The most interesting aspect to the Beijing trip was not and is not the trade success stories that surfaced during the trip {USTR Greer}. While President Trump brought titans of industry, tech and finance with him to Beijing, the emphasis is on relationships.
Stay elevated. Note the emphasis by Secretary Rubio was on geopolitical relations against the background of current events. Note how much narrative energy is spent on the ‘relationship’ aspect to President Trump and Chairman Xi, from both leaders and also on direct questions to all pertinent current events.
When questioned about issues, Trump, Rubio and Xi spoke of relations – not details of policy or current events. The venues within China were specific to something more akin to understanding motives behind policy, personal motives, historic motives from a personal perspective. It wasn’t a trip of transactions; the vibe, the frequency of it all, was seemingly dominated by something more important to the moment than dollars and yuan.
It seemed critical for both leaders to convey their mutual alignment, ensuring and emphasizing the importance of no conflict between their nations, even if policy differences are present. Both Rubio and Trump emphasized this overall tone.
To me, this makes sense given what I view as the current big picture.
President Trump is framing out an entirely new geopolitical alignment and both Russia and China are cornerstones in this construct.
The biggest losers right now, actual economic losers being hammered by the energy sector, are Europe the U.K, and all the commonwealth countries therein (including Canada). China is essentially in statis and lacking the needed power within this dynamic.
China’s power was through their industrial production which has one fatal flaw, dependency on customers.
We saw this play out in 2018 when the G7 in Canada erupted on Trump because their economies were shrinking. Their economies were shrinking because President Trump was confronting China (vis-a-vis tariffs and ASEAN replacement partnerships) and Beijing was responding by lowering prices and, unfortunately for the EU, stopping their purchases of industrial goods.
In 2018 and 2019 China stopped major purchases of industrial goods from the EU, that hurt the economy badly. That was the background for that infamous picture in Canada at the G7 meeting.
Shinzo Abe and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were fine. Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand all picked up business as President Trump told manufacturers to move production out of China and into ASEAN nations. That process was underway.
However, China started pulling back spending and devalued their currency as a strategy to lower prices and retain those manufacturers despite the tariffs. It is important to understand how this impacted Europe, especially Germany.
Fast forward to 2026 and the current energy issue. Once again President Trump has put the EU into a place of severe compromise, and without Russia being able to fill the void for the oil and gas missing from Venezuela and Iran, China would be in trouble.
Russia is filling that gap and China now in a position of dependency. Thus, with Big Panda experiencing dependency for the first time it becomes critical for Trump to emphasize that all is ok, don’t worry, we’re all friends. However, when Europe contracts it hits hard on China, and when China contracts it hits hard on Europe.
China’s long-term plan always included being able to infiltrate Europe, and they have been very successful. However, Trump is changing things and former ‘western’ power centers in Europe and the UK are losing power rapidly.
The takeaway from this summit is President Trump and Chairman Xi, the two biggest apex predators in the world of economics, talking to each other about the importance of staying deconflicted as this geopolitical realignment takes place. The nature of the relationship then becomes important, and that’s exactly the vibe that comes out of this trip.

Your use of “zero doubt” to BrandingIron5’s statement “Divine Intervention” is correct. This indicates certainty on your part, rather than simple agreement. Certainty vs Agreement in using this phrase “zero doubt” conveys that you (the speaker) feels no uncertainty about the truth of the fact. Although the phrase can imply/signal negatives about a complex or uncertain topic when alternative viewpoints are dismissed, pertaining to (advice and criticism from others). This is commonly described as “cognitive problem”, “excess of confidence” and “closed minds” which is unjustified in specific response. We see this played out over and again – in many cases in judicial systems in other countries as well.
Best example I can give (that pertains to the U.S.), in science and law – the U.S. Department of Justice banned claims of “zero error rates” (in so-called “expert” testimony), because such absolute certainty was found to be a form of “expert overconfidence” that led to serious errors. We have all to some degree, have had to overcome confirmation bias (through a long process) in seeking discomforting evidence, consider the opposite, embrace diverse perspectives, use structured decision-making, practice intellectual humility (that we can be wrong, in self-awareness), engaging in collaborative decision-making in specific spheres (political, educational, business, social, familial, religious – ad infinitum). This enables reflection of past decisions by reviewing previous judgments and their outcomes; which is necessary for growth in being able to identify if confirmation bias has played a role and to be able to adjust our approach for the future.
The Bible tells of individuals that “God uses imperfect human beings to achieve His plan”. This biblical theme underscores that God does not wait for people to be flawless before using them.
I will stop here. Bottom line is that there’s more to understanding language, the use of words, in context and the inter-relationships a word is tied to and how it is used.

Thinking back to the start of PDJT’s first campaign for POTUS, when he spoke about building a business he emphsized the fundamental of building good relationships among people at all levels. From the housekeepers in the hotels to the execs, etc.
In Sundance’s introduction I was reminded of JFKs “Peace Speech” to an Ivy League university.
The Theme was that we and the USSR were two different systems and would not agree, and would have differing interests and even conflicts, but that both could operate in the world in competition and in peace.

We are witnessing the controlled demolition of the Eurocentric rules and financial-based order in real time.

It’s a great thing that these 3 leaders can and will get together and talk with each other. I think Trump and Xi will meet 3 more times this year. Can you see Obama or Biden doing something like this?

Watch the body language. Xi is very relaxed, shows interest in PDJT’s personal safety (not hitting his head on the door frame), and then the remarkable exchange of when President Trump asks via interpreters if Xi invites other presidents to his residence. Watch Xi’s body, reflexive response first (head, smile shaking “no”) to which he verbally says no also. Truly amazing exchange. Shows true friendship. Watch how XI touches Trump’s arm sometimes. This show openness, trust, friendship on a deep level between them. We get to see a glimpse of it.
Later, in the room, Xi references President Trump’s inviting him to his personal home Mar-A-Lago. The Chinese culture/perspective is loonnggg term, not short. President Trump is a long term planner too. These men have more in common than most realize. Watched vid a 2nd time w/o sound. This relationship between Xi & Trump is personal, not just the business of their countries and President Trump brought his closest “business friends” to solidify this relationship with the power people of Xi’s country to make it a personal relationship beyond just business among those people. This will be highly honored by the Chinese people. Having been to China 35 years ago, the people are lovely, honorable, humble as a culture. Find the good..as Trump has.
President Trump is remarkable. One for the history books. His legacy will live far beyond his years. It is a priviledge to watch and have some tid bit of discernment and understanding of his ways which never mae the ‘news’.

My impression of the summit was the tone was warm and substance thin.

You call it, “trade.” But I call it, countries who have been maneuvering to try to out-maneuver one another, to the detriment of all of them!
It sounds so simple: like a four-letter acronym on a red hat. But it’s actually common-sense wisdom: “Make [your_country] Great Again!” Because, obviously, no one else on earth ever will do so, if you won’t. (They’ve got “[their_country]!” Duh.)
These “strange deals” that they were making were always very fragile. When something unexpected happened, they began to fall apart. But – “the unexpected” always happens in real life! They “act surprised” at something that could be easily anticipated.
So: Instead of “foreign entanglements,” you put “[your_country] first!” Now you can deal with others from a position of strength. You work for advantage, not necessity.
If all of the countries in question “took this lesson back home” and actually implemented it, the future of “foreign trade” would become dramatically different. And, far more robust(!) and profitable.

PDT just isolated Iran. Iran is left with no allies after Trump’s China visit. Killed Boko Haram leader, who could be an Iran sympathizer/pawn.
Venezuela was to test if China was willing to flex. China kept quiet. That gave PDT the signal to move to Iran. China still kept quiet. Trump flips China against Iran. I believe this is checkmate to Iran. Which is why Iran negotiators, whoever they are, are moaning.
