BRUSSELS, Feb 28 (Reuters) – European Union leaders may discuss the possibility of Ukrainian membership at an informal summit in March, a senior EU official said on Monday, adding the issue was important for Ukraine in discussions with Russia on ending the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday that he had signed an official request for Ukraine to join the bloc. “I think one of the reasons that this is important for President Zelenskiy is also potentially in some of the discussions with Russia on a way out,” the official said referring to talks to end the conflict.
“On the application (of Ukraine for EU membership) I think it’s important not to get ahead of ourselves,” the official, who asked not to be named, said. “It obviously has not yet been received, but this whole question of the Ukraine situation is something that’s very much on the minds of the leaders.”
The bloc’s top diplomat Josep Borrell said the immediate priority was to provide practical support to Ukraine to counter the Russia invasion, rather than discussing long-term issues which could take years. (read more)
As the western political battle for the hearts and minds of the world continue, the villain in the script, Russian President Vladimir Putin, appears to be concentrating his efforts in ridding eastern Ukraine of the military units who have been shelling the Donbas region for approximately 8 years.
Unlike the approach to the population centers, it appears unlikely there will be any mercy for the Ukrainian army in that sector of the country.
Anyone interested in the Soviet/Russian Armed forces is looking at the pictures on the news and reading the reports and saying to themselves, ‘somethings wrong here’. My theory is that someone fed Putin duff intelligence so that he would launch a series of coup de main attacks into prepared hornets nests, whilst the relief columns were ambushed by state of the art ATGM’s and LAW weapon systems. This suspicion is reinforced by Europes speedy response in supplying, previously banned lethal aid, and agreeing to economic sanctions. One might also suspect, given the shocking failures of planning and execution of the operation, especially abandoning SOP’s, that the instigators had help from inside the Russian government or army itself.
I think if you look at a list of the winners and losers, of such a scenario, it gives you an idea where the plan originated.

NATO is just a large country club where the boys get together to socialize and swill cocktails.

I really believe the original plan was for Russian “slight incursion” into Ukraine approved by Biden.
Then Ukraine would be let into NATO in retaliation.

It appears Ukraine cannot stand alone without help with Russia. While also Russia has determined its future is reliant on Ukraine not joining NATO.

I saw a video of this last night. It looked like a comedy routine.
While I support the Ukraine people we are setting them up for slaughter. If NATO won’t approve a no fly zone over Ukraine we are leading these people to their death. We are giving them false hope against a ruthless dictator. He will mow them down with time. The best the Ukraine people can do is fight an insurgent war. Giving them weapons help but they will need boot on the ground to survive this invasion.
A no-fly zone would ensure WW3. Besides, this isn’t Saddam’s non-0existent air force we’re dealing with.

Putin’s war against Ukraine becoming a NATO nation is seeing Finland and Sweden, now being said, (should) be invited into NATO. It appears this is not where we heading.
