On Sunday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with the Ukraine negotiating team in Florida to further discuss acceptable terms for a broader ceasefire and end to the war.
Still trying to recover from corruption charges against his senior presidential team, Volodymyr Zelenskyy was not at the talks. Instead, the Ukraine delegation was led by State Security Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, while Zelenskyy went to Paris for an emotional support session with Emmanuel Macron.
Secretary Rubio and Secretary Umerov spoke before and after their 5-hour negotiation session. Secretary Rubio emphasized the main topic as securing the long-term future of Ukraine both from a security position and from an economic prosperity position.
This state security aspect comes as the Ukraine delegation is facing pressure to accept, they will lose most -if not all- of the Donbas region to Russia. “The end goal is obviously not just the end of the war. Obviously, that’s central and fundamental,” Rubio said. “It’s also about securing an end to the war that leaves Ukraine sovereign and independent and with an opportunity at real prosperity.”
In better-than-expected news, the EU is now saying they will not comply with any removal of sanctions against Russia. If the U.S-Russia and Ukraine work out a negotiated settlement that permits legal or economic relief for Vladimir Putin, the European Union will not agree and will instead make up their own decision on the issues.
Europe is holding this position as a threat, because President Trump is not fully consulting with them on all the granular details. However, this is the type of threat that is exactly beneficial to what appears to be the long-term strategy of Trump.
If Europe refuses to remove sanctions or legal threats against Russia, but the U.S. negotiates the removal of U.S treasury and financial sanctions against Russia, then the Europeans have chosen to stay behind the locked door of economic benefit. More than two-thirds of the world does not participate in the sanctions at all.
If Europe and Canada continue blacklisting Russia, the U.S-Russia energy development program gains exclusive benefits to Trump, Putin and other allies like Mohammed bin Salmon (Saudi Arabia), ASEAN nations and even Japan.
In very practical terms, someone like Viktor Orban (Hungary) would like nothing more than to violate ongoing Brussels sanctions against Russia, and as a consequence create a fracture point for European Union exit.
In practical terms, what would this look like? Well, the entire world would have lower energy prices, lower oil and natural gas prices, and lower gasoline prices by big margins. Meanwhile, Europe would have a massive disparity in their much higher energy costs – likely double the rest of the world. Think about the ramifications. Hungary, Georgia, Montenegro, and Serbia with 50% lower prices on gasoline and electricity than the EU. lolol It would be funny.
Unfortunately, with this in mind I find the EU threats hollow. As soon as the U.S-Russia-Ukraine work out a peace and security agreement, Europe will comply with whatever terms are negotiated for Russia. Failure to do so only isolates the Europeans and will create a problem amid their collective mindsets.

After an hour in a wider format, the meeting narrowed to three officials from each side — with the line of territorial control virtually the only issue discussed, according to the two Ukrainian officials.
On the U.S. side were Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump’s adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner. The Ukrainian side was represented by national security adviser Rustem Umerov, military chief of staff Gen. Andrii Hnatov and deputy head of military intelligence Vadym Skibitskyi.
After the talks with their teams ended, Umerov held another one-on-one meeting with Witkoff. Umerov then called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to brief him on the talks.
“It was intense but not negative. We really appreciate serious U.S. engagement. Our position is that we have to make everything to help U.S. succeed without losing our country and preventing another aggression from happening,” one of the Ukrainian officials wrote to Axios after the meeting.
Between the lines: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had wanted to discuss territory directly with Trump, but Trump said he’d only meet Zelensky or Putin again once a deal is close.
Umerov is expected to meet Zelensky in Paris on Monday and give him a more detailed report about the negotiations, Ukrainian officials say.
Witkoff plans to depart for Moscow on Monday and meet Putin on Tuesday.
“The main question is where the Russians stand and if their intentions are real. Let’s see what Witkoff brings from Moscow,” a Ukrainian official said. (more)
It’s interesting that this could become a fracture point for the EU. I think that’s right. If the fighting stops, because both sides are exhausted, we should pull out. We shouldn’t try to “rebuild” Ukraine. That will just lead to more corruption. Just leave it a barren wasteland. The soil is mostly still good and the farmers will return and they will soon be able to feed themselves. That’s really all you can hope for.

JK has gotten a lot of negative criticism for years and I have yet to see or hear of him doing anything but helping his father in law successfully in matters, especially in the ME. He’s is reputed to be a good negotiator. He neither brags about or rarely talks about anything he is doing publicly and is very respectful of his assignments and his father in law. It would seem a garrison of foreign troops, located in the new Ukraine, and able to respond to renegade transgressions rapidly, would be necessary to keep the peace. For this force to be serious, it would seem Russian troops would need to participate.

Among many concerns of who are in the Trump Administration, a glaring primary one I have is Marco Rubio who holds the office of Secretary of State and National Security Advisor to Trump. I do not trust him at all.
We are almost a year into Trumps’ 4 year term, and still fooling around with the concept of ceasefire, freezing our long planned and executed war to topple a sovereign Russian state.
Putin is not a dictator, in the sense of Stalin or Hitler. He simply represents the collective will of the vast majority of Russian citizens who are not interested in reverting to an impoverished state plundered by foreign kleptocrats.
He has patiently maneuvered around the multiple provocations by us and our Euro lap dogs and is Constitutionally obliged to recover all territories who overwhelming voted to secede from the foreign owned and operated Kiev regime.
Zelenskii has suspended elections for years now, which makes it impossible to enter any agreements with his signature.
Our own government has a long track record of duplicity and also cannot be trusted to create and honor an actual peace infrastructure, let alone a viable peace binding our Euro rabble despotic states.
NATO was formed as a defensive entity to protect “democracies” until the devastated European continent could rebuild and function on their own.
It has been used as weapon creating unrest and endless wars since 1991, which is the year it ended having any useful purpose.
To pretend that the UK, France, Germany, or most all Euro countries are “democracies” and are “allies” to America is undefendable.
We need an actual peace with Russia, end our membership in NATO and redeploy all our military out of Europe to our borders. End all spending on bases.

Economic sanctions against Russia don’t work because the Europeans evade them. The Russians know this. The Ukrainians blew up the Nordstream Pipeline because they know it. An EU threat to continue sanctions to thwart the US peace effort is simply pathetic. Being toothless is one thing; flaunting your gums, another.
Economic sanctions also don’t work when your country is so big and endowed with natural resources that you don’t have to import anything.
If “Western” trade systems lock you out, build another and call it, say, BRICS. There are lots of people on this planet to trade with. And you don’t have to use someone else’s currency. The show will go on.
Also, if you have oil and gas to sell, someone’s(!) gonna buy it. Always. Europe really doesn’t have any other sensible source of supply for energy. Eventually, they’re going to repair those pipelines, eat their pride, and start trading again. THEY have no choice.
I think it’s funny that Trump holds the Ukrainian puppet at arms length. Zelensky desperately wants to be under the wing of the US money bird, but POTUS is having none of it. This close to a deal the Boy King is lucky POTUS even returns his calls.
The framework discussed would leave Moldova in a very precarious position – one they have only themselves to blame for being in. Western/globalist interests have manipulated them into a pro-EU, anti-Russia position that they simply can’t afford if it means locking themselves into EU energy prices. If the US opens trade with Russia, but the EU keeps themselves (and Moldova, whose government would probably follow suit even though they don’t have to) fenced off, there is guaranteed to be unrest. The good news is, that might result in enough pressure to force them into an agreement to buy Russian energy, but the EU is going to push back hard – especially if they lose that much ground in Ukraine. Once again, Moldova is situated to be a major friction point.

I would like to inform Marco Rubio that it will take two generations to repair the damage of a foolish war if Ukraine can massively reduce the fraud and waste and its citizens are prepared to return and work hard at the rebuilding. It is their responsibilty and not that of US citizens. The US did not declare war on Russia and should not have pumped in oodles of dollars.
If any American wants to contribute let the politicians do so out of their own pockets and the military industrial complex who earned a fortune from the war. Not a dime of taxpayer money more should go to Ukraine because they have to learn a lesson from this war to become responsible members of the European community. They need to become realistic and see that the EU will disintegrate without massive reforms – which are highly unlikely with the present leadership.
