Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko was in Beijing for a state visit with Chairman Xi. Belarus is not a member of NATO and borders both Ukraine and Russia. Together both leaders, Xi and Lukashenko, affirmed their support for a peace proposal to end the war in Ukraine.
You would think that Lukashenko violated a war commandment from NATO, the World Economic Forum and the Western alliance when you read the apoplexy from the media describing how he stood next to Chairman Xi during his Chinese leader’s first comments in public about China’s peace proposal.
When you look at the big picture, you realize how strongly the western alliance needs to maintain a NATO expanded war with Russia as the only possible path forward. Anyone like Viktor Orban (Hungary) or Alexander Lukashenko (Belarus) who propose anything, except expanded war with Russia, are immediately attacked by the entire apparatus of western media.
It’s a remarkable dynamic to watch.

“The core of China’s position is to promote peace and facilitate negotiations,” Xi said. “It is crucial to stick to the direction of political settlement, abandon all Cold War mentality, respect the legitimate security concerns of all countries, and build a balanced, effective and sustainable European security architecture.”
He also blamed “certain countries” — a veiled reference to the West — for “politicizing and instrumentalizing the world economy” during the “Ukraine crisis,” calling on them to “genuinely commit to [steps] conducive to a cease-fire and peaceful resolution.”
Xi made no reference to Zelenskyy’s call for a meeting. Russian media has reported that Xi was due to visit Moscow later this year. (more)
We see this in relation to yesterdays NATO statement that Ukraine after the end of War will be permitted to enter NATO. China and Russia secure Belarus as NATO Border protection. The only safe position now for Russia is to take Kiev and the control of the Ukraine government.

Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014.
Russia took Crimea in order to secure the Russian naval bases there after the Maidan coup.
The Crimeans, for centuries Russian, voted themselves Russian.
Crimea was part of Russia since the 17th century, when they captured it from the last remnants of The Golden Horde (Mongols, now called Tartars in Crimea)who were allied with the Ottoman Emire at the time. Interestingly, Russia and Turkey/Ottoman Empire have fought IIRC 31 wars, Russia won 29 decisively, 1 draw and 1 they made peace and gave some minor land concessions to the Ottomans, as they were busy fighting a bigger war against Sweden at the time in the north.
The Communists gave administrative control of Crimea in the 1920’s to the Uklrainian SSR because it was physically next to Ukraine, which back them was more like a US State than a country of it’s own. Some say Stalin did this after a night of hard drinking.
At first there were 2 Oblasts (Provinces) there, one for the Donbass region (eastern, closer to Russia) and amother for the western parts of Ukraine, which were later merged into one big Ukrainian SSR governed area – which is one of the root causes of today’s war, if those Oblasts had remained as they were, Ukraine would have no claim at all to the Donbass region, which was always part of Russia anyway.
Historically, there has never been a country called Ukraine until 1991. The blue/yellow flag they fly came from the old Kingdom of Ruthenia (now called Galicia, a Province of Ukraine next to Poland, at times controlled by Poland and the Austrian-Hungarian Empire) which is far smaller than Ukraine is now.
After 1991 the Russians had several bases in Crimea still located there, agreed to by Ukraine, with leases, and were allowed by those Treaties to have 25,000 personnel in Crimea at those bases.
The people of Crimea actually have voted numerous times to not be associated with Ukraine and later to join Russia, even when Ukraine controlled it Crimea was supposed to be a semi-autonomous region with only loose affiliation with the Ukraine Government in Kiev. Crimean’s are Russian speakers and consider themselves Russian and always have, there never were any Ukrainians there except those who moved there by choice.
So anyone who talks about Russia “seizing Crimea” or “invading Crimea” is just a clueless idiot, or a ne0con lying on purpose. Like the UK, who have a singular obsession with Crimea and have been trying to take it from Russia since 1829, when the British first tried a coup in Moscow to overthrow the Russian Czar and replace him with a pro-British Goverment. Some of those first LPR/DPR units have been fighting almost continually since 2014, and are still fighting today, making themj elite battle-hardened veterans by now, unfortunatley for Ukrainianse who have to fight them.
And why did the LPR/DPR declare their independence – because the CIA engineered the phony Maidian coup, and put in a very Nazi Ukrainian government who immediately moved to oppress Russian speakers in all ways, which is also the cause of the present war. Nazi’s will Nazi, it’s just what they do.
So did the West, specifically the US.

I think at this point it is naive to think Russia will easily agree to any peace plan that involves a ceasefire, and basically giving the West a chance to re-arm Ukraine again, for it to join Nato and give Ukraine a carte blanche to invade Crimea whenever it feels like it. Not happening.
I do not think this will end before Ukraine as-is today will cease to exist and with that I mean a full purge of the entire government of Ukraine, a full purge of its military forces, de-militarization of Ukraine, a pledge that Ukraine will never join Nato and a respect of the referendum of Donbass provinces to join Russian Federation.
Even when the West promises all of this why would Russia accept? They already violated Minsk I, Minsk II by literal words of Merkel and Hollande that that was just to buy time to arm Ukraine and start a war with Russia.

This meeting is another sign of the cleaving of the global economy. Belarus was the object of a western-led coup attempt in 2021 which failed. Belarus has been put under many of the same sanctions that were placed on Russia. Belarus is a resource-rich country with developing industry. They have large resources needed for fertilizers and produce a lot of sunflower oil and grain. They have invested in their growing military strength. By making this alliance with China, Belarus is securing an outlet for its production and resources that circumvents western sanctions. It’s a win-win for both countries.
Yes, the western countries need to keep their alliance vibrant. They are doing that by escalating the war, escalating the hatred of Russia/China, and escalating the sanctions to keep everyone in line. Ukraine is pushing to expand the war and to involve NATO, but that is not in the interest of the US/NATO/EU because no country wants large numbers of casualties which might bring about anti-government protests and problems for the alliance from their “deplorables”, those pesky people they can’t fully control.
However, the “elites” of the western alliance don’t care how many soldiers die, fighting in Bakmut. The alliance itself is important for green energy, for their LGBTQ+ “rules based order”, for multinational corporations that are still working on destroying Russia for their own profit, and for keeping the US and the US dollar at the top of the heap.

1. The visit of Xi to Moscow was NOT announced. It was promised to Kremlin that the issue of the “possible visit” will be addressed “later in March”.
2. Putin beggs for a phone talk to Xi since January, but China refused to take calls.
3. Lukashenko suppressed the opposition in his country, stole the last (pre-war) election, and remains a vassal of Kremlin, political, economical and military ally of Putin.
3. Belarus is not involved in the Putin’s military aggression agains Ukraine, but provides its territory for strikes by Russian missiles and air force.
4. The fact that Lukashenko has received an UNPRECEDENTED reception in China indicates that Xi considers Putin too weak to deal with, especially under pressure from the US and EU. By “investing” into Belarus politically, Xi escapes from the EU/US trap around China’s assistance of Russia. Belarus is not a target of this trap. It may serve as a hidden hub for a military assistance or Russian failing military. Let’s assume that NATO prepared to invade the Russian territory of Kaliningrad via Lithuania just as it did preparing to invade Russia via the Donbas. Lithuania is a NATO country. Russia would protect Russians in Kaliningrad by invading Lithuania, just as it invaded Ukraine to protect Russians in the Donbas and Crimea. And NATO would fight until every last Lithuanian was dead and Lithuania destroyed, just as it is doing in Ukraine.
NATO is a suicide pact for its member states. NATO countries are figuring that out and the alliance will break up shortly.
I do not know which is worse.
