Canadian leftists have selected Mark Carney as their replacement for Justin Trudeau, Carney will be sworn in as Prime Minister shortly and complete the remaining segment of Trudeau’s term before new Canadian elections.
The only issue on the mind of voters in Canada is which candidate will fight U.S. President Donald Trump the hardest. Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has vowed to fight Trump harder than Mark Carney, but the leftists in Canada are now back on the ascendency and will dispatch the pontificating Poilievere shortly.
During his acceptance speech at the Liberal Party convention, a beaming Mark Carney promised to defeat President Trump and the Americans in the upcoming trade war. Carney noted, a sense of national pride has swept across Canada as the people unite in their hatred for everything Trump and everything American associated with him. WATCH:
In addition to tariffs against Canadian goods and services, U.S. President Trump has massive economic arrows in his quiver that can be deployed against the Canadian economy. Measures including larger tariffs (tariff reciprocity), financial sanctions, restrictions on Canadian investment in the USA, revocation of visa-free border crossing, forced divestiture of American asset holdings for the Canadian people (banking reciprocity), all the way to a full-throated embargo of all goods and travel from Canada are potential.
If that sequence of events ever happened, the Canadian government led by Prime Minister Mark Carney has vowed to respond in kind to Trump with identical action blocking any/all USA products, services and American citizens from entry into Canada. This approach would enable us to finally determine which nationalistic outlook will survive, Canada or the USA.
(Via Politico) – […] One of Carney’s first decisions will be whether or not to call a snap election in the middle of a trade war. He has identified Trump’s rolling tariff threats as an “economic and sovereign crisis.”
“The Americans want our resources, our water, our land, our country,” Carney said. “Think about it. If they succeed, they will destroy our way of life.”
Carney campaigned for the top job on his reputation as a disaster manager, arguing that he is the right person to take on Trump. He ran for the leadership against former Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, who has warned that how Canada deals with the president “will define us for a generation, and perhaps longer.”
Trump now tops the list of things Canadians are worried about, followed by jobs, inflation and the economy. About 90 percent of Canadians live within 150 miles of the U.S. border, and polls show the country of 40 million is increasingly angry at the U.S. president, who can’t seem to stop talking about annexing Canada. These next few weeks and months could be very interesting.

Good luck to you Carney you’ll need it
I sense that the breast beating bluster coming from the leading politicos in the far north is principally campaign posturing for the coming election of the PM.
A trade war with America will unequivocally eviscerate the Canadien economy, and Canadian citizens who don’ t already know it will quickly come to understand the harsh reality if it occurs.
The most dangerous potential outcome is success of both the leftist and conservative parties’ leading contenders for election to PM swaying the citizens to embrace their confrontational and demonizing rants against PDJT.
I accept that the President has unnecessarily, IMO, offended the Canadian populace with his demeaning of “the governor,” suggesting USA statehood, and the downplaying of the USA’s need for Canada as a trading partner.
However, I hope that a spirit of reconciliation between our two countries can overcome the current enmity, which diminishes an heretofore excellent relationship.
Trump has economic arrows in his quiver, but Canada has economic nukes which could devastate some of the US economy.
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre HAS NEVER vowed to fight Trump harder than left wing Liberal Marc Carney. Poilievre is walking a tightrope between fighting for Canada and not burning bridges with the US.
Americans fail to realize that Canada can turn off its electricity, natural gas and oil, which will be devastating for the US. Your electrical grid is currently running at 100% capacity.
Excess electricity from Ontario goes to some northern states almost free of charge. Sometimes, it is free. Quebec is also a major supplier of electricity to North east US. Without it, there will be cascading blackouts and brownouts, with permanent power outages in some regions. And, this does not include electricity also being cut off from Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Without Alberta natural gas and oil…..sold at a huge discount to the US…..the price of fuel in the US would increase in price, maybe even doubling. The American position in the world as the #1 exporter of hydrocarbon byproducts would vanish overnight.
Were Canada to shut these off, or put on massive surtaxes, the US economy would be plunged into a catastrophic recession due to the massive increase in energy costs for both industries and consumers. Meanwhile in Canada, energy prices would plummet because they would no longer be based on the US price.
Trump is backing Canada into a corner, giving Canada little or no choice but to retaliate. Trump’s policies could cripple both countries, leaving China the winner.
Bless your heart.
Bless yours, too! Facts and the truth are such a pesky things, aren’t they.
I have been posting a bit in this thread about how much the US economy depends on Canadian Commodities. Many don’t want to hear it.
Canada has always been a cheap, secure, dependable source of critical commodities right next door.
If Canada cut exports to US. Our economy would wither. Inflation would be Hyper. Material shortages would be common, fuel may even be rationed.
Then we have Mexico and South America. Who we depend on for food. 60% of fresh fruit and 40% of our vegetables are imported.
America imports 4 trillion dollars of goods a year. Why in the world would we want to start a Trade War?
The US is very dependent on some of Canada’s resources and commodities. And yes, people here are in full denial of this fact.
Ever think it might be a good thing for us to produce our OWN food and energy again and tell the foreigners to sod off? A positive balance of payments would be a damned good thing.
Do it. DO IT. CUT IT OFF. We’ll be hurt for a while until we increase our output. You’ll be screwed permanently as no one south of the border will EVER trust you to supply a damned thing again. DO IT! Shoot yourselves in the head to hurt the U.S. Show America just how “bright” you are.

Maybe not. From Redstate:
“Here’s where things get interesting, though, because it appears the Trump administration may have outfoxed the judge in this case. According to reports, Khalil was moved to an ICE detention center in Louisiana. Why is that important? Because while Furman issued his order based on Khalil’s New York petition for habeas corpus (i.e., that he be released pending further litigation), the law requires that the petition be filed in the federal court district the subject is being held in. If Khalil isn’t in New York anymore, and it seems fairly certain he isn’t, then Furman has no jurisdiction over the case.”

Blame Canada
“…a sense of national pride has swept across Canada as the people unite in their hatred…”
Well isn’t that special.
Just like the sick and depraved leftists here and around the world, our “neighbors” to the north are united in their hatred of us.
Cause President Trump is just in their way.
Yeah, the spoiled brats up north who’ve been ripping off their southern neighbors for decades are gonna have to live off less until they figure out how crappy their leadership really is, at which time they’ll be “re-thinking” their distaste for all things American. Won’t take long.
They think our money’s theirs – just like every other F-ing country in the world.
“Oh Canada” will soon think differently wh toen Canuck sales of their oil/gas, timber, milk, auto parts, etc are banned in America First.
$ talks,… their Marxist Canuck leaders will fail, then walk.
If no Free/Fair Trade,… then No Trade until their opinions improve. Cuz the USA can survive and thrive without them far more and longer than vice versa.
Calamity and shipwreck ahead for Canada.
I’ve liked most Canadians I’ve known, but I can see they are making a very serious mistake if they fight with Trump. They’ll be making an even worse one if they don’t dump the Libs.
Much of Canada admired Trump. He put an end to that.
No they didn’t! 90% of Canadians despise Trump. They’re lefty loons. They hate truth and goodness.
eff canada.
Telling an abuser that you are no longer going to tolerate the abuse tends to tick off the abuser. So yes, Canada admired Trump until he declined to no longer have Americans be abused by Canada. His willingness to defend Americans did put an end to the abuse by Canada and hence, their faux “admiration” for him.
Great analogy.
That or Stockholm Syndrome would work, too.
Then they didn’t really admire him.
Let ’em learn to code too! That trucker ordeal is still fresh in mind! They kin keep their whiskey too!
Just remember, their government and leftists are leeches, and they are not the patriotic Canadians who want the BS gone.
Canadian boycotts are gonna destroy their own…

We can be pretty damn self sufficient! Looking forward to our food prices coming down! All we need now is Mexico getting a hair up their @$$ too!
One thing a lot of Americans don’t understand about this election is that it was not a full all-party national election like our Presidential election was last November. This was one of those parliamentary system elections where only candidates for the leftist Liberal Party were on the ballot to replace Trudeau. And only registered Liberal Party voters were allowed to cast a vote. A lot of U.S. media go on to tar Trump by quoting polls in Canada saying Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre was doing so well before the tariff announcement and so poorly after the announcement, but he was not on the ballot. Under Canadian law the next national election where every party is running won’t be until October 20, 2025, although it could be called earlier under those same odd parliamentary system rules. So people should not pay too much attention to the noise about how the tariffs impacted this election. A lot can change between now and October 20.
Also, pretty much all Canada need to do to avoid these tariffs is to get a handle on the northern border as Trump is demanding. But the leftists in the Trudeau/Carney party don’t want to do that and so they will make Canada taste those tariffs. So Poilievre should run on that point and blame, blame, blame the Liberal Party for the tariffs between now and October.
Agree. And, the Conservatives are still leading slightly in the non-Liberal owned polls. They would win the federal election were it held today.
The election is most likely to called within the next week or so (for a vote in Spring) so that Canadians don’t get any time to realize that Carney is just as bad (if not worse) than Justin.
“…all Canada needs to do to avoid these tariffs is to get a handle on the northern border…”, “But the leftists…don’t want to do that and so they will make Canada taste those tariffs.”
Sounds like the perfect come-back to any Canadian who complains about what President Trump does.
Oh please Carney served as the 8th governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and the 120th governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020.
I’m sure dodgy business went on there like money laundering proceeds of Fentanyl sales for Hezbollah.
Apparently Canada is THE capital of the world’s money laundering operations
Musk should take a deep look into this .
Carney is also a WEF stooge.
America does NOT want Canada’s resources
Trump was taking the mickey out of Canada to get them to stop and they overreacted.
But at least Turdeau is gone, snivelling commie brat.
Pres Trump wants the fentanyl smuggling operations to stop and Carney is too stupid to realise this or blind to it-ie complicit.
Yesterday I post a whole lot of info of how corrupt Canada has become: This guy has a lot.

Can’t believe all the Chinese crap coming into the U.S. through Canada, that companies in the U.S. sell as though they are Canadian made products.
After all the abuse the people experienced during Covid under these lefties, it amazes me how they can support any of these guys.
Let it be known that Canada placed tariffs on China JUST LAST YEAR, calling China’s practices Unfair Trade Practices by none other than Chrystia Freeland, Ms. Let’s Nuke the US Cuz of Tariffs herself, the very same thing Trump is saying today….
Canada implementing measures to protect Canadian workers and key economic sectors from unfair Chinese trade practices

Second, the federal government intends to apply a 25 per cent surtax on imports of steel and aluminum products from China, effective October 15, 2024. This measure aims to protect Canada’s workers from China’s unfair trade policies and to prevent trade diversion resulting from recent actions taken by Canadian trading partners.
Canada has been in decline for a while now, with leftists in charge. But I have a hard time seeing how this escalating spat benefits anyone.
canada needs to stop the drug flow and the illegals. they need more gordon sinclair’s up there.
“…..I have a hard time seeing how this escalating spat benefits anyone.”
Divide and conquer. As the nation slowly pulls itself apart, the Chinese, and to a lesser extent the Mohammedans, busy themselves settling in amongst the debris.
The Canadians chose for this to be a spat. All they had to do is close down their borders to fentanyl and illegals coming into the USA.
They chose to serve their masters rather than be a good neighbor.

Tell that to the US dairy farmer who cannot sell his product across the border into Canada without paying a huge tariff (that have been there for generations!). But the Canadian dairy farmer can sell their product into the US either without tariff or with very low tariff…
Same story for the timber industry.
Still having a hard time seeing a benefit? Maybe it doesn’t benefit YOU is what you should have wrote?
Carney is undoubtably a dirt bag. That said I don’t understand the timing on tariffs. There are bigger fish to fry resetting Europe and getting ready for the coming confrontation with the CCP. A few months wait with the Canada situation may have seen a conservative government willing to cooperate towards even trading and a more secure border. Understand BC is becoming a Fentanyl hub- other ways to deal with that. Mexico seems to have complied with border requests. Granted I don’t have near the level of operational picture PDJT does. Just don’t understand the timing.
Prayers for our conservative brothers and sisters in Canada. I’ll never forget the truckers that set an example for the world. That was the first fight against the Borg and a signal to MAGA that we were not alone.
Snowdia and Sandia are forward operating elements of China’s war on the US, aided and empowered by the Crown which is behind the entire war on the West and a damned huge share of the East.
China and The Crown know very well PDJT knows, the Crown literally stepped in to install their worst man up North to deal with the crisis.
The battle is engaged, it is fascinating, and while some head scratching is to be expected, a lot of folks are playing disingenuous for . . . reasons.
The pretense is real.
And you really can’t blame China. We did try to destroy them — fairly successfully — with opium at one point, but you can blame Canada for playing along as long as they’re getting their payday.
Not the US, and two centuries ago. We liberated them from Japan. Their intense racism clouds their thinking. Somebody wise should exploit this weakness.
I never signed onto the Opium Wars.
I don’t believe America did either.
I do indeed understand the effectiveness of citing that a their One Hundred Years of Humiliation museum in order to build resentment and justify the aggressions against the entire West, it’s effective, but I don’t buy it.
The Crown did it!
They love their poppy pins!
The game is afoot.
the american voter finally stood up. the corruption and theft of our tax dollars being exposed will seal the fate of the fourth branch of government here. i think we are a signal to those truckers that they aren’t alone.
Canada is a battlefield between US and China. Trump speaks to CCP through Canada, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela. Trump is not deceived or corrupted by China.

Canadian leftist socialist leaders are now going to blame Trump for all the problems they themselves caused on the Canadian people? RICH. And most Canadians believe this? We do not want their water, land and resources, we have our own oil, gas, lumber and we make cars in America. So how long will it be before the Canadian people realize that we have no beef with their gvt, but just want them to level the playing field and remove triple digit tariffs on our goods that Canada has always placed on us. And how about us cancelling the billions of dollars we send Canada for free and putting the Canadian economy in a tailspin? Come on Canadians, wake up and understand what is REALLY going on here. If you are really that confused ask your fellow Canadian, Viva Frei.
after the trucker protests and the nut job freeland taking bank accounts of people and the government of canada ,trudeau, backing that, i don’t care if the canadian political system survives. same for the E.U.
Sundance, did POTUS make a mistake teasing Canada as much as he has or was he actually hoping he’d gett this idiot? Frankly, another Trudeau is both good for us but bad as well.
400 thou Liberal members were registered to vote.
There were 151 thou votes with 249 thousand disqualified to install Carney in place of Trudeau.
The man worships at the altar of EU Green Globalism.
This isn’t Canadians vs Trump, this is the EU/UN using Canada as a proxy to fight Trump.
Canadians are being manipulated. The media created a fight-Trump/USA propaganda mantra.
Now all politicians are exploiting this to win the coming federal election.
They aren’t thinking about the good of Canadians. Only Maxime Bernier and the small Peoples Party didn’t buy into this gamed Trade War.
Trump should immediately demand the opening of the USMCA for renegotiation and deal with all tariffs and charges at the table, taking this issue out of the media.
This will force Canadian leaders to obey common sense and negotiate.
Canada is a vassal of China. China is at war with the US. Canada just chose the wrong side. Regrettable.

Let me be clear… Alberta will never agree to such an absurd and self destructive idea.
It’s not an option. I’m not going to agree to do something that will cost hundreds of thousands of Albertans (and Canadians) their jobs almost overnight.
That would be like placing export tariffs on Ontario auto parts. Also a bad idea.
There are many effective ways that Canada and Alberta can work together to pressure the U.S. President to change course on tariffs – THAT is not one of them… period.

Carney said. “Think about it. If they succeed, they will destroy our way of life.”
They are destroying their way of life all on their own. Anyone who has bee paying attention to Canada knows that they have thrown the doors open to Muslims and other invaders, and they are overrunning the nation, much like what is happening in Ireland, France, Sweden, Germany, and the UK. The whole lot of them are on a fast track to wreck and ruin. That is part of the reason why any thought of annexing Canada would be foolish.
Great idea Canada, replace one loser with another loser. That will surely provide dividends…not.

Green card holders are resident aliens, not citizens.
Under 8 USC 1227, they are deportable for endorsing terrorist activity, persuading others to endorse terrorist activity, or support for a terrorist organization. The US government recognizes Hamas as a foreign terrorist organization. Many of the illegal acts committed at Columbia & Barnard meet the definition of a terrorist activity.
Injuring school staff, vandalism, barricading inside buildings, and preventing students from attending classes are NOT examples of Free Speech. They have no Constitutional protections. 25% of Canada’s GDP depends on exports to the USA. Less than 2% of U.S. GDP depends on exports to Canada.
Canada cannot win a trade war with the U.S.
Frankly, Trump shouldn’t have done anything with tariffs on Canada until he launches reciprocal tariffs. That is easy to understand and will play with Americans. Equal tariffs, seems fair and just.
Big tariffs to stop fentanyl? 98% of all fentanyl comes through the southern border not Canada.
I think you’ll find “98% of all fentanyl comes through the southern border” is what they want you to think.
Much like the oft stated “there are 11 million illegals in America.”
Indeed.
Success by the government is facilitating smuggling does lead to low interdiction numbers.

in a phrase that has recently become the go-to response to such things….Carney doesn’t have the cards. Math here isn’t hard so you start with what we export to Canada in gross versus what we import from Canada in gross. Canada can go so far in the extreme as to apply a 100% tariff on US imports while simultaneously refusing to sell into the most profitable consumer market in the world and because the math is simple, it would result in net US economic growth.
Carney’s is a globalist and a WEFer. Nothing new for our Canadian friends, eh?
Yeah because Canada has so much that we Americans want. I don’t drink their crap whiskey or use any products from Canada. Let’s get it on.
I agree. I don’t buy anything made in Canada.
I do watch Hallmark Christmas movies and they’re all made on location in Canada as are too many TV shows (Psych; Jesse Stone movies and so on) . It always annoys me when a show claims to be showing Cape Cod and it’s really British Columbia or New York and it’s really Toronto.
The Food Professor
@FoodProfessor
EXCLUSIVE: Receive many letters about dairy, but this one caught my attention. It is confidential information from someone inside the dairy industry who wishes to remain anonymous.
What they shared raises serious questions about how supply management is really working in Canada. And taxpayers should pay attention.
➡️Dairy farmers get quota for free—a valuable asset they can turn around and sell at full market price for $24,500 to $55,000 per unit. The more they get, the more they profit.
➡️Over the last 10 years, quota has increased massively. This means farmers can produce more milk without paying for the right to do so. Some farmers cash in by selling this free quota at market price. Boards never disclose this.
➡️They also get incentive days—extra milk production without quota. That’s more revenue on top of a system already designed to guarantee their profits. Sometimes, surpluses are dumped.
➡️Even though the industry has seen record-high milk production, farmers have received huge taxpayer-funded compensation payments for trade deals like CUSMA & CETA. Politicians are always misled about losses due to trade deals.
➡️Why? They claim these deals hurt them. But the numbers tell a different story. Import quotas aren’t even being filled. One of the reason Trump is upset with Canada. Yet, the government keeps cutting cheques. Politicians have no clue how this system works. They rubber-stamp payouts while one of the strongest lobbies in Canada (

I have to admit, I’m so perplexed by all this talk about Canada being our dear friend. This is honestly news to me. I’ve always just considered them a generally cordial neighbor, nothing more nothing less. All this crying about how they’ve been wronged is not resonating at all in my mind. I went from having a primarily neutral viewpoint to a strongly unfavorable one. If I see something made in Canada, I’m putting it right back on the shelf. I’m not that far from a seasonal tourist area, and it never seemed like anyone there had a great impression either. The servers can tell you what great tippers they are!
We have to endure Hosers every time we get on the highway near where we live to go shopping down in “the BIG CITY” with all the Canadians blowing past us …
Said Canucks are some of the worst wanna’ be 3rd world drivers I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen many (most?) of ’em from Mombasa to Manila and back — speeders, tailgaters, generally crappy drivers, little/no “smarts” or judgement and they think the gas pedal is an “ON/OFF” switch as they’re going 75-90 in a 70 mph zone … situation “normal” …
Suggestion: if this is a “trade war” close the Canadian … and Mexico (?) … borders and see how our “neighbors” to the North and South like it … I’m guessing they won’t like the result.
Something I spotted from a commenter on SD’s X feed:
————-
Current Canadian tariffs on US products:
Milk: 270%
Cheese: 245%
Butter: 298%
Chicken: 238%
Sausages: 69.9%
Barley Seed: 57.8%
Bovine/meat: 26.5%
Cars: 25%
HVAC: 45%
Vacuums: 35%
Cable boxes: 35%
TVs: 45%
Steel: 25%
Aluminum: 45%
Copper: 48%
———–
In addition to the above, now the Canadian 25% retaliatory tariffs (linked below), which were effective 2/4/25, “should be read in conjunction with the Schedule to Canada’s Customs Tariff.”
Retaliatory tariffs:
https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/news/2025/02/list-of-products-from-the-united-states-subject-to-25-per-cent-tariffs-effective-february-4-2025.html
And that’s what makes me so angry. Do you hear anything from our communist MSM or the sleazy business crowd about all the tariffs imposed on us? Not a word! Yet they have the audacity to scream and squeal at any mention of the word tariff. Let me get this right…every other country can impose tariffs on our goods, but if we do the same, the world will come to an end. It’s going to be a rough ride over the next couple of months.
They will not talk about it because truth ruins the agenda..
We do not want Canada as a state or province.
Just a conquered territory…
Not even that.
Things just heated up…

@realDonaldTrump
Despite the fact that Canada is charging the USA from 250% to 390% Tariffs on many of our farm products, Ontario just announced a 25% surcharge on “electricity,” of all things, and your not even allowed to do that. Because our Tariffs are reciprocal, we’ll just get it all back on April 2. Canada is a Tariff abuser, and always has been, but the United States is not going to be subsidizing Canada any longer. We don’t need your Cars, we don’t need your Lumber, we don’t your Energy, and very soon, you will find that out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!

This British Columbian gives President Trump 👍👍
Cheers!
I wonder how Canadian truckers feel about all of this. How do you think a trucker gets from Vancouver to Montreal? And then there is the steady stream of trucks heading south from Winnipeg. How many supply lines would vanish if they were cut off from the gulf ports?
Defeat what? Canadians please understand: your liberal party is now blaming Trump for all of their failed liberal policies under Trudeau. You need to put Canada first, not fight the US in a battle you will surely lose. Do not take the bait.
I think there are about 30% of Canadians that understand what is at stake and are fed up with the government we have in Canada. The rest do need to be awakened to the threats of the progressives that are responsible for the mess that most Americans are waking up to themselves. It was the Canadian Truckers that alerted the world to the tyranny of the leftists in all ‘western’ countries.
As a Canadian, I trust that the U.S. will show us through their example of cleaning up the mess left to all of us by the intellectuals in American Universities, the cesspool of Hollywood, etc. as to what the best way out of the mess so many countries are on. Remember the Biblical admonition, Pride goes before a fall. Telling the truth rather then throwing stones is the answer going forward. Trump is a truth teller but is known to be kind and not vindictive when treating those he disagrees with. I would hope all citizen’s of MAGA would follow his example.

Thank you.
BEING RIPPED OFF BY CANADA, NO ONE EVER TALKS ABOUT THAT
I didn’t get a vote to elect Carney as PM. As far as I’m concerned he’s not the duly elected Canadian PM. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Till he is elected by the people he’s a conman impersonator pretending to head the nation but then that’s how the Lieberals roll.
