WASHINGTON DC – Multiple media organizations are reporting that Ukraine and Russia will hold peace talks on the border of Ukraine and Belarus.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed to Sky News that the two sides would hold the talks on the border of Ukraine and Belarus, where some of the Russian troops invading his country had been held.
Zelensky had refused to agree to an earlier request for talks in Belarus, arguing it was not neutral territory.
Sunday was the fourth day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has been slowed by fierce resistance from Ukrainian troops and private citizens.
Several cities including the capitol of Kyiv have been bombarded by Russia, and there has additionally been fighting in the streets.
Sky News, referring to a statement from Zelensky’s office, said the two delegations will meet “without preconditions” near the Pripyat River. (read more)

While I find it hard to believe that Ukraine is fairing that well against Russian forces, the propaganda going out is that Russia is struggling. Are we seeing a new version of Baghdad Bob, possibly? So many fake news stories going out, like the Ghost of Kiev, the phony pictures taken from other stories many months ago, sure makes it feel like it’s Baghdad Bob doing a redo.
I don’t support Putin, in any way, shape or form, and believe him to be in the wrong with this invasion. I don’t believe we should get in a war against Russia over the Ukraine either. Some sources have stated that the primary targets of Russian attacks have been against bioweapon laboratories of the US that are in Ukraine. If we are actively working on bioweapons – our country is in the wrong, and going against treaties we have signed against bio-warfare.
This whole thing just seems wrong. I see no good guys in this fight, other than the civilians who are caught living there, contending as best they can against all this.
If there is any truth to the ‘Russians are losing’ propaganda, then it is clear that Russians can no longer do anything militarily with competence. Expect China to take everything east of the Urals in a heartbeat.
Yeah, I don’t believe it either. Invading without being able to supply your troops after two days? Unable to coordinate commands? Unable to dominate the skies? Orders to not even shoot back?
A lot of people don’t seem to have any sense of scale here. The Russians appear to have advanced over 100 miles from their starting positions along all of their axes of attack in 72 hours. It would be perfectly normal for any military after such a rapid advance to pause to regroup and to allow supply lines to catch up. Also, Ukraine is a big country (the 2nd largest in Europe). As I mentioned in another post, from east to west, Ukraine would stretch from New Jersey’s Atlantic coast to somewhere around St. Louis, Missouri and from north to south, from Toronto to somewhere around the Kentucky-Tennessee border. For historical perspective, it took the Germans roughly two months to conquer Ukraine in 1941. It took our army 17 days, over more favorable terrain, to advance ~250-300 miles to Baghdad.

The USSR “took” Afghanstan to the same extent we did, and their puppet regime there survived for two years after the withdrawal of the Soviet military, which is infinitely longer than the puppet regime we set up lasted after our military withdrew.
Russia pummeled Chechnya twice, taking casualties similar to those that we took during our Iraq and Afghanistan debacles, and they also spanked Georgia quickly and pretty cleanly in 2008. Their military is certainly one of the world’s more competent ones.

If you go on wikipedia and see the Ukrainian Airforce has 100 Combat aircraft, and a handful of helipcopters and the airfields aren’t that many. They had 900 tanks. I don’t see how you “Win” with that. How are the Russians “losing” because they are being cautious? And you’d have to know the state of the attacking forces to know if they are having “supply problems”. Maybe the Russians counted on suprise, and didnt’ build up a big supply force. who knows.
The Russian airforce could have turned Kiev into rubble by now. There isno viable Ukrainian airforce or surface to air system that would stop it.. Why hasn’t it? You need to ask the right questions.

I think it’s safe to assume the Russian government’s goal is to end up with a neutral Ukraine that trades freely with them and with the rest of Europe. This is what they’ve been saying they want for 15+ years. To achieve this, they will need to conduct the war in a way that won’t sow hatred for Russia among the Ukrainian population, which is probably why they aren’t just leveling every major city they encounter, which is something they definitely have the capacity to do.
BTW. John Mearsheimer put forward the argument as early as 2015 that the best possible outcome for Ukraine, the US and Russia is a neutral Ukraine that trades freely with the West and with Russia. The US has no important strategic interests in Ukraine and by dangling the possibility of NATO membership out in front of them, we’ve done nothing but steer Ukraine headlong into the conflict now taking place there.

They’ve been saying they want Ukraine to be a neutral buffer state for years. If Russia does annex territory, I would expect them to annex Novorossiya and Donbas. They might want to annex all of the territory to the east of the Dniepr. This would mean incorporating into Russia the parts of Ukraine where the majority are either ethnically Russian or are native Russian speakers. We’ll see though. My hunch is that annexing territory is second on Putin’s list of priorities to securing a neutralized Ukraine.
Russia wants Ukraine to adhere to the Minsk Agreement which they signed in 2014 to allow for elections in the Donbass region in the east which is dominated by the Nazis who are terrorizing the inhabitants.

Let’s take this a step further. The US/West has now sanctioned the state bank of Russia. This will not only affect the EU and US with regard to oil and gas prices, but will also forge the beginning of the end for the US petro dollar. Something’s not right here. Musk’s satellites are for satellite phones, not cellphones. Iridium phones have transponders that communicate to ground with L-band, around 162 MHz, and ~25GHz between satellites. I doubt this is something you can just turn on to provide internet and cell service.

Trump wanted to a) get NATO back to its intended mission, and b) avoid war with Russia. Getting Ukraine into NATO would have achieved both. Ukraine in NATO would have taken a Russian invasion off the table.
Trump wanted NATO allies to PAY MORE and DO MORE and he succeeded in both. He was against Turkey in NATO, not Ukraine.
However, what Trump was doing behind the scenes was not broadcast because he didn’t want Russia to know about it until it happened. After Zelenskyy defeated Biden’s puppet president Poroshenko in 2019, talks between Trump and the new president heated up.

Then remarkably, the U.S. Dept. of State stated Zelensky should not negotiate with Vladimir Putin for a ceasefire. Now today, EU Chair Ursula von der Leyen stated Zelensky should not meet with the Russians. Why? He is the President of his country; Ukraine is at war with Russia, and it is Zelensky’s responsibility to treat on behalf of his country to secure the safety of his citizenry.
So, I read his biography to find a clue why this puzzlement is so. It turns out that in 2019, Zelensky ran for the Ukrainian presidency on a platform of peace and better relations with Russia. It is said he won an unexpected victory as a populist, given his previous career as an actor and comedian. It would seem a majority of voters in Ukraine agreed with Zelensky’s views. Considering his stated desire for better relations with Russia, it would have been congruent, if during the past three years Russia had thus reached out to him in a reciprocal manner. Perhaps Zelensky and Putin have been in contact all along.
Zelensky had an indictment in the courts on Biden, if that tells you anything. That’s why he would not meet with him in Ukraine. Any of these Globalist pieces of trash won’t step foot in Ukraine, especially now.

Useless without fighter pilots. Ukrainian fighter pilots won’t know how to use radar, manage weapons, etc etc. You can’t hop out of a MiG 29 into an F-16. In peacetime, figure a year. In war, still about a month.

They are trapped already as Russian artillery from both sides of the cauldron will obliterate anything in between. Conducting a successful disengagement and withdrawal that doesn’t turn into a rout is actually not as easy as it might sound. The best way to do it is to stage a successful attack that causes the enemy to retreat. That gives your army some space and time to withdraw without being attacked. Ukrainian forces in Donbas may not have the capability to do that and are finding themselves pinned in place by the Russian/DLPR forces arrayed in front of them.
That’s exactly what this is about. If they pull out, they lose and Russia wins.

If this is accurate, then Eastern Ukraine is about to fall. Surrounded on three sides, Ukrainian forces’ only breakout is going west and they’ll have flanking fire from both sides (north and south). Perhaps Putin’s move toward Kiev was a diversion. Great if you can take it, but if they resist–that’s OK too as it refocuses the attention there, vice in the east.
Maybe Russia annexes the independent sections in the east and let’s Zelinsky survive in the west as part of the ceasefire. As this blog points out, there’s so much disinformation, it’s hard to figure out what’s truly going on.
The eastern sections of Ukraine, Luhansk and Donesk in the Dombass Basin, are practically all Russian speaking and from what I hear have wanted to unite with Russia for a while. The inhabitants do have Russian passports available to them. There has been a demarcation area between the Dombass and the western areas over which the “Ukies” have been shelling he inhabitants of the Dombass for 7 years. So eastern Ukraine will not “fall” but will be relieved to be out from under the shells.
My understanding is that Russia does not want the Dombass to become part of Russia but to remain in Ukraine and just not threaten the security of Russia. They are denazifying and demilitarising Ukraine. They do not, to my understanding, want to decimate the Ukraine or kill the citizens just end up with a neutral country on their border.
