Remember that fourth quarter GDP result that seemed manipulated? Well, I suspect the record setting trade deficit now being reported for January is an outcome of those pesky fourth quarter trade results being intentionally skewed by the withholding of December 2021 import data.
Additionally, methinks we are likely to get some increased economic clarity about why the White House needed Ukraine to become the big shiny thing with such urgency.
Just like everything else, geopolitical dynamics –especially those surrounding entrenched ideology– are always about the economics. Someone, eventually, always has to pay. Follow the money; there are trillions at stake.
First, keep in mind that missing Port of Los Angeles result from December as you review the import/export details:
(REUTERS) […] The goods trade deficit jumped 7.1% to an all-time high of $107.6 billion last month. Imports of goods increased 1.7%, led by food and motor vehicles. There were also large increases in imports of industrial supplies, capital and consumer goods. Imports of other goods, however, tumbled 15.3%.
Exports dropped 1.8%, weighed down by consumer goods, motor vehicles, food and other goods. But exports of capital goods and industrial supplies increased. Trade has been a drag on gross domestic product for six straight quarters. (read more)
That missing Port of LA December import data, now being introduced into the month of January, might just be the cause of the “all time high” noted above. I will bet one sustainable rice cake on it.
Next up, inflation.
As we have outlined exhaustively, inflation comes in waves because inflationary costs flow like tides within the overall supply chain. The three stages are Origination (commodity), Intermediate (processing), and then Final (to wholesale).
Inflation on raw materials flows into the pricing, then layers of energy inflation overlap the material and labor costs, and eventually the final product exits with the full weight of higher costs embedded.
Additionally, the payment for goods has terms of 30, 60, 90 or 180 days depending on the sector. Pricing contracts are then reset with each new purchase order. Price increases can sometimes lag in this process depending on whether the retailer needs the proceeds from the ending sales to fill the banking exchange account and pay the supplier.
(Daily Mail) U.S. inflation will be even worse this year than expected, after the Federal Reserve’s primary inflation measurement hit its highest level in 40 years, according to a new report from Goldman Sachs.
The personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index rose 6.1 percent in January from a year ago, the largest annual gain since February 1982, as seen in federal data released Friday.
Goldman Sachs predicts that PCE inflation will remain high throughout the year before dropping to 3.7% by the end of 2022, economists for the Wall Street giant wrote in a client report Sunday (more)
CTH has continued to stick with the models that have proven accurate. We see inflation on highly consumable goods getting another wave in the spring of this year. It looks like by Memorial Day that wave will end, and food inflation will level off. There will be a period of pricing stability in the summer until the 2022 harvest season cycles. At that point, we should see the newest field costs showing up in the end harvest price.
The price of gasoline is a big variable. Current trends put the price of unleaded regular gasoline in the $6 to $7/gal range toward the end of this year. This issue makes estimations on downstream inflation more challenging.
On the durable goods side, things are less clear. A lot depends on what happens with employment and wages.
If the economy is slowing as it appears, durable goods prices may be subject to decreased demand. You guys will be able to see if prices for durable goods begin coming down long before the economists and financial analysts will be able to quantify it.
.
Of course, there will always been people who do not connect the dots between major economic damage surfacing and the need for distractions, justifications and excuses elsewhere in the world.
This is more your wheelhouse
Only one wheelhouse here. Same analytical approach, same adherence to observable facts.
.
It doesn’t care about your feeling either.
What was the best GDP under President TRUMP?
The better question would be what was his best GDPs without government spending, compared to DeMentia’s.
Please name a blogger who has a better batting average than Sundance.
Sundance’s economic articles have all been spot on.
And his tireless work exposing Russiagate has been absolutely indispensable.
No one has been stronger in those areas.
BBB=Bullets, Beans and Band-aids
Putin, Tootin (of cocaine), and lootin’ (of everyone)
I can’t seem to find the emoji of Joe with the “I did that!” label to put in the comment box…..it needs to be added!!!
Not his fault! UKRAINE!!! /s
There is a label out there of a picture of a [smiling] President Trump exclaiming,
“I can fix that!”
Collapse begins slowly and grows slowly until it all goes to crap all at once.
And knowing this economic sleight of hand (read: lie) from December would eventually catch up to them, they only had a month to get their Ukraine shiny squirrell distraction ginned up and running
And they made the deadline with a week to spare
Gotta admire the execution and efficiency, if not the satanic intent
Imagine if they could have used that skill to manage the Afghan withdrawal or deal with supply chain issues.
I believe the Biteme administration will have to reverse course somewhat or they will get even more slaughtered then already forecasted. However since the magic Kenyan is behind all this I’m not sure.
LOL, the Magic Kenyan. Unfortunately, it seems he’s not going anywhere and his minions are stinking up the White House.
Or they will get worse than Trudeau, suddenly, painfully, and arrogantly.
Puff, the magic Kenyan lived by the sea
And frolicked with out a mask in a land called Martha V.
Nice one TN Jim! Reminded me of the days of Rush extolling “White comedian Paul Shanklin…”
There you go again with in your mass psychosis Sundance…
Spoke to a friend today whose husband is a big time farmer in eastern, North Carolina. I asked her about the costs of things that go into making their crops. She said absolutely everything needed to farm has shot up in price. Her husband is going to plant, but will need a lot more for what they produce and sell.
Stacy Abrams says “wheeze donts need no farms, wheeze got grocery stores”. Not picking on Stacy in particular, but this is representative of the DNCCP thought process. They have no idea of where food comes from, how supply chains work, or even how to balance a checkbook or pay off credit card debt (ok, I was picking on Stacy there).
“They have no idea of where food comes from, how supply chains work, or even how to balance a checkbook or pay off credit card debt (ok, I was picking on Stacy there).”
C’mon man!
All of her constituents know exactly how all this stuff works!
The Big Daddy gubberment teat takes cares of everything, of course!!
When I was a child in 4th grade we got to go on field trips to Alpenrose Dairy on the west side of Portland, OR to tour the farm. We also went to Franz Bakery to learn where bread came from.
I was raised in a family where relatives grew wheat and fruit, and understood where our meat came from.
Pity they don’t teach kids this instead of what gender they should identify as.
Come on man ! It’s not hard. Just pull up your shirt, pull out your pants, and have a look. Guaranteed accurate 100% of the time.
Was just talking to friend about this.
We both grew up in rural farming area.
We were being taught crop rotation in school in elementary school.
And then another friend came out and said..I have college degree and all these acronyms behind that degree. And I can’t get a garden to grow !
Yup book smart vs life smart.
Balance is the key.
Can you imagine what happens if there is severe weather which would hamper crop growth. I don’t even want to think about it. How many people are going to really believe China Joe when he blames everything on Russia in his speech Tuesday?
For sure they will try to gaslight us, but you have to be living under a rock to believe it. The gas pump prices, and all the energy price increases, started way before Ukraine. In fact, they started with the installation of this criminal regime.
It reminds me of the early seventies when inflation started and then the inflation rate accelerated after OPEC increased the price of oil. This is going to get a loss worse than the Carter years if we don’t stop them in November. I don’t have and delusions about the GOP, but they are better than Marxists.
Cheap energy was going to make America competitive and these insane ideologues killed it.
I truly despise these people.
“If the economy is slowing as it appears, durable goods prices may be subject to decreased demand. You guys will be able to see if prices for durable goods begin coming down long before the economists and financial analysts will be able to quantify it.”
Agree durable goods may become less expensive due to decrease in demand. Of course production and shipping costs are tied to the cost of fossil fuel and it’s hard to see oil prices coming down when there is such an obvious and deliberate push to make oil and gas unaffordable.
Or they will quit making so many ‘durable’ goods since there is no demand and the prices stay high; less demand, less need for manufacturing in America and then more unemployment. And a lot of cheep chinese junk won’t end up in the landfills (green?).
Discretionary income is also way down due to rising food, fuel, rent, utilities and soon interest on credit cards.
Oh about the current ‘unemployment numbers”, ya notice we don’t hear about them??? I am sure they are out there, no one brave enough will post them.
You will “own nothing and be happy”.
“Agree durable goods may become less expensive due to decrease in demand”
Not once they’re manufactured and shipped at inflated rates for salaries and shipping
Producers, wholesalers, and retailers won’t take a loss on a refrigerator
They’ll just keep it warehoused or on the floor until it sells or the other one in front of it sells and makes room
People wanting to upgrade will hold off on purchasing (making lesser demand)
But people who need a refrigerator now will have to buy a refrigerator now
Supply and demand only goes so far, other market forces also play a part
And as Aggiegirl said, “they will quit making so many”
equals slowdown at the factory equals layoffs or fewer hours at the factory equals economic slowdown equals recession
Thank you nimrodman for pointing out a lot more goes into this than simpke suppky and demand.
Money can be spent two ways. It can be used for consumption—consumer goods or it can be used for production—capital goods.
The “economic slowdown equals recession” formula that you use simply indicates that consumers are putting their their money into capital goods instead of consumer goods.
This increase in savings permits an increase in capital goods. Increased capital spending allows production to increase (“supply”) which will cause prices for consumer goods to fall.
In the final analysis, it really *is* about supply and demand.
Refrigerators, made by Kitchenaid, I know are on back order now as I have been waiting 4 months and ovens are not expected until mid summer, if then. Some have been told they are no longer giving a receive by date and mine keeps getting pushed out monthly. My SIL needed a cooktop now and all brands–not just Kitchenaid were on back order. I think the days of picking and choosing what we want will be severely limited.
Thank you, Sundance!
(IMHO, this entire Ukraine/Russia scenario is one big “the dog ate my homework” . . . especially disgraceful in the aftermath of the withdrawal from Afghanistan . . . plus George W. Bush hopping on board made it all complete)
My “guess” is that Biden wanted Russia to invade and probably therein destroy the evidence of Biden family crimes in Ukraine. Conveniently timed just after Durham’s filing that is getting everyone panicked.
p.s. Is it true that Biden was seeing his podiatrist to study for the upcoming “State of the Bunion” speech?
An unfunny and callus remark 🙂
Lol
That’s the warts pun I’ve ever heard.
“Biden wanted Russia to invade and probably therein destroy the evidence of Biden family crimes in Ukraine.”
Why would Putin act as Biden’s cleaner? Putin would use compromising material for blackmail.
The state department used China to bait Russia. They wanted this invasion. Is it just to distract from failed policy? Did they not realize they were enabling Putin? Is it simply the usually using a crisis to their advantage politically?
And FJB and his handlers will gleefully hide behind dead Ukrainians and Russians to hide their destructive policies.
we have a traitor in the white house.
We’ve had traitors in the White House and the rest of the Executive Branch SES positions for over three decades. At least 3 were Presidents. Only #45 and some of his hand picked staff and economic team were true patriots. I can’t think of anyone else from Bush 41 through Ozero (including Cashbox Joe) on whom I’d bestow that honor.
Any chance TPTB will reverse course and quietly drop ALL jab requirements as the labor market gets even worse?
The companies that went all in never will back off. If they did, they know what they are party to.
Personally, I doubt it. They’ll keep their claws in, but just loose enough so the majority will tolerate it. Then clench when people start to feel a little too free.
Releasing the mask was just throwing a bone to a hungry dog. It is also can be used as a threat, to be re-instituted.
Yes, as long as the same humans remain in positions of authority and power, the same threat will continue.
Have you ever seen a government spending plan, stop? My thoughts are that they won’t as the pearl clutching screaming outrage from those that took the sheep shot, who even ‘jumped the line’ for the shot, would be too much to bear in an election year, you know it “does not FEEL right” to have mandated all those others and some got off with not taking it. All one has to do is look at the number of states signing on to the jab registry. Or listen to the CTU.
Earlier to day, someone mentioned they read somewhere that ya cannot get your soc. security without the jab, I haven’t searched to clarify that.
Sundance predicted this, way, way back…about not being able to shop or work without the jab.
The feelings of horror that I had 2 years ago and two months ago don’t match what I feel now!
DOR #177
Earlier today, someone mentioned they read somewhere that ya cannot get your soc. security without the jab, I haven’t searched to clarify that.
Absolutely untrue. (I can attest, I’m that age.)
That is…untrue…so far… 😳
All this time Steph I thought you was a spring chicken. (drops his jaw ,,,and his teeth)
What are you talking about? Someone in their 60 is still young!
Same here
I think the S.S. coercion was floated last year, as well as denial of unemployment benefits, medicare, actual medical care, etc.
Then denial of unemployment benefits stuck in some states, regardless of the fact that it is a gross violation of human rights.
Denial of actual medical care has stuck in some places – again, gross violation of human rights.
I get SS survivor benefits and the kill shot hasn’t been a factor…yet!
Not likely. But, on the flip side, there is a lotta conversation about means based testing for benefits. Unsupportable fiscal & monetary policy has consequences.
Not to worry, once FJB helps the nation wake up from the mass psychosis he diagnosed us with two days ago, all will be well again. Magic!
beady eyed piece of socialist scht in the white house
He’s not even an ideologue he’s an empty opportunistic corruptocrat that will do anything for a vote and a buck. There’s no depth to FJB what you see is all he and his brood are. He won’t even acknowledge the grandchild his son sired with his stripped girlfriend..the same son who slept with his dead brothers wife. Don’t look for ldeologies with FJB there’s nothing there but an empty mean buffoon.
The grandchild will disown joe
And just what do the Dimmie Rats and neverTrumpers think about all this? Are they still convinced that the election was legitimate and we are now in very good hands?
What will it take for all these idiots to wake up and smell the covfefe? Mass genocide? Economic collapse? Nuclear war? Best two out of three?
About 20 years ago, I proposed that it may take a nuclear “event” to fix Americas problem. The major cities are gone, never to come back without a major, major rehab.
Imagine the exchange between Putin and the guys who do the targeting assignments for their warheads:
Putin: Remember Comrades! Don’t target any American cities who have helped us in the destruction of America. Only target the cities that are still full of patriots!
Targeting guys: Very funny, Vlad!!
The vaporization of only few cities would change the demographic immensely.
Might be a worthwhile “Do it ourself” project.
Why would they let a crisis of that magnitude go to waste.
Crisis is the rallying cry of the tyrant.” — James Madison
The Dems and Never Trumpers in my orbit are very quiet these days.
Sad bit is all this could be avoided if we stayed the course with Trumps economic security is national Security.
Truth is 535 elected representative failed every one of their constituents. They destroyed businesses, confiscated our work, violated our worship. 4th branch controls every aspect of federal government and state legislators with hands out for their silver in assisting stealing an election.
Time to end both Democrats and Republicans for THEY are the cause of deconstruction of our Republic.
Sadly, even the most “rational” of people I know that didn’t vote Trump in 2016, all I’ve seen is their resolve to vote the opposite going forward. This is who Kamala is referring to. Not that it would have mattered.
It was too much to ask from the American public to sit tight through four years of horse shit news media. That’s all we had to do.
They had to push up really REALLY Bad Inflation until they could find someone to pin it on.
Withhold, not push up
Retired Magistrate here: Went to the grocery store today just to check prices and see if there were any unadvertised deals.
Filet mignon at our Kroger store in Powell, Ohio is $31.00 a pound. Mandrin oranges I used to pay $1.29 for are now $2.49. I can still get 80/20 hamburger for $3.49 a pound and Salmon is up to $10.00 a pound.
I don’t think a lot of people are going to believe the Russia/Ukraine hogwash because prices were already starting to skyrocket long before the latest deflection from reality. People were already complaining about gas prices, food prices and building supply prices months ago. Sure, the die hard liberals will never admit it is their candidates fault, but most people know it has nothing to do with Russia/Ukraine.
I hope everyone is stocked up as much as you can. Remember, if you think you want to buy a big ticket item-wait several weeks and then decide if you really need it. If you have to replace an appliance, especially an older one, see if you can get it fixed. It is better than the new ones anyway. So, it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles; you really don’t need it to talk to you, open the door, give you the time and temp, etc. etc. The appliance just needs to keep things cold, make things hot, get things clean and dry things. It really is pretty simple if you think of it that way. The more extras you have on an appliance the more things to break. If you can, buy used appliances that just do the basics.
If you have an older car and it needs repairs, get it fixed. Used car prices are through the roof and you never know what problems you might have with a used car. As far as new cars go, many of them don’t have the features of the older cars due to lack of computer chips for various extras and new cars are really expensive.
If you own your home and the structure is sound, keep it; make sure you maintain it, but don’t spend a lot of money updating it. If you want to change something, paint and maybe get some new accessories you find at a yard or estate sale.
Now is the time to hold onto your money and be extremely frugal.
We had a similar discussion about gas today. The price jumped to $3.60 over the weekend which is ridiculous but everyone still remembers that it jumped from $1.90 to $3.30 over the last year. The Ukraine ruse isn’t fooling people.
I won’t watch the poor dementia ridden fake they put out to read a piece of propaganda tomorrow night, but I can only imagine how removed from reality it will be.
I am not going to watch.
Curious what issues he will prioritize.
American issues—or foreign.
Great advice anytime, but especially now. Thanks
I bought a side of beef last May from my cattle rancher on retainer (in Kentucky). Price per pound was $5.00 (steaks, roasts, ground beef, etc.). I expect the price to be 40+% higher this year.
I did the same in Central PA. Similar price, including vacuum seal packaging. Roasts are great in the InstaPot with a fresh loaf of bread from the bread machine. Plan to do it again this spring.
You are very wise! I agree with your philosophy, especially about the big ticket items…a lot of times, while making yourself wait, one discerns the true ‘need’ from the impulsive ‘want’. Marketers don’t want you doing that. They want the need, driven by fear, to predominate.
I love my old Sears Kenmore fridge. Never needed fixing, runs great. Is from 1994.
My mantra is repair, reuse, repurpose. I would put a scotsman to shame!
I have two filet mignon, bacon wrapped that I paid $4 for on sale at our Jewel.
There is an RCA/ Whirlpool upright freezer that has been running in the basement of this house since the home was built in 1967. It was several years old when it was moved in. It has never needed a repair.
Murthy says it’s all in your head.
Marcia, great comment full of good information and advice.
Theirs a lot to be said for the K.I.S.S. principal.
Nice, I am Scottish we invented Copper Wire.
Two Scots fighting over over a penny.
We are taking out the maximum allowable cash each day from the bank.
I really enjoy “ deal” shopping at the grocery store. We are spoiled here in Greater Vancouver B.C. as the competition is intense.
The wife and I are retired and seldom drive, as we can walk pretty much anywhere we need to go.
However we now have four older vehicles. I buy one whenever the right unit comes along.
They truly are better than cash… fuel efficient Hondas and Toyotas are as rare as hens teeth.
Cheers!
I wasnt aware they have a max limit for cash. May I ask what it is?
TRULY appreciate the wife’s “Retirement Toyota” Corolla bought in 2016. Agree on older cars….Honda or Toyota or Ford’s Panther platform cars(Lincoln Towncar, Ford Crown Vic).
No question that the cost of groceries is going up, but what happened to all of the bare shelves? Here in western Maine, grocery inventory is looking a lot better than it did a month or so ago. Of course, we’re having to pay a lot more to get what’s’ available.
I’m spending my money now. Soon it will be worthless. Each day it can buy less and less.
Same here. Pouring it into home improvements, preps. Tangibles with lasting value.
Add to the above: ALL of the writings of anyone who has been through what we see coming has answered the question “What would you do differently?”….snf have ALL said “Store more food bought at earlier prices”.
Agree!
Meanwhile, in other news:

In Ontariostan, Chinada, propane heating is .95/litre ($3.60US gallon. ) MILK is $4.99/2 quart carton. Gas is $1.60/L or $6 US gallon. There is Plenty of Worse Coming. And we live under Blackface Brownface Racist
Meanwhile, in North America:
No bank account for you.
$1.83 a litre here in Greater Vancouver.
( We may have Canada’s highest)
Glad I gave up milk…
Cheers!
Just bought groceries, the monthly trip, not the weekly one – $322 and change. For two people!
I don’t know how this fits in the sphere of consumer spending. Their was so much fraud and unaccounted 100’s of Billions in the last 2 years of the trillions of government entitlements and loans and unemployment scams. Sadly I am sure most on here and other hardworking and honest Americans and those that are retired most likely were unwilling to get part of that corrupt $. Also with most states already admitting they are unlikely to even go after the fraudsters in the unemployment scams ( ca. 10 billion, mi. 7 billion)this $ exists and likely is supporting a % of luxury consumer spending which has still been strong. I,like many others on here has kept spending to mainly food and only necessities. Pray and pray more
When this Fauci Bioweapon foolishness kicked off, you couldn’t get unemployment here in Florida if your life depended on it.
Imagine California, New York, Illinois, Washington etc. all deep blue loyal states for democrats stealing hundreds of billions in Covid Unemployment funds, nothing really gets done about it either and the money goes somewhere. Now tell me that’s not a real conspiracy between Biden Clan and them?
Any idea what 4th quarter GDP might have been if imports had been correctly recorded at that time?
Or perhaps an easier question – can we estimate how much of a GDP percentage the carryover represented?
The big ESG push by blackrock and the lefties is absurd. Environmental, Sustainable and Government, humph, tell me how 30 Trillion in debt is sustainable?

On the upside, at Walmart today their Oakleaf Merlot holding steady at $2.95 a bottle. Got some off brand spaghetti for $1 a one pound package. Also bought three 8 inch x12 American flags for .95 ea. Can never have too many.
Sorry, but if everyone here posted their grocery bill for the week, we would have no news.
It is interesting to compare various regions of the country. Being a California native, our perspective can markedly vary from other parts of the country. The COL where I live now, in rural Oregon, is so much lower, even with inflation, it’s like a different planet.
Agree,
Lighten up, Francis.
🤣🤣🤣
Ok Sgt. Hulka!
But Putin, nuclear war. We must sacrifice, no Russian vodka, glory to Ukraine.
If $7+ per gallon is national price, California will be closer to $10.
California is currently $4.50+/-. and the + side of that is substantial.
I’m guessing it was unexpected
Is the SOTU going to be canx?
Scary version, SOTU goes off and they cancel the elections. You know, emergency. 😉
What is it with this fake White House thing??? Is this set built outside his bedroom door???

I had a dream last night in which I ripped this octogenarian’s scalp off. It solved nothing, yet what used to be a nightmare.. I woke from a fantasy
American mainstream leftists are now anarchists.
Calling them Marxists or communists misses by a mile.
That dream died utterly in Venezuela.
The fixation now among leftists is on punishing America for its racist history (and present). But beyond that nihilist madness, the runaway welfare state has created the enormous superstition that money can simply be printed in infinite amounts, without consequences.
AOC wants free health care for all. When asked how you pay for that, she said “you just pay for it”. In other words, you just print the money.
The worst thing Obama did was to give huge raises to America’s government workers, during the depths of the 2009 recession. Bureaucrats now regard themselves as immune to any bad effect from the ups and downs of the business cycle. This was strongly reinforced during Co-Vid, as government employees collected their pay for months and years of lockdown. Of course teachers want the schools to stay closed while their checks kept coming. Frankenstein couldn’t have created a more horrifying monster.
Leftists do not regard taxation as an exercise in paying the bills. Leftists regard taxation as an exercise in punishing the rich.
Inflation, of course, is just the rich being greedy. AOC , the old reliable, says gas prices are up because the oil companies are greedy. And government workers will simply demand big raises to cover their costs.
Sensible people have long understood that socialism is a disaster. But the center-left still doesn’t grasp that the welfare state also destroys a healthy society.
Not anarchists, fascists!
The old Marxist idea was that there is an eternal struggle between the super rich and the poor. Left out of this analysis is the middle class, and the existence of a large middle class in the US was a refutation to Marxist dogma. That government dependance and a huge influx of poor across the southern border is degrading the middle class is by design. It helps to achieve the Marxist ideal. However, leftists today want a dictator to run the economy, much like in China. China is now full on fascist. That is what the left want.
Folks, Just a suggestion…
If you are going to comment with prices in your area, It helps the rest of us A LOT to know at least the State or what Country in the world ya live in. Something to give us a clue on your locale , even a region, like Midwest, or East coast would help.
Just your saying how much something costs ya when ya went to get fuel, or groceries, etc. ,
with out having something to compare it to in the readers/others locale,
to see just how things are where the rest of us live & pay for things,
does not help anyone compare just how things are for them or for YOU.
(This goes as well for those around the country (US) & as well the rest of the world)
Earlier I see that a Canadian, IIRC, told us there prices for some things and at least we were told it was in another country, and we could compare those prices to our own “LOcal” prices with the help of the relative cost added into the comment. ( Like Liters to Gallons , for example.)
While another post mentioned how much it costs for meat , but not where it was.
I can tell ya how much I would pay for items in Minnesota, but the same products are not likely the same price in Virginia, or Oregon.
So, without having a “benchmark” to compare things to, telling the prices of commodities in YOUR area means little to nothing to OUR area if we are not able to take into account whether or not we have the same supply lines/chains or distance from the ones who produce & ship commodities.
I’d reckon Our costs for seafood is higher, since we are far from the ocean in MN, but our costs for pork or beef are likely less due to availability & transportation since they are generally locally “produced”/”grown”.
So my saying how much OUR costs are for pork, beef, or seafood, with out something to compare it to in YOUR locality doesn’t help a lick to anyone.
Just a suggestion.. Do as ya like. Sure is nice when folks help one another out though. 😉
God Bless & be well~!
Agree. Gasoline now at $ 3.85 up 30 cents in last three weeks. Upstate NY. Bought gas in February 2020 for $ 1.95 in the full employment Trump economy.
FJB and his sidekick FJT.
I live in Florida and 4 Ever have wondered why Seafood, even local, has always been high ?
And this is only what is put out to the news media and the social networks to propagandize. No press conference, no cabinet officials to answer questions, no push back…………..Fu***ng take it or leave it, we simply don’t care.
The hidden truth is the deficit is 3X and so is inflation at 3X.
Damn $6 to $7 bucks per gallon. And it could even be worse given the world’s state of affairs. Every time I pump that gas I am going to smile knowing somewhere that someone who voted for Biden is filling up and getting pissed off.
Withholding the port data probably had no effect on the dollar value of reporting. That was most likely to hide the Biden’s failure to visibly move more cargo after all the BS statements made.
The dollar value of the cargo is reported by the shipper except Canada where they use the Canadian system to report data for government stats.
“Withholding the port (sic) data probably had no effect on the dollar value of reporting.”
Withholding import data causes GDP to be overstated. Overstated GDP numbers allowed Biden to lie about his economic achievements.
He has overstated his achievements throughout his lengthy political career.

The Arab spring was caused by the sudden shift of grain production to ethanol production. That created shortages and resulting in I believe a doubling of the price of rice in Egypt.
We are experiencing skyrocketing prices for farm Chemicals that had already skyrocketed last fall. My guess is many farmers who routinely pre-sell will not be able to afford the chemicals and fuel to plant or harvest, or without sufficient chemicals regarless of cost have less yield then required to fill their contracts.
Americans will pay the price and eat. I am thinking the impact on the third world will be much greater then the “arab spring” food riots. I am also of the opinion that wholesale starvation is a real possibility. Would you care to gaze into this crystal ball and see what you see as far as world wide impacts?
Good point.
“[W]holesale starvation is a real possibility.”
This has become a routine occurrence in North Korea. Elsewhere, grains that were used to feed livestock will become food staples.
Poor nations will eat more cereal grains and less meat.
another shoe to drop is cash flow. With terms at 30-60 days, but door to door days in transit moving beyond 60 days companies are paying for inventory they can’t even ship. Turns are going to be halved. When demand goes over the edge, there’s going to be a lot of over priced inventory in transit or in a warehouse.
“[C]ompanies are paying for inventory they can’t even ship.”
Clearly, no company can continue to bear these costs indefinitely. Either the logistical logjam is cleared or purchasing managers close their checkbooks. Job losses will soon follow.
Stolen elections clearly have grave consequences.
Trump “losing” re-election will go down in history as one of the biggest lost opportunities in world history. No joke.
The patriot nurse has interesting perspective and advice that ties together the current administration, COVID and current events in Ukraine.
“Additionally, methinks we are likely to get some increased economic clarity about why the White House needed Ukraine to become the big shiny thing with such urgency.”
The shoving of the big shiny thing down our throats may be the reason for the delay in the SOTU speech.
It’s all planned.
The United States and the entire world is facing a sovereign debt crisis the likes of which the world has never seen. Unfunded entitlements, under funded retirements, trillions in national debt, printing trillions of dollars of fiat currency, and personal debt that’s in the trillions. If it’s possible Europe may be in worse financial straights than North America? There is no way out of this self created debt ridden house of cards. Any financial collapse would see world wide chaos and riots in the streets. There needs to be diversions! Pandemics and war are a temporary solution. Kick the can down the road as long as possible. No political party wants to be in office when this explodes. And it’s guaranteed to happen sometime in the future……
“If it’s possible Europe may be in worse financial straights than North America?”
The euro has lost half its exchange value against the US dollar since the subprime loan debacle of 2008.
Six to seven bucks for a gallon of gas? That would put it at eight bucks in Calimexistan.
This is nuts.
Lately I have become very concerned. I used to be a very strong person . Self employed my entire life, somewhat successful, nobody’s fool. One who strived to be well informed with strong opinions ,grounded in a wealth of knowledge gleaned lots of research, lots of reading ,with good advice from some very wise elders in my life. Now there are very few places to find the truth . Less every day. The older generation is gone and I feel exhausted mentally. I’ll used to feel that I would overcome, always , eventually, but now I fear that since the obstacles We need to over come are growing exponentially it will be too late. I say this not for sympathy. I am concerned that if I am correct and I am a strong willed individual, and this disparity is overcoming people like me how are we going to prevail ? We need help from the weaker masses to defeat this onslaught they don’t seem to have a clue or even care. Everything , every institution seems to have been corrupted. The common thread of everything I read is that it identifies another lever of power being identified as corrupted and unencumbered by the laws or the constitution that are there to protect us. Nobody every pays a price for their corruption . The opposite seems true. Bill Barr being a prime example with his pension, the money’s grifted all his life, going to church every Sunday with Jim Commy ,his best friend ,and now a
book deal for icing on the cake. I hope I am alone in these feelings of dread because if I am not and people like me are being ground down we are in big trouble.
Why do the wicked prosper and the righteous suffer affliction?
Hoo boy!
In the book of Job, his friends offer their various explanations as to why Job suffers. Job denounces them, one and all, as being “miserable comforters”.
In the Psalms, King David’s choir director marvels that the wicked prosper. Not until he enters the sanctuary to conduct the worship service does he come to realize the magnitude of his error.
Godly suffering is an act of holy worship. The wicked worship themselves and their possessions.
Which one will know eternal rewards in the life to come and which one will endure unending loss?
This explanation may not bring you much comfort if you lack faith in God but it has steeled the righteous throughout the centuries.
I too came to realize that the passing of a generation left me adrift. I remained afloat when I realized
All flesh is grass
It’s glory is as the flower thereof
The wind blows
The flower fades
But the Word of God endures forever
In summary, suffering in this life will seem cheap compared to the glory awaiting the just in the life to come.
Thanks for your heartfelt reply.
I really appreciate and agree with your sentiments .
For what it’s worth I have not lost my faith. I wasn’t referring to faith. I was referring to what everyday seems more and more as an insurmountable task to overcome the corruption and evil that is apparently infecting every aspect of our lives.
If in the end we are to loose this great country we inherited ,that was the beacon of hope for the world ,then so be it.
I would rather not want to leave such a corrupted ,messy and miserable future to my kids and grand children or any ones loved ones for that matter.
Hopefully something positive will happen to give us hope.
It just occurred to me as I was finishing this up that your response, Christian, is a positive that has just happened. It’ a start.
Thanks,
JimS
John 14:1:
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
2 Thess. 3:
3 But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. 4 And we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things that we command. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ…
13 As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.
Galatians 6:
6 Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. 7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
There is an ultimate call to accounting that we may actually see sooner than later.

I read if you went back to the previous formula used to calculate inflation in Jimmy Carter’s days that included gasoline, heating fuels and rents the inflation rate would be at least 14%. I am guessing the government will change the formula to calculate inflation again soon, to SLOW INFLATION! (sarc)
As Russia bombs and kills Ukrainians we will hear Biden SOTU address tell us we need to be greener and nicer.
He will exhort Putin to conduct a “kinder and gentler “ invasion and use the example of our southern border to demonstrate how it ought to be done.
When you have a puppet President and Commander in Chief a lot can go wrong and absolutely no one is held accountable. In less than one week covid has disappeared, Ukraine is all the news, not a murmur about our borders or economic situation. So far JoeBama has done the exact opposite of what would the best interests of our nation. I expect that to continue.
If corn is any indication (and it is) things will be far worse before they get better. Corn closed as of 2/28/22 @ $6.92/bu. Which is a 16.6% rise over 2021, which was a 22.57% increase of 2020, which was a 24.82% increase lever 2019. This AM corn went beyond the 2/28 closing to $7.06. Ethanol and corn based food products have yet to see an end to price increases and will be felt by everyone. Rocky road ahead.
