GERMANY – The German government collapsed on Monday as Chancellor Olaf Scholz lost a confidence vote in Parliament, deepening a crisis of leadership across Europe at a time of mounting economic and security challenges.

Coming just nine months before parliamentary elections had been scheduled to happen, the vote was an extraordinary moment for Germany. But the country’s political uncertainty is likely to last a month or more, with a new permanent government not forming until parties have agreed on a coalition, probably in April or May.

The new generally anti-immigration coalition comes from both the left and the right. (Greens are not involved at all, and are extremely despised at the moment. And deservedly so!)
This coalition came up one vote shy of the 45 needed and so one person came over from what was formerly an Eastern Germany communist party…a former Stasi guy. Why this motley crew? Because they are 100% focused on locking out all of the AfD.
Given their widely oppositional views on everything but their hatred of AfD, this coalition will probably be too unstable to be very effective, but it is interesting that we see maneuvers there very similar to here, where the bureaucratic/ management class is fighting the people and their populist movements tooth and nail throughout the West. A similar process is in play with Macron trying to shut out everyone with LePen’s party.

I think it was Alexander Mercuris a few weeks ago who said that of all the German people he has spoken to, not one will admit that the United States destroyed the NS Pipeline. Many say the Russians did it and some say the Ukrainians did it.
