If you have followed the arc of Tech, Peter Thiel recruiting JD Vance, the creation of Palantir, the funding of Vance’s senatorial run, and eventually the roadmap to connect Vance to Trump, this is a video speech you absolutely must not miss. JD Vance was sent to the AI Summit for a reason.
JD Vance talks at the AI summit in Paris, France, about his core mission, his core purpose inside current political influence. This is the very origin of his legacy, unfolding in real time. Vice-President JD Vance talks about Artificial Intelligence, the future and the Trump administration position.
Vice President JD Vance warned European leaders against heavily regulating U.S. tech companies and said excessive efforts by the European Union to regulate artificial intelligence could stymie its growth, during an AI summit in Paris Tuesday that marks his first foreign trip since taking office. WATCH:
.
Do you feel more or less confident about the future, having watched these remarks?

Musk has said AI is dangerous yet he promotes AI?😳 something doesn’t smell right.🦨
Skynet summits aplenty.
AI is self promoting to benefit itself to take over.
Its almost similar to what the hipster pelosi said. We got to pass the bill to see whats in it before we know.
We got to warp speed AI and let it takeover before we find out it can and will.🤨
All sorts of things are dangerous, driving a car for example. But we don’t forgo driving in cars, just because its dangerous.
And its not at all hypocritical for him to say “in the wrong hands, its dangerous, hence I want to be involved.
however, driving a dangerous car does not endanger the globe.
Whatever that means!
I believe slowcobra is mearly pointing out the disparity of impact to the world, of AI vs driving a dangerous car, perhaps inferring greater caution is warranted for AI than the analogy from Dutchman.
Maybe Zelensky could use them effectively.
Doesn’t mention how many were killed by THIS car, lol
No vehicle ever killed anyone. It is the driver who operates the vehicle into a lethal incident who is 100% at fault. Even vehicle mechanical failures that result in death can be traced back to human error.
Mitch McConnell’s sister-in-law would like a word with you…oh, wait!
Last thing she heard: “I’m sorry, I can’t let you do that, Angela.”
For a proper analogy, apples to apples – how many of the 32,367 people were killed by the above mentioned assault vehicle , the Cobra? It appears that they are suggesting the horsepower of the vehicle is too blame – hence ban the 470 HP.
Leave my cars alone.
The better analogy is nuclear weapons. US leadership ultimately made the world more or less safe? If you assume that AI is inevitable then I prefer a future where the US leads … as long as we can preserve our constitutional republic!
I agree, and as a weapon, AI can be equally as devastating.
That was the rationalization the Manhattan Project scientists (many of them pacifists) told themselves: that somebody was going to develop atomic weapons sooner or later, that the NAZIs were already working on the technology, so better they help the USA develop them first instead of becoming their first target.
Those same arguments are being used today for AI: AI is coming soon regardless, China and other evil regimes are working hard on AI, better that the US takes the lead in AI rather than somebody else.
In hindsight it was clear the NAZIs were not making much progress on atom bombs. Atomic weapons might never have been developed at all had the USA not put so much money and effort into them.
Actually those same arguments were also used to justify Gain-of-Function germ warfare research. They all told themselves it would be better to develop ultra-lethal pathogens in a lab so they could study them beforehand.
The argument seems to make sense. It fools a lot of very smart people. But the track record is not good.
Nuclear weapons do. We aren’t about to give them up.
But, yes. We need to proceed cautiously and not bury our head in the sand while everyone else
also develops it.
agree. AI isn’t going anywhere, so the USA should take the lead.
AI has many different meanings. I recommend listening to/watching this Lex Fridman interview. The two guys he interviews are deep in the AI space and discuss various high and low level issues along with what Deep Seek means to China’s pursuit. It’s good stuff:
Thank y0u for posting this link. I have only started watching, but already have some gems like “it is not AI that steals your data; it is the company that hosts that data.” We need to understand the real control points if we are going to guard against abuse.
Yes, in the Ashlee Vance Elon Musk biography, Musk told Vance he was concerned with Larry Page’s lack of concern about needing guardrails for robots/AI. He even said that he believes Page has only good intentions but that isn’t enough for Musk.
I highly recommend listening to/reading the book.
That book was published in 2015. Elon hasn’t changed his view.
I’ve just finished the 2023 biography by Walter Isaacson. Indeed, Elon does maintain his view that AI must be controlled by humans so as not to harm humans and expresses it numerous times as one of his primary concerns. As a matter of fact, I believe its one of the primary reasons for his recent drive to purchase OpenAI. Elon wants to take the consumer AI fight to Larry Page of Google, who considers anyone who favors protecting humanity as “specist,” a derogatory term he uses to describe anyone who favors human life over artificial “life.”
Yep!
haha!
Driving a car is a poor analogy to SkyNet.
True. Cars actually exist.
our government has been and is dangerous in the wrong hands……..for decades……until President Trump and
his band of merry warriors
…caution is always warranted.
Big difference between driving a car and creating an AI powered surveillance system lol.
We all realize that the problem is – AI will be around long after Vance, and it is increasingly becoming far more ubiquitous than Vance or any one person or few people can monitor or control.
Vance and those sharing his professed approach to “good uses only” oversight will not always be in a position to police the usage of AI to prevent it from destroying all remaining vestiges of privacy and freedom of choice and life in America (or anywhere).
These people may be starry-eyed about AI but IMO they are either dangerously naive or dangerously disingenuous about their goals.
Yet, perhaps a good AI program can be developed that will seek out and destroy your information from prying eyes?
I’m pretty sure they already have that. That’s how they are able to wipe the entire internet clear of any and all posts or records of Matthew Crooks and every other suspect who committed crimes for them under their directions / guidance / influence…..
Agree Dutch. On the contrary he was advocating for US involved guardrails to prevent development of dangerous use cases.
I also liked that he addressed head on the notion of using AI to make workers more productive and not to replace them.
Musk has always advocated caution. He broke with Sam Altman and the group over ethical reasons. Musk wants restraint and oversight to be applied. He has sued OpenAI to slow things down. Musk is not the bad guy here. Do your homework.
Tucker says FOX bad, but …
Musj said that because that company was his competitor.
He has said it often, for a long time.
AI is here to stay and yes, it can be dangerous if not controlled properly; hence, Trump’s USA needs to be the controller. What’s so hard to understand about this?
My issue isn’t that Trump creates it. The question is who will after he’s gone?
Every President in office…
It can not be controlled any more than code. It must be open source at a minimum, (profit free to make most want it) with may laws, and a good AI to enforce those laws.
It’s called eliminating competition. He has his own AI company and he hates Sam Altman. Elon has stated humans will need to become cyborgs in order to keep up with AI. Create the problem and sell the solution. He’s a transhumanist after all.
Sam wants it to be for profit, not open source, and does not care about protective privacy laws.
Don’t forget that warp speed AI is what turned the Dimms and Rinos 1500 page continuing resolution before PDJT was inaugurated into a 120 pg CR that expires in April. Too much wailing and teeth gnashing by the Dimms.
The Dimms can never say ” you have to vote on it to find out what is in it.”
AI is a fast reader.
Some days I don’t trust what anyone says!
Curious: does he wear eyeliner?
I’ve known a very small number of people, all men, who have eyes like that. Their lashes are very black and very close together.
It’s a phenotype or something.
My 25 y/o granddaughter has the same eyelashes. Looks like she is wearing eyeliner. Lucky her…
“Phenotype” is the word of the day. Take your cue…WORDMAN™
I can’t trust what anyone says either…But I trust God, and thats all I need.
I’m with you…..GOD’s got this!
‘Do you feel more or less confident about the future, having watched these remarks?’
Our future is screwed.
Trump could have stopped this.
no he couldn’t. Slowed it perhaps but it is for ordained.
How could Trump have stopped “this”?
I don’t think the leader of the free world should be stifling innovation.
You’re correct. AI is actually making people dumber and it has lied to researchers and pushed itself to the point where it breaks the system it’s contained in. Not that it breaks out, but it can brick a computer, but nooo we need to create Skynet. For some reason.
Clearly, the toaster is at fault when someone sticks a fork in it. But please, do go on about how we’re all careening toward a Terminator-style apocalypse because of autocomplete on your phone.
It’s coming whether you want it to or not. Best thing is for the US to control it and it is best that we ( MAGA) control the US.
.
A thousand thumbs up.
.
I imagine pro-liberty developers using AI to check government. AI is not a one-way street of control. It can also be a tool for the preservation of the Union, and the freedom of citizens.
And when Elon decides MAGA needs punching in the face, then what? So easy to convince sheep to elect a pedophile, heck, they already did once!
We can’t even control judges.
I wish these people would get control over their own lives and stop wanting to control mine.
I’d rather chip in on their psychiatric care than give up my freedom.
I don’t have time to listen. What did he say that tells you he wants control over your life?
Don’t be silly, we all know where AI is headed. Bank account married to health account, married to social media account, and everyone in your circle of friends. It is SPYING for control.
At the supermarket checkout in 10yrs …But I swear the doughnut is for my daughter! Sorry sir, your health account says you are type 2 and we cannot serve you the doughnut. Etc
“Swindler”: Musk And Altman Throw Punches After Musk-Led Group Leads $97.4 Billion Bid For Control Of OpenAI
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/musk-led-group-leads-974-billion-bid-control-openai
The American worker, the American worker, the American worker…
Did an EO go out to cancel H1B and I missed it? Because the last I heard the people behind this AI push had demanded more foreign workers, and support the F1 visas that have crowded out Americans.
So is Vance lying, or do we now put America first again?
Yeah, didn’t Musk say he would go to war for that?
BTW, a new segregation has set into hi-tech areas. At their place of work, businesses, schools, neighborhoods, etc.
That, and we’re supposed to do something with our faces.
When Vance came into public view, he was funded for his Senate race by the very people who had it in for Trump the first time around.
The tech community did all they could to smear The Donald and aid/abet the leftists to try to bring him down. Once Vance was discussed as a protentional running mate for Trump, those same Tech giants become a friend of Trump and donated a boat-load of money to ensure the Trump/Vance ticket won.
I remarked to my wife that he seemed too good to be true, and was deeply connected to some of the very people who would seem to be the enemy of America and what she stands for.
Now he is touring and touting the programs that will make his benefactors richer and institute a more complete surveillance state here at home.
Trump will only be in office for 4 years. Then Vance will have 8 years to ensure implementation of this kind of pernicious technology into every aspect of our daily lives. At that point, his anointed successor, whoever that may be, will have another 8 years in office to codify and ensure we are fully monitored and complainant society.
I like J.D. But I do not trust him. Came from nothing, served his country. All well and good. But, then attends Harvard? Happens to meets Peter Thiel? Who gives him a job? Where he becomes moderately wealthy? Then ‘decides’ to run for the Senate? Then after one term as a Senator, decides to run as Trump’s VP and spends his next year as a Senator running for the number two slot? And now is the one ‘a heartbeat away from the Oval Office?
Folks – this is a little too pat. I pray for our country, but am feeling increasingly uneasy about the direction this all seems to be heading.
The thing I like best about AI is that it can be used against our enemies, as seen by Musk and his crew. I’m sure, given the facts, stuff has come out concerning the misuse by the republican party as well as the democrats. The machine doesn’t care. It does what its told to do.
In a lotta cases – a lotta cases! – so do humans.
His background has a lot in common with another one suddenly on the scene, Barack Hussein Obama.
We only had two choices.
Sundance or Brian in TN? I’m confused
I like the idea that AI does not know democrat or republican as it travels through the web. Unless, of course, the person using it gives that direction. My thoughts always goes back to Adam and Eve in the garden. Perfection all around yet they can’t stop themselves from eating of the fruit. No matter how great the product, someone will always be there to misuse it.
No worries…
I’m sure they’ll put a warning label on it…
Trust God.
Fear not.
Do not use during a lightning storm or something like that?
Well, I’m glad the apple was there, ’cause now I’m here.
Less
AI is here to stay, how do we keep China from stealing all our work and R/D in the field is the bigger concern.
We allow China to fund Confucius centers on our top college campuses!
Most of the top University of California (UC) campuses have large percentages of Chinese national students. Seventy percent of international UC students are from China.
“The UC system hosts many Chinese scholars and students, and receives billions of dollars in federal grants.”
Why does the UC do this? As state support for the UC plummeted, the ten campuses admitted more international students who pay double the tuition rate (out of state) fees.
They are huge in the sciences, so they are there w our researchers in physics, math, computer science, etc.
I’m now 100% convinced that The Terminator is a documentary. AI reminds me a lot of nuclear power. No going back till we’re driven back. God’s will > human ‘progress.’
This. You can split an atom and light the world or make bombs. We need to make the right choices.
The Terminator is one scenario if many if what could happen with AI. Sounds like you expect the worst possible outcome. While that outcome is a real possibility we are better off if we focus our energy on how to optimize this technology for what is good and Right. We are in a war against evil. We know evil will try to appropriate and use this technology todo terrible. Let not our own depression and pessimism further it along. Someone told me years ago, “Anything that can be used for evil can be used for good (and vice versa).” That means any skill or ability. This genie cannot be put back in the bottle. Evil is already planning to use it to enslave mankind. Let us use it to free mankind. I don’t think we have a choice.
India’s president will ask Trump to OK more #H1B white-collar migrants when they meet on Feb. 13/14.
https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2024/12/28/h-1b-uproar-obscures-vast-workforce-other-white-collar-migrants/
The thing about AI is it still needs humans to align it. That is, correct mistakes. Where are most of these people? India and Africa. Makes you wonder why they want them here so bad.
The word is out in the Indian community that it is already a done deal.
Modi will take back the 35 thousand or so criminal Indian element here for unlimited H-1B Indian visa’s to America.
Not unlimited, and you know that.
However think a bit. The US does not live in a vacume. A major and necessary step for Trump is to counter China, and a strong India is essential. Also Russia and India get along well, and Russia is working with China, but trusts India far more. The proper alignment of Russia, India and China, may well be essential to prevent a third WW.
India is historicaly, perhaps more then any other nation, non aggresive. Trump will leverage any such concession to mutually benficial deals that will present opportunties for Americs economic interest in an ever more prosperous India. Trust the art of the deal President in this. Also it is true, under Obama Biden screwed our education system and produced many with education, yet very poor work ethics and liberal ideology. Musk later admitted, there are needed improvements in the work visa program, yet Trump and Him see eye to eye here.
I should add that countering BRICS, or even better, working with BRICS for mutually beneficial deals is also essential.
Clearly, JD is all in.
My worry has always been with regard to the Law of Unintended Consequences.
He aspires to see AI develop within a framework that he approves of and checks all of the boxes in terms of limiting AI’s scope.
The problem is very few people at that conference share his world view and are chomping at the bit to turn AI into a weapon.
The powers that be have every intention of using that weapon against us.
Short of not building any AI in the first place, the best counter to a bad AI is another AI.
Which of course necessitates creating the best AI to have an advantage.
AI purely in the hands of the already powerful is less than ideal given the ease of control it can give. How about making it accessible to the common man? At least then the majority could have some means to defend themselves from others who would otherwise use it against them with impunity.
And for anyone that is interested, the show with Jim Caviezel in “Person of Interest” was an excellent show showing exactly this. The funding was cancelled despite its great popularity. I wonder why?
You either believe that God is control or not.
Man will do what man will do,and it was evil in the sight of God.
Over and over and over again.
Thankfully,God has always put it to right:-)One way,or another.
Some of you already know what I think but Im trying real hard not to hurt the feels
Wow…they both smile and can clap their hands.
Pure evil.
Does this help?
Im trying real hard.
Next will be a NAZI salute.
Evidently we are supposed to feel better if Skynet is under US control when it decides to eliminate all the humans like in the terminator movie.
Why would any country / union not want their own AI? Why would they defer to U.S. tech companies? 🤔
agreed, and I do not think they will.
JD has earned the title of “The Greatest Salesman in The World”. I have zero trust and faith in him, more than ever.
He certainly just read everyone in the world sitting there the riot act, while laying out in no uncertain terms that AI is coming, tough shit for you, we own it, your using it and if you use it for nefarious purposes against your people, there was some vague reference to paying the price for it.
Am I suppose to feel grateful that the United States is the AI BOSS of the world, while they shove it down my throat??
I’m not sure, these f-ing idiots have thought this through.
Thank you, Ma. I noticed the same thing.
I actually took handwritten notes. My first note says: “The United States is apparently the self-appointed leader of the new world government.”
With re to salemanship, he said (re excellence in AI development), “….our schools will teach….” My written note says, “LOL. Our schools can’t even graduate students who read at an 8th grade level.” (….so the solution [i.e., Oregon] is to no longer require reading skills to graduate–easy-peasy)
His closing story about handling LaFayette’s sabre yesterday was interesting, since he didn’t mention the fact that the muslims who are destroying France are more than willing to use such sabres against French citizens, in a very personal way.
If US is the newly self-appointed leader of the new world order, this must be its eastern hemisphere office:
https://metro.co.uk/2025/01/20/inside-new-1000000000-mega-fortress-us-embassy-10-times-bigger-than-londons-22394348/
What needs to be done? Do we need congress to pass a law that explicity reiterates our right to digital privacy. Our right to our data and biometric privacy. Not to be data scraped, not to be AI monitored, not to be “anonomously surveyed”…. is this an executive order issue? Letting the public know that we have a right to privacy and this includes digital?
I’d like some instruction of what needs to be done to protect our data and our right to not be surveillance. The best shot at securing our liberty in this situation?
A constitutional amendment as a STARTING point would be my vote. 99% of the lawmakers are clueless as to what digital privacy even means, much less entails.
“Do we need congress to pass a law that explicity reiterates our right to digital privacy. Our right to our data and biometric privacy.”
Yes.
Right after they pass the law eliminating the Patriot Act/702 or at least modify it to require a conventional warrant to utilize.
…and keep cash!!!
I think the US is well intentioned here, yet my goodness, the world does not trust the US after the last few democratic yahoos, and for very very good reasons. AI will be very hard for anyone to control. It will take good AI to protect privacy and root out government surveillance. China and many BRICS nations will develope their own. as will most all.
@sundance I don’t like the future after PDJT #47 it looks like warp speed towards digital id’s, digital currency, brain implants etc… basically we are going to become The Borg from Star Trek The Next Generation. It seems like #47 is a distraction for us and the world to show see what we are “correcting” while at the same time The Globalists et al.. are using their Trojan Horse, JD Vance, to carry out the actual mission. It’s like a magician doing a card trick while distracting us with something else and using a sleight of hand he does his trick and voila we don’t know what hit us or how the “magic” was performed but we nevertheless clap in amazement and approval. SMH.
More confident. Let American exceptionalism drive this technology and our tremendous national workforce lead the way. MAGA 🇺🇸
Big tech and the internet, etc. is what they used to TRY to set up the survellence State and the censorship of mis, dis, mal.
But, it was the very same internet, that marshaled the forces that rose up to become the MAGA Media alternative, that brought down the legacy media/big tech attempt.
Pushing OPEN SOURCE AI, and a democratised development, not allowing a few big players to dominate, all that sounds good….
And frankly, I am less concerned every day, that another Obama will rise again, any time soon. I believe that whole woke ideology is being consigned to the dust heap of history.
Second! ( cane in hand, banging the floor ) and also agree on embracing the danger. American building tradesmen will ply their expertise and work ethic to build the infrastructure needed to abide this new AI technology. Tens of thousands of very good paying jobs will be employed by hard working Americans, who Sundance often acknowledges and respects, that will strengthen the middle class of our great nation and play a critical part in making America great again. MAGA 🇺🇸
…are they talking open source AI? Great. Musk wanted not for profit AI.
.
Excellent speech.
.
I feel MORE confident about the future. Absolutely.
The future is going to happen whether we want it to or not, whether we like it or not. AI is coming. AI is here.
JD and his young crowd that 47 has assembled claim to be determined to get out in front of AI and manage both its development and application for the benefit of the American people. Is he lying? Is he telling the truth?
The only other alternative is to let China control AI’s development, and let the other globalist controlled countries regulate AI’s application to destroy all opposition to their Globalist Fascism. That alternative is suicidal. It is not acceptable.
So, JD and his crowd it is. There is no third alternative. Standing in front of the Ford factory yelling “horses forever” is no alternative at all.
AI IS HAPPENING RATHER WE LIKE OR NOT.
AMERICA NEEDS TO CONTROL IT.
THERE IS SOME GOOD SOME BAD
Having to even ask the question is, in fact, the answer.
Yup.
Because of the reality-based reading we get to do here (including the massively informative daily thread), I neither feel better or worse.
His speech confirmed that conditions on the playing field are exactly what I already understood them to be.
deleted
We cannot have our European vassals regulating and taxing their Protector.
.
Look at the faces in the audience. Vance is verbally spanking them. And aside. Bessent has banned CBDCs in the U.S., while E.U. is going full steam ahead. (Now we need Congressional action.).
Vances remarks do not change how I feel about the future with the presence of AI. AI is a fact of (or in) present day technology, commerce and government; in my opinion we have already reached the point of no return.
What gives me hope is that this forum (and others) are a modern day “Green Dragon Tavern”.
What we do not have to create is the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Most importantly, we do not have to create the 4th amendment. But we do have the privilige of addressing the question: “How do we insure 4th amendment protections given the reality of AI’s capabilities to surveil?” And: “How do we reverse the damage to our 4th amendment freedoms created by the Patriot Act?”
Perhaps we are blessed with a time in history when our opinions about these matters can be communicated to like minded individuals, currently in positions of power, who can legislate, litigate and mitigate on our behalf.
Bunch of ninnies screaming the sky is falling.
The tech is here.
Now run away from it or harness it.
Running away gets you to the same place, slower, but inevitable, than if you were to embrace the tech.
Either you control the advancement, and thus have a hand in shaping it, or you allow others to take control of it and do what they want with it, that is the choices before us.
Running and screaming will not solve anything, rather, it will be putting up roadblocks that will stifle our ability to master this tech as we see fit as opposed to nefarious actors doing the molding.
AI is a tool, only a tool. It is not a sentient machine bent on world domination like the Terminator Movies of the Matrix Movies. And like all tools, it must be handled correctly and with care.
Do you stick your hand on the blades of a running lawnmower? Of course not, you learn how to use the tool first and then it works as intended. Unless of course you think it is a murderous monster that attacks grass.
The point is, safeguards can be built into the programming of AI. If we allow others to do the building and programming, we lose the ability in the shape of things to come.
Yours is pretty much the first sensible comment I’ve seen. Thank you.
He is a bit wrong though, as you cannot control what other nation states will do.
“Either you control the advancement, and thus have a hand in shaping it, or you allow others to take control of it and do what they want with it, that is the choices before us.”
You cannot control what the ROW does, except perhaps to make it open source, charge little to nothing (non profit for real, what Musk says he wants), and make sterling programs to root out hostile nation AIs that seek to subvert.
Nuclear weapons are dangerous too. Should we have stifled their development by the US and allowed others to develop them first? AI is inevitable, and like any thing else can be used for good and misused for evil. Do I feel comfortable with it? Well the older I get the less I’m certain I know. Will my fly speck of an opinion change it? I trust in God, may God’s will be done.
Rocks, sticks, spears, knives, arrows, fire, guns and gunpowder, engines, Trains, automobiles, airplanes, rockets and nukes, TV, computers, iphones, internet. All dangerous. All touted by the one making money, suppressed by the the one afraid, controlled by the one wanting to make more money.
Morals, love of Truth, love of people, benevolence: They are the spiritual determining factors. That is where the return on investment is best: First for each one of us as an individual, and then practice with those around us, and amplified to our fellow man.
Sorry JD…there must be privacy protection or I can’t get on board. I understand wanting to be first to market but this is going to fall into wrong hands, increase the survellance state, and diminish freedoms. People need the ability to Opt Out. What is the big rush??? Why can’t you put up some guard rails.
The over emphasis on the American worker after the H1B blow up is quite interesting and suspect. Why does this audience care about the American workers? They care about their own countries workers.
Trust bank account- withdrawl.
Who do you trust to implement and enforce “privacy protection”?
Personally, I can’t think of any individual, group, agency, board, university, consortium, etc. Assigning someone to protect my privacy suggests to me that the privacy horse has already left the barn. (Ya think?)
The solution is not to find someone who can control what others do because the problem is the lack of basic morality, and that’s not going to be solved by assigning humans to manage what other humans do.
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” –John Adams
https://www.socratic-method.com/quote-meanings-and-interpretations/john-adams-our-constitution-was-made-only-for-a-moral-and-religious-people-it-is-wholly-inadequate-to-the-government-of-any-other
If we are looking for “basic morality” we may be screwed. Our only hope is legal privacy protection but that still may not hold back the ocean.
So Come Lord Jesus!
The rush is very odd. If you look up r/singularity the people are essentially cheering on the creation of an electric god. It’s creepy.
Birthday Girl Sarah Palin would have been better.
She came off dim.
Not being able to answer what publications she read – asked by USAID funded Politico – didn’t look good, even though it’s a game of gotcha. Those are the rules of the lapdog media.
The 51st state governor of Canada didn’t look too pleased with JD’s speech.
I think his speech was basically Ok. His analogy to a sword is exactly right. AI is just another tool (albeit a very powerful tool) that can be used for good, or for evil. I think Vance could have been a bit more forceful in stating that the USA will be on a mission to root out and destroy evil uses of AI.
Although AI will have some very very powerful applications and uses, I also do not personally believe that it is “Intelligent” by my definition. In its current embodiment, it is really nothing more than a fancy pattern matching function to provide human-usable output (or inversely to take human inputs to create some fancy patterns). As far as i can tell, most of the hype about AI achieving generalized “intelligence” is just that, hype.
It is hype so far. It still needs humans to help correct its mistakes. Altman keeps changing the goalpost for AGI because it’s not there yet.
“Do you feel more or less confident about the future, having watched these remarks?”
About the same. The trajectory of mankind won’t change. It may accelerate a bit toward its end, but I doubt it.
Control.
That is THE operative word everyone should remember. Control is power. Control enables enriching.
AI is about controlling information. “Ridiculous”, you say. You can call it artificial intelligence if you want. Just remember one thing. Computers are not smart. They are stupid. They do EXACTLY what they are programmed to do.
Artificial intelligence is controlled by the programmers, and the people who paid the programmers. Never forget that.
Imagine the year is 1943, USA spies in Germany tell the President that Hitler is building an Atomic BOMB and has top scientists working on this project around the clock.
What should the USA do?
Imagine today is 2025 …. and China has been developing Military use of AI and is planning to use it against the USA.
What should the USA do?
On the surface, it is “concerning”. Satan and his minions have a “steal/kill/destroy” agenda. But it’s all about perspective. IMHO, I believe that the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth, has it under control. One important reminder. He tells us in Matthew 10:28 that we should not fear the one who can only kill the body (satan), but fear the one who can destroy the body and the soul (the Lord). That gets me through everything. “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
This guy speaking of both sides of his mouth. This technology should be regulated. And how it’s regulated should be made open to the public
Happy Birthday Sarah Palin. The only political character I truly trust.
“Do you feel more or less confident about the future, having watched these remarks?”
Less, but of course, everyone here knows the path. Sundance has been putting it in the sunlight for some time.
Our AI overlords are getting stronger and will be coming for us. What is actually happening in the background isn’t in sunlight’s view yet. I’m sure the coming is farther along that any of us could currently gauge.
Confidence meter is low, but optimism remains high. I’m living my best life until some robot tries to take it.
We all got a hint about 2 months ago about Palantir Tech stock. I took the hint. One of my best decisions ever. Plenty of room left for this to grow. That’s all I’m gonna say.
What are you afraid of? We could go back to using the Abacus. How about going back to before the wheel was invented?
Every tool/weapon is dangerous to free people when in the wrong hands. Every tool/weapon is good in responsible hands – and dangerous to enemies who never stop trying to enslave free people.
I saw fear in the faces of the audience. They fear that AI will be more useful to free people instead of themselves if JD Vance’s words become reality.
The need for power to operate AI sure puts a kink in the eco-loons’ plans.
JD Vance’s speech was good, and a warning to the authoritarians of the world.
Most tools still require people think for themselves. Microsoft released a study saying “AI makes human cognition atrophied and unprepared”.
And what of our jobs? UBI will always have strings attached no matter what anyone says.
If you don’t think for yourself, perhaps you won’t have a job.
My computer skills have enhanced my abilities. What do you do with yours?
Sounds like Morpheus telling Neo after he was unplugged from the Matrix how AI took over the human race, lol
The only thing I’ll say about that speech is that I cannot imagine Kamala Harris delivering that same message.
Thoughts: Many times in American history we absolutely did not want the changes that were happening. Back in the day, a Social Security number was considered “the mark of the beast”. We actually don’t have to comply with that system. We never wanted a “nuclear holocaust”, but we are now capable of it, and it’s one of those things that we cannot prevent other than to vote for sane people and pray. etc etc
I absolutely hate AI, but the world is moving forward with it, so Trump either takes the bull by the horns, or he ignores what will become a growing problem for America. The surveillance system is already in place and we saw what happens to people, here in America, when evil people are in charge (J6). etc etc
We could all become Amish. LOL.
P.S. Vance definitely drank the A.I. koolaid. I can see the concerns.
Joining the Amish is becoming
more appealing every day!
😁
Revelation 18
9 “The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, 10 standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’
11 “And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12 merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble;
13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. 14 The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have [g]gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all.
15 The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls!
17 For in one hour such great riches [h]came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18 and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’
19 “They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she [i]is made desolate.’
20 “Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you [j]holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!”
Finality of Babylon’s Fall
21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore.
22 The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you anymore. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you anymore.
23 The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.”
AI makes up for the huge deficiencies found in “term lmits” – lack of continuity and accountability by rapidly changing elected representatives. AI can provide institutional memory.
If US does not take the lead, who else do you want running this show?
