The problem is that AI is programmed by humans – wicked, selfish, sinful, fallen humans. We cannot rely on humans to ensure AI is programmed with adequate safeguards in place. We should expect some human programmers will try to cheat, to take shortcuts, to try to gain an edge over others and will cut corners.
There is no way yet devised to make humans safe from being dangerous to other humans

He directly acknowledged the threats, so at least we’re no longer conspiracy theorists.
The same imperialist govt-private partnership that inflicted the covid response on us, even if not covid itself, and that even now subjects us to elevated nuclear war risk in Ukraine, will be the ones inflicting AI on us.
When we speak freely, AI will gauge whether we’re a threat and then our opinions will go straight into the bit bucket and anti messaging will be dribbled into zeitgeist to ensure we’re ostracized.
Aaron Mate speculated earlier that Trump is more about revenge against those who wronged him than he is about fundamental reform. He may be right. No country for old man.

I loved this presentation. JD delivered this speech with authority and dignity, while at the same time respect for the audience of world leaders.
JD did a great job letting the world know that for America, the phrase “American First” means we will no longer be played for fools on the world stage.
What a difference from the previous administration.
VP Vance gave a great speech. However, I personally think AI is the most dangerous technology that we have seen to date. It is a technology that will be abused by every crook, thief, government, con man, and creeps we can’t even imagine. With governments investing and supporting it’s development, it’s not a matter of if, but when it used against us.

I just read so much about USAid purchasing propaganda news with our tax money. I watched smart people get sucked in with the barrage of propaganda. Some people just can’t see past the BS. That is worrisome. I watched the Covid 19 fiasco. Another blitz on reality. Our schools place 40th out of 40, appears to be non competitive. Children today cannot read or write cursive. Some 4th graders can’t even read. It seems that the system is designed to overcome humans. We are at a disadvantage to be taken over by a computer system that is fed massive amounts of information and used throughout society by Big Tech, Big Ag, Big Pharma, and ultimately Big Government.
I don’t trust them. They violated the Constitution with the Patriot Act. Unless the Patriot Act is revoked, and the 4th Amendment is reinstated with the proviso that 5 Eyes cannot spy on American citizens either. That the CIA cannot spy or act on American soil. Then I say this is just going to be another oppressive tool we will have to overcome.
But I think the problem for the power hungry Tech folks… they need massive amounts of energy to make AI work.
So basically we can unplug them. Or, if worse comes to worse we can just use water.
If Vance is involved, I’m less confident. Thiel propped him up in much the same way Obama was propped up. The 2 are basically clones. Their stories are basically the same. Thiel handed Vance $15M to capture an Ohio seat in the US Senate, much as happened in Illinois with Obama. Oligarchs decided who would win, not citizens.
Both speak so smooth, don’t they? Their paymasters chose well.
If you find yourself being led by a pied piper, know that that was Thiel’s plan all along. That’s what he’s paying for.

I don’t much care which bought-off Uniparty candidate wins. Apparently, you only care about little R’s and D’s.
If the EU puts shackles on their AI development efforts, they fall farther behind in technology advancement. That leaves the U.S. in an excellent leadership position with China racing to copy what it can.
Strange thing about the Chinese: masterful copiers, embellishers, modifiers and adapters of other ideas, but so few original ideas breaking ground to help civilizations around the globe. Perhaps centuries of forcing obedience to the Imperial order squelched curiosity.
AI is too expensive the way the moneyed people are approaching it.
Please, please look at fractal technology which can do it faster, MUCH cheaper and on a handheld device. No YUGE expenditure of energy or waste of land for buildings.
I guess that while I was busy being a caretaker of a husband dying of Cancer and Parkinson disease, there must have been an introduction to AI that I missed.
I remember in high school taking a course in basic accounting. I also remember taking two or three college courses in accounting. Without a foundational knowledge of the subject of accounting, I would have been lost as a goose on a rainy morning.
What is it? How does it work? How will it fit in with the technology we use today?
I’m sure I would have enjoyed J.D. Vance and his speech more if I knew more fundamentally about AI. Teaching is an art and few people with high IQs understand how to involve those with IQs that are less that 130.
