While small businesses are yearning to open in California, small landlords want to close down but are forced to stay open for tenants unable or unwilling to pay rent, but can’t be evicted due to the forever eviction moratorium.
I only have one house, the one I live in. I have a basement apartment where a family of four lives, who haven’t been paying rent since June because Gov. Newsom, et al, says they don’t have to pay for as long as he pandemic lasts. Fortunately, the bank granted me forbearance for six months on my mortgage, but I still pay the utilities, insurance, taxes, and maintenance while my tenants live rent free.
I’m a 77 year old widow living on a small fixed income. I can’t afford to support this family for another year (SF Ass. David Chiu wants to extend the moratorium until the end of 2021.) I’m not the only small landlord in this situation, but it seems we’re the segment of population most forgotten. We don’t get any refund from the government. We are a collateral damage in this war against the virus.

I believe the people in your home are taking advantage of you, they could be paying you something. So if you move do not tell them until after you’ve already moved out. Move out slowly never breathing a word to anybody. Then have someone one day just come and get the rest of your things AFTER you’re already in your new place out of state. You do not owe them any explanation, they set the rules that way and they could get nasty if you show your cards. So don’t.

I just got back from visiting my son outside of Stockton, CA. I won’t say which town, but all the bars and restaurants are open, hardly anyone wears masks, except for employees, and Trump signs are everywhere. Oh, and you could find recall petitions to sign all over the place. What I didn’t see at all were any Hiden/Heelsup signs or bumper stickers.
In the group of 20 people I know who have had the Covid19 virus, none have had any trouble getting over it on their own. Ages 2 thru 80. 2 kids, 2 teens, 2 in early 40s, remaining 14 in the 60+ age group.
Existing health conditions within the 40s and 60+ groups are: pre diabetes, hypertension, significantly overweight, asthma, and lung damage from agent orange.
Within the group, individual experience with the virus have varied from no symptoms, mild allergies, mild head cold, to having a medium cold with pesky dry cough.
Interesting note about the 2 teens. 1 in Texas and the other in AZ. Both caught the virus at school. Had mild allergy-like symptoms. Both live at home. No masks worn at home. But get this…. neither set of parents got the virus.
I am one of the group. I am now blessed with immunity. I have a positive story to share with anyone who expresses concern that I’m not wearing a mask.
I’m armed with knowledge of AZ and CDC stats in one holster. And a damn good personal story in the other.
I will help those who are simply not seeing the whole picture and also those who are so fearful.

I was talking to a coworker the other day and he told me that when he and his wife go to the store she never wears a mask. I asked him if anybody has ever said anything to her. He said occasionally people will say something but she just says she has CS, holds up her license, and keeps walking. Nobody ever questions her on what CS actually is. They just thought she had some kind of ailment. I asked him what CS stands for and he goes….common sense. Perfect
Love it. I am a nurse and have to wear N-95 12 hours at work. I occasionally “cheat” and drop it down for a drink of water (it’s that or pass out) on my days off I don’t want to go anywhere, because I do not want to wear a mask. My husband refuses to wear one. He does have heart trouble and can’t breath with it, but that doesn’t stop the nasty comments in the stores…not from the workers…but random people who are “holier than thou” because they are “following the rules”. Shaking my head.

Writing from India. People are rather indifferent to rules in general, so while normally that’s not always good, it tends to make them bypass the Covid restrictions creatively.
When only ambulances with sick people were getting a free pass on the road, regular cars would slap on fake hospital worker signs and get through. When most shops except grocery and medical stores were declared non-essential, they shuttered the front and sold out of the back, by word of mouth, or began selling groceries and medical supplies themselves.
Unfortunately, huge fines and jail terms deterred these sorts of workarounds for other things, like social distancing and masks.
I haven’t used one in a store yet, but I have to on public transport or a plane. Full disclosure, I find somewhat irksome the idea of a[nother] protest/rally in DC on the 6th to show support for PT, as if we haven’t already shown support with our 80+ million votes. It is irksome because, like this restaurant owner says, much of Main Street America has been economically destroyed by this pandemic, of dubious provenance and overt corruption. To now expect those who have been thusly destroyed to somehow come up with not an insignificant amount of money to travel cross country for a protest of voter solidarity that will mean absolutely nothing to the elite insiders who already know the outcome of the next election seems, at best, pointless, to put it mildly.
Certainly the following idea has been broached elsewhere, so forgive the likely redundancy. But it seems to me a better use of everyone’s time and money if those of us who are able to travel would do so not to DC, but to a lockdown state and spend a day, or days, supporting any and all businesses that are still allowed a modicum of operation. Instead of DC, go to CA and spend a weekend eating at any restaurant that is open in defiance of orders. Go to Michigan and get your hair cut at any barber shop doing the same, etc. And tip big.
I’m not just talking about citizens of these states. Everyone who can travel should do this. Instead of a worthless protest that will fall on deaf ears in DC, let’s offer our support to those who might then be encouraged to join a larger, more meaningful protest. To me this seems the best way of letting our fellow patriots know they are not alone in this endeavor. Call it an…

I basically agree with most of what you’re saying and the spirit of what you’re saying. But…just so you understand, the rioting and insurrection antifa and black lives matter did all IT GOT THEM WAS NO WHERE. All they did was cause destruction, even of themselves.
