We accept that this time of year looks different for everyone. Our hope is the Christmas season brings you moments of celebration, rest, reflection, joy and spiritual connection. Whatever Christmas looks like for you, and in whatever form feels right for you, Merry Christmas.
From the email ‘Patthenavybrat’ conveys a Christmas message via a true story as told by Willy Eagle: “Because of Love“.
“A brother and sister had made their usual hurried, obligatory pre-Christmas visit to the little farm where dwelt their elderly parents with their small herd of horses. The farm was where they had grown up and had been named Lone Pine Farm because of the huge pine, which topped the hill beside the farm.
Through the years the tree had become a talisman to the old man and his wife, and a landmark in the countryside. The young siblings had fond memories of their childhood here, but the city hustle and bustle added more excitement to their lives, and called them away to a different life.
The old folks no longer showed the horses, for the years had taken their toll, and getting out to the barn on those frosty mornings was getting harder, but it gave them a reason to get up in the mornings and a reason to live. They sold a few foals each year, and the horses were their reason for joy in the morning and contentment at day’s end.
Angry, as they prepared to leave, the young couple confronted the old folks “Why do you not at least dispose of The Old One. She is no longer of use to you. It’s been years since you’ve had foals from her. You should cut corners and save so you can have more for yourselves. How can this old worn-out horse bring you anything but expense and work? Why do you keep her anyway?”
“The old man looked down at his worn boots, holes in the toes, scuffed at the barn floor and replied, “Yes, I could use a pair of new boots. His arm slid defensively about the Old One’s neck as he drew her near with gentle caressing he rubbed her softly behind the ears. He replied, we keep her because of love. Nothing else, just love.”
Baffled and irritated, the young folks wished the old man and his wife a Merry Christmas and headed back toward the city as darkness stole through the valley. The old couple shook their heads in sorrow that it had not been a happy visit. A tear fell upon their cheeks. How is it that these young folks do not understand the peace of the love that filled their hearts?
So it was, that because of the unhappy leave-taking, no one noticed the insulation smoldering on the frayed wires in the old barn. None saw the first spark fall. None but the “Old One.”
In a matter of minutes, the whole barn was ablaze, and the hungry flames were licking at the loft full of hay. With a cry of horror and despair, the old man shouted to his wife to call for help as he raced to the barn to save their beloved horses. But the flames were roaring now, and the blazing heat drove him back.
He sank sobbing to the ground, helpless before the fire’s fury. His wife back from calling for help cradled him in her arms, clinging to each other, they wept at their loss.
By the time the fire department arrived, only smoking, glowing ruins were left, and the old man and his wife, exhausted from their grief, huddled together before the barn. They were speechless as they rose from the cold snow covered ground. They nodded thanks to the firemen as there was nothing anyone could do now.
The old man turned to his wife, resting her white head upon his shoulders as his shaking old hands clumsily dried her tears with a frayed red bandana…brokenly he whispered, “we have lost much, but God has spared our home on this eve of Christmas. Let us gather strength and climb the hill to the old pine where we have sought comfort in times of despair. We will look down upon our home and give thanks to God that it has been spared and pray for our beloved most precious gifts that have been taken from us.
And so, he took her by the hand and slowly helped her up the snowy hill as he brushed aside his own tears with the back of his old and withered hand.
The journey up the hill was hard for their old bodies in the steep snow. As they stepped over the little knoll at the crest of the hill, they paused to rest, looking up to the top of the hill the old couple gasped and fell to their knees in amazement at the incredible beauty before them.
Seemingly, every glorious, brilliant star in the heavens was caught up in the glittering, snow-frosted branches of their beloved pine, and it was aglow with heavenly candles. And poised on its top most bough, a crystal crescent moon glistened like spun glass. Never had a mere mortal created a Christmas tree such as this. They were breathless as the old man held his wife tighter in his arms.
Suddenly, the old man gave a cry of wonder and incredible joy. Amazed and mystified, he took his wife by the hand and pulled her forward. There, beneath the tree, in resplendent glory, a mist hovering over and glowing in the darkness was their Christmas gift. Shadows glistening in the night light.
Bedded down about the “Old One” close to the trunk of the tree, was the entire herd, safe.
At first hint of smoke, she had pushed the door ajar with her muzzle and had led the horses through it. Slowly and with great dignity, never looking back, she had led them up the hill, stepping cautiously through the snow. The foals were frightened and dashed about. The skittish yearlings looked back at the crackling, hungry flames, and tucked their tails under them as they licked their lips and hopped like rabbits. The mares that were in foal with a new years crop of babies, pressed uneasily against the “Old One” as she moved calmly up the hill and to safety beneath the pine. And now, she lay among them and gazed at the faces of the old man and his wife. Those she loved had not disappointed. Her body was brittle with years, tired from the climb, but the golden eyes were filled with devotion as she offered her gift—
Because of love. Only because of love.
Tears flowed as the old couple shouted their praise and joy…And again the peace of love filled their hearts.”
“Because of Love”
This year, perhaps due to division or diminishment of real things of value, the reading of this beautiful story lands a little differently. This year as I was sent this story, the metaphor it creates brings with it a different type of contemplation.
Perhaps it does for you also.
You know, it’s funny, but the current nature of life reminds me of an LP record being played at 45 speeds. I think many of us can remember forgetting to change the setting after a 45 and laughing at how the LP sounded like the Chipmunks until we changed it.
The hurriedness of things always swirling; the anxious drivers with less patience, unable to explain why. The endless quest to gain the biggest slice of life’s economic pie, now combined with endless comparisons delivered to the Instagram generation reminding them of everything they lack.
The thing that’s missing is not a thing.
You have value. Real, incredible value.
If you find yourself stuck, thinking about what gift to get for the person who doesn’t need much. Or, if you just want to change the Christmastime dynamic for those around you; well, give them what’s missing….
… It’s not a thing.
Fill the void.
Give them what’s missing.
…. It’s not a thing.
With love,
Merry Christmas!

❤️
Although we’ve never met, you have sincerely touched my heart many times over the years. Bless you, and Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, Sundance! Scripture says a merry heart is mighty medicine medicine! This is the best I have read over the holidays! Perfect! I sent it out to over 50 people—including those in Europe. Thank you again and again!
I long to be so faith filled and trusting in GOD’s plan, that I would have the first instinct of being grateful for what is left, after such incredible loss, that happens in our lives.
It would be the greatest achievement of my life, to recognize the purity and simplicity of Heavenly Father, who is true Love and just rest my heart and life into His Divine Providence, for all the moments I have left here, before judgement.
His plans and His ways are not like ours. Amen.
I pray this beautiful Christmas Day, to Heavenly Father, for the grace, for us all here, to experience that higher love, that only comes from You. And to recognize it in new and small ways.
When we are being the best version of ourselves, we are being that best version to others around us. Grant us this desire, My Lord and My GOD.
Peace, safety and love, Sundance.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”—John 3:16
This might be the single most popular Bible verse in the history of Christian evangelism. It’s so familiar to us that it’s easy to forget the earth shattering, soul changing, history bending consequences of the truth in that verse.
Jesus was born in a world filled with violence, cruelty, and slavery. His birth, life, ministry, death and resurrection changed this world forever.
We still have the same evils today that existed 2000 years ago because all humans are broken by sin. The Big Change brought about by Jesus Christ is that we now have a Savior.
Jesus’ victory over sin and death gave us the gift of salvation. Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Without the birth, life, death and resurrection, there would never have been a Great Awakening in the mid-1700’s, a Declaration of Independence, a Constitution, a Bill of Rights, and a Constitutional Republic built on the Christian principle that our rights are given to us by God (not the State) and that government’s only legitimate purpose is to safeguard those rights. The Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God mandate this arrangement.
Without the birth of Jesus and the subsequent founding of Christ’s religion, there would have been no Christian Pilgrims establishing government on this continent.
There wouldn’t have been any Christian Founding Fathers to create the first government EVER based upon individual liberty and the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.
We live in a world today just as cruel and violent as the world Jesus was born in. Today, though, we have God’s promise that, if we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and repent of our sins, then we will receive God’s glorious blessings for all eternity.
May we be ever mindful of God’s perfect love, mercy and judgment. May we be ever thankful for the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ in a manger 2000 years ago, for His resurrection from the death of the cross, and for His glorious gift of salvation to all who
have faith in Him.
This hit hard. My oldest daughter has TDS and has cut us out of her life because we voted for Trump, so I’ve been a weepy mess. This Christmas has been difficult. We love and miss her and pray she comes to her senses before it’s too late.
Lord, let me be Love to someone who needs it today.
God bless you Joy. My brother and sister both stopped talking to me because of politics. Just within the last year we have reconnected in a loving way, even though we still disagree on politics.
The reconnecting had nothing to do with me; it was all done by God and the changes he made in all three of our hearts. Especially my heart, if I’m being honest. Our God specializes in miracles.
God bless you and your family Joy Galt!
TDS is quite popular in today’s society! I have 2 sisters that hate Trump! Been a decade since we’ve conversed! I asked not to discuss politics but it always ends up being a subject! Why is it that it only seems like Democrats can hate? I never liked Biden but we still carried on in talks ’til Trump came along! I’ve become MAGA while they live Uni Party!
when conversation veers to toxic politics I usually advocate changing the subject to 1960s films
with attractive leading ladies such as Sophia Loren, Claudia Cardinale, and Gina Lollobrigida
renown for her 21-inch waist, shown notably to good advantage in the film Trapeze (1956)
also starring the manly, square-jawed Burt Lancaster, who should please women viewers
Loved that movie as a child!
That’s good IF the person you’re trying to talk to will stop talking about politics. Everything always gets back to “orange man bad” no matter the subject. 😕
Yes. No matter how much I asked her not to talk politics, she couldn’t stop herself. She can’t focus on our commonalities, only onher hatred for all things Trump. 🥺
Be that Love for your daughter. If she has voice mail on her phone, call her – even if she answers not and leave her a simple message – “Wanted to let you know we still love you dearly, and always will.”
As God does for us, so too should we do for others – love them and let them know we do no matter what they may think, say, or do – for truly the greatest of all is Love.
Christmas is about love – the love of God for all humanity, a love so great He gave His only begotten son, that we all might have salvation. A love so great that Christ took upon himself the unimaginable burden of all humanity’s sins throughout time upon Himself in one soul bending instant upon the cross, that we might live.
I once took Christmas decorations no longer needed here to the Prince of Peace center near me. I said to the elderly man who took them from me, “I hope I’m not too late.” He said “Its NEVER TOO LATE.” His words have stayed with me ever since.
I’ve been in the same boat this past year, but not with a daughter. Your daughter may be rejecting you now, but stay strong. She will need your love again. This is inevitable. At least I think so.
I believe humanity is living in very dangerous times.: mentally and emotionally. Thanks to social media there appears to me at least many humans who have lost their minds due to CV19 and TDS. This was, most likely, a plan coming from a deep a deeply disturbed faction of humanity.
You gave me love today with your post. Thank You!
There is a quote from the movie Avatar that I think I’ve set the record for watching after my Mother passed away. The leader of the tribe says “We will cure your insanity.”
I pray for everyone who is insane in these times. I really do.
Thank you for your kind words and prayers!
Joy, I am in the same boat with my granddaughter who has cut all ties to her family for voting for President Trump. I pray daily that the Lord will lead her back to Him…and to us. I don’t understand the pure hatred that fills people who are generally good Christian folks. It is obvious that Satan knows his time is nearing. He is trying to take as many souls as possible with him. I continue to put my faith and trust in the Lord. He is the ONLY one that can save us. With love and best wishes to all my fellow treepers.
Christmas did not look as bright to me this year with a spouse in the hospital and therapy and me getting plantar fascitis from walking those long hospital corridors. Somehow, by Christmas day today, we found ourselves homebound and quietly discussing our commitment and love to each other. Suffering often leads to unexpected outcomes and the most important things come to the fore.
Peace on earth and goodwill to mankind…
May God continue to bless you. You will have many Treepers praying for you today.
Thanks!
Absolutely cherish every minute together. There will come a time when one of you won’t be there and those precious memories will be all that remain of your time together.
So true, I can’t imagine the loneliness that would result from that. My granddaughters husband made a comment to me over the holidays that Jesus said that we would not be in the married state after glorification but that disappointed him some. I am glad he has a great marriage 🙂 I told him that I understand that Heaven is so wonderful that we really won’t be disappointed in any way at all 🙂 We WILL know each other there…
My husband gets plantar fasciitis.
Don’t know if it will help, but…
What helps him is
he sits in a chair,
places a golf ball under his foot,
and rolls the golf ball back & forth with his foot.
I have heard of that.
Toe Spreaders fixed my severe plantar faciatis. Biopsies at University of PA showed dead tissue, no inflammation. Conventional treatments do not reflect those findings, and I found great info on the internet. Now, I can even go barefoot! Also, flat shoes with no toe spring.
Thanks for the info
Blessings to you both!
For the plantar fasciitis, it’s caused by tight calf muscles. Try stretching your calf muscles as often as possible.
Stand on a step with your heels hanging down. Hold on the railing. Lower your heels until you get a nice stretch and hold 20-30 seconds. Repeat 3 to 5 times.
You can also go from a dropped heel to a raised one to strengthen your muscles.
I have a Packers Brett Favre jersey hanging in my closet. I wear it for every game.
His tweet brings me great joy.

Beautiful truth!!
Wow! What incredible insight. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful. Thank you. Thank God.
This is beautiful. Thank you for sharing, and a very Merry Christmas to you.
The abbreviation Xmas goes back centuries.
“Xmas” comes from the Greek letter Chi (Χ), the first letter of Christos (Christ).
“Christ’s Mass,” is Christian holiday celebrating Jesus’ birth, with the “X” representing Christ and “Mas” the Mass.
Merry Christmas, Ya’ll
So lovely. Thank You.
Shortly before Christmas, my husband of 40 years became desperately ill from eating a rotisserie chicken. His kidneys failed and he was taken to hospital where we thought he might die. But God was good and the staff were wonderful and the three antibiotics they gave him were effective. So he came home for Christmas – weak but alive. The best Christmas we’ve ever had!
my sympathy for your and husband’s travail, Paula
bought at a supermarket or a roadside grilling operation or county fair or farmers market?
in Hawaii, charity groups set up roadside grilling operations with proceeds going to their charity
but they’re also available at supermarkets, Costco, etc
It sounds to me like aspiration pneumonia @ Paula. The only time I ever got severe reflux is when I ate rotisserie chicken, specifically. It happened more than once, so I assume it has to do with the soft texture of the meat. First it got lodged in the esophagus (very painful!) and then it worked its way back out.
In any event, thank God your husband has since recovered! In the spirit of Sundance’s post, what a merry Christmas this will be for one and all!
Thank you, Sundance, for sharing daily with all of us your wisdom, guidance, faith, and indomitable faith in God and our Republic.
May your Christmas be Merry and your New Year be filled with the best of all good things. 🎄🙏🎆
Oh my heart!! As a vinyl collector your description sounds right to me. I sent this to my new-ish neighbors who had to put their old one down this summer. They thanked me with tears and a deeper appreciation for me as an animal lover but non horse person. Thank you SD!
I’ve been thinking all day, looking in vain for beloved regular stalwarts whom we haven’t seen for a long while…and it weighs heavily…
Maquis
Patience
Jinxy Cat…
I pray that their absence is impermanent. And on Christmas I offer a pleading prayer to Almighty God that He keep close watch over all three of these beautiful souls who are very much missed. There are others whom I know but who comment infrequently and whom I have kept my eye out for also…alas. And so for them I also ask that He cover them with His protection 🙏🏻
I hope in the New Year we will find them all still in their branches…by our Father’s grace 🙏🏻
At the end of this joyous day I wanted to wish Merry Christmas to every Treeper…here or absent 💕
You are not alone Betsy.
Especially miss Menagerie.
Very much, Monti.
I miss Dutchman. Always insightful, thoughtful, and/or inspiring. God bless him too.
Yeah, my eyes welled up. Great Christmas story!
Merry Christmas to everybody at CTH, including the treepers here in the comment section. Who knows how many times we’ve passed each other on the street without knowing, or will ever know? In any case, whoever or wherever you are, I’m glad you’re a part of the treehouse.
Oh thank you for this story. I was hoping as I read it that it would turn out the way it did.
Anyone else remember what “horse sense” means?
I recall a black and white telly show maybe called ” The Famous Mr. Ed.” A talking horse. He was not a donkey, if you catch my drift.
There is still an hour or so, or many years to hold gratitude in my heart for this glorious Christmas Day. God Bless.
Thank you for sharing this Sundance. And Merry Christmas. You have prepared a place here that has become a home – with truth, instruction, nurturing, safety, and full of Faith, Hope, and Love.
I love the fellow patriots here. We are at least based against the giant cabal know as the deep state or Washington DC district. God bless and Merry Christmas.
God bless you S:undance for this beautiful reminder packaged so carefully. God bless you Sundance and yes all my fellow treehouse brothers and sisters who search for the truth and freedom.
Merry Christmas to all… 🎄🎄🎄
and to all a goodnight! 😚💤
Wow. Love conquers all.
Today I read Christmas sermon by Alister Hunt. I don’t know who he is. But here is the sermon. I hope you like it as much as I do.
Christmas, Children and the Clash of Kingdoms
There is a part of the Christmas story that is never depicted on Christmas cards or in the art hung in churches. In Christmas sermons and Nativity plays, an essential aspect of the story is overlooked. This neglected scene within the opening act of Matthew’s Gospel reveals a profound reality: The clash of kingdoms plays out prominently in the fate of children.
The Hidden Battle in the Christmas Story
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem during the reign of King Herod, Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem. These Gentile seekers had followed a brilliant star, proclaiming, “Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star when it rose and have come to worship Him.” Although Herod ruled only as a vassal king — with tyrannical methods and little claim to true kingship — the notion of another “King of the Jews” was deeply unsettling to him. The Magi, guided by divine revelation, had come to honor the Messiah.
When Herod heard the news, he convened the chief priests and teachers of the law. He ordered a Bible study, not to know God’s will, but to pinpoint a location where he could locate and ultimately destroy this new “ruler” who threatened his power. Quoting from Micah, the teachers told Herod that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.
Herod asks the Magi to inform him when they find this new king, feigning reverence for the Messiah. But after the Magi find Jesus, they are warned by God not to return to Herod. Matt. 2:16 is the part of the Christmas story that’s often left untold: “When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were 2 years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.”
Herod’s orders were a horrifying misuse of scripture intended to annihilate the innocent. Here we see the first stark indication of the cosmic struggle at work: a tyrant determined to eliminate the child who would bring righteousness to Israel.
Children as the Ultimate Revelation of Kingdoms
At the heart of the Christmas story is the conflict of kingdoms — the Kingdom of peace and the kingdom of an occupying tyrant who wants to hold people in bondage.
Time and again, the treatment of children reveals the true nature of power. Throughout the Bible — and indeed, across history — the way a people or institution treats its youngest members is a powerful indicator of good or evil. A society that cherishes and protects children reflects the compassionate Kingdom of God, while oppression and cruelty signal allegiance to the kingdom of Satan. Satan hates children.
It’s often difficult to discern good and evil in our current age, with strong polarization regarding what is good and right. That’s true of religious organizations, spiritual leaders, civic leaders or philosophies. Opposing voices are each claiming high moral ground.
In these difficult times, can we suggest a rule for discernment? You can almost always discern whether people, organizations, philosophies or societies are led by God or by Satan based on how they actually treat children, not by what they say about children.
The wisdom of Solomon in 1 Kings provides a compelling illustration. When faced with two women disputing the custody of a child, Solomon did not rely on their words alone; he looked to their natural concern for the child’s well-being. Solomon discerns that the woman who wanted the best for the child was actuated by the spirit of God, and, in contrast, the other woman was actuated by Satan, who callously said, “Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.”
In the Christmas story, God demonstrates His special regard for children. After warning Joseph in a dream, an angel directed him to take Mary and the infant Jesus to Egypt, safeguarding them from Herod’s deadly decree. This divine protection in the face of Satan’s murderous intent toward Jesus reminds us of God’s original Edenic promise of salvation and prediction of enmity between the seed of the woman and Satan (Gen. 3:15).
We understand that “seed” to be Jesus, born a baby in Bethlehem. But, in a sense, the Serpent’s enmity toward the seed of Eve is played out in his hatred of every child ever born, not just the Christ child.
C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia captures this motif through the image of a relentless adversary — a witch who seeks to destroy the “sons of Adam” and “daughters of Eve”. Such imagery powerfully symbolizes the enduring enmity between Satan and the “seed of the woman,” in contrast to Aslan’s willingness to give his life to save children. In most epic stories, evil seeks to destroy the guileless beauty of children and childhood.
Jesus Himself affirmed this truth. In John 10:10, He contrasted the destructive intentions of “the thief” with His mission to grant life in abundance. In Isa. 40:11, He is depicted as a loving shepherd who gathers the lambs in His arms. And in Mark 10:13–16, despite initial rebukes from His disciples, He welcomed little children, declaring that “the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” By healing them, teaching them and bestowing His blessing, Jesus demonstrated God’s tender regard and care for children.
Jesus hinted at a deeper, mysterious protection: the idea that each child has an angel watching over them, faithfully conveying their needs before God. This imagery powerfully reinforces how much God cares about each child.
A Cosmic Conflict with Timeless Implications
Rev. 12 paints a dramatic word picture of a battle between two kingdoms. Amidst this conflict between God and Satan, a seemingly helpless baby takes on a monumental role that unmasks the murderous hatred of Satan toward children. That’s the Christmas story in Revelation.
“The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born. She gave birth to a son, a male child, who ‘will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.’ And her child was snatched up to God and to His throne” (Rev. 12:4–5).
The Christmas narrative is far more than a serene story of a miraculous birth. It is a dynamic, ongoing confrontation between two radically different kingdoms. This narrative forces us to confront a stark reality that scripture, history and our own lived experience reveal the kingdom of evil most clearly through the mistreatment of children.
From the human sacrifices described in Jer. 7:31 — where altars were erected to burn sons and daughters — to Pharaoh’s notorious edicts in Exodus to kill all Hebrew newborn boys, the message is unmistakable. Throughout history, allegiance to Satan’s kingdom has been revealed in the cruelty and oppression of children — and, ultimately, their sacrifice.
And, throughout history, the Hebrew midwives and Gentile Magi aligned with the Kingdom of God have engaged in civil disobedience to protect children. This struggle is revealed today in the exploitation of children — over a quarter of slaves worldwide are children. It is revealed in the challenges to healthy child development presented by our modern society. One in four children in this country has a chronic illness. Childhood is literally the valley of the shadow of death.
In the story of Job, too, we witness how Satan’s first assault on Job was to kill his children. It serves as a reminder of the continual assault against young life — a battle that began well before Bethlehem and continues through every generation.
Choosing a Kingdom: A Call to Discernment
Ultimately, the Christmas story is a call to choose sides in the conflict between two kingdoms — the kingdom that inflicts suffering on children and the Kingdom that heals and nurtures children. Jesus’s invitation in Matt. 19:14 is clear: “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Each act of kindness toward children, every effort to protect and every stand against cruelty is a decisive advance in this cosmic struggle. The messenger of the Lord, Malachi, foresees that in the last days God will “turn the hearts of the fathers to the children.” As we celebrate Christ’s birth again, we invite you to consider two insights from this familiar story. First, God entered humanity as a baby to fully unmask Satan’s hatred for new life. Second, the conflict of kingdoms can be seen most clearly in how children are treated.
A Prayer
Lord, we thank You for entering our world in human form, Immanuel, “God with us.” Open our eyes to the reality of the fierce spiritual conflict hidden within the nativity narrative. Grant us the discernment to join the Kingdom of heaven — a kingdom that cherishes, protects and empowers every child. Amen.
Back in the late ’80’s, there was this huge hype about CDs replacing vinyl. Simultaneously, we were told that vinyl was being eliminated….. the decision had already been made…..and we were also told that CDs were better in every way.
A friend bought me a CD player for a wedding present. And the first two CDs I bought were albums that I already had on vinyl. I bought them because I loved the orchestrations…..Forever Changes by Love, and Elton John’s self titled 2nd album.
I wanted to hear how great these albums would sound with the so-called superior digital sound. And yes, they did sound different than the vinyl versions. And I convinced myself that, yes, it really did sound great.
One day a few years later, I was in the mood to hear that Elton John album, but I felt like pulling out the vinyl album. It has a cool cover that folds out with the lyrics inside. Like so many other albums, the music sounds like the cover. I just didn’t feel like pulling out that little plastic CD case this time.
And when I put the record on, I couldn’t believe my ears. It sounded so much better to me than the CD…..bigger, warmer. How could that be?
It’s not like I stopped loving vinyl when I started buying CDs. I just assumed that certain types of music, like jazz and classical, and anything with orchestrations would sound better on CD. But there was still something special about an old Rolling Stones vinyl 45.
Now I was questioning the entire premise that CDs sounded better than vinyl in any way shape or form. And it hit me that all that hype when CDs were first introduced was just to get everybody excited about running out to get the latest thing.
That was over three decades ago. And now that vinyl has made a comeback, I’ll never buy another CD again. And no, Spotify was of no interest to me when it was the “new thing”, and is of no interest to me now. My “playlist” is a huge wall of vinyl.
My point is that, just like steam heating, sometimes older technology is superior to new technology.
But the Western ruling class, which has been pushing secularism down our throats for over 100 years, wants us to worship technology and science. They want us to worship “smart men” instead of God (Einsteins….who can’t be questioned). They want us to believe that there’s nothing more important and exciting than the latest gadgets and how they’re “revolutionizing the markets”.
Young people today would never want to live in a world without social media, smartphones, and every other digital convenience of the last 20 years. It’s what they’re used to. Yet most Boomers are glad that stuff wasn’t around when they were growing up.
My parents grew up with radio and movies but no TV. They didn’t think they missed out on anything.
The same principle applies to every generation throughout history. It’s only the people who are spoiled by modern inventions who think that life was so horrible….like the caveman days….. without these conveniences that they got themselves addicted to…. with the help of our ruling class.
I spend thousands of dollars a year on vinyl, both used and new. I could take a vacation with that money. Or dine out in nicer restaurants.
Why do I do it? Because of love. Love of music. Love for a superior medium for enjoying music and multimedia art. Love of the antique. Love of a multidimensional experience that’s not just one more thing that we do on a damn blue screen!
That 2nd album (Tumbleweed Connection?) had interesting imagery that played like cowboy westerns in my mind
Burn Down The Mission?
I guess Bernie Taupin may have been watching Westerns on TV while writing
Oh, Sundance, thank you for sharing this most beautiful story — because of love. We are all truly blessed with a President who loves his country and by extension, us — the American people. We truly must thank the Lord above for all of the blessings He has bestowed upon us this year. We all must be grateful and sing the praises of such a loving God and a loving President and for people like you, Sundance, who are constant reminders of what we have been given and what we must fight for and focus on.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, and all Treepers.
Thank you. Amen. The sweet taste of Truth…..
LOVE this story……… makes my heart sing. Thank you Sundance
Lovely and sweet! It’s always the love.
Great metaphor, Sundance. Life is short. Ultimately, we are alone. Enjoy what you have. Give what you can. Be thankful.
I absolutely love this!! Thank you so much!! I have raised sheep many years and have only had two attacks, one by dogs and one by a bear. The first left nothing and my children sobbed and sobbed. BUT the owner offered to pay because he knew it was his negligence that caused the situation. He very generously gave me the wherewithal to buy two as a seed flock. The next time was caused by a ram who loved to escape. Pretty soon he had trained the flock to jump over the fence and escape. The bear got one, then two, then three burying them under refuse til later. I thought they were all dead but I arrived to check the damages and there was the ram and the best ewe of the flock standing together bewildered. We quickly hid this seed flock and admired their affection for one another, the only ones to escape. This was a true gift from the Lord. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful, moving story, Sundance.
Thank you for PattTheNavyBrat’s story. It was every bit as good as I thought it would be. And that it’s true (not AI stuff) makes it extra special.
P.S. Take care of your wiring.

Horses are really lovely animals. This is a bell mare. Usually an older female horse that all the horses follow because she knows just what to do in any horse experience.Taking care of a herd of horses is a real learning experience and a wonderful example of love and its rewards. Thanks for the story!
It reminds me of Odin , the wonder dog who saved his goats in the tubbs fire in Santa Rosa, Ca a few years ago. He would not leave his flock. There is a message there for us somewhere.
