Just a short note to bookmark for later 2024 reference about political opportunism and parseltongue. You might remember South Dakota Kristi Noem being adamant that she was not vetoing a legislative bill blocking male (transgender) athletes from Women’s sports. [HERE] Yesterday she took action to send the bill back to the state house. Read the rejection letter from the governor’s office:
Note: “bills returned shall be treated in the same manner as vetoed bills”…. with her signature; yet she still proclaims she did not veto the bill.
It’s a small note, but a note worth making nonetheless. For a politician who claims she speaks frankly and truthfully, there’s a great deal of parseltongue, a decepticon trait, on this one. Disappointing, just sayin’.
When asked why she doesn’t support the bill, Noem said she has received advice and counsel that the law would fail if challenged in federal court. Specifically Noem implied the NCAA would sue South Dakota and she believes the state would lose a lawsuit based on the law. If that is her position, essentially she is attempting to avoid litigation, proactively planning to lose that litigation, on a law supported by the majority in her state.
Like Sundance said…..”MAGA-lite”. This is the Koch side showing though.
I’m sure glad to know that she didn’t veto the bill.
She has certainly learned DC-doublespeak even though she lives in her state and not the District.
Buh-bye, girl.
It was nice for a while.
Why do we eat our own? The letter states that she sent the bill back with “specific recommendations”. What were those specific recommendations? She did not veto the bill; rather, the House did not accept her recommendations. What were her recommendations and why did she make them? She was working to make a bill that was acceptable to the citizens of her state and would not result in a lost lawsuit. Could no one in the SD government work out a compromise that she could sign and they could all get what they wanted?
Two minutes of listening to her tells me she is not a Trump. However, she’s a strong enough lady to get elected and stand up to the SD House and all of us, so she has her own ways and methods. What they are I don’t know because I haven’t seen enough real analysis of her point of view. Rather, all this incurious piling on as though she is on the other team. Think of the good she has already done for her state, of her bravery to keep SD open through the COVID-19 craziness, of going right ahead with the motorcycle rally. Give her the respect she is due and find out what she is saying. She doesn’t sound like a decepticon to me; she impresses me as a lady with a good brain who speaks honestly. Is it a good idea to pass a law that pleases but then costs SD millions of dollars in litigation fees when you can achieve your ends by a different route? Where are the people who have used the argument that it’s better to get part of the way to your goal when you can’t get there all at once? Barnestormer here implies that the Tennessee governor took a similar path to sign a viable bill.
Noem has been a good governor (I live in South Dakota), but in this instance she’s clearly going against the wishes of her constituents for political reasons.
The recommendation change that matters is this one-
A team or sport designated as being female is available only to participants who are female, based on their biological sex, as reflected on the birth certificate or affidavit provided upon initial enrollment in accordance with
verified in accordance with§ 13-27-3.113-67-2.The part of the bill that directly addressed that the gender would be based on biological sex at birth was the section that Noem’s “style and form” removed-
13-67-2. Annual statement–False statement as cause for removal. Once each school year and before permitting a student to participate on an athletic team or in a sport, the sponsoring or sanctioning entity shall obtain a written statement verifying: (1) The student’s age; (2) The student’s biological sex, as ascertained at or before birth in accordance with the student’s genetics and reproductive biology;
Noem clearly understands what her proposed changes to the bill would do, and is clearly siding with businesses and out-of-state concerns. I agree that parts of the bill were overly onerous for schools to enforce, and there’s a good chance that South Dakota universities would run afoul of NCAA dictates, but she’s straight up lying to say that she’s defending girls sports after doing this.
Time for college women to leave NCAA and reinvigorate AIAW.

Federalist dove into this entire affair with a dozen well written articles.
She is a liar of the worst order. Her “form and style revisions” destroy the bill in entirety. Removes any and all enforcement and recourse power to parties harmed when a woke high school for example refuses to comply. The NCAA has no rule in place to legally challenge this, she is lying 100% in this regard and assuming everyone is stupid.
Instead Noem claims she is being “bullied” and “will form a coalition to fight the NCAA”. Funny, multiple states passed idevtucal legislation signed by their respective governors without hesitation.
Noem “senior advisors”: a healthcare system lobbyist protecting his client ability to perform gender mutilation surgery on kids in SD, and a deeply tied CoC lackey.
Noem came across as a narcissistic weirdo on Tucker, arrogant and lying through her teeth while playing victim. She is done.
Sparty, Noem didn’t come across well in that interview. Her answers seem disingenuous and repetitive. I didn’t understand her argument other than they would be subject to lawsuits. Probably, every law is litigated now, so you just allow all this craziness without trying?
She may have an argument, but I didn’t get it.
Noem, keeping company with the majority of her GOPe colleagues, cringes in fear of retribution from militant homosexuals and their perverted medical and legal community fellow travelers. I’d advise these spineless fools to fear the Lord’s judgment instead. It is coming and it will have eternal consequences. God loves us, but is willing to destroy us when we fail to honor Him and add to His glory.
Once she blinked on this, she was crossed off my list of potential LEADERS. The list is mighty short.
She made no sense on Tucker by repeating , over and over without further explanation, that she had to veto the bill to build a “coalition.”I don’t think even Kristi understood what she was saying.
The shill is outed. Huge red flag when she dismissed conservative outrage as “disappointment” at CPAC. RINO-speak if I ever heard it. Good to know now that shge’s owned…for whatever reason…by the alphabet child predators.
