It looks like meeting Vice-President JD Vance yesterday was the last public appearance before Pope Francis died early this morning.
The exact cause of death has not been shared: “At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father,” said Cardinal Kevin Farrell in an announcement of the death. Francis, who suffered from chronic lung disease and had part of one lung removed as a young man, was admitted to Gemelli hospital on Feb. 14, 2025, for a respiratory crisis that developed into double pneumonia. He spent 38 days there, the longest hospitalization of his 12-year papacy.
(Via AP) – Francis’ coffin will be moved from the chapel of the Domus Santa Marta hotel, where he lived, to St. Peter’s Basilica for public viewing.
According to a new ritual Francis approved last year, the body of the pope will be placed in a wooden coffin, with a zinc coffin inside. The pope will be dressed in red liturgical vestments, his miter — the traditional headdress of bishops — and the pallium woolen stole, a kind of scarf.
When the body is brought into the basilica, the Litany of Saints chant is sung. The camerlengo, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, leads the procession.
In a change ordered by Francis, the pope’s body will no longer placed on an elevated bier in the basilica. Rather, the simplified wooden coffin is placed facing the pews, with the Pasqual candle nearby.
No date for the funeral has been announced, but it must be held between four and six days after the death. (more)

Grandma’s rules apply.
“If you can find nothing good to say…..”
Pope Francis’ time on earth is over.
He has been judged by God.
May God have Mercy o n his soul
Rumor is he converted from Communism to Christianity just before he died.
Does that mean if you can’t tell the truth, you should shut up?
I guess so, because apparently the truth would be impolite in some circles.
Sometimes, yes. There will be plenty of time later for retrospection.
It means judge not lest you be judged. We are all unworthy. Only the grace of God will save us.
My $.02
The Bible does admonish us not be hypocrites; not to wrongly judge lest that same measure of judgement be upon us.
It also admonishes us to judge and do so rightly. To suggest, as some may, that “judge not” means one can never speak against sin/error is at odds with God’s word.
Paul’s epistles are chock filled with admonition to individuals, jew and gentile alike, saved and unsaved, and the Church. 1 Corinthians comes immediately to mind.
Those in the Church are to gently and lovingly correct, when needed. Doing so requires much prayer and self examination. Criticism for criticism sake and that is not meant in love to uplift is sin.
We are also told, for example, we can know a tree by its fruit. That requires “judgment” or discernment. It is clear believers must know right from wrong based on God’s inerrant word.
Only God knows a man’s heart. Christ alone can judge: condemn or welcome home to the Church eternal.
Satan loves to cause confusion among God’s elect, and he often does so by twisting and turning the clear Words of the Lord.
Just like in the Garden of Eden when Satan caused Eve to twist the actual Words God had spoken, Satan does the same thing in the House of the Lord today.
Judgement and discernment are essentially the same thing, and we are told as followers of Christ that we must have discernment and we must use the discernment God has given us.
Here is what Paul wrote about judgement, and he clearly asks followers of Christ in a pointed question, “Are [we] not to judge those inside [the assembly of the redeemed]?”
1 Corinthians 5:9-13
“I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people — not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.
What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.””
As Christians, how are we to “know” who to eat with or who not eat with, who to expel from among us or who not expel from among us, if we do not use our discernment and judge rightly?
We most definitely “judge” all the time, as we should.
And the splinter versus the log in one’s eye….
Jesus was born as a Savior, for all. He was born to endure His Passion, for all. And we remain unworthy as we strive to be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
We will all be judged by God and held to account for our lives. Does this mean we say only kind and charitable words about those who have done evil deeds?
There were many who were silent while Pope Francis was misleading the flock and endangering their souls. Only four Cardinals signed the “Dubia.” Only four.
One of the readings on Spy Wednesday last week that stuck with me was that God put bad men on the earth so that they may be corrected, and to test the good. Much like the tares that grow amongst the wheat.
It has been said by some that we get the Pope we deserve.
The College of Cardinals has been stacked by Pope Francis.
Do we believe the Holy Spirit will guide those assembled in Sistine Chapel? Do we deserve a better Pope? Who are we to say?
As Smitty said above, “He has been judged by God.” This is a true statement. Why would humans now judge him after his death when God has done so. People had plenty of time to make comments while he was living, and did so, but we are we to judge him now. Judgment belongs to God/Christ. At least that’s what Scripture says in Revelation.
Eternal judgement by Jesus.
I actually agree it’s Christ but having just done in intensive study in Revelation, there is a verse that alludes to God judging. But I agree it’s Jesus.
Colossians 4:6 KJV
Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
My first thought was, “Yippee!” followed by mercy for his soul. He ruined the Church with being so woke.
Now the Catholic Church can be resurrected.
Should they so desire.
In God We Trust
Trust God
Fear not
Actually, the Church seems to have begun thriving on his watch, probably because he worked so hard to try to dumb it down. The traditional Latin Mass is expanding, and evangelical Christians in the US have been converting in droves.
I think David M might be talking about a different kind of failing.
A Spiritual one.
Not necessarily a thriving of numbers of people but the growth of robust teachings of Christ.
Archbishop Vigano disagrees …
These heretical ravings are directly opposed to the Catholic Faith, which teaches us that there is a particular Judgment for everyone, which Bergoglio could not escape. His soul has therefore not disappeared, nor has it dissolved: he will have to account for the crimes he has committed, first of all having usurped the throne of Peter in order to destroy the Catholic Church and loose so many souls.
But if this non-pope and anti-pope can no longer harm the Mystical Body, his heirs still remain, the subversives whom he has invalidly created “cardinals” and who have long been organizing themselves to ensure a continuator of the synodal revolution and the destructuring of the Papacy. In support of them are also the conservative Cardinals and Bishops who have been careful not to question the legitimacy of Jorge Bergoglio. It is on these people that the greatest responsibility for the outcome of the next “conclave” falls.
Exactly. He was an abomination.
Matthew 7:15-21
“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. You shall know them by their fruits.
Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Every tree that brings forth evil fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
By their fruits you shall know them.
Not every one that says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of My Father Who is in Heaven.”
Every tree that brings forth evil fruit will be cast into the fire.
Archbishop Vigano had the Catholic version of J6 done to him and used to be a person in good standing in the Catholic Church. He has personal and professional reason to speak out.
I am not Catholic and will withhold my opinion until the pope is buried. Then I will look forward to seeing who the Catholics choose as their new pope. This is their chance to correct their course. We’ll see.
In the meantime, I think that people have a valid right to express an opinion of the pope’s stewardship of the Catholic church.
Entire text of the tweet above is as follows:
.
In 2018, Eugenio Scalfari reported the words that Bergoglio supposedly confided to him about his vision of the afterlife:
.
“Sinful souls are not punished: those who repent obtain God’s forgiveness and join the ranks of souls who contemplate him, but those who do not repent and cannot therefore be forgiven disappear. There is no hell, sinful souls simply disappear”.
.

Here is something good to say: I hope the mistakes this flawed man made have helped bring you closer to God. I hope that this brings you to yearn for God’s word so that you read the Bible daily:
2 Tim 3:16-17
I hope this man has convinced you that you do not need any intercessor other than Jesus:
1 John 2:27
That does not mean we should ignore all men,
Ephesians 4:11
but we must judge rightly by looking for the fruit of the Spirit.
John 7:24
Luke 6:44
I hope that this flawed man has helped you realize that all men are flawed, we all fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), even those whom God blesses with high office.
Nope not for someone whose life’s choices affected over a billion people.
Thank you.
We do all have to remember the only words we will always come to regret more than the ones that go unsaid are the ones used to harm someone else; in whichever way.
Truth hurts sometimes and it’s not always nice!
Jorge Mario Bergoglio, aka Pope Francis was a great recruiter of people away from the Roman Catholicism.
.
Former / recovering Roman Catholics make exceptional followers of Jesus.
.
The ones that I know and spend time with are diligent readers of scripture and apply it to their daily life.
.
My thesis is: The more evil a Pope is, the more people become obedient followers of Jesus. This seems true whether they leave Roman Catholicism or not.
.
Finally, I want to say that I even know a few former Roman Catholics that hear a calling from the Lord to return to Roman Catholic churches.
.
These loving people are witnesses of grace through faith and not of works, lest any person should boast.
.
So no matter who the next leader of the “Holy See” is it is a win – win!
You should watch a program on EWTN on Mondays called The Journey Home. It’s an hour long program that is in an interview format with someone who has converted, or reverted to Catholicism.
Often times these are former ministers from Protestant churches. They are typically well read and have given serious considerations to what it will cost them to give up their ministry to follow Jesus.
Your thesis is defective. I was received into the Catholic Church twenty five years ago, but my story is not interesting enough for TV.
Saying nothing.
I couldn’t help myself….I tried….
👍
Make the Pope, Italian again.
Like Pietro the Roman?
Maybe just make the Pope Catholic again!
Exactly.
Regarding Saint Malachy and the accurate calling of Popes. Look up Pietro (Peter) is against Latin Mass a mostly all of the ones Francis arranged at the College of Cardinals are quite liberal.
Where They Stand – The College of Cardinals Report
Sorry to say, but that isn’t going to happen. The Church has been taken over by Communists. This POS did more damage to the Catholic church than Obama did to the USA.
Maybe make the pope Christian again.
Or Catholic…
How about Christian. The acceptance of homosexuality, abortion and communism is about as far from Christian as one can get.
True, but there are so many denominations that I refuse to worship in any church. Until there is only one church, I will always view it as a hypocrisy.
Yes, before we throw stones we need to look at our own churches. The Methodist Church I belong to disaffiliated because of UMC progressive ideology
Catholicism is not a denomination. There are many Protestant denominations- all protesting that which is Catholic.
If two men say they are Jesus, logic tells us one of them must be wrong. Logic tells us at least one is wrong but not necessarily both.
Jesus left us a church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Therefore, there must be one true church.
Church are run by men, all of whom are imperfect. Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good
How ’bout
Make the Pope Catholic again
Personally, there are a couple of Africans I’d prefer to see to anyone.
Burke would be great and American. Sarah would be good. Trust in God. All others pay in cash.
Bergoglio was Italian.
Argentine
His parents were from Italy.
“Pope Gilmar Obrega Garcia” has a nice ring to it.
Pope Sara? The first African Pope? (of the modern era anyways, since some early Popes may have been from North Africa – I don’t know)
Cardinal Sarah…right hand of JP2…. will be God’s gift to humanity of WORLD…
He’s fairly conservative, apparently. How about Burke?
A very holy, Orthodox man. IMO, there will never be a Pope from the U.S.
Trangender, non binary, with purple hair
😂😂😂
Please don’t give them any ideas!
Better ask Jesus to forgive you on that one
Archbishop Vigano. Frankie excommunicated him for speaking the truth.
I’m for making Father Guido Sarducci (from SNL when it was funny) Pope!
I love my Catholic brethern in the name of JESUS. This is all I came to say, and I will pray for this man’s soul.
Too late the soul has been judged.
Yes, and he will forever be in the company of a large group of democrats.
Not so, per the Catechism of the Church.
Our prayers may still be heard for those who have crossed the veil.
But the prayers of those who have passed are no longer heard, for they now exist on the other side. For their prayers, it is too late.
For non-Roman Catholics :
.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) teaches that prayers for the dead benefit those in Purgatory, not those in Hell.
.
For Roman Catholics, the Douay-Rheims Bible says :
.
Ephesians Chapter 2 :8 – 10
.
8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, for it is the gift of God; 9 Not of works, that no man may glory. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus in good works, which God hath prepared that we should walk in them.
.
[9] “Not of works”: as of our own growth, or from ourselves; but as from the grace of God.
.
People who follow Bible scriptures only, believe that praying for someone post death is “working” someone into heaven from Purgatory.
.
Purgatory is not is not in the Douay-Rheims Bible or any other translation that I found.
.
Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) teaches that Purgatory is a reality.
.
I hope that I even-handily explained the differing theological positions.
.
Each person must choose for themselves.
2 Maccabees 1245And because he considered that they who had fallen asleep with godliness, had great grace laid up for them. 46It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins. …
True, no need to pray for the dead.
I have prayed for his soul. It was very, very hard to do so.
The damage that he has wrought on souls – may the Lord forgive him!
Too late
Interesting phrasing:
“Returned to the home of the Father”
Ah. . . but which one?
Per my comments in the Daily Thread, I’m not inviting speculation on Bergiglio’s actual destination, just noting that interesting language.
John 8 :44
Faith.
I already speculated where he ended up and once is enough.
I hope that situation can be righted. This ought to be a most watched event.
Not a fan of the papacy. But, hoping for an upgrade. 🤞
Well to me he was a political Pope and we had different politics. Hopefully the next Pope will be more interested in the Spiritual than the political! JMO
The Left has invested decades trying to convince the world, and America in particular, that Jesus was a communist

“Instead, he penned not a new symphony but a violent cacophony, leaving behind him a Church more divided – geographically, theologically, and liturgically – than it has been in decades, and a Vatican teetering on the brink of insolvency. Many might insist that it is too soon to judge the legacy of the man who himself famously withheld judgement. But others might recall his words in Paraguay in 2015, when he enjoined the crowd to “Make a mess, but then also help to tidy it up.” In his nearly 12 years as pope, Francis certainly made a mess. It’s now for someone else to help tidy it up.”
Retired Magistrate here: I never understood how there could be two popes at the same time: Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis. I know that Pope Benedict “resigned” from being Pope; however, I thought the only way a Pope could “resign” was through death.
I am not being disrespectful; I just don’t understand. I am not Catholic but I do have some understanding of traditional Catholic doctrine and I would hope the new Pope is a follower of that doctrine.
Research the history of the parallel papacy in Avignon. Two popes is nothing new.
Benedict resigned and Francis was elected.
What is it that you don’t understand?
Nixon resigned and therefore wasn’t President anymore.
Francis was a radical, many Catholics and a large number of observers around the world have questioned if Radzinger was pushed out, and skepticism over Pope Francis’s handling of scandals in South America followed him to the Vatican

….”Leaked Emails Show Political Plot to Oust Benedict
A group of Catholic leaders cite new evidence uncovered in emails released by WikiLeaks that the conservative Pope Benedict did not actually resign on his own initiative, but was pushed out of the Vatican by a coup that the group of researchers are calling the “Catholic Spring.”
The group of Catholic leaders includes Christopher A. Ferrara, President of The American Catholic Lawyers Association, Michael J. Matt, Editor of The Remnant, David L. Sonnier, LTC US ARMY (Retired), Chris Jackson of Catholics4Trump.com, and Elizabeth Yore, Founder of YoreChildren.
Last January 20, 2017, the group wrote and published a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump, formally requesting him to to launch an official investigation into the activities of the billionaire liberal leftist George Soros, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton (and others) who they allege were involved in orchestrating the Catholic Spring that resulted in their goal of “regime change” in the Vatican.”….
There was a lot of controversy and disagreement about Pope Benedict’s valid “resignation”. You’re not being disrespectful at all. Many Catholics felt the same way.
Not a fan of Bergolio’s policies.
Regardless, I will pray for his eternal soul.
God watch over your Holy Church and bring your infinite wisdom and guidance to those selecting our new Pope to lead.
The Church has a number of things to consider now. First, like any orthodox practicing Catholic, I consider Modernism heresy. However, I do not now consider that a pope cannot resign. First, let me say that I am not done researching further, but I don’t think the very fact that Benedict resigned was invalid. And I’m familiar with the horse manure arguments Barnhardt and her ilk put out.
We are in an age where people can be kept alive, but are totally incapable of exercising such an office as the papacy. What happens when we get a Biden pope, and the auto signers run everything, without even a possibility of Peter’s chair being validly occupied?
I think a lot of faithful and orthodox Church leaders and theologians have more work to do, in keeping with the teachings of the full Magisterium. I don’t have answers, just questions.
But I didn’t convert to Catholicism to become a Protestant via Sedevacantism. If I leave the Catholic Church, which is not ever happening, there are many fine people I respect in other denominations I’d follow before I’d imitate Catholicism.
I too have questions Menagerie and I’m far from a legal expert on what transpired leading up to 28 February 2013. Just not convinced that the globalists deep state, deep Church didn’t manipulate people to facilitate the rise of Bergolio.
Liz Yore has done some amazing research that explains the color revolution in the Church when Benedict was replaced.
We are united in our devotion and prayer for Our Mother Church.
For Menagerie: Pope Celestine V resigned on his own volition in 1294. So Pope Benedict XVI was not the first to do so. Also, Pope Gregory XII resigned in 1415 because he was one of 3 claimants to the papacy and did so for unity in the face of the Western Schism going on at the time.
We will never know the whole back story and machinations behind these resignations, dig as we may.
For everyone: “Be ye therefore merciful as your Father also is merciful.” Luke 6:36
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me HATH EVERLASTING life” John 6:47 (Emphasis added by me)

For an entertaining and potentially insightful answer to your question … Read the “Road to Gandolfo” by Robert Ludlum (1982).
Robert Ludlum had a way of weaving grains of fact and truth into his novels.
Good morning the doc00. A very good suggestion for reading. It is one of my favorite books. Not only did it give me an education of the Papacy but made me laugh till I cried.
He wrote another one “The Road To Omaha”, which was great at educating about our own government and the way they treated the Native American population and the inner workings of the Supreme Court, but it also made me laugh till I cried!
I only wish that Robert Ludlum had been able to write another in the sequel of The Road stories.
Note to anyone contemplating reading these two stories, read “The Road to Gandolfo” first then “The Road To Omaha”, as the main characters are featured in both stories, and the first “Road” story is referenced in the second “Road” story.
Thank you for mentioning this. I shall go back and reread both.
Have a wonderful and blessed day.
Yep .. I have read both books three times over. I have collected all of Robert Ludlum’s works and these two are my favorites … even exceeding the Jason Bourne Novels.
I have also collected all his works. Those two are also my favorite, even though the Bourne Novels were great. Thanks for responding.
There were not. Benedict was pope until his death and since then the See has been empty.
^^^Caution to all non Catholics seeking sincere clarity. This comment is an opinion a number of Catholics have. I urge you, if you are interested, to dig deeper into the validity of such commentary, and make an informed decision as to the truthfulness.
RESPECT
Good evening Menagerie. I agree. I am non Catholic but had many Catholic girl friends in High School. They and their parents were very hospitable and answered my many questions about the Catholic faith. It was a very good education and gave me an understanding of the faith straight from several generations that had been raised in the Catholic faith. Thank you for all your faith based articles which have educated me further and helped me with my own faith. Have a blessed evening and week.
Perhaps our Lord is cleaning His house, as a part of Resurrection Sunday.
I have a feeling – imo – that some idiot on the left will use the Easter Sunday angle to tell us that it is sign of his holiness meaning a sign of everything leftist, that the Pope might have been involved in, is sanctioned by God.
Of course they only talk about God and Christianity if they can use it to advance their narratives.
While I’m sorry for him, I hope the next Pope will be better. In my opinion he left much to be desired.
Nevertheless, I hope he will rest in peace.
NOT catholic, thank the Lord.
If catholics want to follow and be mandated by an authority who thinks THEY are God, so be it.
The pope is not the figurehead you assume him to be.
Please educate yourself on the role of the papacy.
Perhaps Pope Francis should have educated himself on the role of the papacy.
Pope Francis knew the role of the papacy very well. He continued the long legacy of popes successfully deceiving many into believing Catholicism is a Christian religion.
II Thessalonians 2:9-12
Paul was Catholic. The bible was assembled by the Catholic church.
There was only one Christian religion, Catholicism (meaning universal) from the time of the crucifixion until 381 AD when the until Eastern Orthodoxy was formed. They separated themselves from the Catholics, then becoming known as Western or Roman Christians.
The Eastern Orthodox Church was the first to officially split off from Catholicism in 1054.
The Protestants split off from Catholicism in the 1520’s +
The Baptists split off from Catholicism in the 1600’s
and the Methodists in the 1700’s.
I split from all the faux churches decades ago –
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. – Galatians 5:1
Jesus Christ is the Cornerstone of the Church. Amen!
KJ21
but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou ought to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. 1 Timothy 3:15
Jesus founded a church on Peter- petros- rock.
The church is the pillar and ground of truth.
Sorry, not you.
The Catholic Church did not exist until Constantine created it in the fourth century. He took Roman paganism and inserted Christian ideas into it. That is why so much of the symbolism, rituals, holidays, practices, and graven images (statues of saints with candles in front of them to encourage you to pray to the saint depicted by the idol) from Roman paganism carried over to Catholicism.
The early church pre-Constantine was Christian. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, there wasn’t even a bishop of Rome until Pius I in 142. Claiming Catholicism originated with Peter is a false claim designed to create legitimacy where there was none. Paul was a Christian, but certainly not a Catholic.
There were definitely other Christian sects before 381. The Arian Christians (followers of Arius) were the reason the Nicene creed was created. The Arians based their faith on the Bible, correctly observing the fact that the most famous verse in the Bible called Jesus God’s only begotten son, and also practicing adult baptism. In response, the Catholic Church killed the Christians who practiced adult baptism (which is the only true baptism, as it is a sign of one’s faith, which am infant does not have). They then releases the Nicene creed to claim Jesus was not begotten, and that Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit are three equal Gods. Jesus is subservient to the Father (he doesn’t know when he will return, he followed God’s will by being crucified, etc.), so they are not equal. If you believe they are, you are practicing polytheism.
You have a grade-school understanding of Christianity.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is the adult acceptance of the life with Jesus. The Goaler and his whole family were baptised.
One aspect, the English Reformation, courtesy of King Henry the VIII, finalized in 1534 and the Act of Supremacy.
There were five Patriarchates all in communion with each other. One, Rome, left the other four then went on to spawn tens of thousands of so-called Protestant churches.
The western Church has been promulgating errors for centuries.
There are so many sects and cults and “ministries” and groups today.
And they formed two churches and so on and so on.
Hear, hear
Thank you, Smitty, for your comments.
May perpetual light shine upon the soul of Pope Francis. It is what I hope for all of humanity, as well, that each soul would find its home with Our Lord. I wish that each of us would know the love and mercy of God and respond accordingly. It makes me sad, that my fellow Treepers would be snide.
The papacy was begun with St. Peter. Having just come out of Holy Week, we know that St. Peter denied Christ three times before the cock crowed. He was not perfect, yet he was the man that Jesus chose to lead His Church.
Likewise, none of us is perfect, but each is asked to know, love and serve Our Lord. How do we manage with our imperfection? How do people see God, based on our words and deeds as His ambassadors?
The pope has a huge public presence and has a huge responsibility. He is still only a man. It is only when speaking ex-cathedra (https://www.catholic.com/qa/what-does-the-term-ex-cathedra-mean-and-where-did-the-catholic-church-come-up-with-it) that he is considered infallible, though one would hope his public statements would be consistent with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Rather than seeking to discredit and malign, we should be on our knees praying for his holiness and fortitude. Remember 1 Peter 5:8–“Be sober and watch: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour.” (Douay-Rheims translation)
Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy.
Not going to happen. It’s like telling a person trying to learn French to not use an English dictionary for reference.
Vicar of Christ translates to “Substitute Christ.”
This is one example of what jwmson meant.
We know from the Bible the Antichrist would “speak great things” (Daniel 7:8, 7:11, 7:25, II Thessalonians 2:4, Revelation 13:5), exalt himself in opposition to God (II Thessalonians 2:4), and “as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God” (II Thessalonians 2:4).
Calling yourself Jesus’ replacement unquestionably fits that description.
It’s sad that the authors of this site don’t employ the same kind of critical thinking to Catholicism that they do to politics.
I’ve read lots of shallow, and uninformed opinions and comments on Catholicism in the past almost 50 years. Yours is unremarkable.
So “shallow and uninformed” to you means examining the Biblical evidence and seeing what it tells us? I’m pretty sure that is exactly why God gave us the scripture to begin with.
Ten pieces of Biblical evidence for the identity of the Antichrist:
1.) Three passages tell us the Antichrist comes from Rome: He comes from the fourth beast of Daniel 7, which represents Rome (little horn in Dan. 7:7-8), he comes from the same people who destroyed the Temple in 70 AD, which was also Rome (Dan. 9:26), and the Antichrist beast sits on “seven hills,” which is Rome’s nickname (Rev. 17:8-11).
2.) Three of the ten kingdoms that came from the fall of the Roman Empire collapse before he receives power (Dan. 7:8, 7:20). Ten kingdoms did arise out of the fall of the Roman Empire: the Alemanni, Anglo-Saxons, Baiuvarii, Burgundians, Franks, Heruli, Ostrogoths, Suevi, Vandals, and Visigoths. The first three kingdoms to fall were the Alemanni (496 AD), Heruli (508), and Burgundians (532). The fourth kingdom to fall was the Vandals (March 534). This means the Antichrist had to come to power between 532 and March 534. The bishop of Rome became the pope for the first time in 533, between the fall of the third and fourth kingdoms.
3.) He shall subdue three kings (Dan. 7:24). Catholic armies defeated the Vandals, Baiuvarii, Ostrogoths.
4.) Diverse from the other ten kings (Dan. 7:24). The pope is a religious leader, not a political leader.
5.) Would “speak great things and blasphemies” (Dan. 7:8, 7:11, 7:25, II Thess. 2:4, Rev. 13:5). Popes have always said incredibly sacrilegious things.
6.) Wears out the saints (Dan. 7:25). The papacy has persecuted true Christians since its inception in 533 AD.
7.) Would change the times and laws (Dan. 7:25). Popes have changed canon law, calendars, holidays.
8.) Would exalt himself against God (II Thess. 2:4). Popes claim to be Vicar of Christ (“substitute Christ”).
9.) Would be the eighth king of Rome (Rev. 17:10-11). The sixth king (the king that “is”) was the Roman Emperors, the seventh king (who reigned for a “short space”) was Rex Italiae/King of Italy, and the eighth king (Antichrist) is the Pope. Immediately after the Ostrogoths, who were led by Rex Italiae, fled Rome after their siege failed in March 538, The bishop of Rome (now the pope) seized political power and ruled the city.
10.) Would “make war with the saints” (Rev. 13:7). The popes martyred many true Christians for their faith (ex. the Donatists in the 4th-6th centuries, the Waldensians in the 12th century, the Cathari/Albigensians during the Albigensian Crusade in the 13th century, Anabaptists in the 16th century, who were martyred by the Catholic Church for practicing adult baptism, Inquisitions against Christians, the persecutions during the Counter-Reformation, etc.).
You can believe God’s word or the words of the men who wrote the Catechism. We must all decide for ourselves. I’ll keep praying for you.
It is very possible that putting down a religious system is harder to stop doing than booze, drugs, cigarettes, fornication, adultery, lying, cheating, overeating, chewing tobacco, using the name Jesus Christ as a swear word, writing bad checks, running out on your restaurant bill, speeding in a school zone, putting your trash in your neighbor’s garbage can, reading porn, kicking a dog, stealing an old lady’s false teeth while she is in the restroom, practicing the violin at 3 am, ditto for drums, releasing your pet python into the wild…..have I forgotten anything?
You can call it whatever you want, but we know the Antichrist leads a false Christian church and that his followers are sent a “strong delusion that they should believe a lie” (2 Thess. 2:9-12). If you are so certain Catholicism is Christian, I’ll pray for you to see the truth.
I’m just trying to help those who are so close to Christianity, yet so far.
For Catholics ..
“The task for a Christian is to drown evil in an abundance of good. It is not a question of negative campaigns, or of being anti anything. On the contrary, we should live positively, full of optimism, with youthfulness, joy and peace. We should be understanding with everybody, with the followers of Christ and with those who abandon him, or do not know him at all. But understanding does not mean holding back, or remaining indifferent, but being active”
Furrow, 864
“Ordo amoris, or “order of love,” is a concept rooted in Christian theology that emphasizes the proper order and degree of love for different objects and people. This idea was first articulated by Augustine in the 5th century in his work “City of God,” where he discussed how love can go wrong when it is not accorded to objects or people in the degree that is appropriate to them.
The idea of ordo amoris suggests that our affections should be ordered in a way that reflects the importance and nature of the objects of our love, ensuring that we prioritize our duties and relationships appropriately.
St Augustine
I see Catholic-bashing is still alive and well. Not very Christian however.
Quit your heretic-bashing.
I’m biting my lip so hard it’s bleeding.
I once heard this phrase…
Something along the lines of: The long march through the institutions.
Let us bite the thoughts that might be from a source other than God.
Trying hard.
I’m a practicing Catholic, and while I certainly hope he rests in peace, I will NOT mourn his passing from the scene.
So many of his stances on issues disturbed me —- illegal immigration, gays, global warming, his repression of the Latin Mass, , his Castro-coddling, his support of liberation theology, his tendency to always side with the state over the individuals, his loathing for President Trump, and his program to appoint mostly radical leftists as Bishops and Cardinals — frankly his death came as something of a relief.
I sincerely hope that a course correction may follow, particularly if the next pope to emerge from the white smoke brings us a tough-minded African or Asian pope —- who seem to the only remaining “traditional” doctrine supporters these days.
So RIP Francis…..and hopefully the good Lord will be more merciful to you than I would.
Well said.
I am a conservative (WELS) Lutheran who, quite by accident, had the opportunity last Father’s Day to meet and visit with the Bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm, Minnesota, at Aldi. My wife and I had a delightful conversation with him and drove home feeling confident that the Prairie Catholics—as the diocesan website refers to their flock—are in good hands. I hope I will be able to say the same about the next Pope.
The Church’s first Jesuit Pope
Pope Francis did have a propensity to sow confusion among the laity.
I’m confident every person with an official position in every chancery has a personal agenda.
A couple times I have said that the Bishop does not always get the best advice from those in his chancery, I’m confident the same pertains to The Vatican.
L4Grasshopper I agree with your comments. As I’ve stated up-thread – prayerfully requesting another Pope Leo 13th.
I’m so with you on your possible choices for the next pope.
Leftist are already accusing JD of killing him! Why am I not surprised. What a bunch of maroons.
It must have been the “secret” handshake, eh?
Haha.
I have a list of political figures I would like JD to visit.
The list is long.
Archbishop Vigano is not on that list.
LOL! The church celebrates Easter week (as I do) for an Octave. This allows us to pray for the papacy transition during a time of much grace. Our Lord has seen fit to allow satan to cause the Church to undergo a time of suffering under false (atheistic) liberation theology for may years; most likely as a penance. The timing of this is a sign of hope that the Holy Spirit is ready to renew His Church. Of course we will have to see how this goes … PS J.D. can visit Soros next.
And Vigano would be an excellent pope.
Ironic Juxtaposition:
Easter Sunday:
Jesus Christ has risen.
Easter Sunday:
Current Pope dies.
Did he return the diamonds?
Allegedly he returned the gold ; )
Being a pope, let’s hope he’s headed in the right direction.
Father, I pray for the soul of Jorge Bergoglio. I hope that he found salvation through your son Jesus, and thank you for your mercy that his illness and suffering are now over. Amen
Possible cause of death-Pulmonary Embolus.
May God have mercy on him.
Never been a fan of the man, but I respect the office. I think he was part of St Galen Mafia and surrounded by freemasons-the most anti-Catholic, secretive group spawned by the European revolutionary thought of the 1700’s.
For all the talk about biting tongues, I’ll choose to speak openly. If you examine the Biblical evidence the way Sundance examines political evidence, you’ll see exactly who the Antichrist is.
1. The Antichrist comes from the city of seven hills (Rev. 17:8-9) which is Rome.
2. The people of the Antichrist will be the same people who destroyed the Temple – the Romans (Daniel 9:26).
3. The Antichrist (‘little horn’) comes from the fourth beast of Daniel 7 – the Roman Empire.
4. The Antichrist comes to power after exactly three of the ten kingdoms that came out of the collapse of the Roman Empire had fallen (Daniel 7:8, 7:20). The ten kingdoms that came out of the fall of Rome were the Alemanni, Anglo-Saxons, Baiuvarii, Burgundians, Franks, Heruli, Ostrogoths, Suevi, Vandals, and Visigoths. The first three to collapse were the Alemanni (c.496), Heruli (c.508), and Burgundians (532). The fourth kingdom to fall was the Vandals (March 534). This means the Antichrist had to come to power between 532 and March 534. The BISHOP OF ROME became the POPE in 533 – after exactly three of the ten kingdoms had fallen.
5. The Antichrist would subdue three of the other kingdoms (Daniel 7:24). The Vandals, Baiuvarii, and Ostrogoths were all defeated by Catholic armies.
All ten kingdoms were defeated by 1066. There is no future Antichrist, as 4 & 5 cannot be fulfilled by someone who came/comes to power after March 534AD.
Not to mention the fact that the theory of a future Antichrist was created during the Counter-Reformation in response to the Protestant Reformers correctly identifying the papacy as the Antichrist. Who created that theory? A Catholic Jesuit priest.
Cardinal Parolin is the Antichrist.
They all are. The position of the papacy is the Antichrist. Parolin may be a future pope, but he did not come to power between 532 and 534.
Roman Catholics get the Popes they deserve.
Parolin is deeply involved in Mexico and Venezuela and protects the interests of the drug cartels (migrants).
Look at his background.
The future Antichrist will occupy the Temple in Jerusalem. The Anti Christ will reign from the Jewish Temple, not the Vatican.
St. Paul makes this clear in 2 Thessalonians 2:4:
Moreover [Paul] has also pointed out this which I have shown in many ways: that the temple in Jerusalem was made by the direction of the true God. For the apostle himself, speaking in his own person, distinctly called it the temple of God [2 Thess. 2:4] . . . in which the enemy shall sit, endeavoring to show himself as Christ”
To make the prophecies of the Antichrist fit the pope, some even claimed that “the temple of God” in which the Antichrist pretends to be God (2 Thess. 2:4) is the Vatican.
Although the Fathers of the Church speculated on the Antichrist in various ways, they would never have agreed. They showed the temple to be the Jewish temple, rebuilt by Antichrist in Jerusalem. Rather than the bishop of Rome, the early Fathers identified the Antichrist as a government official—a king coming to power in the ruins of the Roman Empire. He would probably be Jewish, possibly from the tribe of Dan. And most importantly, rather than claiming like the pope to be the vicar or emissary of Jesus Christ, he would claim that Jesus was not the Christ but that he was instead. He would then seduce many of the Jewish people by attempting to fulfill the political.aspirations they held for the Messiah.
The quotes that follow illustrate both the different ideas they had about the Antichrist and how different their conception was from the anti-papal idea that arose in later centuries. What the Early Church Believed: The Antichrist | Catholic Answers Tract
Prophecies ordinarily announced two events, one to be accomplished relatively soon and the other at a later period. The shorter term prophecy was to increase confidence in the long term prophecy. An example of this is the prediction of Isaias that Nebuchadnezzar would destroy Jerusalem (came true) in juxtaposition with Isais prediction’ of the coming of Messiah. It is a false premise to set up an time limit for a future prophecy.
“Moreover to centuries” should be in quotes
Please note that you cited “Catholic answers tract” for evidence on response to my post of the Biblical evidence of who the Antichrist is.
When you claim the church father’s thought be would be Jewish, are you referring to leaders of the early Catholic church? If you go to the pre-Catholic era, Iraneus (a disciples of John’s disciple Polycarp) wrote that the Antichrist would be Roman, as the word for the “Romans” translates to 666 in both Greek and Hebrew.
The Bible provides no evidence that a third temple would be built. If you are of the Futurist school, which if you are catholic I assume you are, that interpretation was created in response to the Protestant Reformers correctly examining the evidence and seeing the papacy was the Antichrist (as I did in my post). The Jesuit Francisco Ribera intentionally misinterpreted Daniel’s 70 weeks prophecy (Dan 9:22-27) to make it seem that there was going to be a future Antichrist would would enter a rebuilt Temple. Verses 26 and 27, which clearly refer to Jesus, were misinterpreted and applied to a future Antichrist to hide the fact that the pope was the Antichrist. The Reformers finally were able to read the Bible after the printing press was invented, as the Catholic church had banned it and burned all copies of scripture they could find.
If they were a Christian church, why ban and burn the Bible? What were they trying to keep Catholics from discovering?
By their fruits you shall know them.
V. S. Soloviev examined the issue from all time periods and from all angles.
That’s straight up apostasy!
A profile in courage
Vigano has been all over Francis from the jump
https://www.catholic.com/video/did-the-vatican-excommunicate-archbishop-vigano
Vigano is a Protestant.
Oh, if Vatican II could die with him.
The Third Secret of Fatima, and its incomplete later revelation, seems inextricably connected to Vatican II.
The recent war on the old Mass has only deepened the Warning.
The war on the old Mass from Bergoglio and Kash’s FBI (he’s done nothing about it)
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. May Pope Francis, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
I have been listening to Raymond Arroyo. He is an insightful Catholic journalist with emphasis on the Vatican. He is somewhat like SD for Vatican reporting. He knows where to look and how to interpret what he sees.
He said that Pope Francis has packed leftist, ecclesiastical and secular, all over the Vatican hierarchy including those who write the rules on the selection of the Pope.
The next Pope will be radical since only that kind of Pope will be allowed to assume power.
Brace yourself. My Faith will not be tested. The Church, founded by Jesus himself, adheres to the same Precepts that He revealed.
My patience will be sorely tested by the deep state actors who HAVE penetrated the Church and attempt to change its very substance of its doctrine and mission.
In the end, we will prevail, but, it will hurt.
The Church is suffering a great apostasy.
Our Blessed Mother warned of this at Fatima, with the Third Secret directed to be revealed before 1960 …
… about the time of Vatican II, and the ‘fundamental transformation’ of His Church since.
But the foundations remain incorruptible and shall prevail, as they are The Lord Himself.
Pray to Mary, and pray to the Lord. This apostasy will pass.
President Trump delivered a wonderful Easter address to the Nation.
Asking all to come to God.
When we “pray to Mary,” we are asking for her intercession with the Lord. Just clarifying – Catholics believe the Lord God chose her to be the Mother of His Son. Any power that she has is one that has been given to her.
As Our Lord Jesus was dying on the Cross He said, “Behold your mother.” (John: 19)
Mary, Mother of Sorrows, hear our prayers.
She takes our prayers to her Son.
It brings me back to the Wedding Feast of Cana….she told her Son, they have no wine. Then she told the servants “Do what he tells you”.
And the best wine, was noted to be saved for last. The wine made from water.
Mary Queen of the Church, pray for us. Mary Queen of the Clergy, pray for them.
People ask their biological mothers to pray for them. The Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary is before the Throne of God and asks her Divine Son to help those who ask for her prayers.
Prayerfully requesting another Pope Leo 13th
For a good summary of the governance of the Church from now until a new Pope is elected, and of how that election is carried out, see: https://www.pillarcatholic.com/p/sede-vacante-what-happens-now-and
This Papal election may determine whether the Roman Catholic Church remains the Church or becomes merely an NGO. Prayers are in order.
NGO.
Never thought about it this way.
Excellent analogy.
Theatre.
May He rest in peace.
Sower of dischord.
Archbishop Charles Chaput just gave – more temperately than many here tend to be 🤗 – a cogent summary of what Jorge Bergoglio’s Papacy was like and what is needed now:
“I have personal memories of Pope Francis that I greatly value: a friendly and generous working relationship at the 1997 Synod on America when we were both newly appointed archbishops; his personal welcome and warmth at Rome’s 2014 Humanum conference; and the extraordinary success of his 2015 visit to Philadelphia for the Eighth World Meeting of Families. He devoted himself to serving the Church and her people in ways that he felt the times demanded. As a brother in the faith, and a successor of Peter, he deserves our ongoing prayers for his eternal life in the presence of the God he loved.
Having said that, an interregnum between papacies is a time for candor. The lack of it, given today’s challenges, is too expensive. In many ways, whatever its strengths, the Francis pontificate was inadequate to the real issues facing the Church. He had no direct involvement in the Second Vatican Council and seemed to resent the legacy of his immediate predecessors who did; men who worked and suffered to incarnate the council’s teachings faithfully into Catholic life. His personality tended toward the temperamental and autocratic. He resisted even loyal criticism. He had a pattern of ambiguity and loose words that sowed confusion and conflict. In the face of deep cultural fractures on matters of sexual behavior and identity, he condemned gender ideology but seemed to downplay a compelling Christian “theology of the body.” He was impatient with canon law and proper procedure. His signature project, synodality, was heavy on process and deficient in clarity. Despite an inspiring outreach to society’s margins, his papacy lacked a confident, dynamic evangelical zeal. The intellectual excellence to sustain a salvific (and not merely ethical) Christian witness in a skeptical modern world was likewise absent.
What the Church needs going forward is a leader who can marry personal simplicity with a passion for converting the world to Jesus Christ, a leader who has a heart of courage and a keen intellect to match it. Anything less won’t work.”
Amen!
This is along the right lines. Focus on what we are looking for in the next Pope. Differences will be obvious. He is in God’s hands now.
I noticed the “Change in Papal Burial Ritual … ” to specify the use of Red Vestments. This Pontiff was an egotistical Jesuit to the very end … Red vestments are used in the Catholic Church to symbolize the passion of Christ and the blood spilled in martyrdom by Him and Saints. Red is used for liturgical vestments on Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Pentecost, in the celebrations dedicated to the Passion of the Lord, in the feasts of the Apostles, the Evangelists and the Holy Martyrs. Red symbolizes the Holy Spirit and martyrdom.
He had none of the characteristics the Red Vestments represent.
Good Friday vestments are black
No they are not. Good Friday vestments are traditionally red.
Black vestments are “an option” at funeral services or “Masses for the Dead”.
I have personally NEVER seen black vestments used at any time.
I have seen the Black Vestments at Funerals and I have seen the Black Vestments worn on All Souls Day.

Like a lot of us Protestants, the Catholics have been dealing with a conservative laity having a liberal church leadership foisted upon them. Maybe this is an opportunity for that to change, but I won’t hold my breath. I don’t know the inner workings of the Catholic church, but I imagine it is not dissimilar to my Protestant denomination. The influence of urban and wealthier interests hold disproportionate sway over church politics.
The problem is that Bergoglio packed the College of Cardinals with Communists. I fear the next Pope will be even worse than Bergoglio was.
I pray not, but fear so.
Agree. And it was happening long before that. As with Bella Dodd.
https://www.ncregister.com/features/the-influence-of-fulton-sheen-converting-a-communist
“Dodd herself acknowledged that their most important demonic goal was to destroy the faith of the Catholic people by promoting a pseudo-religion of ‘social justice’ that looked like Catholicism but clearly was not.”

It seems more appropriate to offer these comments here from the “Presidential” topic:
De mortuis nil nisi bonum (Concerning the dead, (say) nothing unless (it is ) good) was an ancient idea from Greece (supposedly from a Spartan named Chilon), the phrase translated later by a monk into Latin.
I would rather say: De mortuis nil nisi veritas (Concerning the dead, nothing but the Truth!)
On that basis:
Bergoglio’s papacy was pockmarked by a continuous compromising with Evil, pushing the agenda of The Globalist Deep State (immigration, climate-change mania, homosexuality, etc;)
One of the proofs of the dead pope’s “Compromise-with-Evil” tenure is his deal with the Chinese Communists:
(From LifeSite News q.v.)
“...(The deal) is believed to recognize the state-approved version of the Catholic Church and allows the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to appoint bishops. The Pope apparently maintains a veto power although in practice it is the CCP that has control, as has been evidenced by repeated violations of the deal by the Chinese.
It also allegedly allows for the removal and replacement of legitimate bishops by CCP-approved bishops…
… emeritus bishop of Hong Kong Cardinal Joseph Zen, who repeatedly proffered his criticisms of the deal. He described the agreement as an “incredible betrayal,” and accused the Vatican of “selling out” Chinese Catholics.
The deal also led to a heightened increase in religious persecution, which the U.S. Congressional-Executive Commission on China described as a direct consequence of the deal.
In its 2020 report, the Commission wrote that the persecution witnessed is “of an intensity not seen since the Cultural Revolution….”
For a veritable litany of the compromises with Evil (e.g. bowing to the World Economic Fund and Soros, de facto approving Homosexuality and its agenda, etc.) during the Bergoglio (anti-)papacy, see the LifeSite News website.
1) HUH
2) Just WOW
3) Doesn’t look like the photographer works for the Vatican
Hmm, and Klaus Schwab has stepped down as WEF chair. Interesting it is on the same day.
Times be a’changing.
May he rest in peace.
(let me keep it short and sweet).
amen
VIGANO !!!!!
First, let me say I am not Catholic.
I will put a name out there:
Cardinal Pizzaballa of Jerusalem.
Jerusalem never had a pope until 2023. Pizzaballa is from Italy and served in Gaza.
It’s interesting reading.
https://ewtn.co.uk/article-pastor-of-only-catholic-church-in-gaza-never-have-we-seen-things-like-this-time/
https://www.americamagazine.org/politics-society/2023/09/28/pierbattista-pizzaballa-cardinal-latin-patriarchate-jerusalem-holy-land
Look for a state of Palestine.
…
Pizzaballa is a comic name to my ears, but Frances liked him, so there is that problem.
Should have said:
Jerusalem never had a Cardinal until 2023.
If he was appointed by Francis….thanks but no thanks.
Rev 20:11And I saw a Great White Throne and him sitting at the top of it, from whose face Earth and Heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, who stood before the throne, and scrolls were opened, and another scroll was opened, which is of The Judgment*, and the dead were judged from those things that were written in the scrolls, according to their works. 13And the Sea yielded the dead which were in it, and Death and Sheol yielded the dead which were with them, and they were judged, one by one, according to their works. 14And Death and Sheol were cast into The Lake of Fire- this which is the second* death. 15And whoever was not found inscribed in The Book of Life* was cast into The Lake of Fire.
“And they were judged, one by one, according to their works”.
In the 25th chapter of Matthew Christ talks about how we all will be judged.
The most important thing, and that which carries the heaviest weight of judgment, is how we treat our fellow man.
The Second Greatest Commandment.

I’m pretty sure there hasn’t been a legitimate pope since Benedict died. The Marxist put in place during an Obama era Vatican coup who promoted unending heresies and blasphemies was never the pope.
“He Will Have to Account for the Crimes He Has Committed” – Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò Publishes Scathing Response to News of Pope Francis’s Death
Arcivescovo Carlo Maria Viganò
@CarloMVigano
In 2018, Eugenio Scalfari reported the words that Bergoglio supposedly confided to him about his vision of the afterlife:
“Sinful souls are not punished: those who repent obtain God’s forgiveness and join the ranks of souls who contemplate him, but those who do not repent and cannot therefore be forgiven disappear. There is no hell, sinful souls simply disappear”.
It is on these people that the greatest responsibility for the outcome of the next “conclave” falls
Lord, may your will be Bishop Vigano to succeed.
Pope Francis Dies Behind His Walled Compound, Protected By His Swiss Guards.
They will pick a far-left progressive, more than Francis…pushing Chrislam
Very likely.
Francis packed the College of Cardinals with radical leftists.
Trump for Pope 2025
If President Trump were Catholic, that could in fact be a possibility, though a remote one.
