Suffice to say Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has extended the sanctions waiver on Russian oil and gas for another 30-days. {citation}

The OFAC waiver targets Russian oil/gas that was loaded onto floating storage platforms as of April 17, 2026. The destination of the oil/gas will primarily be China, India and Southeast Asia; westbound Arctic supply route. The general license means all of the ASEAN countries can purchase in dollars and provides Russia with an exchange for the same currency valuation. Once again, Zelenskyy -and Europe- will not be happy.
There is a certain irony in Europe previously banning the import of Russian oil/gas (EU sanctions) and now, when they desperately need it, the supply is flowing in the opposite direction. Both Russia’s Arctic I and Arctic II platforms are operating to produce the supply; however, as many readers here will note they coincidentally :::nudge, nudge – wink, wink::: started pumping supply to “on the water” storage for six months prior to the beginning of the Iran conflict. This is the third U.S. waiver of sanctions.

FWIW, I’d discount any reports from the MSM or from the MAGA splitters who post podcasts daily. They’re usually off-base, not accurate.
This is not a good situation, but a lot of colleges have closed around me and many more are clearly in decline and the ripple effects upon our local economy are clear. So what the before and after looks like around me is clear and it’s not good.
This is reality.
You have to think in terms of ‘managed decline’ to avoid a nation wide massive, sudden crash and burn.
No, all these Chinese students are not good, but they also are paying the full ride to these colleges that like it or not, are the entire economic engine to the many towns and cities across the country where they are located.
A lot of these colleges are not going to make it, but we need that failing process to happen slowly.
AND some are seeing the writing on the wall and need to pay the bills long enough to change gears and make necessary changes to survive it. Our local college is doing this right now. This isn’t fast, quick and easy transitions but many are trying.
We cannot look at this entirely through one single lens. These colleges are also jobs to thousands of people.
The President also cares a whole lot about the economy.
Allowing a college to close down is akin to allowing a factory to close down in many areas across the country- as I’ve seen out in rural Vermont. When that college closed, the whole town is out of a job.
In many places these are the only places to work..
I’m thinking that although he’s allowed in these Chinese college students, they are also being very closely watched- unlike what went on during the Biden path of destruction.
Once there are manufacturing jobs available all of these colleges will no longer be the only employer in the towns and cities across the country. Making concrete objects people want to own is much more satisfying than shuffling paper even if the computer is involved.
Colleges used to measure success by whether or not they taught their graduates to think clearly. Now many or even most are indoctrination centers teaching their graduates not to think. Their decline is because those who can think don’t see any value in what they are offering.
The Chinese have been sending students to the US for many decades. The universities have some blame here as these students would be paying room and board as well. Lots of stories of Americans unable to enroll as the universities increased foreign enrollment quotas which made them more $$
