Seeming as Brownsville Texas is relatively close to the US-Mexico border they will probably be refining a lot of products for both Mexico and the United States. As to the distribution, that is bit early to tell.
Get rid of the damn ethanol requirements and let more”microbrewers” make regional diesel. For around $20K you can buy a machine that processes veggie oils and discarded frying oil into biodiesel. I was looking into purchasing one but it only makes senses if you can produce more than you need and sell the excess (one pickup truck would take decades to justify the investment). The chemicals aren’t cheap either unless you buy in bulk. But if you had 5-10 friends or farmers buying your fuel it becomes feasible and way less than $5/gallon.
The cost of diesel is ridiculous now. Used to be either less than gasoline or about $.50 more per gallon, not a dollar or more greater. It’s less refined so it shouldn’t cost more to make!

No argument from me on the ethanol. Big AG may differ however.
As an oxygenate ethanol can fulfill that role at a much lower percentage of the mix of fuel then current and arguably is not as necessary with fuel injection and emissions control tech that is already a couple of decades old. Chemistry is not my primary focus though.
As to the diesel, everything for sale on the shelf in the retail stores requires transport, and usually by way of a commercial truck. The cost of diesel is reflected in the prices of everything accordingly.
I run older vehicles with Carburetors, and the ethanol eats the accelerator pump diaphragms. I use Ethanol free fuel in all of them and all my power equipment, and I have not had an issue since. I can leave them all winter with no additives, and everything starts and runs fine.
….plus the types of crude they can run….I would personally like to see no crude exported from USA….only finished/refined products….by the shipload.
There may be hope for that once you strangle the (dubiously) US Chamber of Commerce.
World supply and national supply need to be decoupled, otherwise the price everywhere is set by the highest bidder.
Could be achieved by legislating national baselines of production for domestic, commercial, and gov’t uses. These baselines (which by marginally overshooting demand, ensure stable domestic costs) must be met before any petroleum, raw or otherwise, can be put into the world open market.

From the smallest independent to Exxon,,, nobody sets their oil price beyond either contracting it in the offered pricing,,, or sell it month to month at the price offered/paid,,,, and you don’t even know what that price is going to be exactly until you get a run statement from the gather and/or purchaser,,,, the next month,,, after you have already sold and its delivered to them.
If you want to talk to someone about price I suggest you familiarize yourself with the Chicago board of Trade and the futures traders therein and globally. Doing favors is not one of their strong points though.
I have been in the oil production industry for 50 years. Of course, no one gives the “oil patch owners” a lick of credit or a dime of help during the lean years when oil is dirt cheap and our labor and services pool is decimated. Favors don’t happen,,,, perhaps unintended consequences.

I recently retired from an oil refinery….25 years…we can’t refine much ‘sweet’ crude which is what we produce…our oil refineries are constructed to refine ‘sour’ crude…..and there is a very large difference x the two.
My opinion is that USA should only export finished petroleum products…..but….

Could not agree more. My answer would be, “No.” We have a Muslim lieutenant governor and a Muslim state senator now in the VA government. One of them (I believe the Lt Gov) is pushing for a law that makes confronting (verbally) Islam hate speech. The mosque where I live ( I only know of only one) has tripled in size. We have Muslims on street corners on one the busiest roads in the country holding signs saying “Allah is the one true god” or some such drivel. I can see more and more Muslim dress on women when out shopping. I have Muslim kids checking me out at the grocery store. I saw a Muslim man praying on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant he works at (I suppose). None of this was here five years ago. It’s growing rapidly. And I don’t see a damn thing being done about it. Of course, I live in a red turned blue state now so I know nothing will be done at either county or the state level. Iran? Who will care when we’ve become the UK.

A strange mystery from the opening days of the Iran war has suddenly resurfaced. Qatar is categorically denying Iranian claims that it has been secretly holding three Iranian military pilots for nearly six months.
The case dates back to March, when Iranian Su-24s breached Qatari airspace during operations against targets in the country as Tehran retaliated for the U.S.-Israeli campaign. Iran now claims three pilots survived after their aircraft went down and were captured alive by Qatari forces.

There are quite a few in the Treehouse who have a rah-rah attitude about the Iran war, and it puzzles me. For 9-10 years, Trump rightly criticized our military adventures as wasteful and destructive for our country. “Focus on OUR country and OUR obvious problems” was a theme of his regular criticism. It was a basis for MAGA.
Trump was viciously attacked and sabotaged for his anti-war positions, inside and outside the GOP. But he held firm. And his positions on war were a key leg of his support for 3 campaigns.
Then, just last year, things flipped upside down. Trump began advocating for monstrously large Pentagon budgets. And he started talking and acting as though the ghost of John McCain had possessed him.
As Trump used to know and often say: our country is broke; our middle class is continuing to be hollowed out as our national debt rises; cost of living is a serious problem for most generations; and unnecessary spilling of our blood and treasure in war has been one of our worst problems for 20-30 years.
Many of us stand with the former Trump and have been saddened to see that some ugly pressures must have temporarily made him buckle. Let’s hope and pray that he corrects course. And may those who manipulated him against our country’s interests (and his own) be smitten.
