Russian military doctrine is artillery heavy as can be expected from their history.
Ukraine tried to keep up and is estimated to be out-shot in artillery terms by at least 7 to 1 right now.

I think Putin is truly disappointed in what America has become. We were a shinning light to nations. Putin reached out His hand to be a force of good in partnership and the American policy establishment rejected Him. I do believe, as you correctly pointed out, that Russia never had any intentions of scorching ukraine. the goals were never about destroying ukraine…but seizing strategic ports, rails, rivers and other hubs. I believe Russia calculated that ukraine would not decline the generous offer made to settle this dispute and end the war. However, DC had other plans. Europe had other plans. This has significantly altered the first strategies….as they say…all plans fail when the first bullet flies. Even so, it is respectable that russia has shown great restraint…I do not imagine this restraint will continue if US and Nato begins supplying cluster munitions, aircraft and specialized air defense battery systems. Russia has made it clear, they will obliterate supply lines as they weapons enter ukraine. And that means the battle will extend much further east.
I am predicting there will be a combination of desertion and a coup soon with the ukrainian leadership. Anyone can see that the Ukraine forces are not adequate to do much more than guerrilla warfare and insurrection. And as much as I concede these strategies are effective…it will never be enough to push off a russian occupation…it will only frustrate russia in certain areas, and likely result in even more dangerous and indiscriminate weapons such as IED’s.

The thing is, Trump replenished the military for purposes of National Defense, not for purposes of International Offense, starting wars in/with other countries. He rightly would rather fight foreign enemies via economic means (e.g., tariffs). I’m all for maintaining/carrying a “big stick” in terms of National Defense. Biden (Obama) would rather gut all of that in the process of carrying out foreign wars–putting our National Defense seriously at risk as China nods with approval from one of their balloons above our soil.

If 155mm cluster rounds are used against the Russians, Russia will definitely retaliate with their own cluster munitions. Defense Minister Shoigu has said they would. I’d hate to be in the Ukrainian army if that happens.

I have no doubt about their cluster munitions being better. They’ve been building up their military for some time now, especially since 2014.
