Just a short note to bookmark for later 2024 reference about political opportunism and parseltongue. You might remember South Dakota Kristi Noem being adamant that she was not vetoing a legislative bill blocking male (transgender) athletes from Women’s sports. [HERE] Yesterday she took action to send the bill back to the state house. Read the rejection letter from the governor’s office:
Note: “bills returned shall be treated in the same manner as vetoed bills”…. with her signature; yet she still proclaims she did not veto the bill.
It’s a small note, but a note worth making nonetheless. For a politician who claims she speaks frankly and truthfully, there’s a great deal of parseltongue, a decepticon trait, on this one. Disappointing, just sayin’.
When asked why she doesn’t support the bill, Noem said she has received advice and counsel that the law would fail if challenged in federal court. Specifically Noem implied the NCAA would sue South Dakota and she believes the state would lose a lawsuit based on the law. If that is her position, essentially she is attempting to avoid litigation, proactively planning to lose that litigation, on a law supported by the majority in her state.
The letter is worse on the second reading. Likely some legal stooge wrote it for her, but she signed it.
A link to the executive orders. Note the call for a special legislative session to address the issue.

If the bill approved by the legislature is deemed insufficient by the Governor, isn’t this course of action prudent in spite of the optics?
If what she said was true, that she had been discussing this bill for months with “legal scholars” (see recent Tucker Carlson interview), why didn’t she raise those concerns on March 8th, when she tweeted that she was excited to be signing this bill very soon?
I’ll answer “she lied”, Alex. ?
She is a liar.
Grammatical error. No one proofed it?
Embarrassing and unprofessional. And indicative.
Can a “non veto” veto be overridden?
Only with a ‘non-override’ override.
By the letter above, if the legislature “corrects” it to her satisfaction, and she then deigns to “certify” it, it becomes law.
Parseltongue indeed.
We gotta remember. There is only one Donald J. Trump. Nobody else can do what he does. All these other people are politicans. What do politicans worry about? Getting elected.
She won’t.
Why does anyone think she is anything more than a good looking woman who is doing pretty well as governor of SD? She is not presidential material and we should move on. No need to be disappointed.
Small state with small population less than 885,000. There are more folks living in Pinellas County, Fl (975,000) than in the entire state of South Dakota. More diverse, too. And, that is just 1 of Ron DeSantis’ 67 counties.
Sigh! I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but its such developments like these that I am really beginning to hate politics! Either way this goes she will own it so we will see. Thanks for the warning.
The good news is when Jesus returns, there will be no more politics as that is totally a human thing to lord over us that makes us a wretched species.
I hope He comes soon!
REC 100X
So dang disappointing…:(
Actually, no, she showed who she really is. Gutless.
I hear North Dakota needs someone for a vacancy on the License Plate Commission.
When the first girl at a SD high school gets sexually molested by a 300 lb ex- boy, please remember this sack of $hit.
Yeah, as though there is a chance it would be reported and prosecuted.
Is he disappointed when in congress, check her record. Did she deviate from John Boener? Nope
She disappointed
The NCAA Regulations are suggestive of a position that testosterone in the bloodstream of a transgender female, who is not getting estrogen treatments for feminization, has a built-in performance enhancer, and therefore, cannot compete against biological females.
“2. A trans female (MTF) student-athlete being treated with testosterone suppression medication for Gender Identity Disorder or gender dysphoria and/or Transsexualism, for the purposes of NCAA competition may continue to compete on a men’s team but may not compete on a women’s team without changing it to a mixed team status until completing one calendar year of testosterone suppression treatment.”
I do not see why NCAA and the South Dakota legislature are really that far apart, if any at all.
TRANSATHLETE College transgender athlete policies
The NCAA can change their rules on a whim. The right will fold and the left will push all the sports to go further and they will comply. This is ground you don’t give up.
I just cannot understand how any father can stand for this. You take your daughters out. Immediately. You do not look back. You let the perverts rot in their own stew.
I can not agree more on this stance. Women and I mean real biological women need to boycott and participate in sanctioned women sports only. On the latter I would probably assume that the trans victim lobby would protest that too, so round and round we go. The point is, women athletes both on a professional level and collegiate are too afraid to make a stand which is why this is allowed so far.
All parents need to remove their young girls from any school that allows this.
College scholarship or not these young ladies will be much better off and not tied to a life of debt and brainwashed in the process.
If she cannot stand up to the NCAA, how she gonna stand up to other nations as POTUS?
She should have told the NCAA to pound sand and turned around and sued the NCAA for exploitation of student athletes. NCAA is just an enforcer of the college football semi-professional league cartel for the NFL.

A rose is a rose is a rose.
What an unprofessional, unthinking, robotic hack she is. (IOW, a typical eGOP shill.)
Notice this sentence in the letter:
“Therefore, my only option consistent with the constitution is the fail to certify the bill and return it to you.”
Even in this era of no standards whatsoever, it’s an embarrassment to have such a ridiculous typo in such a high-profile – and very short – letter.
The Governor speaks with a fork tongue better to discover the decepticon now than in 2024 or 2028.
Yup, she’s a Republican.
Feckless.
Pfft. Well there it is. She had the opportunity to skyrocket in the MAGA party by leading the charge on this issue and caved in to special interest groups. Typical. The American people are starving for a leader like Trump who stands his ground. She is not that leader. So be it.
Arkansas passed theirs.
She was all FOR it till it came to SIGNING it!
Sounds like she is another RINO.
In retrospect, I guess we really should consider ourselves fortunate that we found out now. How many of us (besides Sundance) would have really paid much attention to this even a year ago? Thank You Sundance for keeping our EYES and EARS WIDE OPEN!!!
I am SO sick of Weasly Politicians. Anyone else?
https://info.cq.com/resources/state-by-state-guide-to-gubernatorial-veto-types/
South Dakota: Governor must veto bills within five days after “transmittal” from legislature or they automatically become law. That time frame is extended to 15 days for bills presented during the last five days of a regular legislative session or after adjournment before they automatically become law. Legislators can call a special session to override a veto with a 2/3rd vote of both chambers
All I took away from this is the NCAA’s $$$ is more important than state sovereignty and the will of the people in a state. College athletics are more important than morality. Gov Noem is like a kid on the playground getting cheered on to fight a bigger kid by her friends, and when she tries to thread the needle and defeat the opponent selected for her without taking a pounding, the cheers turns to jeers for not having the bravery to commit to being bloodied.
Life ain’t fair and the world is mean. But it’s easy to be disappointed in Gov. Noem and offer no support when you had nothing invested in her to begin with. But many still tune into those big money college games giving the NCAA money. Just like the Pro-leagues. By the way, the Woketopia pros aren’t created in a vacuum.
Maybe you should turn your ire to the NCAA and start making them pay.
Also, if you want to take a stand, be willing to pay the price personally. Not expect SD or NC or some other state to take the pain for you. Be willing to put your favorite team in the crosshairs for retaliation by the NCAA on principle.
Excellent point! Just like MSM, corporations that are globalist schills, the music industry, Hollywood, professional sports, citizens need to start talking with their wallets and conscience. STOP SUPPORTING these people! Not that hard to figure out!
Jedi9, some of us have.
Agreed. No matter how small my piece of commerce may be, it NO LONGER goes to: Dick’s Sporting Goods; Nike; the PGA, nor other businesses which drop conservatives’ products or services for political reasons. I also no longer watch televised sporting events and award shows. Conservatives had BETTER start boycotting the idiot businesses which decide to “practice politics”. What those liberals do on their own time is their free choice with no ramifications, but DON’T try to spoon feed me your drivel while I tune in (pay) to watch a ball game. I’m not paying you for your political views – keep your yap shut about that stuff. I love the horrible ratings such events have been getting. Time to tighten up the screws. And for Noem, that is too damn bad. Thought we had a good one there. I agree; better to find out sooner than later. She clearly doesn’t have the _ _ _ _ _ to do what needs to be done. Definitely sad to learn that.
This incident is a lesson in how we end up with Bushes, Rubios, Grahams, etc etc etc.
Battered Conservative Syndrome. It’s real.
Very very disappointing.
It’s not a veto, but should be treated as if it was a veto? So, it’s a veto?
“Only girls should play girls’ sports.”
(“Unless the NCAA is involved, in which case the NCAA makes the rules and will dictate to us who is a girl and who is a boy, and we will listen, because we bow and scrape before the god of college sports.”)
Did some of the posters here miss the post by Rex? In response to the Legislatures refusal to rewrite the bill, she signed two EO’s yesterday evening. First one for K-12 and the second for college athletics, 2021-05 and 2021-06. She also passed 4 pro-life bills and strengthened our 2A rights against Federal interdiction within our SD borders. Sundance is absolutely right about a law supported by the majority of this state and why the EO’s weren’t mentioned, I cannot say nor will I speculate. Gov. Noem is actively pursuing a special session for late May for this issue. She has done enough positive things for South Dakota so far to just throw her out with the bath water. She is not George McGovern.
TY—Does that mean when I move there this summer I will have much better protection than here in Oregon.
Question: Will those executive orders hold up in court? Why have a legislature if the Governor can just write her own laws? And why wait until now to do an executive order?
Sounds like CYA to me
Interesting question,
What do you think Inslee, Brown, Newsom, Whitmer, Cuomo and all the other democrats were and have been doing with their mask mandates, school closures, church closures, business closures and release of all the terrorist rioters.
Yes, and we here at CTH and elsewhere have protested against those EO’s by demonrat Governors and His Fraudulency II. Now it’s okay because one on “our” side does it?
Very disappointing as I had great hopes for her to advance to a higher office, but not with this type of deception. This is double speak type of work, playing it on the fence. I am a bit surprised by this action of hers as it doesn’t seem to square with other things she has done.
I might be persuaded to accepting her stance if she gives specific reasons and specifics about the wording she wants changed AND that those reasons then sound valid. As it stands right now I am unimpressed and very disappointed with her. While she showed more backbone than many other Republicans, this certainly gives me pause at her true motives and intents.
So few genuine Patriots.
I don’t agree with any transgenders playing in girls sports. But this garbage will only stop when girls stop playing in sporting events where there are boys playing girls. The government won’t step in so the girls must. If all girls stop playing in sports where they are competing against transgenders, women’s sports would collapse. Is that a bad thing? Maybe, maybe not, but if women cannot win competing against boys what difference does is make if they don’t play at all. Is quitting worse than losing an unfair game? They won’t win any games where boys are playing against them in women’s only sports.
Somebody in her camp convinced her this was the hill she didn’t want to die on if her aspirations for a run at the
Presidency were going to be realized. She shouldn’t have listened to them. Now we all see her as another political animal, unwilling to break the mold when it comes right down to it.
No to Noem say bye bye…
Remember all the times the left pulls back from a legal battle because they think they might not prevail? Neither do I. ?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a politician have the wind in their sails as much as Noem had only to turn the boat around and sail right into the breeze like she has. This is beyond an unforced turnover. This is shooting the puck into your own net and celebrating like you just scored a goal!
But the overwhelmingly GOP legislature in SD deserves to get the suspicious cat look as well. They just couldn’t muster up those two extra votes to override the veto/non-veto? ?
Hope a few of them get primaried too.
GOPe in disguise.
Don’t know why anyone is surprised by parseltongue Noem,. Christi outed herself at CPAC as being a uniparty Haley wannabe. I would not vote for her for as dog Catcher. Never trust a political opportunist. She was grooming herself for the WH the day she was elected Guv-ner. Just like Tricky Nikie Haley.
There’s only one person right now capable of filling Obama’s shoes, and that person is Governor Ron DeSantis.
The edit button is your friend. 😉
My question:
Who talked Kristi into making this STUPID decision?
You know like … who advised Newt to sit on a bench next to Pelosi and promote global warming … or … who told Jeb it would be a great idea to put a medal around Hillary’s neck after she and the puppet allowed our ambassador and 3 brave Americans to be murdered when their Benghazi terrorist gun running scheme failed.
The demonRAT’s have figured out that idiot RINOS are so desperate to be liked by RATS and their media lackeys – THEY WILL DO ANYTHING for “approval” … and … instantly destroy their political future.
Like … Pierre getting his “honor” at the Kennedy Center … LOL !!!
If that legal council is so strong they should be afraid to come forth publicly.
You might be on to something here.
Nobody would care if Kirisi Noem were not hot.
But the is.
She is burdened by beauty. Hobbled by hotness.
Meh. She’s no Sarah.
more like conned by communism.. you can have her..
you better check her pants first though..
because the Russians send beautiful redheads..
the Chinese send cute bunnies..
but the deep state send angry old white men..
Deception like Scott Walker that follows the money. Not as bad as Obama but no good…
I have mentioned several times about the super low waist jeans she wore during an interview on the Wrangle National Rodeo. I never saw jeans like those – sort of a mini skirt from the top – and I have a memory for such things.
“Noem said she has received advice and counsel that the law would fail if challenged in federal court”
Then you fight for your state doing what’s right in federal court, dammit!
Losing a fight for right beats the hell out of shirking your duty.
Stick a fork in her – she’s done.
Parents with daughters need to have a serious conversation with them and get them musical instruments instead of running shoes and athletic gear.
I would never let my daughter compete in today’s sports where transgenders are allowed.
It all depends on the parents.
Wake up.
From Darling to Rat…that’s how it goes these days. Ya never know.
Noem argument for not support the ban is based on thin reasoning at best. At worst,it amounts to caving under the direct pressure of the NCAA (aka, china handlers and financiers and sponsors) and all their jackboot radicals who will attack and everyone that support here power. It IS a formidable enemy she is up against, there is no doubt. But the difference here, is that she has a high majority of citizens in her state and across the country who support this ban. And likewise, she has the power of law in her favor as many states are already in full steam to put the ban in place.
From my basic uptake, Noem is making the argument she is not ready at this time to make the ban until she can reach some kind of compromise from the NCAA. I don’t really know what she expects to achieve with a “compromise”. Is she being shaken down? Is she compromised by have certain donors and sponsors and appointments she made who have a financial dog in the fight that prefers to have the NCAA continue running high profits sporting events in here state? Yes, is the answer.
What Noem describes is not some new problem. Noem is saying that she is “protecting” girls that would not be allowed to compete in sports if she passes the ban. Let’s break that down to what that really means: If she passes the ban, the NCAA has stated they will no longer authorize ANY sports in the state. This doesn’t mean that girls will not be allowed to compete. It simply means they will compete in NON-NCAA sporting events ONLY.
So what IS IT about competing in NON-NCAA sporting events that causes so much interest for Noem. Are the girls so interested in NCAA as a means to compete. I get it, competing in NCAA level events is definitely important to the success and opportunities of an athlete. But of what value is competing in such an organization that fraudulently places the weights on the scales that would actually deligitimize the athletes fair performance against a fair field of competition.
I’m not even going to get into this nonsense about chemicals and hormones. The entire thing is antithetical to sports. As a generational athlete one of my biggest complaints if the use of performance enhancing drugs. Once you go down this road of what kinds of drugs “provide” for a fair playing field, it’s no time at all, before the argument goes well beyond what makes a female and a male. Soon, it will be: I am taking these drugs, because my X hormones are lower than the competition and thus in order to compete fairly, I will need them.
Noem needs to get a spine or buy one. There are so many reasons to fulfill promises made, AND to protect girls AND boys, men and women. All she is doing right now, is taking a position of weakness and that will have profound effects on sports…for lots of factors.
God Bless America
Another one bites the dust.
Or could she simply be trying to get them to strengthen the bill to avoid a lost to litigation?
This whole South Dakota/Kristi Noem/transgender sports thing is a bit short sighted. Womens’ sports were toast when the soccer player from the women’s team at Vanderbilt started kicking extra points for the men’s alleged football team. Let’s remember who was a special guest at the inauguration ceremony. Combine that with a liberally interpreted title IX and there’s no stopping from any (fill in the blank) gender competing in any sport. I can already feel another executive order coming
She was for it before she was against it.
Maybe I’m just confused, but are you saying Kristi Noem is for transgenders competing in woman’s sports now?
She did not sign the bill to stop transgenders from competing with women in sports.
thanks for non answer
In her defense, this is what I think would happen that she is trying to avoid. The ncaa and aclu would immediately find a sympathetic judge to grant an injunction against implementing the law. There were many times this happened to Trump! Liberals love to play this kind of game. What they can’t get legislatively or at the ballot box, they go to left wing judges to get their way. This would also invalidate the protection for K-12 students. I think she was afraid of this. It would be a total loss that would take years to wind through the courts. I’m not ready to take her to the wood shed just yet.
