And yet Jesus said what He said a about loving one’s enemies and praying for persecutors, followed by other similar Scriptures in the New Testament. David was an anointed king and military leader chosen by God to help establish an earthly kingdom and defend it against literal attacks from physical enemies.
What was called for as far as the downfall and punishment of those opposed to that earthly kingdom and to God and His will and plans related to that, while certainly carrying spiritual meanings as well — including as they relate to future judgments. In a letter to the Romans and a church he had evidently not founded, Paul referred to an Old Testament verse that vengeance is God’s (cf. Romans. 12:19). This came amidst encouragement from him that they bless and not curse those persecuting them (cf. Romans 12:14). All of this serves as necessary context as to why believers today are still to love their enemies and pray for their persecutors according to the will of God.
This Psalm is in the first place about Judas and what he did to Jesus. Secondarily it is also appropriate for the body of Christ to ask him to arise and strike down his enemies. Early on in the Trump Presidency, many of us prayed for the corruption in government to be revealed. We received a reply that was more than we could ask or imagine. Now it is time to ask for the corruption to be destroyed. Part of that is praying that there would be some faithful ones who would step up and expose what they know, to do it fearlessly even at great cost. So far a handful have. Ask God to convert those who will be converted and to restrain and remove from power those who will not.
Thank you for causing me to learn a new word today…

As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark.…
And they were oblivious, until the flood came and swept them all away. So will it be at the coming of the Son of Man.…
If old Noah could come back and look around, I think he’d see a lot that would remind him of his former digs.
We are almost there. The violence and corruption is becoming a continual roar. Israel is back in the land, and that land has become a garden again, just as Ezekiel said. The nations that come against Israel in Ezekiel 38/39 are all on friendly terms amongst themselves; that invasion could come any time.
The door to the ark was opened for days at a time, until God’s time; then, the door was closed by God. Only then did His judgment begin. Anyone could have entered the ark before then; there was room enough for more, but Noah was a nut, so they thought. He was mocked by these people for 120 years as he built the ark. Jesus Himself said Noah “preached to the dead”; that is, the walking, breathing worldly souls who had zero interest in spiritual things, and so were destined for spiritual death. (Know anyone like that?)
The door closed and the rains began, and all those mockers tried to get in then. Too late. Today is the day, this is the hour, because you don’t know what will befall you tomorrow. Not by water this time.
yes. No more floods. God’s promise. but fire. God being merciful, it is very difficult to understand that there isn’t a little window at the last hour yet to choose since God is more than able to impart all wisdom, knowledge and graces; in less than an instant as we understand it in our limited human understanding. For this hope alone part of every day life praying for all sinners before the Last Judgment to be saved.according to God who knows the heart. In gratitude that knows nothing can repay this Mercy – His Son Jesus for His sacrifice. He knows this sinner as He does all, who are to whatever degree each is; God’s Work not ours. I can’t accept that any one is destined for eternal death because of ignorance – i.e. as St Paul preached when we were young, but now we are ‘grown’, we know … late than never.

Matthew 5:43–48 (NKJV)
Jesus Said
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
The devil and his demons are beyond redemption, because they were originally in the presence of the Lord and experienced His goodness and holiness. They turned their backs on Him and lost their “first estate”.
We pray for deliverance FROM Satan (sin is evil) because we know that we cannot defeat him in a game of one-on-one; nor do we trust our weak faith. We gladly pray the prayer of realists, the prayer of weaklings, for that is what we are. “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” For what fear does a man have in this life, if his Deliverer from Evil in this life is God? And He is not merely our God, but our Father.
Amen!

It is OK to pray precatory prayers. Seems that imprecatory prayers are against God’s enemies, oppressers. It is to the vanquishing of the enemies of God. Oppressers. We pray against satan and his demons. It also can lead to the cross of Jesus and to the love of God which forgives enemies. Paul made it clear that anyone who teaches against God’s Word, he should be cursed. Also, if anyone has no love for God (as seen by his fruits as well as words) he should be cursed. The imprecatory prayers are requesting that God be the judge. Imprecatory psalms are the songs of the oppressed, always prayed from a position of vulnerability and weakness, not dominance or triumphalism. “the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might” (2 Thes. 1:7–9), which will result in “blood (flowing) from the wine press, as high as a horse’s bridle, for (184 miles)” (Revelation 14:20). “steadfastness and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions that you are enduring” since “God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you” (2 Thessalonians 1:4–6).
Pray them first against Satan.
Pray them second against your sinful nature.
Pray them third against the world systems of corruption and oppression.
Pray them lastly against enemies, God’s then yours.
Again, bear in mind what was prayed by the first post-ascension martyr documented in Scripture. He had just rebuked in truth those who would then turn and kill him or who approved of that. He was certainly in a position of vulnerability and weakness, yet it remains telling that he did not turn to God in his moments of oppression asking for vengeance but instead asking the following, echoing what Christ said on the cross:
“And as they were stoning Stephen, he was calling out and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” And having fallen on his knees, he cried in a loud voice, ‘Lord, do not place this sin to them.’ And having said this, he fell asleep” (Acts 7:59-60).
There will be time enough for judgment from God, and it is good to ask for help and prayers of deliverance from enemies etc. as well as to stand against their actions. Nevertheless, all that has been cited from Scripture as far as praying for the people involved remains.

Then again….
“Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.”
Jeremiah 11:14
There is a lot more to that although Jeremiah 11:14, 14:11-12, 15:1 are most quoted to support the notion of not praying for
people in the world. Some feel John 17:9, a prayer of Jesus Himself, indicates it would be wrong to pray for people of the world. A few details in the passages from Jeremiah may be surprising. For instance,
God tells Jeremiah the same thing three times—do not pray for them. If
Jeremiah had quit praying for them after His first admonition, God would not
need to repeat the command. Obviously, then, Jeremiah continued to pray for
his countrymen!
The passage in Jeremiah 15:1 is interesting. To paraphrase, God is saying,
“Jeremiah, I know Moses prayed for the nation when I was about to blot them
out. I know Samuel promised to continue to pray for the nation. But this time it
will be different. My will is set this time. No amount of praying for them will
change My will this time. So don’t bother!” (See Exodus 32; Numbers 16:41-50; I
Samuel 12:19-23.) Jeremiah prays for the nation because of the examples of
other prophets before him. Yet, God is gently telling Jeremiah that He hears
his prayers for the nation, but this time the answer is a firm “no.”
God hears our prayers, but when He changes what He says He will do, it is
because He wills to change. We have no power to make God change His
direction, but we should feel free to ask according to His will. Perhaps our
fervent prayers will cause God to reconsider what He is about to do. God
decides whether and when He will change, after He hears us. He can choose to
change His own mind—and He has changed His mind—after fervent prayers on
many occasions. Moses’ prayers, the prayers of the Ninevites, and many other
examples in the Bible testify that He will change. In this case, though, God is
simply explaining to Jeremiah that this time, in this circumstance, He will not
alter His course of action.
Most dramatic of all are the examples and admonitions of our Master and
Teacher, Jesus Christ. For instance, as He walks up to Jerusalem, instead of
thinking of His own impending suffering and death, He thinks of His
countrymen: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and
stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children
together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not
willing!” (Luke 13:34).
How then can we explain John 17:9? Jesus gives the prayer in John 17
specifically for His disciples and for a specific reason. It was not the time to
pray for any other than His disciples. However, this does not mean that Jesus
never prayed for anyone but a disciple!
If we are supposed to pray only for converted brethren but not for our
unconverted countrymen, how can we follow Jesus’ many other examples and
commands about this topic? For example, Matthew 5:44-45, 48:
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to
those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute
you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun
rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the
unjust. . . . Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is
perfect.

God knows ahead of time who will rule a given nation and those rulers exist under His sovereign control. Regardless of whether the particular ruler is evil or good, God has control of the person in charge of every nation. This applies to all under the person in charge. There is no party as far as God is concerned. Jesus’ own words to give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar applies to all government heads, and to God what belongs to God is our duty in honoring God who we revere and obey – simply live as we believe, not talk. It is very difficult to walk the walk, but surely, God’s Hand is not too short to save? God will not deny us what graces we need to walk the walk. In God’s own time? Created creatures we are do not honor God when we specify what we ask God to do. “Thy Will be done” – again in Jesus’ own words teaching us the only prayer we need to pray directly to the Father, trusting He hears and knows every prayer. No prayer is too small or insignificant. But ‘after God’s Will’, ‘in God’s own Time”. In the Bible, there are many examples of evil rulers, yet God ultimately controlled their rules and the outcomes. Hold on to the promise “every knee will bend .. ” How else is God’s coming not as promised? God’s Mercy extends time for conversion and we are to pray for the forgiveness and conversion of all sinners; first that we ourselves as sinners should pray for the graces and for forgiveness in those prayers.
For example, Pharaoh sought to keep the Israelites as slaves, even when God sent Moses to tell him to let them go. Despite Pharaoh’s evil oppression, God’s will prevailed.
The book of Judges offers many examples of times when God’s people lived under oppression, cried out for help, and then were given new leadership raised up by God.
When the Israelites asked for a king like the other nations, God sent Samuel to anoint Saul as king. Though he began well, he later rebelled against the Lord and died in battle (1 Samuel 31).
God chose David, a man after His own heart, as the next king after Saul. Despite many hardships, David became the king of all Israel, becoming the first Israelite king to have his own son rule after him, King Solomon.
Later, God raised up a pagan leader named King Cyrus who allowed the Jews to return to their homeland as the prophets had predicted.
In the New Testament, Jesus answered the question of paying taxes by teaching, “‘Show me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?’ They said, ‘Caesar’s.’ He said to them, ‘Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s'” (Luke 20:24-25). Jesus clearly noted that earthly rulers were given certain powers, but God held ultimate power. Another example of this is found when King Herod sought to kill Jesus when He was an infant, only to have God send angels to warn the wise men and the family of Jesus in advance (Matthew 2:1-18).
The early church also encountered much opposition from governing leaders. Herod (a descendant of the Herod mentioned above) put James to death and sought to kill Peter. Peter miraculously escaped and Herod soon died as a judgment from God (Acts 12). Governing authorities also persecuted the apostle Paul for his faith, though God used it to spread the gospel message to many (Philippians 1).
God may not reveal the reasons for certain evil leaders being in power, but He does use such evil leaders to accomplish His will. He has also provided numerous biblical examples of how He ultimately controls and limits the evil a tyrant can yield, and promises a future day when He will ultimately provide judgment and rule as King (Revelation 21-22).

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.
The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.
Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, […]
Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, […]?
But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.

Does that mean we should pray for the devil and his kingdom? Hardly. “Deliver us from Evil.”
The devil and his demons are beyond redemption, because they were originally in the presence of the Lord and experienced His goodness and holiness. They turned their backs on Him and lost their “first estate”.
Not so with us. And boy, am I glad of that!

Just a thought on how to pray for this design, in classical Latin.

The passage in Jeremiah 15:1 is interesting. To paraphrase, God is saying,
“Jeremiah, I know Moses prayed for the nation when I was about to blot them

will be different. My will is set this time. No amount of praying for them will

At this point, Kamala Harris would replace Joe Biden, should he be unable to finish his term. I PRAY that doesn’t come to pass.
MY prayer is for GOP majorities won in the HoR and Senate in 2022, and a Trump re-election in 2024.
Pray that he succumbs to the disease that he has.
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
