Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in DC earlier today to visit the White House and deliver a speech before a joint session of congress. Dressed in his customary casual attire, Zelenskyy demanded representatives of the American people adhere to his demands and provide more taxpayer funding regardless of public opinion.

How does this military aid compare to the trillions of untold damage that would be caused by a Russian attack on NATO states? Chump change! Conservatives used to recognize the necessity to keep the Soviet Russians out of Europe, a threat that the US, under the horrific FDR administration, created in the first place by supplying and building up Stalin’s Russia.
Many conservatives these days are addicted to vast and convoluted conspiracy theories as an explanation for everything. In the case of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it’s uncanny how closely they dovetail with Russian disinformation. Tucker Carlson may as well work for Russia Today. Russia has a centuries-long track record of brutalizing and colonizing its neighbors, you’ll have to reach a bit further than FOX or dopamine hits on sensationalist blogs to learn this history though. Robert Conquest’s work is a good place to start as well as the excellent, recent “Stalin’s War” by Sean McMeekin. Putin is no traditionalist Christian, he’s a cold and calculating murderer in a long line of Russian czars.
We have seen this latest iteration of the same old scheme play out over and over…..where a war is created because it serves a useful purpose for its beneficiaries. Based on history, it is quite reasonable to assume that this “manufactured war” provides cover to divert attention from other corrupt deeds by our government servants…..likely a massive transfer of American taxpayer wealth, and a cover when much of this weaponry shows up later in the wrong hands.
To fully understand things, it is important to realize that selling arms generates revenue for the military industrial complex (MIC), but also generates income to their paid lobbyists, the American politicians (and staff) who approve appropriations / authorizations, and the banks and international financiers who harvest the interest our treasury pays for the money it borrows. Think of it as the DC – Wall Street feed trough.
Additionally, the distribution of the latest weaponry also forces the development of new weapons or counter-measures that forces the cycle to repeat….thus generating further income for the MIC, lobbyists, and politicians, as well as interest payments to those who finance – and benefit from wars.
This, by the way, is the reason there is no such thing as as a short war that the US actually wins (the last one was WWII). There is no money in winning short wars…..the money is to be made in long, drawn out conflicts that never end.
