A rather remarkable statement from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick puts the Canadian government on notice. If Lutnick is accurately outlining what took place, there’s no way Trump is going to give them a trade deal.
When he is questioned about the U.S-Canada trade agreement collapse, Secretary Lutnick quotes the Canadian govt officials. “I said to him, are you trying to blow this up? and he said, and I quote, “I’m not allowed to say that.“” Lutnick then encapsulates what that response meant.
“They decided for political reasons, domestically, domestic Canada, they’d rather fight with Donald Trump; even if it’s bad for the economy of Canada, for their political ambition to get a certain election,” Lutnick noted. He continued, “now remember, Quebec has the sovereign party was in the lead, so that’s why they came up with this French nonsense. You think the American side talked about how people speak in Quebec? We have a deal with France, we have a deal with Italy, we have a deal with Germany, we don’t care about their language; none of that was true.” WATCH (prompted):

I am thinking of those dear “pioneer spirit” type people I met when I had a temporary part-time job to supplement the cut-back in hours at my regular job . . . these wonderful people from Canada came down apparently every year to spend about three months at this hotel where I worked at the front desk (reservations, daily audit, keys, etc.) . . . they would walk all the way from this place at one end of Palm Desert all the way over to the weekly street fair at the College of the Desert and then they would walk back all the way perhaps on El Paseo which I thought was a pretty darn good walk for people in their late eighties and early nineties! I would comment on how amazed I was at their hardiness and they would just brush it off with a smile, “oh, that’s just like a walk down to the mailbox back home, eh” . . .
I have some ancestors who were born in Belfast and went to Ontario, Canada and settled in Peterborough where they had a farm – those great-great grandparents had ten children who all grew to ripe old ages – when they decided to make the move to the United States to buy a farm in Nebraska, they came by covered wagon and they needed three wagons for everything, everyone.

I have been buying from NEWEGG, an electronics company, since they were founded in 2001. They are basically a Chinese company.
Their products initially shipped from California then they expanded to East coast shipments.

Rubber bushing is the critical component in control arms and rubber was junk. I returned them and ordered Mevotech – a long trusted Canadian brand. Made in China – junk rubber, so I had to send them back.
Its close to $2000 labor to replace all and none would have gone even 20K miles. Next I ordered Moog parts – reputable US brand. They were made in Taiwan but OEM quality.
This is supply chain insanity – it is literally a chuck of aluminum with two rubber bushings. Quality control is essential. These could be made in America at half the cost and better than OEM.

A number of commentors here are prognosticating that President Trump will wait until after the mid-terms to terminate the USMCA. The argument being that it deprives the democrats of a potentially divisive campaign issue to run on. With respect, I believe this is precisely why President Trump will announce that he is ending the agreement sooner rather than later. President Trump thrives on messaging conflicts like this because in his heart, he believes that he will win. I think it unlikely that President Trump will do anything to distract from the upcoming September 11th remembrances. I’d look for the announcement on or about September 17th, “Constitution Day”.

Keep in mind that there are a number of Canadian exports that don’t have to be Canadian exports. They could be Argentinian exports or Chile exports. With the significant number of South American countries voting for the right side of the aisle, it opens up better trade opportunities. It gives the White House leverage. As as example, I’d use Potash. It’s a big export from Canada, but it doesn’t have to be. Same with rare earth elements. That’s a big one coming from Canada. But it doesn’t have to be. Argentina holds significant rare earth elements and critical metal resources. Chile holds significant Potash, and Argentina is expediting their industry development on that as well.

There are a lot of citizens in other countries that are envious of our founding documents right now.
