Trying to reform the GOP will take serious time and effort and will leave a bare cabinet if done thoroughly. A new party which rigorously vets anyone seeking office or working for it can screen out the rats once they see their grift is coming to an end. The political families (Bush, Romney, et al) and any with connections to them would be declared anathema and banned.

IF we would have had someone like Devin Nunez in as Speaker and IF there had been a real investigation in what appears to be penetration by individuals who could have turned over the info gleaned to Pakistani intelligence services, where they fled. I am going to write something here that is not going to be popular but I’m going to do it anyway.
The people must wake up and realize that we get pitted against each other by “wedge issues”, and that these are selected to make huge noise and emotional appeal, get people worked up, and loom so large that they create “one-issue voters. They drown out all those boring or hard ongoing garden variety issues of government involving stuff like economics, regulations, bureaucratic growth, trade, a multiplicity of constant incremental changes in laws that have cumulative effect in the wrong direction. One of these is the cry of “racism”. Another is the rising issue of “genderism”, a replacement for feminism (which has exhausted its agenda). Environment/climate change. Etc.
Abortion is one of these wedge issues. It seems to blind many conservatives and leftists alike to everything else. Thousands of women on the left are so hysterical about what they have been brainwashed to perceive is step one to deny their opportunity to become educated, independent, and so forth, that they will never vote for those ”evil Republicans” and will vote against anyone who is pro-life.
On the other hand, many conservatives never looked deeply at politicians like Paul Ryan, because of his ostensible pro-life record. His corruption and hypocrisy otherwise was there to see. Many conservatives take such a hard line on abortion that any politician who is perceived as even a little soft on the subject is written off. President Trump never would have got elected had his positions on abortion remained where they were 30 years ago. And in large part he selected Pence as his running mate for this reason — to reassure conservatives about this wedge issue.

Good post, Outhouse. I remember when Roe v. Wade was decided, the Pro-Life and Pro-Choice lobbyists all moved from state capitals to DC, and it became the federal wedge issue you describe. I believe abortion was never one of the enumerated powers entrusted to the federal government, and instead was reserved to the states, per the original text. I believe by making it a federal issue, SCOTUS weakened the Union. If Roe v Wade were overturned, it would simply take DC out of the Abortion debate. Abortion states like California, New York, and Illinois would be happy, while Pro-Life states would also be happy. Young women who decide they need an abortion, would be only a 60 to 90 minute flight away from a Pro-Choice state. Individuals would be happy, too.
It would no longer be the wedge issue it has become, another issue to divide the states against themselves. Whether an intentional ploy by the Marxists for this purpose or not, the effect has weakened the Union, while strengthening the Marxists and other Anti-Americans.
Everyone knows that abortion is murdering people at the beginning of their lives. Period. There is no “happiness” involved. Please see the constitution where we are all created equal. Let’s start from there.
