But yet, you also know if it’s in that drawer, it must mean something- but what? lots of thinking is required because you know damn right well that key you toss out thinking it’s junk may be the one that goes to something important- but what?
So cleaning this drawer all out and finding a home for all this stuff is nothing but a series of tons of small but important decisions and all at once as you create order out of this mess before the drawer breaks because it’s so heavy now with junk and clutter.
So now scale this all up into an entire society all at once sorting out the Junk Drawer Of 250 years of the Life of a Nation.
This is where we’re at today. It’s appears to be chaos on the surface but there is a new order being created.

Increasing petroleum supply is only part of the equation. Increasing refining capacity is another.
Truth be told there needs to be something like at least a dozen more refineries to serve the markets in the United States

I do not see that happening without a significant change of leadership in California, ie when hell freezes over.
Considering the importance of fuel and other refined products to the Pentagon’s logistics on the West Coast, I could see them buying them and having contractors operate them to produce what they need and selling any excess to the local communities. Maybe.
Exempting such facilities from California regulations over Federal regulations will undoubtedly end up in the Federal courts quickly.

Seeming as Brownsville Texas is relatively close to the US-Mexico border they will probably be refining a lot of products for both Mexico and the United States. As to the distribution, that is bit early to tell.
Get rid of the damn ethanol requirements and let more”microbrewers” make regional diesel. For around $20K you can buy a machine that processes veggie oils and discarded frying oil into biodiesel. I was looking into purchasing one but it only makes senses if you can produce more than you need and sell the excess (one pickup truck would take decades to justify the investment). The chemicals aren’t cheap either unless you buy in bulk. But if you had 5-10 friends or farmers buying your fuel it becomes feasible and way less than $5/gallon.
The cost of diesel is ridiculous now. Used to be either less than gasoline or about $.50 more per gallon, not a dollar or more greater. It’s less refined so it shouldn’t cost more to make!

No argument from me on the ethanol. Big AG may differ however.
As an oxygenate ethanol can fulfill that role at a much lower percentage of the mix of fuel then current and arguably is not as necessary with fuel injection and emissions control tech that is already a couple of decades old. Chemistry is not my primary focus though.
As to the diesel, everything for sale on the shelf in the retail stores requires transport, and usually by way of a commercial truck. The cost of diesel is reflected in the prices of everything accordingly.
….plus the types of crude they can run….I would personally like to see no crude exported from USA….only finished/refined products….by the shipload.
There may be hope for that once you strangle the (dubiously) US Chamber of Commerce.

Oil patch owners have NOTHING to do with the price they receive for their oil. From the smallest independent to Exxon,,, nobody sets their oil price beyond either contracting it in the offered pricing,,, or sell it month to month at the price offered/paid,,,, and you don’t even know what that price is going to be exactly until you get a run statement from the gather and/or purchaser,,,, the next month,,, after you have already sold and its delivered to them.
If you want to talk to someone about price I suggest you familiarize yourself with the Chicago board of Trade and the futures traders therein and globally. Doing favors is not one of their strong points though.
I have been in the oil production industry for 50 years. Of course, no one gives the “oil patch owners” a lick of credit or a dime of help during the lean years when oil is dirt cheap and our labor and services pool is decimated. Favors don’t happen,,,, perhaps unintended consequences.
I recently retired from an oil refinery….25 years…we can’t refine much ‘sweet’ crude which is what we produce…our oil refineries are constructed to refine ‘sour’ crude…..and there is a very large difference x the two.
My opinion is that USA should only export finished petroleum products…..but….

I have not changed my mind that the most significant address which President Trump has ever delivered was that to the gathering of the Arab nations on his first foreign trip to Saudi Arabia in February, 2017.

The other thing which struck me was his delivery of this magnificent speech.
He was speaking to Arab world leaders, whose command in general of the English language was most likely patchy. And in knowing that translators were, well, translating as he spoke, he moderated his speed and enunciated with precision. It was clear that he wanted to get his message across. In that I believe he absolutely succeeded.
I remember listening to it and watching the incredible festivities to honour him. The significance of his choosing Saudi Arabia early on for his first foreign trip was not lost on MbS, or, I suspect, the rest of leaders and dignitaries who attended.
It’s worth either reading or watching. Though I believe you are right. There was power in that address, and he delivered.

I enjoy these Prometheus updates and their views but while the focus here is on Kissinger I have to wonder if the aftermath of Jimmy Carter, 0bama, and Lurch haven’t added to or changed the course of strategy in the ME as well. We are fighting Iran there as radical Islam rises here on our own soil.
Recall that we once rounded up over 120,000 Japanese here following the attack upon Pearl Harbor and today the Democrat party is being taken over by Socialism, Communism and Islamunism and many other ‘isms.
We were very serious about things back at one point, men had nuts and women made sure of it.
Today, look around.
Look at Dearborn MI.
Look at NYC, following 9/11 they now have a Ugandan born whatever he is named Mamdani.
Look at what is happening in ‘Don’t Mess With Texas” and yet they have -and they are progressing.
So the question: are we fighting it all as hard here on our own soil as we are there in Iran?

Could not agree more. My answer would be, “No.” We have a Muslim lieutenant governor and a Muslim state senator now in the VA government. One of them (I believe the Lt Gov) is pushing for a law that makes confronting (verbally) Islam hate speech. The mosque where I live ( I only know of only one) has tripled in size. We have Muslims on street corners on one the busiest roads in the country holding signs saying “Allah is the one true god” or some such drivel. I can see more and more Muslim dress on women when out shopping. I have Muslim kids checking me out at the grocery store. I saw a Muslim man praying on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant he works at (I suppose). None of this was here five years ago. It’s growing rapidly. And I don’t see a damn thing being done about it. Of course, I live in a red turned blue state now so I know nothing will be done at either county or the state level. Iran? Who will care when we’ve become the UK.
The USA will have a very clear choice in the mid terms thanks to the DSA & Trump.
The main Democrat and Republican Parties are being the two wings of the Uniparty. Mainstream Democrats are too scared to go full DSA where many Reps and Senators would actually like to go but they know that is too far Left for most Democrat and independent voters. The mainstream Republicans are either too stupid or corrupt to go where their voters actually want them to go – to the Trump MAGA agenda.
So the battle lines will be defined by Trump and some pro MAGA GOP reps and senators versus the DSA and their reps and Senators. Any Republican, independent or even old school centrist Democrat who sits this election out will risk throwing the USA to the Islamo Communist DSA who are bent on destroying the USA. On the other hand Trump and his small band of MAGA reps and senators are desperately trying to save the USA.
i don’t think it’s hyperbolic to say this is the most important mid terms ever and the next Presidential election will be the second most important Presidential election in 100 years (after the 2024 Trump election).
