With 30-days left before the election perhaps it’s worthwhile remembering what all of this opposition is about…. Something 99% of American voters do not quite understand.
Congress doesn’t actually write legislation. The last item of legislation written by congress was sometime around the mid 1990’s. Modern legislation is sub-contracted to a segment of DC operations known as K-Street. That’s where the lobbyists reside.
Lobbyists write the laws; congress sells the laws; lobbyists then pay congress lucrative commissions for passing their laws. That’s the modern legislative business in DC.
When we talk about paying-off politicians in third-world countries we call it bribery. However, when we undertake the same process in the U.S. we call it “lobbying”.
CTH often describes the system with the phrase: “There are Trillions at Stake.” The process of creating legislation is behind that phrase. DC politics is not quite based on the ideas that frame most voter’s reference points.
With people taking notice of DC politics for the first time; and with people not as familiar with the purpose of DC politics; perhaps it is valuable to provide clarity.
Most people think when they vote for a federal politician -a House or Senate representative- they are voting for a person who will go to Washington DC and write or enact legislation. This is the old-fashioned “schoolhouse rock” perspective based on decades past. There is not a single person in congress writing legislation or laws.
In modern politics not a single member of the House of Representatives or Senator writes a law, or puts pen to paper to write out a legislative construct. This simply doesn’t happen.
Over the past several decades a system of constructing legislation has taken over Washington DC that more resembles a business operation than a legislative body. Here’s how it works right now.
Outside groups, often called “special interest groups”, are entities that represent their interests in legislative constructs. These groups are often representing foreign governments, Wall Street multinational corporations, banks, financial groups or businesses; or smaller groups of people with a similar connection who come together and form a larger group under an umbrella of interest specific to their affiliation.
Sometimes the groups are social interest groups; activists, climate groups, environmental interests etc. The social interest groups are usually non-profit constructs who depend on the expenditures of government to sustain their cause or need.
The for-profit groups (mostly business) have a purpose in Washington DC to shape policy, legislation and laws favorable to their interests. They have fully staffed offices just like any business would – only their ‘business‘ is getting legislation for their unique interests.
These groups are filled with highly-paid lawyers who represent the interests of the entity and actually write laws and legislation briefs.
In the modern era this is actually the origination of the laws that we eventually see passed by congress. Within the walls of these buildings within Washington DC is where the ‘sausage’ is actually made.
Again, no elected official is usually part of this law origination process.
Almost all legislation created is not ‘high profile’, they are obscure changes to current laws, regulations or policies that no-one pays attention to. The passage of the general bills within legislation is not covered in media. Ninety-nine percent of legislative activity happens without anyone outside the system even paying any attention to it.
Once the corporation or representative organizational entity has written the law they want to see passed – they hand it off to the lobbyists.
The lobbyists are people who have deep contacts within the political bodies of the legislative branch, usually former House/Senate staff or former House/Senate politicians themselves.
The lobbyist takes the written brief, the legislative construct, and it’s their job to go to congress and sell it.
“Selling it” means finding politicians who will accept the brief, sponsor their bill and eventually get it to a vote and passage. The lobbyist does this by visiting the politician in their office, or, most currently familiar, by inviting the politician to an event they are hosting. The event is called a junket when it involves travel.
Often the lobbying “event” might be a weekend trip to a ski resort, or a “conference” that takes place at a resort. The actual sales pitch for the bill is usually not too long and the majority of the time is just like a mini vacation etc.
The size of the indulgence within the event, the amount of money the lobbyist is spending, is customarily related to the scale of benefit within the bill the sponsoring business entity is pushing. If the sponsoring business or interest group can gain a lot of financial benefit from the legislation they spend a lot on the indulgences.
Recap: Corporations, mostly modern multinationals (special interest group), write the legislation. The corporations then contract the lobbyists. Lobbyists then take the law and go find politician(s) to support it. Politicians get support from their peers using tenure and status etc. Eventually, if things go according to norm, the legislation gets a vote.
Within every step of the process there are expense account lunches, dinners, trips, venue tickets and a host of other customary financial way-points to generate/leverage a successful outcome. The amount of money spent is proportional to the benefit derived from the outcome.
The important part to remember is that the origination of the entire process is EXTERNAL to congress.
Congress does not write laws or legislation, special interest groups do. Lobbyists are paid, some very well paid, to get politicians to go along with the need of the legislative group.
When you are voting for a Congressional Rep or a U.S. Senator you are not voting for a person who will write laws. Your rep only votes on legislation to approve or disapprove of constructs that are written by outside groups and sold to them through lobbyists who work for those outside groups.
While all of this is happening the same outside groups who write the laws are providing money for the campaigns of the politicians they need to pass them. This construct sets up the quid-pro-quo of influence, although much of it is fraught with plausible deniability.
This is the way legislation is created.
If your frame of reference is not established in this basic understanding you can often fall into the trap of viewing a politician, or political vote, through a false prism.
The modern origin of all legislative constructs is not within congress.
“We have to pass the bill to, well, find out what is in the bill” etc. ~ Nancy Pelosi 2009
“We rely upon the stupidity of the American voter” ~ Johnathan Gruber 2011, 2012.
“If Congress isn’t going to convene until the bill is ready to vote on… who the hell is writing the bill?” ~ Tom Massie, 2020
Once you understand this process you can understand how politicians get rich.
When a House or Senate member becomes educated on the intent of the legislation, they have attended the sales pitch; and when they find out the likelihood of support for that legislation; they can then position their own (or their families) financial interests to benefit from the consequence of passage. It is a process similar to insider trading on Wall Street, except the trading is based on knowing who will benefit from a legislative passage.
The legislative construct passes from K-Street into the halls of congress through congressional committees. The law originates from the committee to the full House or Senate. Committee seats which vote on these bills are therefore more valuable to the lobbyists. Chairs of these committees are exponentially more valuable.
Now, think about this reality against the backdrop of the 2016 Presidential Election. Legislation is passed based on ideology. In the aftermath of the 2016 election the system within DC was not structurally set-up to receive a Donald Trump presidency.
If Hillary Clinton had won the election, her Oval Office desk would be filled with legislation passed by congress which she would have been signing. Heck, she’d have writer’s cramp from all of the special interest legislation, driven by special interest groups that supported her campaign, that would be flowing to her desk.
Why?
Simply because the authors of the legislation, the originating special interest and lobbying groups, were spending millions to fund her campaign. Hillary Clinton would be signing K-Street constructed special interest legislation to repay all of those donors/investors.
Congress would be fast-tracking the passage because the same interest groups also fund the members of congress.
President Donald Trump winning the election threw a monkey wrench into the entire DC system…. In early 2017 the modern legislative machine was frozen in place.
The “America First” policies represented by candidate Donald Trump were not within the legislative constructs coming from the K-Street authors of the legislation. There were no MAGA lobbyists waiting on Trump ideology to advance legislation based on America First objectives.
As a result of an empty feeder system, in early 2017 congress had no bills to advance because all of the myriad of bills and briefs written were not in line with President Trump policy. There was simply no entity within DC writing legislation that was in-line with President Trump’s America-First’ economic and foreign policy agenda.
Exactly the opposite was true. All of the DC legislative briefs and constructs were/are antithetical to Trump policy. There were hundreds of file boxes filled with thousands of legislative constructs that became worthless when Donald Trump won the election.
Those legislative constructs (briefs) representing tens of millions of dollars worth of time and influence were just sitting there piled up in boxes under desks and in closets amid K-Street and the congressional offices. Legislation needed to be in-line with an entire new political perspective, and there was no-one, no special interest or lobbying group, currently occupying DC office space with any interest in synergy with Trump policy.
Think about the larger ramifications within that truism. That is also why there was/is so much opposition.
No legislation provided by outside interests means no work for lobbyists who sell it. No work means no money. No money means no expense accounts. No expenses means politicians paying for their own indulgences etc.
Politicians were not happy without their indulgences, but the issue was actually bigger. No K-Street expenditures also means no personal benefit; and no opportunity to advance financial benefit from the insider trading system. Republicans and democrats hate the presidency of Donald Trump because it is hurting them financially.
President Trump is not figuratively hurting the financial livelihoods of DC politicians; he’s literally doing it. President Trump is not an esoteric problem for them; his impact is very real, very direct, and hits almost every politician in the most painful place imaginable, the bank account.
In the pre-Trump process there were millions upon millions, even billions that could be made by DC politicians and their families. Thousands of very indulgent and exclusive livelihoods attached to the DC business model. At the center of this operation is the lobbying and legislative purchase network. The Big Club.
Without the ability to position personal wealth and benefit from the system, why would a politician stay in office? It is a fact the income of many long-term politicians on both wings of the uniparty bird were completely disrupted by Trump winning the 2016 election. That is one of the key reasons why so many politicians retired in 2018.
When we understand the business of DC, we understand the difference between legislation with a traditional purpose and modern legislation with a financial and political agenda.
When we understand the business of DC we understand why the entire network hates President Donald Trump.
Lastly, this is why -when signing legislation- President Trump often says “they’ve been trying to get this through for a long time” etc. Most of the legislation that is passed by congress, and signed by President Trump in his first term; is older legislative proposals, with little indulgent value that were shelved in years past.
Example: Criminal justice reform did not carry a financial benefit to the legislative bodies, and there was no financial interest funding the politicians to pass the bill. If you look at most of the bills President Trump has signed, with the exception of a few economic bills, they stem from congressional construction many years, even decades, ago.
Think about it carefully and you’ll see it. The “First step act”, “Right to Try”, etc. were all shelved by Boehner, Pelosi, Ryan, McConnell, Reid and others before them. When the value of legislation is measured by the financial underwriting and payoffs behind it, what type of legislative calendar does that require?….
Repeal the 17th amendment and watch what happens.

Sundance is providing a University Degree’s worth of learning if one reads regularly.
Like most here, I realized long ago that the massively excessive regulatory state had become an anchor around our freedoms and our businesses.
What I did NOT realize however until this Administration was:
1. The 1965 Civil Rights Act authorized enforcement agencies, which then grew and grew and grew and acted as un-Constitutional judges and juries in all issues which could be claimed under this Act.
And those issues grew with time, originally aimed at Black Americans, then Americans with sexuality disorders, then Americans with gender confusion, then the next crazy thing …
Now you have the NLRB going after The Federalist for a joke and a ten year torture of a Christian Colorado baker who declines to create an artistic cake to celebrate an abomination, among other things.
And these agencies (did I read 4700 recently?) hire a lot of people.
Anyway, this one ACT created supra-Constitutional authority for these NON elected agencies.
2. The long term employees who work for government agencies who pretty much can never be fired who compose the “Continuity of Government” so they remain in control during political transitions, sometimes for decades at a time.
3. The surveillance state is so massive that it has naturally turned into a State of Blackmail for whoever is in control. This effects the Executive, Legislative AND Judicial Branches. This effect is sort of a corollary to the powerful lobbying groups. I see this as one of the main reasons why we the American citizens are treated as deaf and mute as if we had “locked-in syndrome” when we have been yelling for decades to “Close the Border.”
_____
There are SO MANY reasons why we have to keep the Presidency and the Senate and take the House – this will be the last opportunity for the American people to make necessary repairs to our Constitutional Republic. We HAVE to!
“Continuity of Government” has nothing to do with “long term employees”. Also “who pretty much can never be fired” are largely SES contracted management who bring in their minions to fill midlevel staff.
I just read the discourse on the 17th Amendment…STATE LEGISLATURES is the key!!! And yes, the Deep State was mentioned at the end as to HOW senators retain control over bills.
NEED TO GET BACK TO THE ORIGINAL INTENT OF THE CONSTITUTION:
Article I, §3, Clauses 1 and 2:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_One_of_the_United_States_Constitution#Section_3:_Senate
AGAIN, 1913 REARS it’s head!!!!
Perhaps a modification or merging of the two ideas would be best. Have State legislatures propose 2 or 3 candidates and then let the voters choose the best.
Don’t trust any government or political party at this point. In GA, Gov. Kemp chose Kelly Loeffler whose husband is a Wall St exec when, election will tell, Doug Collins is the preferred choice of the people.
Granted, there is the possibility that the opposing party will rally behind the least-favored candidate (conservative for Republicans, radical left for Democrats), but it does satisfy the majority of people and filters it by the political party in power at the state level.
brightlight: I hope Doug Collins wins. I don’t trust that woman.
Repealing the 17th Amendment has been a long time dream of mine; hoping it is also one of President Trump’s; it would go to the heart of making American great again!
Music too my ears also…

so in summary,
it says in it “improper acess” meaning nice way of saying illegal.
even if this is off topic – i think a single article talking about this SOLE ACT and Sundance tweeting it WOULD GET MASSIVE SUNLIGHT.
one ASPECT only – just the MEMO , just the “improper access”
this improper access could be a bribe to senators to shut up.. ill let u get in through the special goverment employee program (SGE) and you keep quiet as you amass millions. we will rob the american people blind as we cheer for their issues!

I guess if you are John Brennan or a foreign intelligence service, and you want to finance a nefarious off the books black op operation FOR FREE, outside of your normal budget, you can use inside information and stock trades to finance your operations.
What kind of inside information can be freely gleened from the NSA database? Correspondence between PUBLIC COMPANY CEO’s who are looking to do a merger, acquisition or spinoff of another public company; confidential audits of a company that may be in discussions to be acquired by a public company; confidential emails, phonecalls, texts between CEO’s, their accountants, their lawyers, their bankers, their competitors; their R & D department; their patent department.

While sharing personal info on the internet is not my style, I hope those reading my following experience will be enlightened.
Many of you know that I work in a busy grocery/market. Since the onset of Covid-19, it has become insanely busy. “Standing room only” busy. “Fuggedabout occupancy limits” busy. It’s been that way ever since Day#1. Totally different workplace now.
None of us wore masks until it was mandated, and fines/shutdowns were threatened by Herr Pritzker. We were packed in like sardines. Most days, we still are. We don’t wear gloves (except those doing food prep) and don’t have time or ability to wash or sanitize hands as suggested.
There is no option for “social distancing” for either customers or employees in my store. And people continue to talk close, hug, and do the things normal people do. The cashiers handle money without gloves, and have no plexiglass shield to separate them from the customers.
Now, most customers wear masks. Employees do, until they get out of the “store” area. You can’t breathe. We’ve gotten back to sharing food dishes – something we foodies enjoy. I don’t even want to tell you about our eating habits, without washing hands. It’s just how it is, in a market. You grab and go. (Sundance might appreciate this.)
I come into close contact with MANY-TIMES the people that President Trump (or anyone on his team) does daily. Strangers, co-workers, vendors. None of them are tested. Many are not masked. No one is there to wipe and check everything.
Now… not a single employee has gotten sick with Covid-19 symptoms. Many have been tested for various reasons (travel, medical, etc.) NOBODY has tested positive, nor gotten the symptoms.
We all know of people in the community who’ve died with Covid-19. Every time a prior virus has gone round, employees get sick incrementally.
Food for thought.
PJ,
It’s the CANNED goods. The virus is repelled by stacks of canned goods, but LOVES hair salons, barber shops, churches and schools. Terrified of canned goods, and large quantities of toilet paper, which I bet your store also has.
Oh, rioting and fires also freaks it out. It’s like the way tornados are drawn to trailer parks, like a magnet. Yup, safest place to be (from CHI-NA Virus) is in a grocery store, surrounded by shelves of canned goods, and toilet paper.
It’s SCIENCE, and you are not allowed to argue it.
Hmmm…I don’t deal with canned goods. Nor household goods.
Our store is a market, which doesn’t carry a variety of those products. (I get my toilet paper elsewhere.)
Must be something else! 😉
Wow! That sure was an interesting read. Quite lengthy but worth the time spent.
Wow! I doubt most literate readers would consider my comment “quite lengthy” but thanks for the critique.
Touche.
We had a scared employee return to work after 6 months. (Pre-diabetic). Nobody wants to work with her… In the office, we don’t wear masks or don’t distance ourselves; we have lived and worked normally this whole time. Whomever works with her has to act like they’re infected. It’s truly a crazy time.
We had a woman who took leave, because her wife (legally) has some sort of breathing difficulty. I liked her, but after a half-year of working in hell, I hope she doesn’t try to come back.
Our employee literally worked a Saturday this year in order to qualify for unemployment plus the extra $600 weekly under the Cares Act. That annoys the shit out of me because she doesn’t even need to work. Hasn’t for some years. I hope your employee stays away. (I like this woman, by the way… Circumstances make me think less of her, however).
Yep, people gaming the system. Working in a grocery, I see it every day – especially the customers with LINK. The average person wouldn’t believe the scams on us taxpayers.
I got into a fight with a similar-type guy in the receiving department at the warehouse I work at. He’s completely neurotic about the masks and is constantly telling others to put their masks on, and writes endless emails to management complaining about those who don’t. Everyone despises the guy. When this is all over he’ll probably find he has no friends left.
Peoria Jones: Thanks for that testimonial for all the hard working people who have kept us fed. So many essential workers have gone to work every day to keep the country going.
It is very puzzling that so many members of congress were unable to go to their workplace and do their job. Of course, it’s better for us they aren’t there. They are non essential and basically useless for our well being.
With only top Republicans, including the President, contracting the China coronavirus this week, Americans are curious why no Democrats contracted the virus.
Now authorities have been able to determine that a recent outbreak started in Cleveland at the site of the Presidential debate. Now let’s see if authorities can tell us who these people are and how this happened.
FOX News provided a list of Americans who have contracted the China coronavirus along with the President – note all of these people are Republicans:

Cleveland Officials Traced COVID Cases Back to the Debate… Before Trump Was On-site
“As the cases involve people in and out of state some of whom may be continuing to travel, the City of Cleveland is working with the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the Cleveland Clinic,” the city said in a statement. “As part of CDPH’s process regarding COVID-19, any individuals who tested positive as part of the debate were contacted, interviewed when possible, issued isolation orders and provided guidance regarding their isolation period. There were also conversations with individuals who tested positive regarding their upcoming travel.”

The October Surprise:
(Source: https://threader.app/thread/1275081715363414019)
It’s foolish to believe that
@POTUS
contracted COVID-19 by “accident” or careless action.
The Deep State is evil.
22-Jun-2020 “ultimately they are hoping to infect the President and keep the country locked down.”
The DS plans have shifted. Originally I heard that samples of Covid 19 had been stolen from a lab in North Carolina, intended to start a “second wave”.Now I’m hearing the focus is on “infecting” Trump supporters at Rally’s.
Those responsible are infiltratingRally’s disguised as maga supporters and spreading Covid. They hope to paint President Trump as “reckless”, decrease his support, instill fear in voting/ supporting in person, blame the President and his supporters personally for the “second outbreak”, kill maga supporters, and ultimately they are hoping to infect the President and keep the country locked down.
Now that the “medical midget fauci” has downplayed masks, shutdowns, and the second wave, you know their goals have shifted.Defunding the police, daily chaos, all make it easier to carry this out, it’s cover for the real operation.
Look over here! Not there. This is biological warfare and is being supported and directed by hostile foreign governments encouraged by DS actors.
Samples are being “moved” and could be intercepted.
Makeshift “labs” are set up to disseminate the samples, some locations are known, can be confirmed.
Protect yourself and your loved ones. Carry a “pocket kit” at Rally’s just in case. A couple masks, couple pairs of gloves rolled up around small bottle of sanitizer fit in a pocket.
Let people Know AND LOOK FOR SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR. REPORT/DOCUMENT IT.
and
https://twitter.com/Johnheretohelp/status/1252615644253732868
Samples gone “missing” that were previously labeled “destroyed” from the same place that worked on Coronavirus research here in the states.
I’m told they are waiting for President Trump to reopen the economy, then they spread it nation wide, lots of infections/deaths. And they blame Trump for mishandling everything as usual. I know where the samples leaked from and where some are, I am trying to make contact with legitimate Federal authority.
Testing, all we hear about is testing. Mandatory testing is coming. If they demand it of me I demand Congress/Senate, and all those “special people” be tested first. They had a vaccine already, more could be made now, saving lives, but it’s always about them, not us.
If they won’t test why should We? They work for us after all. If /when they are tested and shown to have received a vaccine for this supposedly “unknown bat soup virus” what then? Is this an extension of the Coup on the President? With help from their Chinese masters?
An act of war? By China? Or the start of Civil War II ? By trying to infect, and remove, their political opponents and take over the country. Huge questions, bigger ramifications.
They have no power, only authority, and that can be removed , soon. I will not comply with any of their mandatory testing or vaccinations, or as they call it, phase 3. Too much of their overall plans are known to think this was a “accident”, too much is known to blindly accept their word, count on their “experts
Too much is at stake not to question everything and defend ourselves and Our Country at all costs.
Spoogles so you claim: I know where the samples leaked from and where some are, I am trying to make contact with legitimate Federal authority.
Wouldn’t hazmat or a fire department be the most trusted agencies?
Good luck! Whatever is found would be reported as abs founded drug paraphernalia.
Here in Massachusetts, the public schools continue to be the focal point of media driven fearmongering. The teacher unions have behaved atrociously, to the point that they have lost court rulings over their actions, which is something to marvel at in a state which has been run by public sector unions for decades.
Boston “moved” back into the conveniently ambiguous Covid “Red Zone” last week, which “just” happened to coincide with the scheduled reopening of the Boston Public School system. The actual number of cases in Boston? While not reported by the media, the state-published data shows the number of Boston cases is far below the peak of the city’s pandemic in late March-early April. But it is in the “Red Zone,” and red is a scary color, and so the teachers unions have an excuse to go on television and explain why they need more money.
Meanwhile, all of this fear porn and union extortion is being pumped into the critical electoral area of southern New Hampshire. New Hampshire’s electoral votes may also explain why the “Red Zone” designations have moved away from the South Shore/Bristol County region (ie the Rhode Island side of the state) towards the North Shore/Merrimack Valley region (ie the New Hampshire border) in the last two weeks. Or perhaps that is another coincidence along the lines of Clinton winning all those coin tosses four years ago.
Look into the Red For Ed group in your area school districts
How many Congresscritters can be influenced when you had a budget of $506,788.658 to spend in 2019? Just asking. And looking forward to the figures for 2020!

It is even more astonishing after all President Trump has done no one is holding press conferences to talk about this travesty. Where are the conserveatives? I know there arent many and I am aware the people first bills would never pass, but at least write some and outline it to the people in a press conference. Show us you are at least fighting for us. This is disturbing it hasnt happened.
It would be amazing to be able to see where all the money goes from taxes, fees, fines, tickets etc. A hold them accountable bill. Maybe an incoming not part of the “club” official would be so bold to get in and do the peoples work.

holy crap.just saw on the news that mcconnell put the senate on recess til oct 19th.could this be the real oct surprise?
Pro forma session = FAKE RECESS!
If the senate fails to confirm, COVID or whatever, this is all on Mitch – unless he puts the senate into actual recess, and allows President Trump to makes recess appointments, for SCOTUS and whatever else.
I teach high school, and we actually show the old School House Rock video. This article will help me really educate my students on the role of lobbyists. I’m so disgusted and sickened. Truly so many politiicians are the scum of the earth.
‘It’s Personal’–Trump Supporter Chokes Up Talking About President Outside Walter Reed Hospital

President Trump, “You’re an American Hero, and we love you so, so much.”
AMEN!!!!
What would the structure of Senate look like if the 17th amendment was repealed? Would they still approve judges and cabinet positions?
The function of the Senate would be the same; the difference is in that it is the individual State legislatures that decide what two people they will send to D.C. to represent the interests of the State.
When individual State legislatures change because of the popular votes in their States, when the 6 year term for a Senator is up, if that State has a different majority, for example if the Senator in DC is a Democrat but his term is up and that State’s legislative body is now majority Republican, then it will most likely be a Republican whom that legislature will select to send to D.C. for the next 6 year term.
Of course, if the particular Senator is doing a good job representing their State’s needs while in D.C., it shouldn’t, and very likely won’t, matter what party that Senator is in, especially if he/she has earned seniority on a committee that is vital to that particular State’s interests.
Bu all means repeal the 17th. This is supposed to be the United States, as in States, not Federal Departments. The election of senators is with the 17th an early step towards reduction of the states to departments of a central government. It also weakens the electoral college, the main guard against destruction of the states.
O Lord as You will and as You know, have mercy on us, and especially on your servant President Donald J. Trump.
When I first found the treehouse, sometime in early 2017, SD posted something just like this, that made it so crystal clear what was going on and that EVERYONE was being taken advantage of. In Hollywood everyone agrees the government is taking advantage of them, but they don’t understand the difference between state and federal taxes/regulations/laws. That’s why Cali still votes the way it does (IMO)
I was reading a Gov. archive explanation of the 17th Amnendment and pulled this paragraph:
‘Americans did not directly vote for senators for the first 125 years of the Federal Government. The Constitution, as it was adopted in 1788, stated that senators would be elected by state legislatures. The first proposal to amend the Constitution to elect senators by popular vote was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1826, but the idea did not gain considerable support until the late 19th century when several problems related to Senate elections had become evident. Several state legislatures deadlocked over the election of senators, which led to Senate vacancies lasting months and even years. In other cases, political machines gained control over state legislatures, and the Senators elected with their support were dismissed as puppets. In addition, the Senate was seen as a “millionaire’s club” serving powerful private interests. The rise of the People’s Party, commonly referred to as the Populist Party, added motivation for making the Senate more directly accountable to the people.’
My point for decades. The 17th amendment is the key to fixing America. That dispersal of power back to the states is critical. SO CTH lets go. That will be a lengthy fight but if “we” mean to have a war let it start here.
Yup, the most powerful branch of government should be the one closest to you and the only thing the Fedgov should do is defend ones rights and protections under the Constitution and prevent trade and other conflicts between the states. This sets up a FREE MARKET of governments, allowing people to move to the best one FOR THEM just as they buy the best product for them. That was the Founders’ intent.
“There is not a single person in congress writing legislation or laws… Over the past several decades a system of constructing legislation has taken over Washington DC that more resembles a business operation than a legislative body.”
Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens [Princeton University, 2014]
Excerpts:
A great deal of empirical research speaks to the policy influence of one or another set of actors, but until recently it has not been possible to test these contrasting theoretical predictions against each other within a single statistical model. We report on an effort to do so, using a unique data set that includes measures of the key variables for 1,779 policy issues.
Multivariate analysis indicates that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence. The results provide substantial support for theories of Economic-Elite Domination and for theories of Biased Pluralism, but not for theories of Majoritarian Electoral Democracy or Majoritarian Pluralism.
In the United States, our findings indicate, the majority does not rule—at least not in the causal sense of actually determining policy outcomes.
When a majority of citizens disagrees with economic elites or with organized interests, they generally lose. Moreover, because of the strong status quo bias built into the U.S. political system [that describes the influence of the Deep State/Swamp – W], even when fairly large majorities of Americans favor policy change, they generally do not get it.
To be sure, this does not mean that ordinary citizens always lose out; they fairly often get the policies they favor, but only because those policies happen also to be preferred by the economically-elite citizens who wield the actual influence.

The middle class can change this any time they want by donating money. If the money to run campaigns comes from the middle class the lobbyists lose their power. Almost every middle class person can donate $100. That’s $6 billion for Trump and the Republicans. Problem solved.
Repeal the 17th Amendment but also make lobbying bribery and the legislature part time. Move the bureaucracy to distant cities.
Do these things and we will once again have the choice of two candidates running not to enrich themselves, but an honest desire for positive civic service to the benefit of the People and the Nation.
I wished, really I do, that I had known forty years ago the sham and the pretense of our political machine, as it’s been described by Sundance.
Lawyers took over the government years and years ago and sold our country and all our resources to the highest bidder.
I’m dreaming now, but wouldn’t it it be wonderful if the people could have our own media propaganda machine just like the enemy has its own MSM. An Independent network owned by the people with capacity to broadcast the news (truth) without interference. There’s coming real soon when something of this nature may not be possible for if any of radical left communist gets power we will see the final phase of absolute control established.
We are just one election away from a totalitarian country.
What this article says is that you do not have to be a congressman or senator to write legislation. I’ve written two pieces of legislation that have passed during President Trump’s term. You simply write up your idea using previous legislation as a guideline, make an appointment with your congressman or senator, and present it. I have another piece that has passed the House and Senate, but not at the same time. I also have a bill that will soon make its way thru a State Legislature.
The tricky part is that you have to allow the congressman or senator to take credit for the passage of the bill. No one will know your name. If you can live with that, you can do it too.
That’s right Treepers. A private citizen wrote the two most significant bills passed during the Trump administration, and he lurks here. We can change the world.
You can do the same thing with campaigning. Print up what you want to say, purchase door hanger bags, and walk your neighborhood. Do not contradict the campaign, and do not tell anyone to vote for a particular person. Simply state your opinion on an issue. It is perfectly legal.
I prefer the practice of We The People electing our senators. The state legislators are as crooked and greedy as the federals and would just circumvent our desires and put in senators that feed the ill gotten spoils back to them.
It seems to me that the fault lies not in the 17th amendment, but in the regulations governing the Senators taking bribes to advance the wishes of the lobbying companies instead of working for We The People. It has grown so bad that Our Govt is no longer interested in what We The People want passed because they get so much dark money that they have sold us to the highest bidders… even to the murder of our unborn children to advance the profits of Planned Parenthood… That is where the line must be drawn. Lobbyists must be prevented from bribing, and Our Govt officials need to be leveled if they take any gifts, or bribes from lobbyists.
rebelinme: I prefer direct election of senators also. I blame the voters who reelect the same person for decades without ever holding them accountable. Two terms for senator and four for representatives is all I will vote for incumbents. The primaries are where you have to vote for challengers. How much worse can they be?
Sundance: this presentation was absolutely one of the best, most explanatory, most understandable, most comprehensive, most helpful and most useful pieces of information ever compiled. Even to those of us who have some understanding, there was much to learn and pieces that did not fit before now fit. Thank you so much. Great timing. I’ll be using this to red pill a family member.
This post explains the incentive that current politicos have in getting Trump out and the establishment’s candidate back in. But what is the incentive to the press?
arelius11: Ninety-five percent of the media is owned by six international globalist corporations who don’t want Trump’s America First agenda. The donations of lobbyist to compliant candidates has assured their agenda was carried out for decades.
[…] COVID Fear Isn’t The Kitchen Sink – But It’s Close. Perhaps it’s worthwhile remembering what all of this opposition is about…. […]
