Officer Michael Slager is the South Carolina police officer charged with murder in the shooting death of Walter Scott.  Officer Slager’s trial is set to begin October 31st 2016, however the DOJ announced additional federal charges today.
The back story for today’s DOJ announcement frames the motive for the Obama Dept of Justice, Civil Rights Division, to file proactive charges today – the media will avoid highlighting the transparency.  However, long term CTH readers will understand it well. Remember, Hillary Clinton called Ryan Julison.

The State of South Carolina has put itself in a very difficult position with prosecution of the case against officer Slager.  Despite the media presentation of the event, the charge of Murder is a significant reach given the actual events which occurred in the entirety of the several minutes of the physical struggle with Walter Scott which were not recorded or discussed in the media. Interesting little development.
(Via Texas Tribune) U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, plans to run for re-election in 2018.
Cruz, who ended his presidential campaign last week, said “yes” when asked Wednesday morning by a reporter in Washington, D.C., if he would seek a second term, according to CNN and The Hill. Cruz’s office later confirmed the exchange.
The announcement adds some clarity to Cruz’s political future following his decision to exit the presidential race on May 3. While Cruz could change his mind, running for re-election in 2018 puts to rest some speculation he would sit out a second term to prepare for a comeback bid for the White House in 2020.  (article)

Not sure if any of this is connected, but it certainly is quite a coincidence. We note three stories on three consecutive days:
♦ Sunday, May 8th – “Sickening new pictures have emerged of a new form of ISIS execution – stabbing prisoners directly in the heart to kill them for their ‘crimes against the caliphate'”. (link)

♦ Monday, May 9th – GRAFING, Germany — A German man yelled “infidel, you must die” and “Allahu akbar” as he stabbed one person to death and wounded three others at a Bavarian train station Tuesday, but authorities said they’ve found no links to any Islamic extremist network. (link)
♦ Tuesday, May 10th – (last night) BOSTON – TAUNTON (CBS) – An off-duty officer shot and killed a man who allegedly stabbed two people to death during a rampage at two locations in Taunton Tuesday night.

Police responded to the Silver City Galleria shopping mall just before 7:00 p.m. after the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Arthur DaRosa, crashed a black Honda Accord into the entrance of a Macy’s store. (more…)

♦ West Virginia – 34 Delegates available (directly voted): 9 district delegates are directly elected on the primary ballot (3 delegates are elected in each of the state’s 3 Congressional Districts). 22 at-large delegates (10 at-large plus 12 bonus) are directly elected statewide. 3 party delegates.
♦ Nebraska – 36 Delegates available (winner take all): All 36 of Nebraska’s delegates to the Republican National Convention are pledged to in today’s Nebraska winner.

The newly elected Mayor of London, England, Sadiq Khan, sent a rather disturbing public message to the United States and candidate Donald Trump today.  The implied threat content is more than a little alarming:

How does a persons’ view of a group make the viewer “less safe”, unless the viewed group have an inherent propensity to violence?
What Mayor Khan is essentially outlining is the preferred position of all abusers.

If you had only made me a better sandwich my disappointment wouldn’t have made me punch you in the face.

Senator Marco Rubiobot reappeared for his first “on camera” interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper since dropping out of the presidential primary race.

[In an effort to recapture some conservative relevancy/credibility, Senator Rubio met with strategic war advocate Mark Levin prior to Jake Tapper]

Delivering and repeating his scripted and well-rehearsed talking points, a trademark of his political career, Rubio dismissed any notion that he would be a vice-presidential pick for Donald Trump and quixotically obfuscated away from any endorsement; preferring instead to repeat the ‘I-signed-a-pledge’ meme ad nauseam.
In essence the former presidential candidate proved in a post-election interview why he never stood a chance in the pre-interview election race.  Some things never change.

The best part of the interview was toward the end.  After Rubio praised NATO and the United Nations Jake Tapper correctly pointed out that Marco Rubio’s foreign policy, and global world view, is essentially identical to Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
The interview became funny because Rubio responded: “but I wanted earlier intervention in Syria”, which left Tapper open to affirm his original framework with the bulls-eye retort: “well, um, so did she” DUH.
After stuttering, Rubiobot quickly moved on…
