Strong beginning and close, but the speech was way too long in the middle, too much like a stream of consciousness rally speech, so long he lost much of his audience. It ended after midnight on a work week on the east coast and and after bedtime in Midwest.
When he tightens up his speeches, he’s much more effective.

As rhetoric that I think could have connected with some soaring high notes, it was a pretty poor speech. His adlibbing was tiresome and unnecessary and lacked the wit that I’d expect. When he did stick to it, the speech itself was pretty bland and lacked any cohesion or theme. Hell, the closing song is, “hold on, I’m coming”. You couldn’t even weave THAT into the speech anywhere during a series of vignettes about how hard it is for people living in America today?
Overall a boring forgettable speech well, well beneath his skills and the moment we find ourselves in.
I’m willing to give it points in places because it was folksy and I can see someone liking the fact that it felt like he was talking to the crowd conversationally…..I think it could be effective in that way. But overall I think it was miles and miles from the kind of speech that could have captured the moment in time.
Tremendous start, particularly his description of the assassination and the touching gesture for the fallen. I was bucked up ready for a truly historic speech. It really devolved from there.
Even as a stump speech, I would have called this one pretty grueling to listen to. As a convention speech with so much on the line, after an attempt on his life, it was…..well not one of his trademark fastballs.
The convention as a whole was fantastic. Tucker was great (frankly they could have given him 30 of Trump’s minutes and the convention would have been better for it). Eric was surprisingly good….had Donald given that speech, word-for-word, I would have called this the best convention of my lifetime. Dana was great. Hulk was, interesting and pretty decent.
In what was an A+ convention, Trump’s speech was probably a low light. Overall, I’m giving this convention an A-. It was not as good as the Democrat convention of 1992, but it was pretty damn close.
And really, Trump is still gonna win anyhow….because he’s an f-ing boss!

Not much about what we have to do to save this country and what the Globalist have done to destroy this country.
Something was definitely missing, but we have to remember Trump came VERY close to losing his life just a few days ago.
I am praying that the difference is now as drastic I’m think I am seeing.
I thought about that kin, and actually my take was that given he may be tired and frazzled by it- I actually thought a well written speech where he could just read what was there….would have been great in that moment. Like, let the writers do the heavy lifting so he could just focus on the speech.
But I think the speech was so boring and poorly written, HE got bored with it and went into Ad-lib mania trying to make it more interesting. And I think that turned out, for reasons you mentioned, to be a problem.
Look the guy is freaking hero, so this isn’t a critique on the man. But what this moment called for was a soaring speech telling us:
1) Things are bad right now
2) Things are gonna be ok
3) We have to stick together
4) He’s gonna make that happen, or die trying
And we just didn’t get enough of that in the speech. We got glimpses, but it was far too fleeting. And what could have been a grand slam, was a ground-rule double. And that’s a real shame!

After what happened last Saturday, just seeing our wonderful irreplaceable President alive, still with us and eager to forge on was all that I needed. I’d have been ecstatic just to hear him read from the telephone book. His world and ours have been permanently altered; physical and emotional adjustments are still being made. Who in the world needs to complain about his speech at a time like this?
I came on here to give my honest opinion. I’m not going to sugar coat or lie because some soy boy took a literal shot at our dude. He wants to be the leader of the free world, he’s in the public eye, his fans can handle straight talk. It was a middling-to-poor speech. He’s going to need to do a much better job to win this race.
Look, the polls are all rigged. The reason they show Trump out ahead by so much is because the system wants Biden gone. They know if they show polling with Trump out ahead like this, pressure will mount for Joe to go. THEN they can parachute someone else in, the polls will “tighten” magically….and then when they cheat Trump again, it will look very organic and “normal”.
So Trump can’t coast and he can’t give 3 more months of really poor speeches like this.

I find it so strange you’re living up to the caricature the left has of MAGA when you say stuff like this. It was a middling-to poor speech, and his speech writers let him down, bigly. I get the defensiveness given how much MAGA has been attacked (and that’s not even a strong enough word for it) the last 8 years. But that shouldn’t cause the blinders to come on.

For me, it’s better that a relatively low-key Trump showed in Day 4. It highlights that the fiery Trump is not always a fiery one, but a soft, humane Donald Trump.

I just finished listening to it again in 1.5 time and it’s perfect. He had to slow it down for some people.
He was as sweet and charming as we all know him to be, he brought up his first term accomplishments and how they would quickly do the job again, and then some. I think he built perfectly on what Eric had to say too.
He started off by saying he is going to relive what happened on Saturday and he is only going to do it this once because it is too painful. Do any of the critics who profess their “support” for him really understand that?
Personally, I don’t give a rat’s behind what his detractors say right now. The man almost took a freaking bullet for this country. He stood up Saturday. He stood up last night.

Last night late, after being disconnected all day, I finally got wifi again and started reading this page first to see how all of CTH thought the evening went. And this initial downer-comment flurry was the first thing I saw before I had to turn off again.
This morning the wifi was thankfully on, so I got coffee and read the entire rally comments to see whether it was representative, though I was pretty sure it wasn’t.
Thankfully it was not in any way! Clearly the evening was a triumph – and I am really looking forward to watching all of it when I get back home.
Bought myself a pair of lion theme earrings yesterday, grin!
