Consider this an escalation once President Trump is briefed. Overnight, someone, claimed by media to be Ukraine, launched a targeted series of drone attacks against the KINEF oil refinery in the Leningrad region of Russia.
The refinery is approximately 800 to 1,000 kilometers from where western intelligence operators are assembled to support Ukraine. This distance means someone within NATO has violated President Trump’s order to withdraw ‘long-range’ targeting system operation, and/or someone within NATO has provided an alternative. [SEE MAP]
When President Trump stopped “intelligence sharing” with Ukraine, what he technically did was stop allowing Ukraine to use exclusive USA targeting systems controlled by U.S Intelligence, the CIA, the National Reconnaissance Office and the U.S. National Geospatial Intelligence Agency.
These terrain mapping systems, the missile and drone targeting systems, are what military forces inside Ukraine need to carry out offensive drone and missile attacks against Russian forces. However, two drones were launched on the night of Saturday March 8th and were shot down as they approached the KINEF refinery, damaging one external oil tank.
Who launched them, and what targeting system was used?

On the night of March 8, the KINEF oil refinery in Kirishi, Leningrad region of Russia, was attacked by drones.
“The UAV attack on KINEF in the Kirishi district has been repelled. Air defense forces shot down one drone on approach, and the other was destroyed over the plant’s territory,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to the governor, the debris from the downed drone damaged the external structure of one of the tanks. There were no reported casualties.
It is worth noting that the Kinef oil refinery (Kirishinefteorgsintez) is one of the largest in Russia. (more)

The drones were launched from Ukraine?
The KINEF refinery is quite a long distance from the Western Ukraine region under the control of Zelenskyy and NATO allies. Beyond the issue of who controlled the drones, how was the drone targeting system used and who provided it?

And a large refinery is not moving anywhere – it’s a large fixed target whose coordinates have been probably known for years.. It probably hs a very unique radar and infrared signature too.

Oil refineries aren’t mobile. If Ukraine had access to geospatial data for several years, it’s plausible that they already possessed everything needed to plan and launch this attack, and many others. Perhaps the exact mission had already been worked out to the last detail. Without other evidence, it is not possible to conclude that this attack means NATO or anyone else provided support in violation of Trump’s order.
Evidence is likely being collected on the surrounding ground. Will it be publicly shared?

And only using 2 drones looks like a futile effort to do damage to irritate the Russians. You can hardly call it a serious attack–more like a Z maneuver trying to jinx a ceasefire and/or peace talks.
Could it have been launched from Norway? We saw the news that Norway was going to deny fuel to USN ships in a reaction to President Trump in the aftermath of the Zelenskyy meeting in the Oval Office.

Undoubtedly, as noted in several good comments above, Ukraine has had years to pick targets and load flight paths. Should these drones be capable of following the unscrambled GPS signals available to a student pilot in a Cessna 172, everything necessary to conduct this attack would likely have been available even on Google Earth.
Clearly, that fact is not good news.
Why keep playing these games? They will do anything, ANYTHING to keep this war going and escalate it. Europe has no cards and neither does Ukraine. Withdraw from NATO and let the Europeans figure themselves out. Strike a deal with Russia and wish our frenemies good luck! Enough with this cat and mouse game. The UK has sent Ukraine the first of 3 payments. The amount sent in this first loan to Ukraine is $971 million (752 million pounds) secured by the income from frozen Russia assets.
Not to be outdone, the French have sent $210 million (195 million Euros) also secured with income from frozen Russian assets.
They want to get the benefit of that money and Ukraine has been eager to get their hands on that money from frozen Russian assets. It’s stealing, but they don’t care because it’s going to be laundered into their pockets one way or another.
Ukrainian formations launched two HIMARS missiles at a market in Velikiye Kopany, Kherson region. There are dead and many wounded civilians.
The satellite targeting for the American HIMARS missiles, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces used today to attack the market in the Kherson region, was carried out from French reconnaissance vehicles.
After the United States deprived the Armed Forces of Ukraine of access to its satellite constellation, French intelligence assumed “leadership” in this matter and is actively testing the compatibility of its systems with the American HIMARS MLRS and ATACMS missiles.
The goal is to restore the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to use these missiles after the Americans leave.
This tells me that the Europeans are doing everything to undermine and oppose peace in Ukraine. By the time we get the two groups in Riyadh, the Ukrainians may well have decided they don’t need the US at all and scuttle all talks with the US.
