been teaching them gun safety and target practice. The targets are human cut-outs. Ammo is still available but getting more expensive. First aid/CPR classes are seeing much more attendance. Traffic is now terrible are there are multiple vulnerable “choke points” that I completely avoid.
I’m the next town west of you, chestdocmd.
Good report and advice.
CTH had great reporting on the OTM invasion and all the charities involved, and then there is Chobani….
Grrrrr.
I call what you are dealing with the Dumbasspora.
The metastasizing of the Commie Cancer throughout the Republic.
Veterans Day is coming up, might want to be on the Lert for that. Our town does a Veterans Day parade every year and restaurants are usually full w/all the free meals and discounts.
In this part of the pacific northwest there is a traditional bellweather county with a solid, decades long history of conservative votes and values.
Until the last presidential election.
The first official covid case was announced from seattle. But it came there from another part of the state. This is that place.
There are antifarians and blmers working in school districts, the medical/veterinary community and food services.
It appears folks are becoming a little more wary and watchful.
Here in my neck of the woods in NW Arkansas, everybody is armed & ready; EVERYBODY, except those victims of communism that keep flooding in from Caliphornia. The ones who still adhere to leftism usually don’t last more than two seasons before they leave. You cannot promote evil marxist totalitarian BS in this part of the country and live to tell about it.
I have seen only one BLM sign in the entire county and that was in the largest town. Gonna find an idiot anywhere you go. I have previously seen 2 Hillary signs & 2 Biden signs in the whole county. That would account for the 4 mentally ill residents of the county.
Everybody I meet, and those I already talk to, talks about the high prices, corrupt to the core government that cannot be trusted, corrupt medical cartel, stocking food & supplies, and keeping the powder dry – so to speak.
When I was a bit younger I would have said “bring it on”. Now that I’m older than many, I say “go ahead and try to assault me if you think you are man enough”. That is pretty much a common statement or thought among the seniors in the Ozarks. F.. around & find out is also what the younger residents are ready to deliver. I don’t speak of city dwellers, these are learned country folks who have no use for phonies or motormouths.
No panic here either, just mainly situational awareness. I am impressed by some of the up-to-date knowledge of what’s going on when I talk to most. Those who don’t know are usually willing listeners who are sure to follow up.
Got to go check on a neighbor now, was going to write more.
This site is the top internet site for me. TGP is second. I have learned much and my eyes opened wider by the wisdom and knowledge of Sundance. Have been reading here for years or longer. I know a good thing when I see it, and I’m glad to be a small part of this good thing.
Love you!! Thank you!!
God bless you. MAGA 👊👊❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
I live in a small city in VA. Tonight when I was driving through town I heard yelling and realized there were about 40 or 50 people marching through town in support of Hamas and against Israel. Almost all of them were white with a couple of black people and a few who looked middle Eastern.
I think they were probably from the local college but it was strange.
Few Moslems here in rural west central/northwestern Ohio: Columbus has the most to fear, as it has all kinds of Somalis, Turks, and others.
The small towns between Dayton and Toledo are MAGA territory.
I will say that local shooting ranges have been busy to downright crowded. One was created less than 2 years ago in a large building which formerly housed a car dealership.
As a small indication of a change, my brother-in-law and his small-town friends, monomaniacs about car racing, and usually loath to spend any money on anything except their race cars, have started buying hand-guns and rifles and ammunition and practicing their marksmanship, all since January 2021.
Up until then, they tended to be apolitical, ignorant of everything, unwilling to register to vote because it meant listing their existence with another government agency and risking jury duty.
In 2016, that began to change slowly, and the change has accelerated since 2021.
Never let your car get below a half of tank of gas.
just topped off and got two more gallons for the generator
And keep both vehicle and house doors locked.
It has been over 30 years since living in AZ and 35 since we left CA. I NEVER leave my car door unlocked when out and about and parked in the community. It is a well ingrained habit.
East TN gas was 2.72/gal. at Costco–a real surprise.
Most that I know still have their heads in the sand, no stockpiling, still getting the vax…
Those gas prices sound wonderful. I think I remember……
Central rural Oregon here. Paid $4.19 at Safeway today and thought to myself how nice it was that there was a price drop. It’s been well over $4.50 for many weeks.
I have always said that it takes the same amount of money to fill the top half of a fuel tank as it does the bottom half, so why not just keep it full. Call the halfway point “Empty” & just go to the gas station & top it off.
It also helps that you are keeping an in-fuel-tank fuel pump from either overheating when it is hot, or sucking the tank dry if you do run out.
Particularly, where I/we live in SE MN, last thing ya want if you slide off a road into the ditch, is to worry if you have enough fuel to stay warm until ya can get yanked out, or wait until the snow/blizzard stops so you can hoof it if need be.
Simple good advice, leavemygunsalone.
GOD Bless everyone.
Thanks to Sundance and family. This place lives up to being The Last Refuge.
North central Maryland here. Nothing different locally. Very MAGA, very rural and very agricultural. We have a good bit of experience with self-reliance, tools, equipment and practical knowledge – it’s almost a requirement so that when roads ice up and the power goes out for a couple of days, it’s not a big deal. Pantry, freezer, fuel tanks, firewood, etc. are all stocked up. If trouble started here today, there couldn’t be a better time for it.
Hopefully you all have friends and family out in the sticks. If not, this might be a good time to make some. Be prepared to work, though.
Central NYS. My rural village is good to go so far. Our NYS gun law only allows maximum of 10 round clips. So l go out carrying two 9mm pistols, and a revolver in my car. My home has 5 weapons. I’m ready for’em…fugittabouit.
same 10 rd limit/mag in cali
get your hands on the double-sided 10 round mags – 10 rds top, 10 rds bottom, just eject and flip
easier and much faster than fumbling for a second mag
This ‘un’s for youse, Frankie.
One cannoli for you. Two cannoli for me…Fugittaboutit.
for the last several months we have groups of 3-5 hispanic men carrying their belongings in sacks over their shoulders going by once or twice a week. I live off a freeway exit about half a mile up the road. These groups are heading towards the downtown area and just walk down the sidewalk. They all have new clothes and cellphones. All look in good shape and speaking Spanish. No idea where they end up but it is strange to see in G. Floyd country central, ohan’s district. I do not converse much with the neighbors as they were big blm sign types but guys I know have all stated we are in for a shitstorm we just do not know when. We have no faith in our city police, overwhelmed and understaffed due to flyods lasting influence and a bunch of circus freaks for a city council and a boy for a mayor and a putz for a gov. Yep when it happens it will be ugly, Only hope we have is it wont happen in the winter as it is too damn cold to do anything to stupid. Increase in sales tax of 1% to Build ” affordable housing” for the have nots. Yep life is grand in Minneapolis, Mn
Paintbrush,
I am in a suburb SE of you. I have not noticed too much off around here but a few weeks ago I noticed a middle eastern family at the local grocery. They looked Syrian and were dressed very nicely and driving a nice SUV. It just seemed a bit out of place and made me go hmmm. Always locked and loaded. I concur on that ridiculous 1% sales tax increase. Am counting the days until we move out of this state.
I have lived here for 67 years and this town has completely gone to hell, slowly then all at once. I have deep roots here so to the Missus but between the bitter cold and taxes along with the inept clowns in out local and state gov. we are starting to entertain moving south but hard to decide where to go as I have heard horror stories about Florida and not a huge fan of heat and humidity but the wife loves it ..
TN is pretty good outside the cities. I feel fortunate to be here. Do love the ocean and the gulf, though.
(We have quite a few lakes, but it’s not the same.)
PS TO ADREM:
Sorry, I accidentally posted this with a strange username after I apparently hit some random keys when I set my phone down for a minute. Only noticed because it went to moderation.
If you can swing being a snowbird that is best. My dogs are thrilled to be able to go outside now but we’re still running AC. Central AZ. We have cabin fever for 6 months a year due to heat. Older bodies don’t like it.
Why don’t you explore the state of Kansas? I am an escapee from Colorado, aka “California East.”
I have found this state to be wonderful in comparison. Do some research.
Get out and enjoy life for a change.
I’m in Grand Rapids Michigan and I’ve heard people saying to stay out of Downtown tomorrow because of a possible anti-Israel protest. I haven’t heard anything on the local news and I didn’t expect to hear anything from them as their reports are rather one sided.
Start with your own list of Mazlows priorities; essentials for life; food, potable water, sanitation, medical care, communication, transportation, information, energy for heating/cooling shelter, energy for heating cooling food, defence and yes even entertainment.
Imagine you can not fulfill these basic needs as you do now; the grid is down, etc. And START taking baby steps towards self-sufficiency, so that you COULD fulfill them. Firstly, for a short period of time, then more long term.
It seems daunting, cause it IS, but remember how you eat an elephant; one bite at a time, and keep your gaze on the bite in front of you.
If you raise your eyes, and see the whole elephant you will be discouraged “I can’t POSSIBLY eat all of this!” but,…one bite at a time..
And, don’t get hung up on fancy, expensive gizmos, stick with low tech.
Simple off the shelf canned goods, properly stored are “better” than far more expensive freeze dried, for instance.
Canned vegetables and beans are pretty inexpensive and pretty healthy too, especially the low sodium or no added salt types. Sames goes for the canned fruits if packed in juice, not syrup. All of which can be eaten right out of the can without cooking, you just need a manual can opener.
6 cans of white or navy or kidney beans, 9 cans of vegetables and 6 cans of fruit equals a three day 2k+ calorie diet per person for about $30 if buying no-name brands. A case of water bottles will run another $5.
A three day stash of ready-to-eat food and water for $35 that can be kept under the bed.
Canned tuna, chicken, salmon, corned beef, spam…. The point is nobody starves. Gives you a few months to figure out long term options in SHTF situ.
